I got stuck doing a project for my telecommunications class and ended up staying up until 2 AM last night just working on it, plus another 3 hours this morning getting it done. But it's a class I learn a lot in and I like having it for that reason. I've learned quite a bit about networking in two weeks than I did just Googling shit.

On the other hand, if I were to take a stats class, having that amount of work would push me to drop it automatically. Not only do I not find it interesting, it also seems like too much work to just put into a GE class.

So I wonder: when you take classes, do you take them because they're easy or to learn something in them?

In other words, for you weeaboos, do you take a Japanese class to get an A and say you're an official weeaboo master or do you pay someone to actually [i]learn[i] Japanese?
Just need to find out how to quote this every time so I can dodge the stupid 30-character limit.

I usually take classes that are fairly easy (music/music history, psych, philo) just because i'm already getting anally destroyed by all my math and computer science courses.

I take classes that I enjoy and can learn about stuff I'm interested in. I excel in business related classes (accounting, business management, etc.) but it's not my thing. I could easily get a high grade in them but I'd rather opt for visual art or ancient history or something where I'm not necessarily the best but it's stuff I definitely have an interest in.

if you aren't learning useful info, then you're taking a useless class. the whole reason you go to college is to gain skill sets, not to prove yourself through a 4.0 GPA or some shit lol.

what are u going to do when u get a 4.0 with a bunch of easy ass classes, then u get an interview and you can't answer any of their technical questions? they won't hire you

I'm always happy to hear when when someone enjoys their studies and they actually enjoy learning or just school in general :)
School was the most miserable depressing time for me, I hated it...Teachers and other people in a position of authority beat me down until I just gave up...
As for studying and taking classes, I never studied and I basically just slept through classes. Probably a good thing that I dropped out at 16, I doubt I would've gotten much further with the attitude I had...
Maybe I'm a bad example lol

Why bother spending time in a class if you aren't going to learn anything from it?

I had that conversation with a friend of mine too. You're right.

But let's face it. How many of us are really THAT interested in taking an entire class about how God is the center of the universe and the Big Bang is a myth?

I exaggerate, but I'm interested in taking classes that are within my major. Some classes are interesting, but when I take a GE class like English or even Psychology there's nothing I can get psyched for. It's not really cool to me. It does reflect in the fact that I didn't do very well in English and the very first Geography test I took in college, I failed (33%!!!!! lowest grade in the class).

What I do think is if they're classes related to your field of study, do well and actually learn and be able to apply the knowledge. But if it's a class that really doesn't matter for you, like for me, Ethnic Womens Studies is irrelevant to me (I think that's the subject?), then just find an easy class and get the A.

Just saying, there's an off chance that you're writing code and suddenly a question about feminism pops up in NetBeans.

you're required to take ethnic womens studies? holy shit.... lol. do you go to a womens college that also accepts men? i have a friend that's doing something similar because the tuition is free for everyone lol.

but yeah i know what u mean when it comes to the required general education. i'm still going thru the second year, it sucks balls. a couple of the classes i've been required to take were actually completely useless imo

I use to try to aim for both goals of being easy and learning something. But if I must I would go for the latter, I just would limit how many classes I took based on that.

It's not a requirement because some people are freshmen in college when they start out, but I'm a transfer student at my college. The problem is, we need to take some GE Synthesis classes, and the only class that fulfills a requirement from that GE Synthesis bullshit comes from Ethnic Womens Studies.

So yeah. I'm not trying to call out any of the usual suspects and draw attention to my post, but it's stupid. I feel like so much of said facts aren't even facts, they're just things the professor deems correct because they think so.

I thought it was stupid. Everyone that participates is kinda pretentious too like they're getting their noses stuck too far up the wrong places.

I enjoy taking creative writing courses, but due to the nature of my college and the classes I still have to take, I'm usually stuck with classes I don't like.
But I do actually try to remember things I learned in classes I enjoyed.

We can't choose our own classes. We just decide what field we want to study (f.ex. history, mathematics or English etc.) and they give us predetermined set of classes.
