Thanks a lot for the link, j0x. So would it be best to start with the movies, then?

Humm, you can watch the first movie to see if you like the series, though the first movie retells one of the stories in the original series and would be better after watching the OVAs so you know the characters a bit better. But the second and third movies are definitely better after the TV series.

Edit: but better would be first OVA, first half of TV, 1st movie, 2nd half of tv, 2nd ova, 2nd movie, then 3rd movie (this is really about a side character).

for me i do not see any problem with starting with the movie trilogy since they are alternative versions from the TV series and OVAs

There's no problem other than Movie animation and artwork would be appreciated more when you see the TV arcs first. Also it makes more sense since you will be introduced to all the characters and their quirks.

my orders : Movies> Tv series > OVAs

My recs : Early Days > Movies > Tv series > New files

Early Days set in the same world with the Movies

While the TV series set in the same world with new files.

This looks like a personal preference in which timeline to watch.

I have a different question though, is the TV series a different story than the movies or the same?

If the TV series is even partially different or has more story to it, than I would start with the series than the movies.
