This episode was pure slice of life, containing a decent amount of comedy interspersed between lots of self-reflection and reminiscence. It's nice seeing the characters so varied in their approaches to life, and while they're having fun goofing off every day, they're still thinking about plans and goals for the future, even if they don't know what they want yet. Even still, there are characters content with not having any particular goals, and are content with the boundless amounts of freedom they currently have. In a sense, the stress and pressure one has is, at times, determined by how much you want to achieve something, and that in and of itself can be a personal drive. It really comes down to if there's anything you want badly enough to work for, and if not, then enjoying life is a valid option. Enjoy peaceful times while they last, I suppose.

I've watched this series quite a few times and somehow I have absolutely no memory of this episode at all. It feels like it slipped out of Kare Kano or something.

A truly excellent episode. Reminds me a lot of ep13 of K-On (s1) where all the girls are separate for a change and the usual happy go lucky atmosphere turns quiet and introspective. Kinda sucks we didn't get to see more of Osaka but I guess there's not much rational thought going on in her head to contemplate anyway. I hope we get at least one more episode like this one before this show ends.

The Yawn Master Osaka. It's her street name.

When you're an adult with an adult job but it's not fancy or world changing. I get that entire ass dinner scene.

Though Nyamo is a fucking moron. "I love my current job." Girl get money. What are you doing?

This was visually one of the prettiest background episodes. This series could use more of it.

"I ran out of convenience stores, so I was headed to the eraser"
Nah, this is the funniest scene of the episode.

Comedy aside this episode had a different tone from its predecessors. It was very deep and got me thinking about the future. For example, when Kagura says that the other friends have a lot of freedom, only to realize that she is the one who has decided to train and work hard to go to the nationals or when Nyamo was indecisive about what to do with her life going forward and in the end, she realizes that it's her life so she should do whatever she wants to, then Yukari asks her what she is going to do going forward and Nyamo replies with I don't know. It made me think that you'll never really know what you will do until you get to that moment so it's better to enjoy the little moments, Kagura sits down with Chiyo to drink some juice while looking at the falling sakura petals, while Nyamo and Yukari also sit under sakura tree looking at the sakura petals as they drink.

The tone wasn't the only good point of this episode, this episode also had some of the best art when comparing the prior episodes. In my opinion, this might be the best episode of this show.

Just like I expected, this is starting to get a melancholic tone near the end. The fact girls are approaching to their last year till the eventual graduation. Youth is a part of life that will eventually be gone for all of us. Incredible episode, I am near crying right now. I don't want this to end.

I think this is one of the best episodes of a tv show I've ever seen. Very much a precursor to what K-on will do later. I love how this focused on the themes of growing up, not just high school but beyond that too. Plus, the freedom to do whatever you want.

The most deep and life thinking azumanga daioh ep I've seen so far which is a suprise. I thorougly enjoyed it though, it's something unique and different to the other episodes with all the characters thinking about their futures and their lives (which is relatable as HELL)

This episode was chill... and real. It felt so melancholic. It doesn't surprise me all that much that this was an anime-original or "filler" episode. Because tonally it's so wildly different from the other episodes of the series so far. Sure, there was that dream episode that was pretty funky but this is simply on a different level. Yet another example of a "filler" episode done right. It's sad that these things aren't that common anymore in today's anime. If anything it's the opposite as anime have to cut content from the source material because they don't get enough episodes or sometimes don't even receive sequels. They literally don't make them like they used to anymore. Safe to say that I loved this episode and it might be one of my favorites of the series.

I loved how the focus wasn't on just the students but the teachers too. Their lives may be different, but they're in such similar situations. Nyaomo and Yukari are both single teachers. But when presented with the choice of getting married or changing jobs, they don't seem all that enthusiastic about it. It's like they're content with what they have but they also know that they can't live like this forever. Same thing with the students.

I can't relate to the teachers all that much (yet) but I do relate to the girls being a former school student. Man, it's a chilling feeling. It didn't occur to me that none of the girls were in a club except Kagura, one of the girls who we rarely see. From Kagura's perspective, the other girls are lucky to lead such a carefree life. But from at least Yomi's perspective, not joining a club might've felt like she missed out on something. Idk if there's any "correct" answer here. They probably would've felt this way regardless of what they chose to do. Watching anime like this feels so refreshing cause it reminds me of my own student life, which I really miss. But also a bit sad.

Anyway, the best joke of this episode was probably Chiyo going out at night to buy an eraser. Poor girl was scared shitless. Having her pair up with Kagura in the middle of the road was an interesting choice. It's good for Kagura cause she got more screentime.

I didn't even realize it, but these girls are already in 3rd year. Usually this type of episodic comedy series doesn't start from 1st year and then continue all the way till the characters reach the 3rd year and then graduate. Usually they just end and imply that the show just goes on after the ending. Or at the very least, those types of manga or anime are way longer. Compared to that Azumanga Daioh feels short. I'm not watching it weekly so it feels shorter.

I think this episode hits hard cause it's so late in the series. It makes me wonder what these girls are gonna do once they graduate high school and get into college and stuff. Are they still gonna be friends? Or are they all gonna drift apart from each other? Hopefully not. Maybe some of them will become like Nyamo and Yukari. Tho it's hard to imagine Chiyo becoming a college student when she's only 12. She might be smart but she may not be mature enough for college. She's still just a kid. Wtf is she gonna do? Ig that's another thing to ponder about.

I liked Tomo as she grew her hair longer in the course of the series. Tomo with short hair looks cursed.

Loved this episode!!! It has such a melancholic feeling.

Tomo actually doing some deep thinking and Yomi wishing she had something to focus on, like Kagura
While Chiyo looks at being all grown up with awe, Kagura feels it only brings about more work. The same way she's dedicated to her goals in swimming. There was also a brief moment where Kagara felt stressed by doing something she personally WANTS to do, which is actually very relatable.
All the girls in this episode were intrigued by what Kagura told them because they just live their lives day to day without much outlook, how most people are while still in school.

Also loved the focus on the teachers, Minamo's contemplation of what decisions to make as an adult is a stark contrast to Yukari's childish nature, that hasn't changed as long as she's known her.

Also so many details here and there (that I feel are important for some reason), like 10 year old Chiyo going out at night for the first time, whereas older Tomo just casually pops into Yomi's room.

This episode was really deep but was still in the same vein as other Azumanga Daioh episodes. Might go cry for a bit.

Ok, what did Yukari say that the guys were weirded out by her? LOL. Is she really that weird?

Drinking alcohol in public underneath a sakura tree at night is honestly kinda wild... and dangerous. Not to mention the alcohol looks like it came in glass containers so they're also littering. The episode left it ambiguous, but I wonder if Yukari and Nyamo slept under the tree, or if Tomo slept at Yomi's.

As a yuri fan, I like the concept of Nyamo x Yukari. And I guess Yomi x Tomo. But this anime came out in 2002... so I doubt it'll be canon.

Definitely one of the more serious episodes in the series so far. Although it's not without its wacky moments so it doesn't feel that jarring.

What a fantastic episode. I think it's filled with reflections on life and the human experience that can resonate with people at a lot of points in their life. Really beautiful presentation and pacing, and still consistently funny and entertaining. Genuinely a joy to watch. Loved it.

I know others have mentioned it having a "melancholic" vibe, and I definitely pick that up, but if anything to me it feels more hopeful. It embraces and celebrates the freedom we have as humans to live our lives how we want to. I think you can be the person you want to be if you work towards it, and I think you can find fulfillment in so many different ways.
