Mob Psycho's #RedrawReigen Meme
Mob Psycho 100 is easily one of if not the summer season's most exciting new anime series. I'll be writing more on the show itself next week after the series finale airs, but this week's episode has set off something worth writing about now before it becomes old news: a dank meme.
Arataka Reigen, Mob's sleazy yet lovable fraud psychic boss, was set up as a major character in the show's first episodes but had mostly disappeared into the background of the show until his dramatic return in this week's episode. I don't know if @DoonaDraws' first #RedrawReigen tweet on Sunday (picture shown above) was made in anticipation of his return Monday or just on whim, but the big reminder of Reigen's awesomeness in Monday's episode must have surely contributed to the popularity of the hashtag. While the original conception of the hashtag was to redraw absurd stock photos using Reigen and other Mob Psycho 100 characters (the evil spirit Dimple seems to replace food items in a lot of these images), pretty much any sort of photo/artwork/screencap/meme has become fair game to redraw with Reigen.
The #RedrawReigen meme has trended, and news of it has even reached the original Mob Psycho 100/One Punch Man manga-ka ONE (he's pleased).
You could spend hours browsing all the great redraws posted in the #RedrawnReigen twitter hashtag (as well as the hashtag on tumblr), and I'm sure many more will be made before this meme finally runs out of steam, but here's a few of the many highlights from this latest internet sensation.
