Girls Band Cry

Everyone yearns to find their true purpose in life. This is also true for Nina Iseri, a 17-year-old girl looking to enroll in a good university, but the world always seems to work against her. On her very first day in Tokyo, she gets lost, ignored, and locked out of her new apartment. However, an unexpected opportunity arises when Nina meets Momoka Kawaragi, one of her favorite guitarists.

After Nina joins Momoka for a street performance, Momoka decides they should start a band together. While Nina initially hesitates, her determination grows as they start acquiring more bandmates—the beautiful drummer Subaru Awa, the aloof keyboardist Tomo Ebizuka, and the intelligent bassist Rupa. The five girls face challenges both in the music industry and within themselves, but their shared passion for music never lets them give up on their dreams.

Preliminary (8/13 eps)

This show grows on you. It definitely has its moments, and I've enjoyed it as the episodes progressed, but is it a masterpiece or incredible?

Important thing to note: Stay away from the machine translated subs. It will take longer for fan subs to be uploaded on places, but it's worth waiting for them. The MTL subs made my initial viewing experience a lot more confusing and just bad. There are certain fan subs that typically have better translations, but if you watch GBC on one of the more popular streaming websites (which will not be named for obvious reasons) assuming its not the one ... that uses the MTL subs, the translations are accurate enough to be able to get the main point across just as effectively.

I think the MC can be initially a little annoying, but what teenager isn't? They tone down how annoying she is as the episodes progress, and the character does grow on you. The writing for the plot/characters can be a little lazy or shallow at times, but the show makes up for it in other areas.

BTR left some big shoes to fill, and while this show falls short by essentially every measure compared to BTR, it still landed far better than i thought it would. As both animes are focused on a group of girls making a band, it's impossible not to compare the two. However, falling short of Bocchi the Rock doesn't mean it's bad. I personally just found BTR more enjoyable, and thought their music episodes were shot and produced better.

As for GBC, I think it's worth watching couple episodes, and see if its for you. If not, that's fine too. It's a small commitment to make, and the show might grow on you like it did me. If it doesn't, then not much was lost, and you probably would have been using that time to do something more pointless anyway.

Once you accept the show's surface flaws and its use of CGI, you'll find the show and its characters to be, at times, far more charming and endearing than you had anticipated.

I think this anime is a 7/10. Which is still good, and above average. I think animes that are rated an 8 and above are truly great/incredible. This falls slightly short of what I think is great/amazing, and think this is probably how most would feel if they were being objective about it. Ii think i only have given one or two things on MAL a 10 because a 10 should be reserved for things that you truly see as a masterpiece. Very few 9s too on my own list. I think for those that rate a lot of things as either a 10 or a 1 rating need to re evaluate their system because there's just no way that whatever anime is literally one of the worst things you've ever seen nor is it the best thing.

Mixed Feelings

Ok the CGI is good not studio orange level but its good, but that's just me now. The story is aint like your typical music anime story and shit but the mc if you don't like stupid, annoying, childish, angst teen then this isn't for you so she stopped going to high school to pursue her dream and shit but its fucking obvious she doesn't now how the world works...….god I cant write a review after watching that. ok its isn't the worse I've seen but its definitely not the most entertaining idol/music anime, the story is aint, the character writing specially for the mc ... is stupid and unrealistic and we cant just say its because she 17, teens are a lot smarter than we give them credit for I now a lot are stupid but for a 17 year old she acts like a pre pubescents child

Bads: I like the show as a whole but the main character is just ass man. I tried to keep on watching and in the 8th episode after watching it I just couldn't make myself to watch it any further. I kept on watching up until now that the Nina (MC) will have some growth but man she just keeps on getting worse. Bad parenting... that's all I guess. Weird kid she is. Don't know what to say about her man... just straight up unlikable. Ugghh... If you wanna watch something way better with mostly same but better and more likable but realistic characters with ... similar flaws even airing this same season, then watch Jellyfish Can't Swim at Night. There all characters get their little 2-3 episode arcs where they actually overcome themselves and become better but here in this show Nina just keeps degrading with each episode and nobody is like telling her she's wrong for doing these childish behaviours in public causing troubles for everyone. Just weird man...

Goods: Btw the reason for giving it a 7 is because all other characters other than the MC are pretty good and mature for their age. Also the music is good and CGI is okay but i would say that the facial expressions are legit good.

That's all. Rest you can watch it for yourself even though I would suggest not to.
