the story' is very interesting! I really like anime with the Slice of life comedy genre, and Bocchi The Rock! belongs to the music genre, the songs are very pleasant to hear, really enjoying me time while watching Bocchi The Rock!, And the cute artsyle with a cool background! With its fresh comedy, it makes me feel more comfortable watching it, and each character has a unique background story, and they're all cute Especially Bocchi, In addition, Kessoku Band members really support each other and complement each other, I'm sure you will like this anime, this is a masterpiece! YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I have both read and Watched the Anime Adaptation.
Basically The Manga is not bad its a 4koma manga .(Spoiler!) So its now a days i have seen a rise in social anxiety trope manga like komi can't communicate and more others .Its a old trope many manga used it but . Bocchi the rock got its recognition from its anime adaptation. It was a hit ,highly rated and liked by the Audience. It was sudden even for the Mangaka who grew so popular after the success.

a good story line a good side character.It was done well ... in the anime Adaptation as we can it was quite a good show. The animation was perfect i my opinion. One thing that made Bocchi different from other anime was the anime and animators were given full freedom .It was new to me the way they animated some scenes were funny tet hilarious.
Its just my personal recommendation if wanny try try it and it is fun.

I will admit that Bocchi the rock! Lost me at the first 3 episodes and I was planning on dropping it or having it on hold, Longer than I expected, But I kept up with it and it had me at the end. It's a very emotional story and it got me tear-jerking at times, The character of Bocchi is a relatable character, One whom desires to escape the isolation and branch out to be on top of the world to tell people it's possible to make it while being an introvert. I love the characters in the story and I especially love the message ... that it brings, It's not a perfect story, The characters are imperfect and Bochhi doesn't stop being this shy girl who has trouble talking to strangers, Or looking straight at the crowd. And that's what I love about her and the story. She isn't perfect and neither is anyone else, The characters help Bocchi in their own way and it's a heart-warming story, I reckon anyone who struggles with being alone and likes listening to kick-ass rock songs should definitely give this a watch. It is a dub and that did throw me off a tad, But please keep with it, It's an amazing story and I am so happy I didn't let this get tossed off by the wayside.

When it comes to reading, writing, and creating media in general, I abide by the philosophy that pretty much everything has been done before, but as long as you're passionate about what you make and create believable characters, you can make even the most cliche premises enjoyable. It all comes down to execution. Granted, the premise of a bunch of kids getting together to form a band has been done lots of times before—K-On, Given, Angel's 3Piece, Bang Dream, Kids on the Slope, Show By Rock, Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad, and so on—but there's a lot you can do with it, and as long as ... you're able to make your audience care about what's happening, it doesn't matter how cliche your premise is. For example, I can't stand K-On because it seemed way more interested in cashing in on the moe trend than telling a compelling story, whereas another band-focused anime I watched, Given, while not having the best animation and ending on an open-ended note, had stronger characters, better writing, and actually went into the nitty-gritty about music, instruments, the items used for them, and starting a band in general. One anime that came out in 2022, which I had admittedly missed out on, takes the fluid animation of K-On and the character writing in Given and manages to make something truly wonderful. What's this anime you ask? A little recently discovered gem called Bocchi The Rock.

Now, a premise like this has obviously been done before. Hitori Gotoh is a young girl who really loves playing guitar and wants to start a band. Unfortunately, she's so shy and anxious that she can barely function if someone so much as talks to her. Everything she's tried to remedy this has failed, so she's spent a good chunk of her life without friends. One day, a girl named Nijika Ichiji notices her guitar and approaches Hitori, begging her to fill in for her band Kessoku Band, as their guitarist recently ditched them. Hitori finds herself getting dragged into Nijika's band and putting on a concert with them that very day. As anxious as this makes Hitori, she decides to stick with Kessoku Band and become their guitarist full-time, thinking this might be the opportunity she's been waiting for. But she's woefully unprepared for just how hard life in a band really is.

If there's one thing that made the anime for Bocchi The Rock famous, its not just its animation, but the sheer creativity that went into it. Motion is fluid and kinetic, the backgrounds are given the appropriate amount of detail without much in the way of clutter, and I'm so glad it didn't render the girls in CGI during the concert sequences. But the thing that makes Bocchi The Rock stand out in the animation department is the different art styles used to convey Bocchi's anxiety or state of mind, ranging from stop-motion claymation to intentionally low poly Nintendo 64-level CGI. The series even goes so far as to use stock live-action footage, not to hide animation short cuts, of which there are few, but for the sake of a joke, a visual gag, or to yet again convey something happening with Bocchi. For example: When Bocchi barfs from anxiety after a concert, footage of various waterfalls from the Yuda Dam in Iwate Prefecture. Do I even need to mention the memetic scene of Bocchi literally glitching out on the ground when presented with the idea of starting a social media account to promote the band? CloverWorks went all out in getting really experimental with the animation. Would you guys kill me if I said I feel Bocchi The Rock is better animated than K-On?

Of course, you can't have an anime about music without a good soundtrack to back it up, right? I admit I'm not an expert on music in and of itself, so I can't really comment on things like composition and the more technical aspects of music. Plus, all of Kessoku Band's songs consist of rock numbers, and rock isn't normally my preferred genre of music. That being said, the songs are all well-sung, well-made, and all serve their purpose in the narrative. The soundtrack itself is pretty good on its own, both in and out of context, so while there are some anime whose soundtracks I like better, Bocchi The Rock makes good use of its soundtrack, especially since it's an anime that's about making music. Speaking of that, one thing I really appreciate is that Bocchi The Rock actually goes out of its way to show just how hard being in a band is and making it big, such as selling tickets to meet quotas, the band making pretty common mistakes during their concerts, dealing with broken instruments, indifferent concert-goers, and the consequences that rise from those things. Given touched upon stuff like this very briefly, but not to the extent Bocchi The Rock does. That was one thing I admittedly didn't like about K-On: whenever the girls in that show had to deal with certain issues, they were always conveniently resolved by some contrivance that would never happen in real life, and they never really learned from said mistakes. Bocchi The Rock actually has the girls struggle and deal with the pros and cons of being in a new band and allows them to make mistakes.

Which is a nice segue into the characters and their overall characterization, and...I'm not gonna lie, the girls from Bocchi The Rock are much more developed and three-dimensional than the characters from K-On could ever hope to be, mainly because Bocchi actually allows its characters to have a good mix of both strengths and flaws that make them feel like regular high school kids and more than just simple moeblobs. Plus, any flaws they do have are used to meaningful effect and aren't presented as simple cute quirks that we're supposed to d'awww at, nor does the writing try to reduce them to nothing but walking moe stereotypes. For example, one thing I absolutely HATE about K-On is one particular scene where Yui has to get her guitar fixed, but apparently Yui, a teenager, legitimately had NO IDEA that she was supposed to actually pay money to have it fixed, and the only reason she got out of that situation was because Mugi paid for the repairs since Yui didn't have the money on her. This, to me, is bad writing because no teenager is so stupid that they don't know that you have to pay money for basically any repairs for anything, and because Yui doesn't face any consequences for this, as Mugi pays for the repairs because she's a convenient rich girl. This scene, to me, exemplifies K-On's problem as a whole: It's much more interested in infantilizing its characters for the sake of cashing in on the moe trend than actually caring about telling a story and fleshing out its characters beyond their main archetype. In Bocchi The Rock, the character Kita buys a bass which she mistook for a guitar, but she didn't know she bought a bass because the instrument she bought has six strings, and most basses have four strings. Since Kita flat-out admits that she's not very music-savvy and only took up playing guitar recently, it makes sense for her not to know much about basses, and the only reason she learns she made a mistake is because Ryo, who not only plays the bass but is very knowledgeable about them, informs her that some basses are made with six strings. So it makes sense that Kita would make this kind of mistake, and it's the kind of mistake any dumb teenager would make if they didn't know about this stuff beforehand. Plus, this mistake plays into the conflict that jump starts the series as a whole and has consequences for Kessoku Band, which I think is a stroke of genius on the creator's part.

But the big question is, how is its portrayal of Bocchi's anxiety? Honestly, as someone who has Generalized Anxiety Disorder and is autistic, I think Bocchi The Rock depicts anxiety pretty well. As over-the-top as it is, I found a lot of Bocchi's worries to be pretty relatable. I too have a tendency to overanalyze situations to the point of misreading them and assuming the worst, though unlike Bocchi, I often got bullied pretty badly throughout a good portion of my life, which was the main contributor to my own lack of self-esteem, self-worth, and sometimes self-loathing. I also appreciate that Bocchi The Rock depicts Bocchi's anxiety as a genuine issue that causes legitimate problems for her rather than trying to make it into a cute moe quirk to milk for easy sympathy, and any jokes made about it never cross the line into being mean-spirited (Except for one instance in episode 7, but that's as far as it goes). Plus the anime doesn't make her issues magically go away with the power of music and being in the spotlight, even in the final episode, which I definitely appreciate.

Honestly, to me, Bocchi The Rock has very little in terms of flaws. My only real gripes with it are that as much as I like Kikuri as a character, she was mainly just there to be the drunk lady whose antics are always played for laughs, though even that's offset by the fact that she often gets called out on her actions, along with the one bit of mean-spiritedness on the part of Bocchi's parents in episode 7. Plus, the anime ends on a pretty open-ended "read the manga" note, which some might not appreciate. But those are small potatoes compared to the big picture, and I'm happy I finally sat down and gave Bocchi The Rock a chance, because it's pretty much everything I wish K-On had been, and I can absolutely see why it became so popular, and in my opinion, it earned its popularity. Now I'm hoping some company will release the manga in English, because now I want to read it. Hey Crunchyroll! Care to give Bocchi The Rock an English dub and blu-ray release anytime soon? Because I'd love to own it!

It’s rare that slice of life anime can achieve a truly immersive and impactful story. It’s not often that music anime actually have great music. It’s not often that an all female cast is actually well written. And it’s definitely not often that the main character who is socially anxious and lonely is written well. That being said there are exceptions.

Bocchi the Rock has been without a doubt a huge surprise for me. I went in expecting a fun slice of life comedy that would hold my interest but be forgettable after watching it. I thought it would be overhyped and that people had given ... it too much credit. But. I was wrong. Severely wrong… Bocchi the Rock is an amazing show. I’ll say it straight, that Bocchi the Rock has been one of the best anime this year and one of the best slice of life anime ever made. Here’s why.

Firstly Bocchi the Rock has lovable characters. They are written well and are relatable, they aren’t complex but that’s a good thing. In this show the simplistic writing works in its favor because of the simple friendship that the characters experience. It conveys complex feelings through simple characters in a way that is hard to describe. Every character is handled with love, especially Bocchi. She is your typical social anxiety type character. Except unlike a certain character named Komi she actually is relatable and realistic in her writing. If you are introverted in the slightest you will find things to relate to with Bocchi as a character. She frets over every small thing but earnestly wants to change and try her best. I just have to say how refreshing it is to have a protagonist who has a real human personality and real human thoughts. It just makes those precious moments so much better and more rewarding. That’s not even getting to the music yet. Which I have to say is phenomenal. Not just the animation behind the performances but the music itself. It’s truly awesome to have an anime based around music to really try to achieve that level of music that it wants. The opening and endings are awesome, and the various songs in the show itself are even better. The performances are entertaining, they allow you to experience the moment and listen to the songs while getting a view on the characters thoughts during the event, and it works great. Additionally Bocchi the Rock actually has great comedy. It wasn’t always a hit for me, and some of the running gags weren’t always funny, but it genuinely made me smile and laugh oftentimes. I can say that it has significantly better comedy that most anime and it’s simply fun to watch. The characters are colorful and fun on screen, the dialogue it quirky and comical, and they took lots of time to actually animate out some of the jokes which made for some super entertaining scenes.

All in all Bocchi the Rock was a surprise to me. It quickly grabbed me and entertained me with each episode. It made me want more but satisfied with what I got. I eagerly wait it’s second season and I love the direction it is headed. I give it a score of 9/10 and I can say with confidence that it is a great show that many will enjoy. If the concept of a slice of life about a band of high school students sounds even remotely entertaining I promise it will not disappoint. It’s possibly my favorite slice of life anime ever, and definitely my favorite musical anime that I’ve watched yet.

You've all seen reasons this show is great from the other positive reviews, here's why some of the common criticisms are undue:
"But it's not relatable!" I'm an adult male with relatively few social issues compared to our protagonist. She's relatable not because I feel every little thing exactly as she does, but because it's a hyperbole of my own feelings that are hard to express artistically.
"But the characters are annoying!" You were or are a teenager. Lower your expectations for maturity.
"But K-on..." I know these shows technically overlap in genre (cgdct), but BTR puts much more emphasis on comedy and artistic representation of ... a mental state than K-on, which focuses more on teenagers acting like 5 year olds (it's fine if that's what you're into, but call it what it is). They just aren't the same beast.

As for my specific praises of this show:
- Bends the limits of expression via animation in ways I haven't seen before
- The humor appeals very directly to, let's say, people under 30. This is a plus for me.
- The commentary made on the music is actually reflected in the sound in real time despite not being blatantly obvious! It's such a good touch.

The main criticism that someone would have that I actually understand is that the humor appeals to younger people a lot more exclusively than other shows do. It's a trade off that I'm fine with.
10/10 so far.

"Bocchi the Rock" is an absolute masterpiece of an anime that I cannot recommend enough. The story follows Hitori Gotou, a lonely and socially anxious high school student who yearns to make friends and perform live with a band. When she meets the outgoing drummer Nijika Ijichi and the cool bassist Ryou Yamada, she is invited to join their band, Kessoku.

From the very beginning, "Bocchi the Rock" drew me in with its relatable and lovable characters. Hitori's struggles with social anxiety and her desire to overcome it are handled with sensitivity and care, and her growth throughout the series is heartwarming to watch. The other ... members of Kessoku are equally well-developed, and their dynamic as a band is both entertaining and touching.

But what truly sets "Bocchi the Rock" apart is its stellar soundtrack. The music in this anime is nothing short of amazing, with a variety of catchy and emotionally resonant songs that had me humming along long after the episodes ended. The performances by Kessoku are also visually stunning, with vibrant animation and dynamic camera work bringing their concerts to life.

Overall, "Bocchi the Rock" is a must-watch for any fans of music or coming-of-age stories. It is a heartwarming and uplifting tale that will have you rooting for Hitori and her friends every step of the way. I give it a perfect 10/10 and consider it to be one of the greatest works of this century.

- Amazing plot and story telling, each episode had great dialogue and progression which only made me want to watch more. The very 1st episode may not be the greatest introduction, but the story gets better and better.
- Incredible characters, with unique personalities. One of the few shows that was able to create a harmony amongst a diverse cast.
- Specatacular comedy, one that would leave you laughing for minutes.

- Elite animation, from the art style to the movement, to some scenes with 3d animation.
- The music scenes which are often harder to animate were also done beautifully.

Voice acting: 9.5
- Pretty good voice ... acting, the singing obviously stole the show, but overall VA was also incredible.

"Cute Girls Doing Cute Things" is not a fitting description for Bocchi the Rock!

A product that was very clearly made with passion by the studio behind it, Bocchi the Rock! was a smash hit in a packed season. Whether it be the characters, art, humor, music, or plot, this show is a shining example of what a Music Anime should be.

Characters:
Each of the main four girls brings something to the table. Hitori's crippling social anxiety, Nijika's leadership and positivity, Ryou's dry humor, and Ikuyo's shining aura all plays off each other in brilliant ways in this show. You won't have to worry about flat characters ... here, as each one has their own motivations, backstory, flaws and strengths that all mesh into Kessoku Band.

Art:
Some of the art in this show is fantastic. True eye-candy. Whether it be the CG Models based on real human actors, that were then drawn over to keep that "2D" feel for the concerts, or the brilliant rotoscoping work on some of the more intimate scenes, there was never a point in this show that looked bad. Besides the traditional stuff, there were many gags that completely swapped animation styles, messing with aspect ratio, 3D animation, and even stop-motion video!

Humor:
This show is funny. Whether it be references to current memes, game trailers, or even to other popular anime (Evangelion and Dragon Ball Z to name a few), a vast majority of the jokes land.

Music:
I was in awe listening to the music in this show. Songs played in the anime are NOT the studio versions, but separate "Live" recordings. This detail alone blew me away when I first realized it, and to anyone who has finished the show, I recommend listening to the studio recordings of the songs to try and see what's been tweaked.

Plot:
Without getting into spoiler territory, the show is about a high-school girl who's trying to break out of her social anxiety and make friends. While some may find the constant jokes around Hitori's anxiety to be in poor taste, the show uses this humor to show the viewer that, even with all her quirks, the members of Kessoku Band still truly care for her, and most other people just want to get to know her as well.

Overall:
Watch Bocchi the Rock! Do it, you'll be doing yourself a huge favor. The only thing that would make this show better would be to have more of it.

I'm not going to try and herald this as the greatest thing since slice bread, because it's not, but simply by virtue of being something so wholesome and real, with characters I actually like and root for, I can't write this off as just another moe feel-good cutesy mess.

Of course, the two main things you'll see everyone praise about this show are the animation (which I can't argue with, any show that breaks out the stop motion for a ten-second gag is targeted at me specifically) and the main character, with her social anxiety/introversion/awkwardness/whatever. While I can't say I wholeheartedly relate to the extreme ... level of introvert Bocchi is, I also respect that this show treats it in such a truthful manner; it's never written off as just some cutesy quirk of hers, she's allowed to have her moments of ugliness, vapidness and cringe that makes it feel "real", and makes you root for her to overcome it. I'm not going to say she's a deep, multi-layered character with interesting motivations and arcs; but she's likable and relatable, and sometimes that's enough. The other characters are a little less interesting. I don't particularly dislike any of them, but none of them ever seem to really have anything past their basic, surface-level traits. They're fun, and the main cast has good chemistry, but I don't think I ever felt drawn to any of them the way I did to Bocchi (other than goth PA, I want more goth PA).

The animation is a big draw, and I appreciate how willing the show is to get crazy with the visuals. Stop-motion, CG, rotoscoping, hand-drawn scribbles, animation glitches, everything gets thrown into the mix, and it really helps to heighten the show's comedic moments. Outside of that, the comedy is somewhat hit-or-miss; I personally don't find characters screaming funny in and of itself, and there is a certain degree of that. However, there were also a handful of moments that made me actually laugh out loud. Luckily, even when the jokes were a miss, I still felt compelled to keep watching, which is a strong point for a comedy like this.

Overall, do I buy into the hype of this show? Not completely, I think it's far from some sort of comedically-genius piece of transcendental fiction with real things to say about the human condition. But, it's a fun and wholesome little show about someone trying their best to get over their anxiety, and a show that allows them to fail at that sometimes, and I can appreciate that. I don't like it quite as much as the similarly-themed Zombieland Saga (at least the first season), but I look forward to seeing more of this, especially if we get more goth PA.

"Society is too scary!" - Bocchi

This may not surprise you, but I suffer from some social anxiety. I have gotten better in communicating as I grow older, but the pain in my chest constantly worrying about doing something wrong never goes away. I am far from the only one who suffers from this, and some anime have noticed that too. Hitori Bocchi and Watamote come to mind. While the former is a cute comedy and the latter is... a comedy, in terms of a good representation of social anxiety is and feels like, anime hasn't quite reached that yet... until Bocchi The Rock.

Bocchi follows a ... social anxiety ridden girl who learned guitar to join a band and become famous, but when the time comes that she actually joins a band she quickly realises that it ain't easy being a social anxiety ridden girl in a band. We then follow the story of the Kessoku Band in their quest to become popular. Most of this specific what you expect from a high school band trying to get big, which is why this is only a part of the anime. Yes, Bocchi The Rock isn't really about the Rock: It is about Bocchi.

Bocchi is the show. We follow her POV most of the time, the comedy is mostly centered around her, it is her story, and she is amazing. She is incredibly socially anxious and constantly monologues in her own head as a coping mechanism. What makes a difference between Bocchi from Bocchi The Rock and other socially anxious protagonists from other anime like Hitori Bocchi and Watamote is that Bocchi is 1. she is hilarious (we will get to that) and 2. she is genuine about her dreams and thus you really empathise with her. While her instincts constantly want her to run away, there is always a sliver of wanting to change herself, even if she overexagerates that sliver in her head. It isn't just that the circumstances around her got her into where she is, but she pushes with the little will she has to do what she knows is right. She learns to talk to people, to look them in the eyes, to ask others to hang out. The character development she gets in this season is subtle but means so much following her story.



And she is only able to get that development with the rest of the cast, which is equally amazing as her. What makes the main four so compelling is that each does so well the represent different character types that you would realistically find in real life.

The yellow haired Nijka is the most dependable of the group. She takes the initiative to really get the band going, and she basically acts as the balancer of all the different personalities in the group (even if that means to tease others). She is just a bowl of sunshine in which we really see how deep her passion and dreams are.

The blue haired Ryou is the quiet loner of the group, by choice that is. She loves doing things by herself, and thus has little interest in other people. She is still able to deliver great comedy, with how she tries to hide how truly incompetent she is in certain life aspects by her cool exterior (especially in money). Even if she feels like a distant figure sometimes, you really come to like her for also her deep rooted passion and just goofiness.

Then we have red haired Ikuyo, the trendy lesbian (like seriously over half her jokes are about how she is down bad for Ryou). Out of the three, she has the most layers as even though she acts as a trendy extrovert with lots of friends, the social anxiety beneath it all slips through. She is still a very genuine character, wanting to support Bocchi not just because she admires her but because she wants Bocchi to succeed too.

The side characters are also amazing, with each of them bringing something unique to the table. Seika, Nijka's big sister, is the adult of the anime, being really blunt but still compassionate. Kikuri is the alcoholic bassplayer who I might relate a little too much with at times. The entire family of Bocchi is are also so eccentric, especially Futari, Bocchi's little sister. I love Futari for being such a bringer of chaos but always doing that out of a childish love for her sister. Her antics are some of the highlights of the show I swear.



Now let's get to the thing you have all been waiting for: the comedy and production. Much of the humor of this show revolves around Bocchi's extreme social anxiety and the scenarios she makes up in her head. It is the classic staple of taking something small and overexagerating it to ridiculous proportions, and the way they over exagerate here is to create some of the best animated scenes of the year, holy crap.

It is quite amazing how they are able to have a joke like "Bocchi is scared about making a social media account" and animate it into Bocchi having a panic attack on the ground with her glitching in reality which cuts to a Junji Ito-esque animation showing why she is scared to make a social media account. This is only one example of how wild Bocchi's imagination gets visualised. The best part about this is that they don't just get creative of how they represent Bocchi's imaginations, but also creative in what animation medium they present it in. It is close to Pop Team Epic how multi-mixed media they get in this show, and it creates some of the most visually impressive and funniest scenes of the year.

But these visuals wouldn't work if the jokes weren't there to back them up, and they back them up. Despite most of the jokes surrounding Bocchi and her antics (which small critique can feel samey), they make them hopelessly relatable and develop them over the course of the anime. It is funny how the cast barely recognise Bocchi's anxious state in the beginning and gradually start to acknowledge and accept it until they get sucked into her anxious state too. Instead of constantly one-upping themselves, I always feel like the comedy in this anime gradually develops with the story and is able to branch out into other characters humor.



One thing I feel like is nearly not enough talked about is the sound of this anime. Holy fuck does this anime sound good, and that isn't just in the music.

Firstly, the voice acting is amazing. You really feel like the characters are talking to each other. Bocchi's voice actress Yoshino Aoyama is especially amazing, doing some incredibly impressive and funny screams of anxiety.

But the real star of the show is the sound design during the musical performances. Okay, the music? Really good, the tracks are pretty catchy and fun to listen to, but when the band performs them the sound design elevates their performances to god tier status'. Instead of just playing the song in full, the production went out of their way to make special performances of the songs. This way they can tell the story not just with the characters lines, not just seeing them visually perform them, but also listening to the mix of the songs. The way that their earlier performances sound sloppy with the intrustements being a bit off key but still hearing that glimmer of something special. This attention to detail in the sound design elevates scenes to a higher plane. Some of the best scenes I have ever seen and heard in anime.


Bocchi The Rock feels like the planets alligned to make this show. An extremely tallented team who were enormous fans of the source material coming together to share their crazy creative ideas to elevate the anime into something funny, memorable and special. I freaking love this anime. I can talk about the little nitpicks I have like the pacing of certain episodes or not all of the comedy hitting, but I don't care it is absolutely perfect. It is perfect enough for me.

This may not surprise you, but I highly recommend you to watch this show. I am sure you will love it too.

Bocchi the Rock is pretty good. It has a nice mix of humor from time to time, and Bocchi often does more to push herself forward when it matters. The humor is pretty good. The art direction is enjoyable, and the quality put into the show is clear with every episode.

But that's not what makes me rate the show what I did.

With NANA, Sakamichi no Apollon, and Given, music means much more than it did in Bocchi the Rock. In SnA and Given, characters conversed to each other with music, and that is what often gave the two shows larger staying power for ... me. Music as not some way to express a moment of youth and aspiration, but to actually open up to someone or to others by speaking to them with timings, jams, and "locking-in" to the general groove and direction everyone playing is feeling. Bocchi the Rock doesn't carry that same feeling. Bocchi doesn't have a musical conversation with anyone she's playing with. She's just playing with them and hoping to play her role in the group and hope they all can make some meaningful memories. Yes, she does muster up courage and takes charge, but it's mostly when she feels the need to carry the band through their inadequacies rather than make a musical break and organically jam with them. And that's fine and all, but with someone as introverted as her, it feels like wasted potential to not have her experience musical conversations similar to SnA and Given and lock-in with the people she plays with. Instead, she's an introverted girl in an anime landscape of introverted girls where "they dreamed they could so they did" but cuts herself short of becoming something greater, and really something more meaningful.

All of that being said, it's a show I would recommend since a LOT of people really like everything going for it, and with the popularity it has now, when another season pops up, hopefully Bocchi can actually "talk" to someone.

I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, the direct reference is K ON! but unlike that anime some of the jokes are more adult in this one. I really like that although it is a reference it is not a copy of the anime itself. I think the characters fit the story very well with their characteristic personalities. Hitori is a character with a very particular personality, since she is far from being the protagonist we are used to, she is a very shy and introverted girl. The music as always is excellent. I would like there to see a second season as soon ... as possible.

I consider that a high score such a 9/10 reflects more a feelings than what the anime really reflects in the visual matter, story and character development. But this is just my opinion, I feel that giving a high score would be exaggerating as I would like to see more to consider something like that.

This anime is just another level in girls doing cute things (or GDCT), everything in this show is beautiful
The MC is a real anxious person that is afraid of the world and is not like others characters that are shouting to his friend even when that same character has anxiety of people
In this anime all is evolving like in an amesome way? Maybe it takes time if u aren´t in slice of life genre but when the anime starts, it can fills u with chills
The story maybe can´t be the most original but is good, is like Half life, 2 the story of that games ... is the most cliche of the world, but have some quality cuz the hand of the creator and here happens the same
The art style fits with the story perfectly, i prefer K-on art cuz is more unique, but i can say the same of Bocchi
If u like anime in general u should give an opportunity to this anime

I stumbled upon this show while it was airing more or less by chance and wasn't sure if I would like it. I mean, I never watched any Idol-Show and even the mother of all "Cute girls form a band and having fun" - Shows aka K-On was still on my watchlist. I decided to give this show a try anyway and boy did I not regret it.

This anime is nothing short of amazing for so many reasons.
Let's start with the most obvious ones.
While the comedy itself is already enjoyable enough, the animation choices are, what makes this anime stand out from the ... rest. The animators used every thinkable form of art to help convey emotions (especially forms of anxiety inside Bocchi's head) or simply to make every fun part so much more ridiculous and also more memorable. Even after watching this show (twice), I still can't get enough of some of the scenes because of how hilarious and ingenuine they are portrayed.
You will understand it better after watching a couple of episodes.

To let these jokes fully flourish, what it takes are some harmonizing characters, and you won't get disappointed here as well. The band consists of our beloved anxious and therefore more or less relatable "Bocchi", the incredibly caring and motivating leader Nijika, our always cheerful and super cute Kita and...well...Ryo (jk, she's awesome as well). It is simply hard to find words for how well these four harmonize together. Their interactions are pure on one hand, then become completely ridiculous and over-the-top just seconds after. Paired with those ingenuine animations it really gave me an addicting mixture of pure joy.
In addition to those four, we were getting blessed with some amazing minor characters. Nijika's sister Seika, while being quite the tsun tsun tsun tsun tsun tsun tsun - dere at times, reveals herself as a quite kind-hearted and always supportive person who really wants to see Kessoku Band excel and grow. We then have Kikuri, our beloved and always drunk bassist from another band, who after meeting Bocchi continues to follow the journey of our group while also giving some helpful advice and just staying a source of positivity (although in a bit weirder way than Kita) all the way through.

The music is obviously a big focus of this show. The soundtrack is simply stunning, not just crushing various charts, but also staying in my mind for weeks after finishing the show. The album of "Kessoku Band" is definitely worth listening to if you enjoy this type of music.
Another thing I'm pretty amazed by (even though I have no knowledge about this and therefore no idea, how accurate this is) is the love for detail in those performances on stage. Every grip on the guitar and every motion of the drummer is as precise and realistic as possible. I watched some guys on YouTube explaining various performance scenes and I'm just trusting in their knowledge, but the love for every little detail seems to be pretty impressive and speaks also for the commitment and enthusiasm of the staff behind this show.

Last but not least is the Voice Acting something we have to mention. Because - you probably guessed it - it's nothing short but amazing. With the most memorable scene being the "Banshee Scream" from Bocchi's VA in Episode 4, every band member got voiced in a beautiful way, which enhanced the comedy of some scenes, but also just blended in really well with everyone's respective personalities.

Overall, Bocchi the Rock came out of nowhere and conquered a recognizable part of the anime fan scene. Being in the same season as Chainsaw Man, Spy X Family, Bleach, Mob Psycho, My Hero Academia, and Blue Lock and still being considered as anime of this very season by many people should already give you a feeling for the quality of this show.

So yeah, I think it's an amazing show and you should definitely give it a watch, even if this show might not appeal to you at first sight.

Bocchi the Rock is an anime that has risen through the ranks pretty shortly after it started airing, and it is not hard to see what the excitement and hype is all about. A music anime that finally isn't a carbon copy of K-On, and has a shy MC with social anxiety? Those are the trademarks of a good anime, and I enjoyed watching BTR quite a lot. I'll just list some of the things I thought the adaptation did well:

Unique Adaptation:
BTR is the rare case of an adaptation surpassing the source material (imo). Its very unique way of telling jokes, the clever use ... of multi-media shots in the middle of episodes, and its relaxing vibe all contribute to the spectacular anime BTR has become. BTR originated from a 4-koma manga, but it definitely doesn't feel like it.

Banger songs:
Of course, this anime heavily revolves around music, so the music has to be judged pretty critically. BTR has some really solid music, and even though it isn't 'revolutionary', it's still leagues better than the music of the average anime out there. Additionally, BTR perfectly encapsulates the style of a student band performing, both with the songs chosen and the style of execution.

Wholesome:
Bocchi is by nature an introverted person, and seeing her slowly come out of her shell is quite wholesome. The story portrays this in a very slow-paced manner, which I think is the way to go for this anime.

BTR is an overall splendid anime to watch no matter your anime preference (imo), as the quality of animation really shines through in the anime, not to mention the flavourful story it presents. I rate this anime a 9.4/10.

Where to begin with...

I enjoyed a lot watching this anime, because of many things. Some people may say "I got quite represented with Bocchi". I'm actually a person with a personality like Bocchi's one, but that's not the only reason why I liked this anime.

In my opinion, characters are well designed. What do I mean by this? I mainly mean two things:
1. Their appearance match with their personality. For example, just by looking at her design, Kita seems to be a joyful girl. And certainly she is. I think some people don't pay much attention to those details, but that makes things more enjoyable.
2. Drawings ... are neither too simple nor too realistic. For this, I want to emphasize that graphics change depending on the genre and the plot of a series. Based on this, I think "Bocchi the Rock" graphics are in balance with the anime genre and plot.

Another thing I enjoyed a lot from it are the crises Bocchi has. It might sound like "Hah, you enjoy people suffering", but I don't. You will like it too when you watch it. (If you haven't watched it yet).

I don't want to make this longer, even though I haven't mentioned some things. Therefore, to sum up, "Bocchi the Rock" is a very enjoyable anime for the reasons I have mentiones previously and for many many many others. That's why I really recommend watching it.

idk if ppl will relate/love this anime as much as i have idk if thats possible but holy mother of god is it amazing.

Some episodes in between can be a bit slow at times but I am glad I watched it for sure

Bocchi the Rock was a great surprise. I did not know the source manga, so I am recovering it piece by piece and it is quite good as well, even if the animated version adds one more "dimension" to it, and so are the seiyuu which in my opinion are quite good for the role.
So what is Bocchi the Rock? Well, it can be seen ad a SoL of the "Cute girls do cute things" category.
And indeed it is, but it is also much more. It is a work about the social anxiety (Bocchi or, pardon, Hitori, being a big example of it) ... and how your hobbies and passions can help you in overcoming it or, at least, improve your life. It is a music anime. It is a comedy.
It is full of citations and details, which show how much passion the authors and animators put in it.
The only problem? It has ended!
But, while waiting for the second season (I hope Clowerworks will gift it soon to us!) I will for sure rewatch it, and this is an indication, at least for me, that this is really a good work!
