Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Dreams are doomed to die in Night City, a futuristic Californian metropolis. As a teenager living in the city's slums, David Martinez is trying to fulfill his mother's lifelong wish for him to reach the top of Arasaka, the world's leading security corporation. To this end, he attends the prestigious Arasaka Academy while his mother works tirelessly to keep their family afloat.

When an incident with a street gang leaves David's life in tatters, he stumbles upon Sandevistan cyberware—a prosthetic that grants its wearer superhuman speed. Fueled by rage, David implants the device in his back, using it to exact revenge on one of his tormentors. This gets him expelled from the academy, shattering his hopes of ever making his mother proud.

After witnessing David's newfound abilities, the beautiful data thief Lucyna "Lucy" Kushinada offers to team up with him, handing him a ticket to salvation. However, associating with Lucy introduces David to the world of Edgerunners—cyborg criminals who will break any law for money. Edgerunners often lose their lives, if the cyberware does not break their minds first; but in his fight for survival inside a corrupt system, David is ready to risk it all.

Cyperpunk edgerunners is so different from other animes. You have watched many animes before ? Nah, when you watch Cyperpunk edgerunners, you are a newbie. In addition, the vibe of Cyberpunk edgerunners is so amazing. It is just a perfect masterpiece. Every scene is a art, every song can make you addicted to listen, every character has a dream. You can feel the vibe. Furthermore, i'm pretty sure that you are going to be obsessed with the song " I really want to stay at your house ". Watch the anime and enjoy the sadness. " A happier ending for folks like us ? Wrong ... city, wrong people " - Jhonny Silverhand.

Mixed Feelings

It's finally time to tackle one of the most overrated anime series I have ever seen. I have also not played Cyberpunk 2077 before, so I had next to no knowledge of the setting or the characters before going into this. Therefore I can't say if I would've enjoyed this more had I played the game prior.

Apart from the psychedelic visuals, violence and non-stop action, this show had almost nothing else to offer. The characters were 1-dimensional and uninteresting, personally didn't care for any of them. The character writing was just not that good, no way around it. There was just nothing going on for ... these characters. I personally value characters very high, in fact so much so that they can make or break a complete series for me.

The story itself started out rather promising and it seemed that there was something to grasp, only to completely fall apart towards the end. Nearing the end things just happened on the screen and I just wanted the show to be over while I kept checking the time remaining. There were few scenes around half way through the show that were decent. There was also finally something even resembling character development, but that was pretty much the highlight of the entire show. The action itself was enjoyable at times, but that's about it. Otherwise I found myself bored pretty much for the majority of the runtime.

Overall this anime was just very average and forgettable. I would not recommend this show to anyone who is looking for a good story or relatable, well-written characters. However if you have played Cyberpunk 2077, then sure you could pick this up, but just keep your expectations low.

This is one of the worst anime I've ever seen, I can't begin to imagine why so many people enjoyed this and how it could've possibly won Crunchyroll's anime of the year. Incredibly disappointed in Trigger which usually releases absolute bangers. The plot is so insultingly bad it made me angry to watch. The chemistry between Lucy and David is so stale and boring it's painful to watch. The character design is pretty bad in my opinion other than Becca, she's pretty adorable and was the only good part of the show. Even the opening was forgettable, the whole show was such a trudge to ... get through that the hype for this anime makes really no sense.
