Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai!

Uzaki-chan is a small girl with a sugoi dekai…heart. And breasts. Abnormally large breasts. I mean seriously, is this girl ok? Her proportions give cause for concern. The main dude should really get her a doctor or something!

The anime itself is pretty simplistic. It’s basically akin to Nagatoro-san and Takagi-san in that it features a cute girl pestering a flustered guy with the end goal being that they’ll probably get together by the conclusion of the series. Except so far, I don’t believe that Uzaki-chan has reached the level of the two aforementioned series. The comedy and interactions between the protagonists has had its ... moments, but generally I find myself getting bored with some of the scenes and dialog. And since this is the type of anime that won’t really have any drastic changes throughout the rest of its runtime, you can probably expect a similar execution for each remaining episode. I just hope that future scenarios will get me more invested.

While Uzaki as a character is pretty cute and energetic, I found myself liking the cafe owner the most. This dude and his daughter have honestly been the best part of the show for me, and I’ve been amused at how they just observe the main characters and provide commentary.

Audiovisuals have been fine so far. Voice acting is appropriate and the soundtrack is fitting. I’ve liked a lot of the backgrounds like the university and tech store, and the character designs look standard. Except Uzaki. There’s just something quite bizarre about her aesthetic. Though I guess I should say somethings, since there are actually two bulging problems with her look. But hey, I’m sure she appeals to a lot of people, so it’s fine I guess? Yeah, ok.

Uzaki-chan is a cute, lighthearted anime that should be watched if you just want to see some fun character interactions. Now there might be some depth to the show later on since it’s been teased in brief flashbacks that Uzaki drastically changed as a person thanks to her interactions with senpai back in high school, but we’ll just have to wait and see if that goes anywhere. Until then, Uzaki-chan will most likely continue to be a pretty basic anime.

I am not going to lie, I came into watching Uzaki-chan with little to no expectations. In fact, if anything I was hoping it would fill the occasional craving I get for viewing a “bad” anime, where the show’s poor story, bad characters, and laughable animation create a surreal cocktail of unintentional humor, and with Uzaki-chan’s main selling point seemingly being that its a troll comedy series with the main gimmick being Uzaki’s outlandish proportions you can’t really blame me for having such low expectations. However, in the end, Uzaki-chan surprised me by exciding my expectations and instead of being a much more mediocre experience ... residing in the cesspool of countless other anime rom-coms that caused me to neither regret my viewing experience, nor compel me to every rewatch or even linger in my mind.

While my assessment might sound harsh it does not mean I did not find any charm with Uzaki-chan, after all its characters and humor did compel me to finish the series. The main pair of Sakurai and Uzaki proves to be a decently well-written pair, with the show taking great strides to establish the pair as actual friends with hobbies and interests before sprinkling in ideas of romantic feeling. Coupled with some occasionally humorous jokes centered on wordplay and the fever dream that is episode 10, which serves as a 30-minute-long tourist ad for Tottori, I can definitely see how this show managed to gather a decently sized fanbase and enough support for a second season. Hell Uzaki-chan even dares to be one of the few animes to boldly go where few anime have gone before and actually have its setting be a university, a groundbreaking stride in the rom-com genre where life seemingly ends after high school.

However, the show’s setting perhaps best highlights my issue with the show feeling generic. Sure the series takes place in university; however, it never really does anything with its setting except use it to justify a hangover arc. The series plot follows the same romantic progression as most other anime rom-coms, and by that, I mean no progression, and while other shows could rely on its side cast, humor, or style to give it a unique edge, Uzaki-chan has none of that. The art style is generic, with weirdly choppy animation at times, its joke and comedic setups are on pair for the genre, and, outside of Master Asia being a barista, the side cast of Ami and Sakaki lack any interesting personalities or development outside of just being the friends of the central pair.

In the end, Uzaki-chan unsuccessfully hit my craving for a bad anime and proved itself to be a competently made show that provided a nice evening distraction; however, outside of a few decent jokes and one bizarre episode, Uzaki-chan fails to stand out in the saturated genre of rom-com anime.

There isn't much of a story besides it's own episode story line that changes with each episode. While the only main story there was, was the work place and apartment, those is what you see in the story a lot.

The visuals were not bad.

The series was funny at times but after a while I just sick of Uzaki, while I do agree she is cute and short with big boobas but the fact that she kept annoying Saki and never really learns what she does annoys him just pisses me off and Saki isn't any better, how does he not just ignore her ... and never talk to her again and when he manages to do so all of a sudden he feels guilty and has to make Uzaki feel better again only to instantly regret it when it works only to fall for the bs she bulls once again... he also never learns cause saki does it more than once.

It's one of those classic animes where the protag has many chances to do/get what they want only to not do it and just put up with a bs shit that happens to the protag...

First of all, I would like for people complaining about the "fan-service" in this anime to consider the following. Fan-service has been in anime/manga/cartoons for decades. There are much "worse" than this. If you wanna get triggered by actual fan-service, go watch To-Love-Ru, Rosario Vampire, High School DxD or literally any kind of harem anime/manga. If you don't want to get triggered, go watch Ippo or Jojo or Fist of the North Star, or just quit watching anime.

Now that i got that off of my chest, this isn't anything really superb. One of the reasons I'm watching this is because I really like the ... manga. its your typical loner senpai x KAWAII kouhai romcom shenanigans. I'm not saying that it's bad, but it's better than really anything airing this season. It is kinda funny just to see how much they troll each other and the delivery of their VA's works perfectly.

I will say that this is very faithful to the manga. the episodes really do blend chapter together very well and make it really cohesive. the only thing it really adds is music and voice acting. the voice acting is pretty much spot on from what i imagined in the manga and the music isn't bad at all. in fact, the OP is kinda of a banger and the ending is very nice and almost quiet. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the "flesh tooth." It looks weird in color.

Now, I would say that I am a fan of the manga and this is extremely faithful to it. Which brings up the question: Why not read the manga? Personally, I would just read it. you don't have to wait for a second season that may or may not come. It's published monthly, and ,for his first manga, i think hes doing pretty well considering there is an anime of it. If you watch this and want more, go read the manga. If you get triggered by this, stop watching anime and go cry about it on reddit.

P.S. I wrote this review at Ep.4. If anything really changes significantly, I'll update the review, but it is a solid 6 for now. Not bad but not great.

uhhhhh how do I start this...

It's a good little ecchi anime but it's just the same formula with ecchi anime's smh. The light story, mediocre characters (too much cliche), and just a really mediocre anime. I would be lying if I didn't enjoy this because I did but more in a bad way. This anime is just your regular type 3d Kanojo copy 30000.

I wanted to discuss the big melons girl, Uzaki, and my opinion of her. She's junkkkyyyyy but in a good way. I think her character is okay and she's a really good female character. She's light-headed and dumb as hell. (Cliche personality ... here) I think what I really don't like about her is how they made her big melons because she's so goddamn short but she has melons bigger than basketballs which are not for me lololol. Anyway, that's all I have for her. Other characters don't really matter to me because they all not important imo.

Story is mediocre. Just the same ass formula with ecchi's, but I kinda don't consider this an ecchi because 1.) It doesn't have a lot of scenes of ecchi things 2.) There's only like two girls that are ecchi girls material and 3.) It's more of a random anime to me. But storywise, it's mediocre. (But I love it anyway.)

Character Development, umm in ecchi's you probably don't even care about this stuff I guess but I do. They have pretty lame ones and nothing groundbreaking. As I said, this has a light-headed story so what did you expect?

Music is fairly good tbh. I like the ost used and the intro. But the ed is kinda too sad for an ecchi anime like Uzaki-chan wants to hang out! They use them fairly well and doesn't overuse them, thank god. It's not amazing nor trash.

But overall, I still think it's a good anime because something about this anime made me chuckle despite having really low expectations with this show. 6/10, still better than 3D Kanojo.

Uzaki-Chan is about two college students Uzaki and Sakurai. As the English title name says she always wants to hang out with sakurai,this causes a somewhat spark between them over time.
Story-3 it’s like every generic slice of life comedy romance, but I wanna see how the romance will progress.
Art-5 it’s very simple but I enjoy it by that I mean Uzaki character design and only her.
Sound-5 doesn’t need much explaining
Characters-5.5 I want to see how there romance progress besides that it’s pretty generic

Its an ok anime as I said 5/10

A romcom about a girl that like to tease a boy. By that setting, the first anime/manga that pop out from mind mostly is Skilled Teaser Takagi-san, and it’s hard not to use them as standard to compare this one with similar setting. That’s why a first time viewers or readers would be expecting a funny daily life of two person fighting each other with a small spice of romance development. But instead what we got here is a blushing daily life of a couple fighting each other with a small spice of humor.

The first few episode success to deliver a jokes but as the ... romance part develops, everything easily leads to blushing moments, at first this is still amusing to watch but later becomes boring because it’s repeated so many times. That’s not what I want, I’m looking for a funny entertainment here. On the contrary, Takagi consistent with teasing jokes all the way through and climaxed with a wholesome romance which give more smile to viewers because this small moment is rare and precious.

I understand this might result to a slower pace of story development, but too much predictable romance moments is not good either (ehem.. Nisekoi), while a lot of funny moments is good as long as they can keep the quality of the jokes itself. In the end Uzaki romance development is not that much either. Summary, having an appropriate allocation between rom & com is the recipe to make this genre success, on that note Uzaki needs to learn more from her younger senpai Takagi.

(additional unimportant note) It seems like few episodes in the middle was supposed to be a promotional tourist spot Tottori. At least that’s what on their mind while producing this, but zannen! Corona strike the world early this year. Maybe this also the reason why there’s too much romance that speed up the viewers getting bored.
Even if didn't match with the anime genre but I admit that the ED song Kokoro Knock is the best ost this season, beating a music dedicated anime ost Planetarium at 2nd spot.

an ecchi semi romance with nothing particularly special about it.

the main character has 0 agency for the majority, being dragged along the other characters choices. it's not rewarding to see someone engage in activities a real person would definetely refuse.

The characters aren't very multi dimensional personality wise and design wise none of them are unique except for uzaki, who looks like a child, but is supposed to be a young adult.
Both the voice and appearance aside from her breasts resemble a literal small child which makes any romantic development feel uncomfortable and not rewarding.

Overall the jokes are just repetitive and uncreative and mostly involve ... the protagonist being a loner and the girl lead teasing him for it, which maybe makes sense the first couple times, but after using the same thing for many of the episodes it's just not entertaining and becomes annoying quickly.

All in all it's an average experience and I'd say it's not worth your time if you're looking for anything with substance

Summer 2020 has been loaded with long-awaited sequels, some ecchi trash, and a show called "The God of High School" that is most certainly being overhyped (pending verification). That being said, there's a lot for me to watch in these coming weeks. A few days ago, I decided that the first show on the chopping block would be Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai. The last three anime I'd watched were Kenpuu Denki Berzerk, Shigofumi, and SukaSuka; all of which are emotionally heavy dramas with strong emphases on character. Needless to say, I needed a break. This show was the perfect weightless snack that I needed to cleanse ... my palate. However, as I'd kind of expected from the start, this show was not for me.

-[I do not like slice-of-life*]-
I do not like slice-of-life*. The asterisk is there for a reason. There are a few exceptions to this rule, but in general, I don't watch slice-of-life anime. Slice-of-life anime achieve nothing but taking a unnecessarily large slice out of your actual life. It's the type of shit you watch if you receive nutrients from a feeding tube. Utterly braindead, pointless, repetitive garbage. I astounded that people with jobs, family, and friends would take the time to watch this show.

Do you have a friend who simply cannot let go of an old joke? Isn't it tedious to listen to them parrot it to no end? Maybe the joke wasn't bad at first, but it lacked the longevity to merit repetition. Still, though the friend believes that repeating the joke will produce the same response. Yadda yadda. You get the point. I'm obviously alluding to the biggest mistake I've seen in slice-of-life anime which, in part, leads to their abject tedium. They're so goddamned repetitive.

How long exactly can one carry a joke? Well, it sort of depends on the format. Through something like a comic strip, you could reasonably carry on a joke- well- forever. You see, comic strips are a very low-investment type of media. If someone opens the weekly newspaper and reads an 8-panel comic strip, that process takes maybe a minute to complete. Contrast that with someone sitting down and watching a full-length 12-episode anime (with a second season coming by the way), and you begin to see the problem. The repetitious style of comedy does not lend itself to the TV-anime format. Now, I'm not so ignorant as to say that you have to watch these anime in one sitting. Obviously, it's meant to be watched on a weekly basis. Okay, sure. Then we're comparing a 1 minute investment to a 24 minute investment. Now, I'm not too good at math, but spending 24x the amount of time for such little payoff is just not worth it in my opinion.

-[Conclusion]-
Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai is the hot new piece of anime trash that people will watch and rate 10/10 because "Uzaki-Chan is fucking cute!". It isn't horrible, it's just a very poor investment of time. Go ahead and watch this show if you somehow have nothing better to do. I, personally, have a lot on my plate, so I'll pass.

Uzaki-chan is not worth my time. 5/10.

If you can get past the somewhat questionable character design, you've got a decent, but pretty unexceptional slice-of-life romance.

The show doesn't break a lot of new ground, but if you enjoy the dynamic of an outgoing and confident girl and a reclusive guy, then you'll be able to appreciate this. The art, music, and animation are nothing to write home about, but they don't really have to be. The show is inoffensive and pretty standard. Personally, as a bit of a reclusive guy who likes confident women, the show vibed with me. Unfortunately, I think the show doesn't really deserve that much of a ... reaction, whether positive or negative. It's fine. You could do better, and you could do worse. Check it out if this is the kind of thing you like, but otherwise, you won't miss that much.

The anime was average in almost every sense of the way. It’s premise is very straightforward and there’s not much to it, Uzaki is annoying and wants to hang out with her upperclassman. That said, Uzaki is annoying and made the anime much harder to watch as I personally didn’t enjoy any aspects of her. Fortunately enough for me, I enjoyed the side characters much more. The girl with glasses and her grandfather made it more bearable to watch as I got see them become excited and laugh at the situations that I didn’t enjoy. The music and the animations weren’t anything remarkable either so ... the show gets an average rating from me.

Like any Slice of Comedy that follows the formula of having characters do the same thing but slightly different, you will only enjoy Uzaki-chan if you like Uzaki-chan.

She is pretty damn annoying from a 3rd person point of view so I can only imagine what Sakurai has to put up with. As the series goes on, she eases up on the teasing and gets closer and more open to Sakurai which I found really cute. Along with the 2 mains, we have some supporting characters, that are quite enjoyable and add quite a lot to the scene.

What I didn't enjoy about this show ... however, is how sometimes, especially in the earlier episodes, they would pause for 3 seconds at a time, to continue with the dialogue. Doesn't seem like much, but, YOU try having a conversation where everytime the other person speaks, you have to wait 3 seconds before replying.

The animation was below average. It was just below the bar, if you ask me. The last episode really delivered in terms of animation and comedic timing, which makes sense, since they would have probably poured the remaining budget into it.

My final verdict is that it is an enjoyable show, with interesting side characters and fair animation but you will not like it at all if you don't like Uzaki's personality.

If Uzaki was the first slice of life ecchi romcom I'd ever seen I'd probably give it a solid 8 or 9. Basic humor is funny and I admit I chuckled a few times. A nice cheery piece for a crap year. And I really couldn't care less about the supposed drama over Uzakis' character design.

BUT. I've watched enough anime that by the second episode I could already predict how whole rest of the show would go. And by god did the stuff that irked me get on my nerves when I could see them coming.

While Uzaki is fairly entertaining, the MC is bland sauce ... and worst of all, a male tsundere. I used to enjoy tsunderes but after watching them sputter their awkward sexual tension that goes nowhere and act like the worst kind of possessive partners without actually being in official relationship for over 10 years of watching anime I can tell you I have very low tolerance for badly/blandly written tsunderes. And MC Sakurai is just that.

Speaking of sexual tension, Japan has some very odd notions of common sense. One of those is that if a boy and girl of nubile age sleep alone together in the same apartment, the boy WILL have sex with the girl. Consent is optional. So every time we get ecchi anime you see boys getting all flustered in such situation because they are supposedly going to have sex automatically. Except ironically in anime that never ever happens, the boys always pussy out (pun intended) and nothing happens. In fact I am convinced that Uzaki could grind naked on top of resident vanilla MC and he still wouldn't do anything with her, and it's just insulting that the anime expects any adult to even entertain the remote possibility of something happens. It really really doesn't help that the side characters keep egging the main characters on, and keep going to the tune of "Will they do it? Did they do it" over and over until you just want to grab them by their throats and scream: " Of course they didn't do it, nor will they do it! The sky will fall before anything like that happens with these two! What is the matter with you?!?"

And most of all, it is 12 episode adaption of a long running romcom manga. I knew what it would mean but I still powered through because I hoped for Uzaki to defy the norm and have some actual meaningful relationship development. But nuh-uh. You want to see actual progress, you either hop on to read the manga or wait for a couple of years for more seasons to come out sonny. Well that's my assumption anyway, might be that the manga has progressed as little over the course of 5 volumes as anime did with 12 episodes.

Second season has been announced so fingers crossed we actually get something, but I've been around long enough not to get my hopes up.

Romance animes with some ecchi bring about some interesting situations. The story is what set weather the anime will be to much ecchi or a good balance. This was a decent balance with the tease of the MCs getting together or not.

Serious characters are the best in these situations. I balances out the ecchi well. As for the comical female MC well there will always be something. The good, she was cute, energetic and when it was serious she was serious. the bad, she was a bit to dumb at times. But that is a comedy for you.

The secondary characters made for a ... cure and fun story as well, they don't push to hard, inject cute things, and are not to crazy. They follow the MCs flow pretty well in many positive ways and add some good fun.

In all, I enjoyed this anime. As for a good romance I would not recommend, but as a cute RomCom, yes it was cute and fun .. enough to finish. :)

There is nothing you're really going to get out of this aside from fun entertaining moments between the two main protagonists. This is a show that is obviously not catering to everyone, and doesn't pretend like it's trying to be. Similar to Takagi-san or Nagatoro, enjoying this type of female personality is an acquired taste that a lot of people really hate. I can totally understand where people come from when they say shes annoying or other less friendly feminine derogatory terms...

Anyway, I do find it enjoyable as sort of a brain filler. I usually watch this series at work when I am able to ... stare at a screen and multi-task. Most likely when I am done with this series I will forget it exists unless someone brings it up. And man, are people bringing it up with the controversy surrounding Uzaki's appearance! (Which isn't exactly unknown in the realm of anime - so I am unsure of why she is specifically targeted over others.) Like they say, any publicity is good. It's actually why I dove into it myself.

If you're looking for some >:3 smug girl, you've got your anime! I also enjoy the opening song a lot, a cute little bop for a cute rambunctious college girl.

I dropped this anime because it is just not really good. Its one of those anime that is considered "problematic" on twitter. I thought this anime might be decent considering how many people supported this anime but this anime is nothing special.

It's an alright show.
Very average in almost every way.
The our main characters each have their personalities and get into weekly antics but nothing really changes.
They both stick to how they already act and there's no big character flaws that they overcome, they hardly grow as people tho Uzaki learns how to get drunk and Sak starts hanging out. It wasn't something he was apposed to before, he was just content to do things on his own.
Also, a tad refreshing that this ISN'T about Highschoolers, they are first and second year college students and do have to do some adultish things.
All I get out of the ... show is a bit of wish fulfillment, of course I'd like a cute bubbly girl as a friend that I goof off with and have similar interests. The show doesn't ever get especially funny, just repeating it's own bits over and over but Now They're at a Beach!
If you're looking for fan-service, it's rare. There's that VR scene early on, and later there's a bunny-girl outfit for a minute but it honestly this show is barely about fan service. Uzaki just happens to have beautiful voluptuous jugs, and the extent of her acknowledging how excited she makes any man is that her canonically favorite shirt says REALLY BIG.
It would be a 5/10 but I mean look at Uzaki-chan!

S2 has a better rating on MAL so I don't know if that because it's better or if only people that liked S1 watched it so people that didn't, didn't bother to rate S2 and therefore the score screwed up a bit.

🔴 Synopsis: Shinichi Sakurai is a young man who is just looking to have some peace and quiet. However, his partner Hana Uzaki is not going to let him rest, as she keeps playing pranks on him and taking him out to party whenever she can.

🔴 Opinion: I came to the series because of the massive criticism regarding the "unreal" body of the main character (with people for and against, and even women showing that their body matches Uzaki's). What ... did I find? A series that made me laugh a lot, and in which physical appearance is not the central argument of the series. Obviously it's a fairly visible aspect, but I insist: it's not the central theme. Near the end of the season the comic part is lost and becomes something much more romantic, which I personally didn't like, but because I'm more of a fan of comedies.

Recommended: Yes, it has very funny moments and I think it's worth it.

🔴 Continuity: Immediately after finishing the 12 episodes, a second season was announced, to be released in 2022. The curious thing is that S1 adapted most of the manga stories, leaving little material to adapt, so it is not clear how many episodes the new season will have or if it will add original arcs.

My first impression of the work was rather negative. Firstly, Sakurai's voice, the main male character, bothered me quite a bit. They chose to go with a voice that matched his "terrifying at first glance" appearance, which is heavily emphasized throughout the episodes. The fact that his gaze is scary and surprising, but in "normal" dialogues, his voice is a bit too deep to fit the situations. His voice doesn't quite match well with the moments when Sakurai will be calmer. However, with Uzaki, although he frequently raises his voice, he is also quite calm and transparent by nature. However, to contrast with what I ... just said, Uzaki's voice is simply perfect for the character. Oozora Naomi, her Seiyū, has beautifully interpreted her character; it's a 10/10!

Another thing that bothered me considerably is obviously the hypersexualization of Uzaki. Like many other works, the humor revolves around the sexualization of its characters, mainly the girls. Yes, you might say that in the case of Uzaki-chan, the story unfolds when they are 19-20 years old, unlike other stories that are often set in the 13-17 age range. But I feel like they gave the characters this age just to justify Uzaki's sexualization, even though she is 19-20 years old, she still has the physique of a teenager.. However, regarding the sexualization, I admit to having laughed a lot during this first season, and that's a HUGE positive point because we don't watch this anime to cry or to delve into a very deep plot, but to follow a slice of life, bringing us smiles, joy, and laughter. I make a lot of comparisons, but I found that although sexualized, the humor in this work was finer, less stupid than many others. For example, I laughed a lot at the moments when the two characters use their words very poorly in public and everyone around misunderstands things. It's something we've seen before, but the way the situations are created is different, although I couldn't explain it.

The animation is nice with some super original shots that resemble 3D at times (it looks a bit like fake 3D, but it's executed quite well). Season 1 was released in 2020, right in the middle of COVID, so I imagine they had complications like everyone else, but the quality was not affected at all! However, I didn't notice any outstanding music, it's quite subjective, but there's nothing particularly original in the OP or the ED, nor in the OST.

I liked the little references to other works, such as Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Uzaki directly references Jotaro and Kakyoin, and there are also references to Conan and many others!

If you're looking for an anime simply to laugh and enjoy the joy and good humor of a character, I recommend Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai! If you're looking for something more structured, with a storyline following a plot, or something that can bring you different emotions (because this first season is practically all positive), I wouldn't recommend it.
