It's an alright show.
Very average in almost every way.
The our main characters each have their personalities and get into weekly antics but nothing really changes.
They both stick to how they already act and there's no big character flaws that they overcome, they hardly grow as people tho Uzaki learns how to get drunk and Sak starts hanging out. It wasn't something he was apposed to before, he was just content to do things on his own.
Also, a tad refreshing that this ISN'T about Highschoolers, they are first and second year college students and do have to do some adultish things.
All I get out of the
...
show is a bit of wish fulfillment, of course I'd like a cute bubbly girl as a friend that I goof off with and have similar interests. The show doesn't ever get especially funny, just repeating it's own bits over and over but Now They're at a Beach!
If you're looking for fan-service, it's rare. There's that VR scene early on, and later there's a bunny-girl outfit for a minute but it honestly this show is barely about fan service. Uzaki just happens to have beautiful voluptuous jugs, and the extent of her acknowledging how excited she makes any man is that her canonically favorite shirt says REALLY BIG.
It would be a 5/10 but I mean look at Uzaki-chan!
S2 has a better rating on MAL so I don't know if that because it's better or if only people that liked S1 watched it so people that didn't, didn't bother to rate S2 and therefore the score screwed up a bit.

The BOTTOM LINE: The show is 80% tired old tropes and 20% something really cool.
Out the gate the show is fun and sets it's characters up with difficulties about themselves and their lives to overcome. Though during the meet of the first season until about episode 11 it meanders with a lot of characters that don't matter and wastes more time with flashbacks for these people who still don't matter. The meet here feels uninspired and only in place to set a few things up while also pacing it out so that the characters have something to grow from. In other words the plot needed
...
to go somewhere so it simple went through the motions.
The mystery of the island, the Elixer of Life, and Gabimarus past are all solid. The island and it's inhabitents are potently bizzare and intriging. Gabimaru is someone that I think you would root for. (heheh plant joke unintended) Senta while beeing largely a background character did end up having my favorite scene in this season and there a handful of supporting cast that do effectively come off as very cool. Guys Yuzuriha is prelubbed.
I digress.... This show doesn't strike me as modern MAPPA but doesn't have it's moments of some sweet animation. It came off to me like MAPPA has all these new hires and needed them to get their feet wet. Which honestly is a good system but I haven't actually looked into who worked on this.
In conclution I think the show is MOSTLY average with a handful of parts that keep it interesting enough to keep watching and an ending to the season that feels like it'll only get better.

Spoiler free quicky:
An amazing display of animation and music. Story is the conclusion of a messy series but I think is able to rise above it because it doesn't have to deal with so many details that a series has to over 51 episodes. While I was feeling very positive about the movie the ending caught me off guard. I think and I've seen quite a many others say the same. The ending drops the ball and needlessly. I'm giving it a 8/10 but that's honestly despite the 3/10 ending.
My original review which was written in the comment section of an anime site that I'll
...
never say the name of.
1: Amazing animation. Literally screamed "GOD!" during the Wrath fight.
2: Music was also amazing
3: For the most part I liked the story based on the original series. FMA03 already had its poor logic but this being a more contained story that messiness didn't matter as much. That said I think the ending was SUCH a fumble. They should NOT have gone back. The reasoning was unnecessary and there was no reason not to wrap up a completely happy and satisfying ending to it all with Ed, Al, and Winry together. This was the END of FMA03 and it's a pointlessly bitter-semi-sweet end.
4: Seriously people need to bring up this animation more. I need some more Studio Bones movies.

This is a mixed bag.
But it's a bag filled with the things I love.
Let me start by saying the show takes 5 episodes to show off what kind of story it's offering. Any reviews from before that are really missing a lot of what the show is.
Let's not bury the lead. This show starts off fairly standard but executed very intelligently and slowly it starts to become something very unique. The romance and relationships are mature and complex. We only start out looking trope-y but use that to evolve character, while the plot is something that plays beautiful homage to the time period of '06-'07.
...
This is a show about creatives made by creatives. If you are yourself someone creative I think you'll identify and relate hardcore to the whole thing.
That said, I felt from very early on that there is a lot of thought and emotion put into the story here. By episode 3 you hit the first emotional high that had me nearly crying. It's the kind of thing were you're just so taken by the passion the main characters bring that makes you feel right with them, the same kind of rush as something like a sports anime.
But the show hides it's maturity and it's one of the few anime that will let some real relationships develop. Not like a shonnen where they just keep blushing thinking "I hope they like me." NO there's way more respect than that here.
The time travel mechanic is, I think, done in a really smart way here. It only reminds you of it to forward the motivation of the main character and occasionally arms him with some insight. But the fact the this is 2006 is really used here and you may have extra appreciation for this if you've seen Haruhi Suzumiya which debuted in '06.
Character designs are okay but the other dude, Tsurayuki, looks plain as a background character and the MC is pretty generic looking.
I also want to note I really like the sound mixing. When something goes off screen and the audio pans with them it's done exceptionally well.
Hopefully I wasn't too all over the place. My first review on MAL because I wanted to really shout out this show that I think is going under the radar. I was close to passing on it but I'm so incredibly glad I didn't.
The opening line was written after seeing episode 7 (wow) the rest til now was from after watching just five episodes. Having finished now I can say all the praise I gave it is true and the show only gets more impactful and interesting.
I highly recommend this show and is my Anime of the Season.
This is especially great for those in creative fields, they're making a video game here but I think anyone who CREATES can relate heavily. After all games are made by passionate people, and artists, writers, programmers, editors. Highly relatable show.

So the premise is a young man who is a shut-in NEET (GAMER) is secretly given an experimental drug by his sister. The man wakes up to find his body is transformed into the body of a middle school girl. The is no acknowledgment of how incredible a de-aging drug is but I digress.
At it's heart the show goes way beyond it's premise, that could have easily been a premise that leads to many perversions, but really this is a story about a NEET who learns to live life in a more fuller way, make new friends and reconnect with his sister.
A quote in the
...
last episode explains it beautifully. This is his New Life Plus. (a pun on New Game+ from video games. heheh)
This is a show that I'd slot into the Horny-Wholesome genre similar to Miss Kobayashis Dragon Maid. I'm told the Manga doesn't have the sprinkling of fan service and I'd assume that right. The FS isn't often it's really just a cut to some JIGGLE every episode or two. I'll tell you h'wat it's very well animated.
There have been lots of comparisons to IRL Trans people and I don't really see that as a good comparison. This premise is far too extreme to be a realistic metaphor with only a the most minor and surface level similarities. I wouldn't really look at the show that way, there's just so many differences in the situation that it seems odd to me. A story about transitioning would be one that's actually about the process, about the identity dysphoria. It'd seem disrespectful to me to say the magic potion this guy drinks is at all like what Trans people go through. It's really just about a person learning to look at life differently and creating connections with people in a very cute package
Being turned into a middle school girl is such an interesting way to teach him these new values. He's unidentifiable from who he was before, and while needing to learn to live as the opposite gender he has to learn many new things, that process of learning the new perspective and what unique struggles girls have, opens up his mind to learning about relationships with friends and family.
Animation and art is constantly cute and this lovely pastel with lovely half-tone dots and shapes to just cute up the screen that extra bit. Zero complaints about the visuals. It's visual choices really make the show stand out from the ocean of other anime, it's good to see something that knows how to create it's own identity. You can look at any screenshot and know it's from this show.
