Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken

Slime starts off as a pretty decent Isekai. Season 1 especially started off really strong - it felt kind of like a progression / cultivation / LitRPG, with an incredibly OP character who slowly builds a community. It has levelling up, skill strengthening, ally recruitment, and town building - the kind of storytelling I find oddly compelling! I couldn't put the first 15 episodes down AND it was really funny!

However, the show pretty frustratingly and quickly devolves into totally unnecessary fan service (later with a loli character, which is a hard no / red flag for me), and the plot becomes way less interesting ... over the last few arcs. I'm hopeful that S3 will better.

There's a very specific kind of enjoyment which you can get from Reincarnated as a Slime, and the best comparison I can make - which might explain that enjoyment - is to time-loop movies. Movies like The Edge of Tomorrow or Source Code focus on an initially-incompetent protagonist being repeatedly put through the same sequence of events in the same place and trying to achieve some kind of goal.

At the beginning, the protagonist repeatedly fails or dies because they don't know what's coming next. But eventually, they begin to map out the possibilities and anticipate the events in their reality, and figures out the ... best way to get through the obstacles, or the right thing to do at the right time, in order to succeed. And at the point that the protagonist has finally managed to git gud, you get a vicarious sense of enjoyment from watching them.

That's pretty much what Slime is like, except, crucially, without the first part - which is to say, the part where the protagonist actually struggles. This basically turns the anime into a weirdly fun, oddly amusing journey through a fairly stereotypical isekai setting where the protagonist constantly makes the right choices, level-grinds (so to speak) in order to get all the powerful abilities he needs to consistently destroy his opponents, makes the right alliances to build up his kingdom, etc. If he was some kind of stereotypically handsome cool guy, this would probably be really annoying, but he's a literal slime, so it just becomes oddly funny to watch him take over a goblin village and turn it into a built-up town which is home to a multi-species coalition, or to befriend a legendary storm dragon just by being around and not being scared to talk to him.

If this sounds undistinguished and like it might be kind of boring, that's because it probably would be, which is why I decided to be fair and give it 5 out of 10. Certainly, after the entertaining early parts where Rimuru the Slime consistently wrecks every opponent he faces and becomes the founder of a new nation, there's a deeply shitty final arc where he has to babysit a bunch of annoying kids, which sucks. However, if you have nothing else to do and find isekai kind of annoying, it might be fun to watch a show where a super-powerful slime basically rampages through an isekai setting just by being smart, having a bunch of rare abilities, and using his common sense.

What started off as an interesting premise quickly degraded into yet another generic isekai story. A 30-something year old man is killed and reborn into a fantasy world as a slime, with abilities developed from his last words stated as a human. As a slime, Rimuru gains godlike strength by absorbing every creature in his path and gaining their abilities. Instead of slowly developing these abilities, he masters them at the blink of an eye and one-shots future enemies within a few minutes, barely allowing him to get any kind of character growth. The gimmick of being reincarnated as an OP version of one of ... the typically weakest creatures in fantasy/RPG games is a cute idea that sells the story, but gets stale fast.

While the majority of Tensura revolves around the development of Rimuru's village, that might be the only interesting part. The forgettable supporting characters have no personality and are mostly one-note, and aren't given any growth outside of their initial dilemmas. Battles are fairly boring - Rimuru gives them the old "that was cool, but watch this" OHKO move and that's it. We never stray from the formula of new enemy -> 5 second battle -> join my village, only rinse and repeat ad nauseam. By the time the second half of the season rolled around, watching Tensura became more of a tedious chore than having a fun experience.

As somewhat of a newcomer to the isekai genre, I'm not sure if this is pretty par for the course, but it definitely bored me out of exploring the genre further. Guarantee you can find doujins of Shion's tits more entertaining and better written than this show.

While I do enjoy a different take on the isekai genre i do feel like this anime is not all that different to any other anime.

Honestly the characters are bland. Main character is so Mary Sue and overpowered it just seriously gets to predictable as the series progresses. Barely anything is a problem for our main character it's so bland.

The supporting cast are into, what I can see, into 2 categories: Dumbass and boobs

Seriously nearly any female character is depicted with either giant boobs or "flat chest"
Their only contributing is to fall for the main character without any rhyme or reason.

I feel that the ... only support characters with any development are the Male characters. And they are ok, but not enough for me to care to much about them.

And while the fan service isn't all that much here it is pretty obvious when it gets on screen.

If you like more developed characters, even the support cast, then I would recommend you rather watch Log Horizon. A good isekai story with enjoyable characters that is actually believable

I am a big fan of Isekai stuff, and, well, this anime is for me a tiny bit of enjoyment with a lot of frustration. I had read much the manga before watching the anime. (Oh, and btw I dropped watching anime around ep 15)

Where do the enjoyment comes from ?

The story in itself is quite good as an isekai, especially the quite original stuff with slime. Drawings are really good, and most animations are as well. However, soundtracks are awesome, with a lot of variations, and generally used at the right time.

Where do the frustration comes from ?

First, MC is too overpowered, ... and other characters are existent and selfless. Usually I love overpowered MC, especially overpowered progression ones. So, what is the problem here ? There is no feeling of tension, the MC never overcomes something, it just instantly solves every problems appearing. It may had be fun, as in OnePunchMan for example, but it isn't fun, or maybe not funny enough for me to laugh.
Second, the rhythm of the story is... Well, monotonic. Actually, there is no real rhythm. And I suppose this is what makes a big difference with the manga. When you read the manga, you choose the speed of the events, by reading slower or faster. Here you can't, so everything is way too slow, and you feel no difference between a casual meal and an "epic" fight.

Should you watch it ?
This anime is not so bad, it is just filled with a lot of useless and unpleasant moment. I would advise to either :
- Watch while doing something else (coding, cuddling with your cat ...) so you don't feel the monotony.
- Read the manga while listening to the OST of the anime

Please note : if it is your first "isekai" anime, you will probably just appreciate it, so watch it normally :)

That Time I Reincarnated as a Slime (Slime) was the show I was not expecting anything out of and then it surprised me by being pleasantly good only to slowly burn all that goodwill away leaving me with what I expected at the start another generic isekia (a genre where the protagonist is whisked away to another world) show.

Slime starts with how a lot of these shows do as an overworked salaryman is stabbed and murdered when he tries to defend a co-worker from a thief ( huh I guess Truck-kun must have been out sick for the day). He is then given the option ... to reincarnate in another world and given some advantages that give him quite the edge against most of the denizens of his new world. After meeting with a mighty dragon named Valdora, they become friends and to free him from his imprisonment Rimaru ( the protagonist who is now a slime)absorbs him. This causes Valdora to disappear and creates a power vacuum in the forest where Rimaru has spawned. Rimaru comes upon some goblins and decides to help them.

From this point, the show turns into a lite kingdom building show. Which let me tell you if done right is one of my favorite genre's. But therein lies the problem. I much enjoyed much of the start where Rimeru starts a village, and it becomes more powerful and prosperous, but at the same time, it felt like the whole show was rushing to get through some story beats. This is problematic as a good kingdom building story needs a decent amount of time to explore the minutia of the process of starting a state. Slime is also the rare case where I have read the source material( keeping in mind I dropped it a ways back as I had caught up to the current issue of the light novel, but it never was enjoyable enough to go back and catch up) to know that they were skipping a lot of crucial details.

As for the cast, Rimeru is a nice guy who tries to settle things amicably first in most scenarios. He was a reasonably exciting character to follow — the rest though not so much. No one was awful, but in that same vein, no one stuck out either. It has only been one day, and I have forgotten about most of them. I am sure I could tell you a detail or two but nothing that would make them memorable.

Animation wise Slime was nothing to write home about. In the sound department, it was the same nothing stuck out. The OP was good, but that was about all.

All in all, Slime is going to be the show I forget about two weeks from now unremarkable in many ways. It is alright, but I would not recommend watching this show.

Welcome to TenSura, one of the latest additions to the niche and undersaturated genre known as "isekai" *laugh track plays*. Since there are about 17 isekais produced every anime season, studios have realized that in order to produce a truly successful isekai, they need to grab the viewer's attention in the first couple episodes. What happens after that? Eh, who cares. The show's already popular.

Story (4/10): I believe one of the greatest flaws of TenSura is the concept itself. The idea of a light-hearted Overlord may sound good on paper, but it fails in execution. Overlord works as a show because Ainz is cool. The ... problem with TenSura is that Rimuru really... isn't cool. He's OP in a Kirito-like, boring way, in that he lacks any personality other than being an average, nice person. After the pretty good first few episodes (up through the establishment of the goblin village) Rimuru just doesn't do anything interesting. I'm struggling to recall what actually happened in the arcs because there's not really anything connecting them. Rimuru just goes to some random place and gets more allies for his village by talking to them. Personally, I don't find that this makes for a very entertaining show. There's no overarching plot, no "cool factor," and no tension since Rimuru can easily defeat any enemy with his OP isekai protagonist skills. Oh yeah, apparently there was a comedy aspect here? I didn't find it funny, and apparently MAL didn't either since this show doesn't have a comedy tag.

Characters (5/10): Who? The only character listed as a "main" in TenSura is Rimuru, who, as discussed above, I do not like. The other characters include a harem of personality-less dolls, some side characters like Souei who attempt to compensate for Rimuru's lack of coolness, and random characters that appear once and are never brought up again. Shizu, the only character that may be argued to be "well-written" is nothing but a well-disguised MacGuffin. All she does is progress the plot.

I'd like to talk about the random side characters in further detail. The problem here is that this season is pretty much an introduction into the universe. You get all of these characters that are simply introduced and left alone, like demon lord with clown servants, demon lord with blonde hair, knight girl who is hinted to be Shizu's disciple, those adventurers from the guild near the end of the show, and probably others that I've forgotten about. They're probably going to be important in the next season, but what about this season?

Art (8/10): Pretty solid. The character designs are relatively memorable. The color scheme and the overall art help build the comforting, light-hearted atmosphere that the show strives for. The fights are nicely animated.

Sound (8/10): Idk why I'm giving this a high rating. There's this one OST that plays during every battle that's stuck in my head, so apparently that somehow makes the sound good. The OP and ED themes also nicely mirror the quality of the show. Just like the show was good at the start and became a drag, the first OP and ED were good, and the second ones really weren't.

Enjoyment & Overall (6/10): TenSura was extremely bland, but I can't really give it a lower rating since it was decent enough for me to have the desire to watch every new episode. I'm really hoping that this was simply a setup season and that season two will be better, since this season seems to lay the groundwork and nothing else, but only time will tell.

A lot of animated series fall into a similar trap of making the protagonist overpowered to an extreme. And this particular series went into making a Mary Sue.

Unfortunately, that once you completely realize that the protagonist is a Sue, which happens by about 6th episode, you sadly keep watching because the world and story surrounding the protagonist is quite decent.
It’s interesting most of the time to watch how world works, skipping through a ton of pretentious dialogs and fights of the protagonist.
It even gives a slight feel that the world might be living outside of the protagonist line of sight!

But alas, ... deeper into the series you also notice that you’re skipping more and more of the episode just to get to the point. You actually stop caring about the main hero and want to know more about certain other characters or antagonists by this point.

Overall, I’d score it to be somewhere between 6 and 7. Good idea, good setup but mediocre development.

To be honest the amount of good reviews this anime has baffles me. It feels like an anime that was made for kids but ended up being marketed to the older fan base. I have a few but very major problems with this anime and here they are:

My first problem is with the story. The start is promising, the last word being "Erase my Hard Drive" was gold. But it takes a strange turn from there. I feel the story takes too many sharp turns to avoid confrontations because it would be a pain to resolve them. Like the part about punishing the orcs or ... the absolute submissions of the wolves after their leader was killed. It's understandable why the indestructible slime has such an easy time trusting these people but there is little to no politics shown in areas where a political story line would thrive. Most moment that are supposed to be meaningful feel a little forced and therefore takes all meaning out of them. Fights for the most part are settled in the quickest way possible which usually leads to the other character submitting in fear (that seems to be intended for comedic effect but falls closer to the line of shameless), laughing as though they are some high and mighty being that approve of the little guy and are impressed by him and his potential to grow (of which we barely see any) or coming to the realization that they messed up big time and being defeated. There no sense of danger and every battle is just a wait until the MC takes on the main bad guy and defeats him, later finding some reason to forgive everyone involved in the incident as though nothing happened, a sentiment which is then also followed by everyone under his wing. Then comes the unconditional love of all creatures for a being who has named them. This is one aspect that is not further explored. The tension between characters is non existent and plagues the story, making it almost unbearable. Think about being in a room where everyone is supportive, happy, excited and jumpy but all the while giving the impression that it is all fake, that's how genuine a feeling you get when watching this anime

Next the Characters. The development of characters is one of the laziest I have seen in anime. It's not Isekai wa Smartphone bad but not impressive nonetheless. It seems as though the character just have an epiphany about how great Slime-sama is and just fall in love with him. The goblins are perhaps the only ones with a justifiable reason as to why they trust him so much: they are a weak race that found a protector. But the other races seam to just trust him because why not. The only character with an extensive backstory is the hero who only appears for a short while and is then killed off to give the MC a body. Their undying loyalty to the slime leaves little to no wiggle room for moral dilemmas or story arcs of personal growth and redemption for the other characters. It's as though they are on the same page about everything and have no thoughts of their own, one example being how the ogres choose to forgive the orcs after their entire clan was wiped out simply because the slime said so. The uniformity of their thoughts leaves a bad taste in my mouth because in any situation it is a given that people have different opinions, one of the reasons I don't like this show as much as others. The MC seems to be too good to be relatable with. There are no impending flaws in his character as shown by his almost infinite forgiveness and self sacrifice. He constantly makes moves that would make the people rely on him more and then seems surprised as to why that happens in the first place. There is only extreme bad and extreme good with the only in between being the extreme good being influenced by the extreme bad to do bad things.

In short, if you're not looking for something to get attached to and just want a casual watch then this anime is a good place to go. Otherwise I suggest skipping it.

Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken is not a bad anime and is definitely not a bad story, though i do have some gripes with the way it was adapted from it source material. Just to put some problems in perspective i will compare it to another adaptation of a manga this season (I've read both and watched both) goblin slayer.

If we first take the anime in a vacuum, it an ok anime, one of those zainy shows you watch and keep coming back to even tho there is not much happening.
The characters don't get a lot development and a re very one note, the ... art style, and animation is quite average. Sound is mostly fine but in my opinion Rimuru's voice makes my ears bleed every time he opens his mouth and the opening gets pretty old pretty fast.

Now the real problem i have with the anime is its pacing and this is where the comparing will start.
Goblin slayer adaptation has managed to cover assembling its core cast in episode 3 and moved the plot at enjoyable pace blasting through its material in a pace comprehensive to a new time watcher and very enjoyable for me.
In the mean time Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken is 9 episodes deep and still hasn't started the first main arc hasn't has barley just finished setting up the premise for the big story arc and probably wont reach the manga status quo of the "village" for at least the next few episodes.

In conclusion there was never enough material for a 24 season anime and doing a one piece on it and filing the anime with hidden filler like long shots and padded conversions just ruins it for me, but you might find more enjoyment in it if you binge watch it when it finished airing coz the story is fine getting little snipits of the story every week is just tedious.

"You admire a character for trying more than for their successes."

I want you to keep this rule in mind until the very end of this review.

Reincarnated as a Slime hooked me in with a very interesting premise: the MC is reincarnated into a fantasy world as a slime (surprise, surprise). To me, this was interesting because you'd generally think that a slime is supposed to be the weakest creature in a fantasy setting, right? ... So how does MC manage to change anything in this world as such a laughable mob?

Here's the catch: as a slime, the MC can absorb any ability/form of any creature he digests.

Okay, so that sounds a little OP at first, but I accepted it. Maybe there was some sort of drawback to this that the anime can throw in to really make you and MC think. And also, the opening DID immediately spoil that MC is going to get a human form anyways, basically making the idea that he'll struggle being stuck as a slime pointless... but I wanted to still give the show a fair chance.

So in the beginning, you see MC working hard to absorb whatever monsters and items he can in his initial setting and then using those new skills and items later on to assist others and himself. My initial reactions were the same as most of the other high-scoring reviewers of this show: it was cute to see everyone getting along because MC came by and started helping them with their problems. I had a grin and some good laughs along the way, too.

I started thinking to myself: "Wow! MC is a really good hero! He's fighting for peace and helping so many people! MC is a great hero! MC is... a perfect hero. MC is perfect, like how I wanna be."

MC is perfect, like how I wanna be.

This is where the biggest problem lies.

While it was adorable to see MC being so successful at first despite his (supposedly) limited form, that feeling quickly began to die down as the episodes ticked away. While considering the failures to successes MC has faced, you begin to realize how unbalanced the scale is in favor of his successes. MC resolves conflicts with little to no struggle; you can literally see this with how his face seldom turns into concern especially in the later episodes when they're (supposedly) fighting a formidable foe. MC's plans almost always work, and if they don't, it's because someone else screwed up rather than his plan being flawed.

Then, you begin to size up MC's relationships with other characters. NOBODY, other than the bad guys, has an issue with him. And if they do, they either get slapped silly out of a misunderstanding and end up bowing at his feet, or outright destroyed/humiliated. You even have certain female characters closely associated with MC fighting over his affection. Everybody loves MC, including one character who had his dad killed by him.

MC isn't flawed as a slime. He's OVERPOWERED as one.

MC is God incarnate; everyone bows to MC because he is capable of doing literally anything. Super strong bad guys? MC will take them out or convert them into good guys. Fatally injured good guys? MC will easily heal them back and even give them an upgrade if he hasn't already.

The last nail to the coffin for me came at the end of Episode 13, where the viewer is presented with a shot of MC flying with bat wings in the air as he's in his human form. This scene bothered me the most because it basically encapsulated the whole problem I was having with the show now. That initial interest about how MC will survive as a measly slime? Gone, because again, he's overpowered. He even has a human form now, so what is really lost with him being reincarnated as a slime?

Episode 14 hammered that nail down, with how MC disposed of a major foe. I won't spoil how, but this is all you need to know: there was little struggle, it wasn't a very long fight, and in the end, everything worked out for the MC and crew. I know there was one last episode of the season and there's probably more content coming afterwards. But by this point, I was done, and I doubt one more episode was somehow going to fix these issues.

It doesn't matter how good or bad you think the sound or animation is. The fact of the matter is, Reincarnated as a Slime is a power-fantasy. And that isn't a good thing for a show that sets itself up by making the MC seem like he's set in an impossible situation he has to work around.

Still remember that quote I started this review with? Well, here it all comes, full circle.

What makes a character memorable to the most possible people is what method and how long it takes for the character to overcome an obstacle, be it a physical or emotional one. It isn't how much cool shit they can pull off while they're on-screen. It's the flaws of the character, how those flaws impact the relationships and situations the character is in, and how the character develops to fix those flaws (if he/she even fixes them at all by the end of the show/season). Reincarnated as a Slime's MC has none of that. He's already well set; he isn't scared of combat and whenever he has been so far, his fears were clearly misplaced as he's basically immortal by this point. And keep in mind, we're in SEASON ONE.

Maybe I'm judging this show too soon; maybe there is more to it that will show the MC's flaws and he'll really grow as a character. Maybe MC will face a serious challenge pushing his wits. But so far, I haven't seen any of that, not even in the art somehow. In my mind, the show has gone from: "Oh jeez, I wonder how all the characters will get out of this!" to "I wonder when MC is gonna show up to quickly fix this problem?" The stakes are too damn low and have been from the very beginning. And consequently, it creates a show with lost potential.

Reincarnated as a Slime isn't SAO done right. It's SAO, slime-boy edition (minus the gaming).

Interesting original concept, poorly executed to keep any serious interest.

That time I got reincarnated as a slime is an interesting show, if you asked me what my favourite show was in the fall season I would have said slime without a doubt, that’s not the case after the winter season. It’s not that it got worse or anything, it’s just that it never changed in any way, all of the interactions are almost the exact same every time. There are 2 different ways that an interaction with a new character can happen

1. Arrogant new characters appear and underestimate our power protagonist(s), when shown the power of the protagonist they become humbled and are ... shocked by how forgiving he is of them for their previous arrogance

2. The arrogant character is a very powerful loli that switches sides when given food

In both cases it’s likely that they join Rimuru and if there are non human characters involved they get names and become very human looking, it gets old after a while, it’s the same thing every time with very little differences, not to mention that’s there’s no suspense because the protagonists can seemingly fight anybody and anything without any problems.

It’s not that I hate the show or anything, it has very good animation and I love watching his little nation grow, but in the end it’s strengths aren’t enough to put it at an above average rating, if you like isekai then you’ll probably like this but for me this is a 5/10

This is my 1st time in my 2 years on MAL ever writing a review. And that’s only because I’m so baffled as to how this series has been getting so much praise above other Isekai. Every issue that the anime community has with Isekai all exist, in full force, within Slime.

When this series first started I quite in enjoyed. Slimes are typically low leveled creatures in RPG games. My initial reaction to the title was that this would be a series about a man reincarnating into a fantasy world as one of the weakest creatures. Which would have been immensely interesting to see.

However, what ... we received is an overpowered MC, with no flaws, and is barely breaking a sweat surviving in a new world.

I enjoyed the first few episodes, despite the OP MC. They were very feel go and it was entertaining seeing the MC adjust to this world and meeting the creatures that inhabit it.

It doesn’t take long for this to get old though. Then you realize that the show has no conflict. Technically there is conflict within the story, but I say “no conflict” because MC solves every issue so effortlessly that it might as well not have been a problem to begin with.

I think the thing that annoys me the most is the fact that the main cast have no type of disagreements or grievances was Rimuru. Everyone just has overwhelming love for him and worships him. It’s as if he’s Slime Jesus.

I guess people like the feel good, stress free nature of the series. But You can’t keep a action series running with no tension or struggle between the heroes and villains. And it’s not like the series exceeds in animation, art, and sound. It’s all average on those fronts

Another anime in the wide family of isekais. The question is then: Does it bring anything new or interesting to the genre?
The answer is no. Breakdown:

- Art: 9/10
Let's start with a good point, fights were very pleasant to watch, from choreographs to effects. I'm not a good judge of art, but that was good enough for me, even exceeded a few expectations.

- Sound: 5/10
For this one I'm biased, despite trying hard I still cannot stand the vast majority of anime music. Little girls shouting in a microphone is not pleasant to my ears. However, ambient music and sounds were alright, skip intro and ... ending if you're like me.

- Characters: 3/10
The main issue in this anime. Main protagonist was resurrected and transmigrated from another universe, this isekai hero is just like any other isekai hero: Overpowered, hardly relatable with, his anterior life is irrelevant, not adding any value to the story. Worse, while the character was a grown up man in their original world, their psychology is completely morphed into that of a teen girl for the sake of matching appearance.
Regarding the rest of the cast, except for a few somewhat interesting characters, we have our usual harem of super-badass, ultra-dedicated, huge-breasted females swarming around the hero. Shall I repeat... Boring?

- Story: 2/10
World with magic, kingdoms, beasts, demons, main character surrounds himself with tons of large-breasted allies, gets unexpected favors constantly and Deux Ex Machina every 3 episodes... Boring.

- Enjoyment: 5/10
Fully unplug your brain, and you may have some fun.
That's what I hoped, but on my part this little voice in my head "this is nonsense", "seen that... that too", "doesn't make sense at all" wouldn't be quiet, due to the very low quality of the story and characters.

Overall: 5/10
While watching these 24 episodes was a complete waste of time in terms of enrichment, discovering interesting stories and universes, it does offer some enjoyment and has a few, rare redeeming qualities, mostly fights.
Hence if your only alternative is to stare at a blank wall, you may prefer watching this anime. You may.

Not to say that I loved it, but this is probably my favorite "it's in the game" series that I've yet seen. This is a 37 year old man - basically the type of person who plays Civilization. Once he gets in this fantasy world, his goal is to make a kingdom out of all these monsters. They give themselves names, roles, etc.

The show's gotten boring in it's second half if I'm being honest, but I like how the first half "ended".

The show has a surprisingly big heart and I would check it out if you like this type of show. I don't know if ... you don't because I don't know if it's strong enough to recommend to everyone. But it was doing well for itself in it's first half, so there's that.

Story: I’m not a big fan of isekai i think the genre on a whole has limitless potential but is being held back by shows who drop their premises for stupid cliches and that time I got reincarnated as a slime is one of them. Things that should be explained aren’t like the naming of a monster or magicules which only exist for magic powers and nothing else. Anonther big problem is the cut and dryness that the show has, instead of showing us the struggles of a growing nation it opts for a more laid back view which is very lazy since their’s so ... much untouched potential examples: introduce foreign nations that wish for some control over the nation, introduce season and natural disasters that might affect the growth of said nation and give more depth to the resources of the nation instead of oh we have that or we can use that. If there was one piece of advice I could give the show is that it need to start taking itself seriously and stop doing so when it feels like it.

Characters: oh boy, the characters in this show are driven by one serious problem that I’ve seen so many times in isekais *take deep breath* they love to circle jerk the main character like he’s some glorious being that touched us with his presence, but this time instead of his looks or muscles, it’s his leadership skills characters might have a past but it is easily replaced with how great slime boy is or how kind and calm he behaves. They don’t feel like real characters but instead circle jerkers who just love to cum praise on the main character. If it was up to me I would start slime boy off as a crappy leader who at first failed to protect the goblin village from the first few attacks but gradually learns from his mistakes and builds a defense that protects the goblins and wins the day. My next big problem is with shitzu (whatever her name is), her character feels so crammed in their just to get a tear jerk, I felt nothing really. Finally the show suffers from lacking a antagonist that seems have some threat or danger and not some clown in makeup. ( best villain was Gannon the pig king he seemed to put of a good fight and added a fair bit of tension to the story and in someway a twisted look at our main character)

As for art and ost I think it was ok wasn’t anything special, I like the scene where Link defeats Gannon and his penis just start to extends and start glimmering in the sunlight it was cool.


Overall: 6 or 5 for me

This is a replacement-level isekai anime.

Do you want a fantasy anime where you live vicariously through an MC who, like you, is a sad loser, but, unlike you, will be transported to world where he is incredibly important, hyper-capable, and adored? Yup, this is one of those. Production values are good. Conceptually the story's fun, and the early episodes are witty and well executed. I enjoyed how the protagonist uses his ridiculous powers to build a society, rather than just defeat villains.

Unfortunately, the writer made the common mistake of a protagonist so powerful that there is no dramatic tension. Tensei Slime's Rimuru has no weaknesses. ... He will wreck everyone. Towards the end of the series, there is increasingly the feeling that each new arc is just a cardboard cutout for the MC to knock down and be praised for his heroism. This is probably fine if you're just looking for wish fulfillment.

If you want a series about a MC influencing global politics with actual dramatic tension, *Death Note* and *Code Geass* are worthy classics. They're getting old enough that you kids reading this may not know them, so they're worth a name drop.

Man I had high hopes for this show. It started off alright.
The typical "reason why this person got sent to another world" wasn't so bad I can actually say I liked it.
The world building in the beginning was great. We see different people/monsters or whatever you call them and see the main characters interaction with them and how it helps him become a known figure in his world.
I generally did enjoy the show until is got to the second half and it went downhill for me.
The story:
First half pretty good kept me entertained and wanted to see how the main ... character resolves his issues with other races and what not. But then the second half got slow and wasn't anything noteworthy.
The art:
It was nice not amazing or anything to blow me away but it was nice.
Sound:
Average nothing amazing again typical opening typical voice acting typical everything. Ost? dont remember
Characters:
The main character was great. He was an understand but charismatic individual that is easily lovable. Uhhhh the rest have their moments but can fall into the background just as easily.
Overall its not a bad watch if you need something to watch in the meantime. Rate: 6

This review will probably be brief!

This anime started off strong. It built up intrigue about where it might go, introduced a few very interesting characters and while Rimuru was largely a Gary Stu type of figure once he got into the swing of things, the characters around him were compelling and had room to grow.
Then the first arc ended and he literally ate the most compelling plot thread they had going.
In its place we got a bunch of non-enemies who didn't pose enough of a threat to anything, or were straight up diplomacy-ed into not being enemies anymore. Then a big-ish conspiracy involving ... clowns happened and I authentically stopped being able to watch it.

This anime showed the capacity for depth, then it immediately filled itself with enough helium to make Christopher Judge sound like Megan Mullally circa Will and Grace.
It killed the compelling part of the plot halfway through, throwing away the question of whether Rimuru could be challenged, and whether the person whose appearance he appropriated would ever get vengeance.

Almost as big a disappointment as Overlord.

Let me start by saying it is an Isekai.

Yeah we all know where this is going now arent we??

Well let me elaborate and say that this belongs to the flood of nation-building Isekais where this is one of the few that became an anime. And let's just say that the subgenre within the isekai world isn't exactly known for it's improved writing. Even worse it actually tries it's hand on politics which I must say, spare us the embarrassment cause this is dumb.

Slime is your run of the mill power fantasy isekai that serves pretty much everything on a platter for the MC without ... much fuss except for trying to make it seem a bit more epic.
A bit like going to a french cuisine experience restaurant where you get served a few leaves and a block of ice while someone is blowing scented air into your face in a dark room. In the end, the food still sucks. If anything this is exactly the kind of stuff that the konosuba anime is making fun of.

There are some attempts to create emotional bonding moments but due to the inability of the writers to "kill your darlings" and "pacing is key" this often falls under the buss of cliché comedy and copy-paste one-liners from a cast of characters that are as forgettable as last days breakfast.

The show doesn't add anything new or even try to do existing things better. It just dumps it all in a checklist of popular things and sprinkles comedy on top of it to make it palpable.

Now the show isn't all bad if you want happy go lucky escapism with cute characters making noises and actually enjoy the repeated harem isekai clichés and fanservice like a true person of culture this show is quite enjoyable in that regard. And I would recommend watching it from that perspective instead. :)
