Warning : this contains story spoilers ! This review is mostly for those who had read the manga and wonder whether to watch it or not.
This anime is nice to watch on a chilling moment, but don't expect to be baffled !

I'll first cover good parts, and then the "uuuh" one.

Story overall is good. It sticks pretty well on the manga. Without being absolutely outstanding, it is fairly good, especially if you like isekai stuff.

Art is well done (except for a point we'll see later). 3D CGI is questionable, but overall even this is well done and not much of a bother. ...

Sound is close to amazing, and OST are clean AF and well timed. Only went for 8 because sometimes, it feels like those amazing musics are underused. Opening is especially amazing.

Characters are as in the manga. Their design is fair, without being super outstanding. Not bad, yet not particularly amazing. A bit of cliché, but not bothering at all, even quite entertaining.

Enjoyment is high for most of the anime, the mood is really lightweight and quite funny, and I think this part has been super well transcribed from the manga.

So, why overall only 6 ?
Well, because I feel like some parts are missing, and some parts are way too much.
Rape scenes are way to insisted on, even if they are like... Not primordial to the story. Feels like twisted and corrupted fan service.
In in the manga, the MC has *frigtening abilities*, and that it hasn't well transcribed in the anime in my opinion, which leads to the big weakness of this anime, taking it from overall 9-10 to 6 : episode 12.

This last episode is corresponding, in the manga, to the first display of Arc using really strong spells, e.g summoning Ifrit to take down an Hydra. Annnnnd. Nothing is right there. The hydra feels super dull, same for Ifrit. The fight is slow and not well paced. It spans more than half the episode, while in the manga it was only few frames.
And what is paining me is that they don't picture well how much of an overpowered abomination Ifrit is in the manga. In the manga, Arc isn't much fighting the Hydra : he summons Ifrit and Ifrit brutally destroys the hydra in a few steps.
In the anime, UUUUH, Ifrit does close to nothing, and passively waits. And this is super sad. Hope next seasons will not be like that.

Wow. Just wow. This anime has some minor flaws, some incoherence but overall :
- Story is clearly well done, simple enough to be understood easily, but deep enough to not be guessed to much. Alternating light comedy and serious drama.
- Art is really nice, especially if you like anime of this epoch, old-and-simple style.
- Sound design is well done, and some musics are really cool, inspiring, and from an original creating comparing to music you usually hear in animes.
- Characters are various, well balanced and well developed.

Enjoyment : Maximal in my opinion.
Overall : DUDE ITS 2020 in less than one ... month, this anime aired in 2003 and some of the series aired in 2018 as a reminder, how come you didn't watched it yet ?

Hello there. I am rewriting a review since I now have seen all 12 eps.
This will be a bit concise since I don't want to spoil people.

Conclusion first, if you don't want to read full : Watch it. That's all. I think you can not appreciate this anime as much as me, but at least you will enjoy it.

Story :
- Physics are all f****d up, which is on some part necessary for a sci-fi story, but some mistakes could have been avoided. Plot has some incoherence if you look into details, but overall it is wonderful : really deep and really well ... tied up, as well as full of surprises.

Art :
- 10/10 no problem, animations are good, drawings are good, and art style is extremely diversified (you will understand what I meant while watching).

Sound :
- OST are fairly good and placed at the right place.

Characters :
- Really well developed and diversified, importance accorded to each main/second character is balanced through all characters. And that's especially appreciable in 2019, the time of cringy Isekai with a not developed MC surrounded by dozens of empty sidekicks.
- Some characters are a bit stereotyped, but that's not really bothering since it is light.

Enjoyment :
- Really good, from start to end, there is no filler, action and rhythm is varying often, keeping you awake, alternating between tense and relaxing moments. The end is really cool too.

(So, first, please not I watched first four eps quite quickly, sometime skipping parts, because first ep looked horrible to me, so I wanted to confirm if it was staying horrible)

In french, we have a word for a moment of strong, long and consensual feel of discomfort :
"Le malaise".

That's exactly how I would describe this anime.

That's the typical problem of Isekai anime with a really restricted question in the title. Translation of the title is something like "Do You Like Your Mom? Her Normal Attack is Two Attacks at Full Power". This pretty much summarizes the anime :

1) Overly protective mother, ... quite lost in a video game world, where she is with her son.
2) mother gets overpowered skills. (Until now the synopsis is still good from my POV)
3) An enemy shows, MC is just bad and get destroyed.
4) Mother destroys the enemy while saying "don't touch to my son"
5) repeat 3 and 4 and add some ecchi fan service with a bit of light incest.

The general idea of the story, having an OP mom, is quite fun. But fun ends up after 5 minutes in episode 1, because it gets soooo damn repetitive.

Story : Wait, is there a storyline ?

Art : Nice drawing, animations a bit slow and lacking rhythm, but nothing really wrong here

Sounds : Quite nice, yet not outstanding.

Character : Wow. Mother, who as important as MC is ... well, definitely annoying. Nearly every character is annoying. MC is annoying, Sidekick magician is annoying, Enemies are annoying. Everything is soooooo cliché, and not a good cliché.

My enjoyment ? : really bad BUT still a bit saved because of art

Conclusion ? :
I rated it 4, and there is a reason :
I, personally, don't like this anime. Probably because I read/watched way too much manga/anime isekai cancer. But I think that some people may like this anime. Especially if you like stories a bit dumb, like Isekai Slime, you may like this anime. I'm not putting any judgement on you here, just saying.
I would have preferred a mother a bit more mature, a MC a bit more powerful, and some synergy between them.
If you feel like it, watch it, but be ready to be deceived.

Overwhelming. I read a lot of manga and watch a lot of animes. From Isekai to Hentai, passing by romance, sports and usual shonens. I think I never wrote an All-10 review ever would it be for a film, an anime or a video game. Because, contrary to books and mangas, anime, video games and films does not allow much your imagination to correct flaws.

This anime is an absolute 10.

It's style is amazing, being at the same time funny, relaxing and deep. It is full of ecchi stuff, crude jokes and all that usually I can't stand in animes. But it's partly what ... makes it a masterpiece. It gets codes of shonen and epic, mock them but at the same time allows epicness to be. It is a mix of nearly every genre of anime, perfectly balanced.

- Story is definitely wonderful. At first it may seem just like a random comedy anime story, but it proves, as the story goes on, to be deep and interesting, with cliffhangers, morals and perfect rhythm.

- Art is "I have rarely, if not never, seen drawings as good, with intelligent lighting and so dynamic animations." Tension is touchable, violence is felt with every hit, love is there all warm. Everything is represented right.

- Sound is awesome, actors plays are good. But best of all about sound is music. Musics are pretty sneaky in this anime, you don't notice them often. But when you notice them, you know this is a moment when artists decided you should notice music, and OST are just wonderful and diversified.

- Characters are definitely worked on a lot. There is one MC as always, but second and third circles characters are definitely on pair with MC in term of design, development and importance. You easily feel empathy for each character, they are all different, but all interesting to watch evolve.

- Enjoyment is definitely constant, the anime is neither too short nor too long, and conclusion is clean. I watched every eps in only two segments, and never I got bored. Hardest part was to stop at ep 6 to go sleeping and take back ep 7 the day after.

SO, should you watch this ? Well, yes, a BIG YES. But, be warned. This anime is gross, a bit sexual and violent. It still is a masterpiece, but please be warned it can make you uneasy if you are not a bit open minded. If you don't think you can get offended, just stop reading and watch it. First because I don't have anything more to say, second because the anime is P E R F E C T.

HUUUUU ? Bro, read the manga, DON'T watch the anime unless you are familiar with isekai style and you already read the manga, and if you want to learn how to drive. Please note I only watched 4 eps so far, and this review may be deleted if the anime happpens to be better in later eps.

First, let's see what is common between manga and anime :

Story is, well, not wonderful, but I would say, pretty OK, and quite nice for an Isekai. Drawings are really good, characters are not wonderful, but pretty OK as the story, and probably good quality for an Isekai. ...

Now, enjoyment of the manga was, for me, faaaar higher than the anime. So, why ?

First, art. In the manga, the first part is extra dark, the hero definitely struggles to survives, and is close to become insane. Drawings are wonderful. Yet in the anime, the world is sooooo fucking colorful (Like a F****** RAINBOW HYDRA) that it feels a bit ridiculous, but i could have been both original and twisted if the animations and rhythms were not a complete failure. There is absolutely no difference between moments of tension and moments of relaxation. It felt as if I was taking a driving lesson with an uncaring teacher : "Ok now, turn left, don't forget your signal, then turn right. Shoot the boss. Please park here". It's even more painful since I enjoyed the manga a lot. Music is also totally out of context, even if it is fairly good, it is always misplaced, making the whole scenes completely ridiculous.

Second, story and characters. I already picture you like "EEEE you said story was the same", but... Well it is the same, but from an entirely different point of view. MC will create weapons a bit alike those from our world. In the manga, this feels pretty OK, because of the dark ambiance : he creates some killing stuff he knows from our world. But in the anime.... The cringe is strong when he creates himself a barrett-looking railgun, dark and all, for fighting rainbow monsters and not forgetting to use his signal before turning.

Hello there, are you tired of shonens with cliched plots and characters ?
Here for you is a shonen with cliched plots and characters :) But a good one it seems.

Let's first dig in what is done right :
Drawings are wonderful, story is not especially original but fair enough to be good, animations are nice, sound is pretty cool, characters are a bit cliched but overall nice.
Overall a cool anime. In first eps, I rated it 10+.

But, as I'm reaching ep 17 soon (well, when it will have aired), some things begins to annoy me. And here I already see you coming and saying "Eeeee ... you said everything was cool to wonderful, how can it be annoying?". Well, the anime becomes a bit inconsistent. At first it was an heavy and dark mood, with some funny cuts inside. Kind of a serious shonen. And it was wonderful. Know as for eps 14 15 16, there are both wonderful, deep and serious moments as well as nice humour, but more and more filling is appearing. Characters crying for too long, jokes kept alive for no reason etc... And it's a bit frustrating, and breaking anime rhythm.

So, should you watch it ? YES, at least 10 first eps, and then decide by yourself. The story is still fair to watch as of ep 16, and drawings/animations are time to time wondeful.

Let's see how the anime goes on !

I'll be quite quick :

This manga is "not that bad" from what I have read (up to chapter 17), but it feels like every other low-mid tier Isekai : full of incoherence, with a flat story.


Conclusion first (so you don't read the potential spoilers): As every Isekai, this can be an interesting read for someone not used to "reborn in a new world" type of stories. If you have read other Isekai, like Word Magic or Solo Leveling, just pass by.

From now on their can be some spoils in my review, even if I will try to not.

First, this is the cliché of the OP ... MC, a bit like in Reborn as a Slime manga : There is no real challenge in comparison to him, he adapts way too quickly to the situation.

Second, power level of characters are inconsistent : MC is supposed to be OP and able to destroy a country etc, being unique, but there are bad guys stronger than him ?

Third, the second character, a girl transported with him, is also a blessed magician, but "less blessed", and here is the biggest problem in this manga I think : At first I thought like they would be on an equal level, or even the girl would be, power side, stronger than the MC (she is like "quad elemental" while MC is "unique", which would have been wonderful to have the MC be a support type), but no, she is just ... well, shadowed by the MC from the chapter like .. 2 ? So no wonderful character development unfortunately...

I only watched the first 4 episodes of the anime, and it matches the "Isekai sinking type" anime.
This anime starts by a nearly perfect first episode, i would rate it 9 or 10 out of 10, the MC is enlightened in comparison to the mange, and a certain epic scene is really epic.
Then comes the second episode. Which I would rate around 7 or 8 out of 10 : the rhythm is a little slow, but overall the episode is OK, introducing new characters, some unease moments, but that's ok.
And here the third episode comes. Lets rate it 9 or ... 10, but out of 50 this time. here the mediocrity appears. Characters are unbalanced, yet MC is not OP enough. This leads to a big problem: Every character except MC is weak af. Way too weak, like even the best magicians of the kingdom (MC's grandparents) are ridiculously weak and amazed by the MC's actions.
And finally, the fourth episode. lets rate it 5 out of 50. The "big" fight here is awful, no empathy is created for the scene, only a perfectly empty scenario. The kind of story some story teacher may write, and then use as an example to "poor story" students. The "big bad guy" is just empty af, with no really charisma. It feels like in the scene, actors are playing their role with no motivation nor interest. But the problem here is that everything is drawings, there are no actors to blame ! Oh, and also physics references that are quite incorrect, and side characters getting dumber with each second passing...

Unfortunately I have read the manga forward, and the story does not gets better.

Yet I think this anime is possibly enjoyable, which is why I go for a 3 overall : I don't like it, but some people may enjoy it, especially people unfamiliar with Isekai genre. Let's hope in the next episode it will correct the scenes to compensate the poor and cliché story.

I am a big fan of Isekai stuff, and, well, this anime is for me a tiny bit of enjoyment with a lot of frustration. I had read much the manga before watching the anime. (Oh, and btw I dropped watching anime around ep 15)

Where do the enjoyment comes from ?

The story in itself is quite good as an isekai, especially the quite original stuff with slime. Drawings are really good, and most animations are as well. However, soundtracks are awesome, with a lot of variations, and generally used at the right time.

Where do the frustration comes from ?

First, MC is too overpowered, ... and other characters are existent and selfless. Usually I love overpowered MC, especially overpowered progression ones. So, what is the problem here ? There is no feeling of tension, the MC never overcomes something, it just instantly solves every problems appearing. It may had be fun, as in OnePunchMan for example, but it isn't fun, or maybe not funny enough for me to laugh.
Second, the rhythm of the story is... Well, monotonic. Actually, there is no real rhythm. And I suppose this is what makes a big difference with the manga. When you read the manga, you choose the speed of the events, by reading slower or faster. Here you can't, so everything is way too slow, and you feel no difference between a casual meal and an "epic" fight.

Should you watch it ?
This anime is not so bad, it is just filled with a lot of useless and unpleasant moment. I would advise to either :
- Watch while doing something else (coding, cuddling with your cat ...) so you don't feel the monotony.
- Read the manga while listening to the OST of the anime

Please note : if it is your first "isekai" anime, you will probably just appreciate it, so watch it normally :)
