Story: 8
Finally a good anime about gaming which is not "Transported to a gaming world. If you die in the game you die in real life" based because there are way to many of these. It is a pretty original story about a professional gamer which were forced to retire and now wants to make a comeback. This OVA features a tournament between rookies and pros, and there are a few cool fights.

Art: 6
The art is okey. Nothing outstanding, nothing really bad either. The art in season 1 was a bit better than the art in this one, but it doesn't really affect the OVAs ... too much.

Sound: 7
The OP is ok, the ED is pretty good and the OST is ok. Nice sound effects.

Character: 8
Likeable characters, except one very talkative character which I find pretty annoying. The MC is pretty bad ass and some might find it pretty funny how MC's boss is getting starstrucked all the time.

Enjoyment: 8
I really like this series, it is a pretty original anime which doesn't only focus on the game, but also the players.

Overall: 8
I think you'll definitely like this if you're into gaming or sports animes, because this is kind of a mix between those two. Even if you don't, I still recommend it because it is pretty original and you won't find something just like this out there.

For a person who did not accompany the novel, this ONA was absurdly incredible, without words, the new animation was very pleasing to me.


Story:
Well the story comes from the annual glory game event, the famous all star, which God Ye Qiu has already participated in, this time he comes as a spectator along with Guo, and Tang, well what to expect from such an event, it is as you imagine the future of eSports, as you want it to be, with a scenario like that of the League of Legends in increasing all hope that it is that way, well the story came with a ... plot very determined and directed to the game, be the thematic ones and the battles during the ONA

Art:
Well I particularly liked the art, although it lacked those lights that had before that gave a lot of excitement, despite polluting the content within the battles, it was a great evolution they put together what they had and added some things and improved in a great way !

As well as I quoted I do not follow the novel, but what I least expected and that it would be revealed at that moment that the same was the famous Ye Qiu, which guo admired and the best the same one to get to the stage, well I counted that it rose at the moment I thought there could be a fan battle versus a pro, then it was spectacular, it gave me a tremendous hype for the second season and the new team conquered glory again!

The story is based on the All-Stars event which, like any other all-stars event, is meant to showcase the players. An issue that anime-only viewers will experience is confusion as the OVA gives head-nods to all the titans in the scene gathered together for this spectacle.

(8) Story: The story progresses fast and effectively, highlighting themes such as passing the torch and personal struggle while introducing a myriad of characters onto the screen.

(7) Art: The characters aren't as stylized as in Season1, but the animation quality of battles and the arena are very much adequate and pleasing ... to watch.

(7) Sound: No complaints personally. The use of sound works well in emotional moments (though without a hint of subtlety).

(9) Enjoyment: I thought the package went together very well. The story was direct, to the point, and highlighted the different clubs and their personalities without going into very much exposition. Some moments will appear corny to some viewers, but hey, it's an anime about e-sports. I'll let it slide.

(8) Overall: A fun addendum to Season 1, this easily leaves me wanting more.

EDIT: Just finished watching the last ep, and it was quite the suprise. Much of my review still is the same. Others may disagree and they are certainly entitled to that ;)

Story - So far it just immerses us into a tourney between pros and rookies, not really much of a "season 2"; it is well deserved as an ONA

Art - Pretty good imho, I always liked how well they did all the skill effects - you'll see what I mean ->especially for the 2nd and 3rd eps

Sound - The sound effects during fights are hilarious sometimes. Like how the hell did that make that ... kind of noise? But it honestly just adds to the overall enjoyment. ->If you don't like chinese songs, then I guess that could be a let down, but then again-how'd you even get through the first season if that was the case.

Character - Gives us info and develops other side characters whom we haven't seen or have lesser info about. EDIT: This was pretty lacking. All the side characters were just meant as fodder that we've seen--aside from One Autumn Leaf's rival.

Enjoyment - I enjoyed watching it, but the question is whether or not you will.

This had to be one of the best OVA/ONAs I have ever seen for any anime

Before I start, I would like to add the fact that I was planning on writing a review for the main anime, but I never got to it, so some of my opinions of the first season will also be put in here if it is suitable. I assume that everyone here has watched the 1st season, because why would you be here otherwise.

even tho this ONA follows the story of the main anime, it introduces something that the main story doesn't have that much of, detailed one on ... one PVPs that doesn't only show the in game side, but also the player. In the last episode, the fight between Rou Tang and the pro player even gave me initial D flash backs when the player's real life stamina was mentioned. This gives the in game fights more of a realistic feel as the power levels and the abilities of characters are never clearly explained to the viewers(Which is a good thing). I'm looking forward to this story telling technique being used further into the series as the anime seems to be shifting its weight more towards the competitive side of the game.

In terms of the storyline in these 3 episodes, nothing really sticks out. However, the few progresses made are very crucial to the season 2 release and the main storyline as the esports team that has been hinted at is officially created in the last scene. Not only does this allow us to get an idea for that's to come, but it also fixes up a few things that were not fully concluded such as Xiu Ye's hidden identity towards Guo Chen and Rou Tang.

As someone who lived in China for the first 12 years of my life, I really didn't like any Chinese anime till a few weeks ago. In fact, I used to preferred Japanese anime OVER Chinese anime because I didn't have to listen to the awkward voice acting in Chinese anime. The king's avatar however, has perfect voice acting which made me laugh at times, and emotional at others, it's not forced and fits in with how people actually talk in Mandarin. This is what we need more of to come out of China. I'm very proud of this anime both as a casual anime viewer and someone who is Chinese.

Over all, this is an anime serious that I will keep on watching and hopefully enjoying.

For having spent a year on three episodes, some parts of the animation is rather disappointing, especially episode 1. I can see a lot of people being turned off from it after that episode. But the parts where you can tell that's where they put all their money into, i.e. Gao Yingjie vs Wang Jiexi, the animation and the style used there is amazing. Fortunately, the quality of the episodes gets better after that.

In terms of the plot, the All-Star Tournament was a turning point in the story where, finally, we get to see Ye Xiu and crew interact with the pro-league in a ... professional setting (and not just low-level dungeon crawl or brawl). I honestly wished they did at least 1 more episode so that the pacing of the fights are better, all the other fights get their fair share of the limelight, and we get to see the third day where the pros fight against each other (and also a little more on Ye Xiu's backstory). I think that's what's sorely missing in the first season because The King's Avatar is advertised as an animation about eSports but we don't see a lot of the pro scenes in the first season.

Overall though, I really enjoyed this OVA. The character design changes are pretty good once you get used to them (tbh, I kind of prefer it more? Like I use to get Qiao Yifan and Gao Yingjie mixed up and I could only tell them apart because of their hair color. Though giving One Autumn Leaf a plastic surgery was really not necessary. Sun Xiang's face and coloring really don't match One Autumn Leaf's palette). I think people would take more to the designs if the animation is better though. Though the story, especially the ending, is a little rushed and the pacing could be better, they did hit all the major points with only three episodes. The major pitfall is the sometimes crappy animation and the nonexistent bgm in key moments. Which is why, I'd give this a 7 but because I love the source material, I give this an 8.

Awesome anime about the world of the professional game industry. As a fan of this type of events. I loved the anime and this Special episodes.

There's no much bad things to say, just that maybe sometimes it's a bit lazy or boring and the art could be better. Even though, the fights effects are awesome and flashy.

We get to know a lot of characters and their goals, the oaths and the pressure of each one of them to be there and fight at the maximum level of play.

Epicness in battles and the thrill to get to know the mysterious main character, the one ... that stood unbeaten in the top. You want to know more about the story, and the past of this characters and how it would be developed the future.

Remember, games are not only for kids. <3

*Spoilers Ahead, (though seriously if you watched it already then its fine)*

The "Game" genre have been going popular these days. With the likes of SAO, Log, and Accel World, the genre received many praises and critics throughout the community. Then comes the country China where there animation is getting influenced by Japan and brought us The King's Avatar (Quanzhi Gaoshou). I, indeed enjoyed the first season with its excellent art, sound, story, character developments, game mechanism and especially its maturity. It is very rare that a Chinese animation made me impressed even though we know that its base/inspiration is already common (generic). With season 1's ... fight scenes and beautiful animation, I was expecting more from these franchise and get hyped that a sequel to it will be released on 2018 this year. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed for this 2018 version of the anime, although I still enjoyed it.

Story:
The story is confusing for the newcomers of this anime. Indeed, you have to appreciate the first season and then appreciate this. The story is based on the "All Star Tournament" event of the novel. Although it followed it, it really didnt follow any events that happened after the first season. Hence, it is like jumping from stage 10 - 20 of a game. Although this is a sequel to the first, the plot of the season 1 really didn't support this tournament arc or some sort. We knew that even in season 1, they skipped alot of things but i didnt expect them to skip alot and just straight forward give us a tournament arc sponsored again by Mcdonalds. But aside from these negative vibes, the tournament was quite fascinating. It is quite rare that the main character Ye Xui is not the one who is always playing. It is the others that showcase there own spotlight (especially Tang, Rou). We have seen countless of fights that are well played and animated like One Autumn Leaf and Desert Dust, which portrays what Desert Dust can really do. Although I said earlier that Ye Xiu really didnt made such appearance in the tournament (he was just an audience), one thing is for sure that fans (like me) really want him back into action on this 3-episode anime and yes. Satisfaction was there at the end.

Characters:
We were given a handful of characters. Although most of them are just talking as a spectator/audience, we were still hinted of the capabalities of the few that are important on the story that leads to the events after this season. There's Tang Rou, who displayed her skills on the stage even though everyone assumes her being a noob. This tournament gives way for her to be on an eSports team. There's the current owner of the One Autumn Leaf account, who is over-confident about his skills. I (or we) were pissed about him in the first season so I was really hoping for his life-points to get rekt by someone. I was expecting Ye Xiu will do it but his rival did it for him.
Then of course there's Ye Xiu, who, from hiding finally reveales some hints of coming back onto the eSports he retired on.

Art:
I was quite shocked about the art as it is not the same from season 1. I really can't say anything although the art looks good for Ye Xiu as his expressions can be easily tracked. Last season, for some reason, he always smiles and some audience are irritated by this type of character. On this art however, we can see his emotions quite frankly. Although I have to say that Lord Grim's avatar art in season 1 (on my opinion) is still better than these new art. Overall, it was fine and it didnt really affect my eyes that much.

Sound:
What is there to speak into the sound system?.. Season 1's OP depicts how epic this anime was going to be and season 2' OP did it quite the same. Ending theme songs are not always my taste although I can say the ED for season 2 is okay. Sound effects are massive on this one. Not really much of a difference to season 1.

Overall thoughts and enjoyment:
In conclusion, the story was straightforward and season 1 really didn't hint the tournament (or maybe im just blind and deaf) which is a drawback for this 2018 version. Even though this was a drawback, I still enjoyed the fights and Ye Xiu being a badass at the end.

I was planning to watch just 1 episode at a time, but I was glued to the screen and watched all three back to back.
Brilliant show, typically Chinese though. Good, better, best, ultimate, god.
These 3 episodes provides the perfect bridge between season 1 and season 2.

Appreciate it that the main character is not arrogant/annoying. They are really good at creating and maintaining tension. Sometimes with shounen series they become repetitive, so far this does not seem to be the case for King's Avatar. Hope they can keep up with the level and perhaps go even beyond.

Read in the interview earlier this year with China Literature ... that season 1 had a total number of views exceeding 1 billion! Pure insanity, that is only possible because of the sheer size of the Chinese market. However, episode 1 on youtube also has some 3.5m viewers, suggesting substantial foreign interest. Surprisingly, however, the popularity on MAL is rather mild.

Anyway, if you like games, shounen genre, nice but godlike main or competition (sports and the likes), then is a show I highly recommend.

Looking forward to season 2.

As a short ova follow on to the main show of The King's Avatar Aka Quanzhi Gaoshou Tencent has done a great job, The story follows on and leaves you wanting more.
My one major bug bear is the about of product placement that they are contracted to put into this clearly heavily sponsered show, this really breaks up the flow of the episodes and is completly unnecessary they could easily slide it into the story with a few lines of dialogue and just altered a few of the key visuals job done and much better show.

Other than that love the are style and the ... key segments that they did cant wait for the next season

Even tho I loved the first season and was looking towards this full of hopes and full of excitement, it ws rather disapointing.
I feel like the animation went dow a level, it's still good, but in my eyes it's not as good as the trailers for season one or the season 1.
The story is good but compared to the novel some really cool character moments and developements are omited from here and some minor details are given more space then needed.
Whats the most disapointing drop for me is the music. The OST from season one was really good, right on the top ... of anime soundtracks for me, the music was totally fitting and engulfing me into action.
It's in no means a bad Anime, it's still at a high level and i enjoyed it, but i enjoyed the first season more.
