Synopsis

Hakubo revolves around the daily life of Sachi Koyama, a high school violinist with promising talent. Although Sachi is content with her school life and retains friends within the music club, her favorite pastime is appreciating the scenery around her neighborhood in Iwaki, Fukushima while walking to her bus stop alone.

However, during one of Sachi's after-school walks, she has an unexpected meeting with Yuusuke Kijinami, a boy whom she often notices on her bus ride home. After offering to help Kijinami find a perfect view of the evening landscape—the subject of his next painting for his art club's exhibition—the two forge a bond over their mutual admiration of the beautiful scenery bathed in sunset. This chance encounter brings together these two souls who yearn to cherish the present, knowing full well how easily it can all slip away.

Background

Hakubo is the final installment in Yutaka Yamamoto's Tohoku Trilogy, a series of films produced to aid in the restoration efforts following the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. The charity project was intended to be crowd-funded, but the campaign did not raise the funds it was aiming for.

This was the biggest load of barnacles I have ever seen. The promotional video looked promising, with excellent visuals and what could have been a decent plot, and gave me high hopes that this short-ish film will be worth my time. After watching it, it’s confirmed that nothing about this movie was good except the gorgeous animation.

And when I say gorgeous animation, I mean the backgrounds and the scenery. The character designs were pretty mediocre and looked like they came straight out of 2010. Even worse than their designs, however, were the characters themselves. They possessed totally unbelievable character traits that no real human read more

It is a boring movie without a story and relatable characters and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Art - 6
It is probably the only good part of this movie and really liked all the backgrounds the scenery but the Character designs were bland and their movements felt sluggish like a bad CG anime

Story - 3
I don't there actually was a story or plot in this movie cause it felt bland throughout its 45 min runtime and felt like a really long journey with boring characters and tiering music

Characters - 2
All the characters were bland and didn't have any kind of charm or anything to read more

The only genre this film would fit in is 'school' and nothing else. Watch it if you enjoy staring at screensavers.

Hopefully that is enough to give you the gist of the movie but honestly I had nothing better to do and watched it knowing it would be mediocre at best. I think because the movie tried to be dramatic but failed in every aspect, it ended up being entertaining to me anyway, but thats because im braindead.
I think the main plot definitely had potential. The idea is that the main characters were involved in the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami back in 2011 and, while admittedly read more

No idea why I watched this, but felt like I shouldn't had even tho it's like 50mins long. I hoped it could achieve great narrative about Tohoku earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011, and how it affected the people around, but sadly there was nothing like that.

Story 2/10
There wasn't anything interesting with the story, it was a generic romance of a girl meets a cute boy. The movie portrays a highschool girl who plays violin and gets to meet a boy who draws art, the start meeting and end up liking each other.

Art & Animation 7/10
The background art was great, and most read more
