New Interest Stack
Interest StacksA selection of animes with the USA as their main setting. Some anime do a better job depicting this setting than others. Some opt for a accurate as possible depiction, others take an idealized view, while others make you wonder if the creators have ever been to or even seen America. As far as I'm concerned there's an anime about pretty much everything if you look hard enough: diving, underwear design, insurance investigation (yup!) and don't even get me started on cooking. So there, picked titles with main characters directly involved and at least some focus on whatever they're doing for a living or a hobby or both. Decided to make a stack for the OVAs and movies you used to be able to find on Blockbuster shelves or on late-night TV anime blocks right before infomercials or softcore porn. Behold, hyper-violence, bad animation, paranoid politics, incomprehensible writing, awful dubs, gratuitous nudity, and that special something that makes bad things great sometimes. Trying to compile a list of all anime and manga that has girls with guns in it I remember going to the video store, browsing the shelves, and picking out a movie based on the box art alone. I'd look at the front, I'd look at the back, and more often than not I'd put it back on the shelf. Occasionally there'd be something like Ghost in the Shell or Ninja Scroll, and I knew I just had to rent it, or more accurately get my parents to rent it. Do you like watching trashy 80/90s OVAs and movies that are violent, stupid, and nonsensical? Well this list is for you. Some of these are pretty famous in the community like Violence Jack and M.D. Geist, but I made sure to really dumpster dive for some obscure trash for all of you garbage connoisseurs out there. What is a manly anime? It may be hard to define them at first glance. Rather than a textbook definition, it's more of a specific "vibe". You can feel when you're watching one of them. LIGHT SPOILER! Reference, mentions, and depictions of/for sadomasochism or have mean love interest Most anime come in 12 or 24 episodes with stories that are interconnected to one another, but there are some shows that has an independent story or lossly connected stories these interest stack is meant to mention some the many shows with such episodes Self-explanatory. Animes listed here are animes that takes place in New York City (either fully or partially). As the title says, I created a stack called "Avant Garde and the Weirdest Box", and some weird Anime was not listed in it, so they will be listed here. Of course, there will also be Avant Garde anime that are not popular or not known by many people. Looking for some of the funniest trashy and bad anime? Are you constantly digging up bad anime just to end up being bored by how bad it is, rather than laugh at how ironically fun it is? You've come to the right place! Part two of the list of anime released between January 1963 and January 2000 that are worth your time. (For better or worse). Anime released on VHS by Manga Entertainment/Manga Video in the UK. If you have any additions or corrections let me know. After the release and success of Akira in the US and UK, Western companies like Central Park Media and Manga Entertainment began licensing as many films and OVAs as they could get their hands on to satiate a market hungry for strange, violent animation. Some of them were genuinely great and are still regarded as classics to this day, but the vast majority were schlock made to appeal to the lowest common denominator. This was essentially the anime equivalent to the American grindhouse/exploitation boom of the 70s and early 80s, where films were marketed on their ability to shock and provoke. |
