Charlotte: Tsuyoimono-tachi

Just to be clear this is not a sequel to Charlotte. It's set half-way through Charlotte before all the important stuff actually happens.

Story : Just another episode of finding and helping a person with strange abilities, in this case it's mind -reading (not a spoiler)

Art - same as always, quite nice and pleasing

Sound - didn't notice anything but the voice acting was great

Enjoyment - It was nice to see all the characters again and Yu x Nao moments. It was also damn funny a lot of the time and emotional too.

Overall: I recommend to watch if you just miss Charlotte in general and ... want to see more, but don't expect anything that has happened past the last few episodes.

(It's called a Special but I will call it an OVA)

I wouldn't normally review an OVA (or really leave a review at all to be honest) however I felt I need to for this one.

This OVA is similar to the first couple of episodes of the Charlotte series, in fact the best time to watch I feel it would be just after episode 4 or 5.

This OVA really reminded me of why I continued to watch Charlotte in the first place, it has a great, fun and enjoyable story and has the same great characters, art and sound of the main series.

If you were ... a fan of the first half of Charlotte give this OVA a go, you won't be disappointed.....except for the fact it doesn't tell you anything that happens after the series ends which most fans really would want to know since as I mentioned earlier it probably takes place around episode 4 or 5.

As someone that was never a fan of Charlotte i went into this ova with very little expectations.A special though would be a good chance to to resolve some of the thousand of unexplained things that the series second half had and give some better closure to the story.

Story:But this is not the direction this episode went.this episode follow the work of the student council in their quest to find ability users. Basically pretty much the same pattern of the first half of the series and as such ... it adds nothing to the overall story.Although not enterely a bad premise the problem lies with the execution.this episode cointains the same issues as the main seriesthe change of focus between comedy and drama is extremely jarring and Charlotte continues to use plot devices to victimaze characters we know nothing about or care just for the usual forced fells

Characters:nothing remarkable to see here these characters are mostly used as comic relief barely have a personality and the screentime they have is minimun(yusarin takajou ayumi).Our protagonista otasaka yuu serves mostly as a passive observer for the events and nao is the most noticeble among them for her playfull atitude.None of them have any development or are explored in any way

Sound:best aspect f the show.Both opening and enging really fits the show well.The opening gets a cherrfull feeling that combines greatly with the comedic first half and the more sober ending also fits with the second half that is more focused on the drama

Animation:the animation for this series is average despite the attention to detail in the backgrounds and the great usage of color due to the generic character designs and sloopy moviments
Enjoyment:for me there is barely any enjoyemnt in this episode.The attempts at drama and comedy were so poorly handled and spaced out that it was impossible to care for the drama and the comedy consisted exclusively the usage of the same jokes that made it impossible to care

Overrall
This special fails both at adding something to the main storylinine,characters and in being a self contained story.It still is recommendable for fans of the series that are looking for more and it mainstais the structure the first episodes of the main series had

Drama can be a powerful genre, but this anime manages to stumble at every turn, delivering a lacklustre experience that fails to leave any lasting impact. Strap yourselves in for a wild ride of exaggerated reactions, poorly written characters, and a nonsensical ending that will leave you scratching your head.

Apparently, the creators of Charlotte believe that drama is synonymous with over-the-top theatrics. Every emotional beat in this anime is cranked up to eleven, with characters flailing about like they're auditioning for a kabuki performance. I get it, drama is supposed to make us feel something, but the unrealistic and forced nature of these reactions only ... serves to pull us out of the story.

And speaking of characters, Charlotte is a prime example of how not to write them. Emotional depth? Forget about it. These characters are about as deep as a puddle after a light drizzle. It's impossible to care about their struggles when they are so poorly developed or simply unlikable. The anime attempts to create emotional moments, but they fall flat because we have no investment in these cardboard cutouts masquerading as characters.

The grand finale that was supposed to tie everything together and leave us with a sense of satisfaction. Well, spoiler alert, it failed miserably. The lack of meaningful progression or character development throughout the series culminates in a lacklustre ending that feels as satisfying as eating a dry rice cracker. There are no real consequences, no growth, and no impact. It's like hitting the reset button and pretending that everything that happened before was just a fever dream

The premise of people being able to read each other's minds is intriguing. It has the potential for psychological exploration and complex storytelling. Unfortunately, Charlotte squanders this potential with its subpar execution. The show drowns in its own clichés and fails to offer any fresh perspective on the concept.

As for the characters themselves, well, let's just say they're as two-dimensional as a piece of paper. Except for Nao Tomori, who inexplicably undergoes a sudden personality shift that feels forced and out of character. It's as if the writers realised they needed some semblance of character development and decided to throw it in randomly without any rhyme or reason. Character development can be a good thing, but only when it's executed properly, and in the case of Charlotte, it's just jarring and poorly timed.

The animation is decent, I'll give it that. But the character design? It's as generic as it gets. We're treated to yet another parade of moe-style characters that blend together in a sea of unoriginality. It's like the creators went to a factory that churns out generic anime characters and bought them in bulk. And don't even get me started on the soundtrack. With the exception of the opening and ending themes, the music is forgettable. Can we at least get something that stands out?

In summary, Charlotte: Strong People is a useless OVA that lacks significant plot development and meaningful drama. It relies on tired clichés and poorly executed emotional moments that fail to resonate with the audience. The characters are as shallow as a puddle, with the exception of a forced and poorly timed character development for Nao Tomori. The art and sound are generic and forgettable, doing little to elevate the overall experience. It's not worth your time.

Just a little add on chapter to Charlotte, set after episode 4 or 5 in the main series. good for some enjoyment after the series if you did so enjoy it. While it doesn't clean up loose ends of the anime, it still is good as a little extra episode.

Basically same as early episodes where the characters are finding the people that have the special abilities.

Should've been included in the regular anime though, it is better than all of the first 5 for finding ones with ailments.

I rate it a (7/10) overall, does have a nice little ending on the episode too.

I did not expect a sequel to the anime anyway, so i guess im glad i didnt get my hopes up.
I really liked this episode, it shows us so much more to Tomori and how desperate she is to help Iori (or any ability user). I feel the special gave more depth towards Tomori and some development of her character. I felt the interactions between Tomori and Otosaka was really cute and ironic since I already knew the ending. But it really made the couple so much cuter.

I really wish they will come out with more specials, maybe this time focusing on the other characters ... like Yusarin and Takajou too. The main characters are so lovable

If you thought Tomori's character was an annoying bitch in the original series, they turned her up a notch in this episode.

She spends the entire episode assaulting Otosaka, then proceeds to assault a kid, because that's the logical way of getting through kids suffering emotional issues.

Now, I don't know if this character trait of hers is supposed to be "funny" or "quirky" but unless you're a sociopath, a character like this is not interesting or funny. Basically replace her with any male character in any anime designed to yell and get angry like a fucking moron in every scene. All it does, is make you ... wanna punch these characters and tell them to STFU.

So basically, an episode that adds nothing to the lore or main series, but features the annoying Tomori character being annoying. She ruined original series for me, and managed to do wonders for this special episode.

I'm pretty sure this was going to be a regular episode but the director realized that it sucked hard enough to be made a single OVA, mostly because it tries to end with Otosaka finding the psycho Tomori "amazing", which is hilarious since these two characters even in original series go together like water and oil.

1/10 - Skip it.

This is the mindset I went through when I saw this OVA, and I'm sure some others felt this way too. After the seemingly rushed ending of the "Charlotte", many saw this OVA as an opportunity to make up and continue where things left off. What we get ... instead is an OVA which takes place in the middle of Charlotte and has no connection with the main story of "Charlotte" itself, just like the OVA's of "Angel Beats", the anime created by the same people who created "Charlotte". The OVA is still enjoyable, however, if you are able to get over this revelation, which is fairly easy to do.

Story is a 7! (Spoilers)
"Charlotte Special" takes place in the middle of "Charlotte". The team has just discovered a new ability wielder, with the power to cause others' thoughts to be projected aloud to others. The team of course tracks her down, and finds she is lonely and upset because of her power causing others to fight. Yuu and Nao then task themselves with cheering her up, while also trying to find out what triggered the young girl's power to activate.
I wont go into detail into what happens next (I'll leave that for you to find out).
"Charlotte Special" is mainly a comedy episode with a touch of drama and feels afterwards. This OVA had me LMAO quite frequently and even though it doesnt correspond with the main story of "Charlotte", it does at least satisfy the need to see Nao and Yuu again.

Aight look. The main thing I look for in an anime is the story, sound, and somewhat characterization. I honestly ignore the art unless it's horribly bad. How would i describe the art of "Charlotte Special"? Well, it's the same as "Charlotte", so if you had no problem with that, then I have no clue how you'd have a problem with the art here.

Sound is a 10!
Oh man how great it felt when I heard that theme again. It will bring back the memories of "Charlotte", and the ending will get you upset because you will have come the the realization that "Charlotte" is a gone again, and you will wish for more.

Character is a 6!
There were only 3 main characters: Yuu, Nao, and the new girl. Tokajo and Husa are in for only a short amount of time, and not really relavent except for some scenes in the beginning which were hilarious.
Yuu: Still the same loser who hates doing things out of his comfort zone (Love this guy!). Although... We find out he is one chicken when it comes too amusement park rides and attractions (ANOTHER thing we have in common :D).
Nao: Damn she is more violent than i remember... LOVE IT. But theres more to the happy girl we love than we know.
New girl: A middle schooler (I think), named Iori-chan, who is upset because of what her power does to people. When people fights, shes 's crying, but with Nao and Yuu cheering her up, she gets better. Typical sad young girl to feels comfortable with onii-chan and onee-chan.
She has an illness, which we find out at the VERY end and at a minimal.

Overall, "Charlotte Special", although not what we expected as a continuation of "Charlotte", is still VERY enjoyable through it's hilarious scenes. In the end, we should just be glad we got to see more of Nao and Yuu.

I was hoping this would be a sequel to charlotte but it wasn't. althought it wasn't a sequel, i still did like some parts, but most of all, it seemed a bit unbalanced. i can see some people really liking this.

this could be one where you could show your friends who never watched charlotte to see this and see how they like this and then they'll watch charlotte.

i was hoping for a new OP and ED but they seem to have used the same ones. i had so much hype for this but... i think i had too much hype.

There were some parts where ... i just didn't want to accept. the mind reading thing seems inconsistent. if it was mind reading then a lot of stuff would be heard, people are thinking about any rubbish 24/7.

well, the anime is kinda sad. i overall didn't really enjoy it. there were some really good parts but overall i'm kind of dissapointed (maybe because it was not sequel)

When Charlotte aired originally I found myself torn between two halves: the first, a slow character build set around episodic 'mission' type episodes where the student council would go out and save a poor teen from misusing their ability and the second, a rushed mess trying to fit two or three arcs into three or so episodes.

This special episode very much follows the pattern of the 'first half' in as much as Nao and Yuu are out helping someone who is having problems with their special ability. Though for some people it will be frustrating that we didn't get a follow up to the end ... of the show, I found that this earlier episode added some really important character development for Nao that, when watched in the context of the whole show, is really important.

As the main characters and (I suspect) fan favourites Nao and Yuu were the main focus of the episode, this time acting as the comedic/romantic double act that they had metaphorically been playing for the majority of the main series. The episode is typical of Maeda Jun as it superbly combines comedy with serious issues.

The art and sound remain at the high standard we saw in the series with the main opening and ending used for the episode. I felt we saw a different side of Nao through Ayane Sakura's performance which, again, can only be commended.

Although I greatly enjoyed the episode, it suffers from the same problem that plagues Maeda's work in general as he has once again tried to get across a very big message in a very small amount of episodes, in this case just one (I don't want a sequel, I just wanted 24 episodes to start with!). It's also worth saying that if you didn't enjoy the slow episodic nature of the early part of the main series you're unlikely to find this episode to your liking either.

Issues aside, I found this bonus episode a really enjoyable watch that can be viewed in the wider context of the main series as a beneficial character development as well as more fun comedy.

Well, I Missed Charlotte and been waiting for this Special Premier to be released. I say it really is nice, It's just another part of the mission and happened in the middle of the series where they're still helping around people.
If you missed Charlotte, especially Tomori, then watch this.

The story was pretty good. A mix of comedy with a little bit of drama but it's good.

For the Art, its the same. They still made the characters perfect.

Sound was good, I love the Opening and Ending songs.

Character, almost the same. The Tomori + Yuu still is great as ever. One of the best couples there is. ... To add their seiyuu's, they did a very good job.

Enjoyment, well I enjoy most of the anime except for the plot that is so twisted.

Well Overall I rate this 10.

Disclaimer : the conditions in which I watched this special are quite uncommon. For the record, I only watched few of the original series, therefore the characters are quite new to me. Even though it seems disrespectful for a series, that is my own way of testing the feel of a show beforehand. Secondly as it was in Spanish subtitles I didn't understand many of the story, or comedy gags ; but I shall try to develop at my best for you readers sake.

Story (7) :

Meanwhile I claimed an uneven comprehension of the story, it was kind of your usual slice of life show. Perhaps ... the slight traces of drama at two moments of the special were an indication to the future of the anime series.
As for the introduction, in the club room passage, it indicates that this whole special could be part of an usual routine for them. It was rather appreciable and quite fun, I recommend it.

Art (8) :

Well this is modern animation, as expected from an anime of last year only. The animation was fine and well-cut, some comedy mimicks here and there... The rating is higher for I just loved that opening, as well as the song that I already knew. Even if I'm useless at understanding the lyrics, the part of opening where their silhouettes become space-like especially, was beautiful.

Sound (7) :

I finished watching the OVA while checking other reviews, when somebody pointed out the quality of voices. So I listened closely for myself, and that is true I appreciate how their voices did not sound like rat voices (glaring back at you half of the seiyuu of Ao no Kanata no Four rhythm).
The opening was great, that is to be pointed out.

Character (7) :

This is my average grade for characters, because I don't know them well for the least. All I can certifiate is their artstyle was nice, and some shipping people would be happy. Or perhaps the glimpse to Charlotte's character could remind certain scenes for the viewer, but a more experimented viewer than me, then.

Enjoyment (6) :

Well I felt no fun since for the first part I had to check up every single sentence, but I gave up in the second half just to finish it quickly. That, and I was also a bit hungry. I guess seriousness of reviewing is dead at this very point.

Overall (7) :

First off, unless you are fine with Spanish, don't watch it in this language. And then, if you want to try the anime feel quickly you can try this OVA, no major spoil since someone else said the storyline was settled in before or after episode 6, but certainly before episode 7. Seems you would enjoy as well, though I don't recommend it to you if you hate school-life comedy anime.

The events in this OVA appear rather early in the series, when Nao and the gang are still finding ability users. They find a girl who can project the thoughts of everyone around her for everyone to hear. The ability seems to just happen on its own and not because she wants to. Because she projects what everyone really thinks, a lot of problems are caused by the ability and people start fighting when they hear the things people are really thinking. This causes her much strife and she isolates herself from everyone in order to prevent these problems from happening. Nao and Yuu find ... her and decide to spend the day in order to show her that even though they hear what they are really thinking, they can still have a good time and not fight.

Personally, I don't care too much for OVA's but I happened to really like this one. It was very entertaining to watch and shows that Nao is the most honest person in the show. The first half is pure comedy and then the second half gets rather serious and heartbreaking even, much like the series itself. It's definitely worth the watch. Nothing special really happens other than getting better insight on Nao and Yuu as they get a bit closer due to being forced to be completely honest with each other.

“Feed the kids,” they said, a while after Charlotte finished airing, the fans kept asking for more due to whatever reasons they gave, I guess a show will always have devoted fans no matter how bad or average it was (not making a point on Charlott here). Charlotte: Tsuyoimono-tachi, aired the 30th Mars 2016 is a special one-shot episode that exists just for that, to feed the hungry fans. But does it taste good?

- Story (6.0/10):
The special episode follows the student council as they are trying to solve a problem with a mind reader that can't seem to turn off her ability, and thus making ... everybody around her fight. Nao and Yuu set up to helping her of course while keeping a close distance from her, they start to read each other's minds as a means to get to know one another the best, but it doesn't go as smooth as one might expect.

- Art (8.0/10):
Just like the parent series, I can't seem to remember a flaw I encounter, a dragged on anatomy or right animation, it was a good Charlotte/10. The character design for the mind reader was great though, so detailed that she could have a show of her own as a protagonist.

- Sound (7.0/10):
I've never been a huge fan of the main cast, to begin with, especial as soon as I discovered that Nao has the same voice actress of Gasper (High School DxD), and you know, I'm not big on traps either.
It was cool for me to get to see the opening theme song again, but I guess that was it.

- Character (6.5/10):
As I've always said, this show lacks consistency when it comes to the characters as 95% of them are not memorable at all, and I've seen short series do better, for instance, FLCL, leaving no excuse for Charlotte to slack off. Nothing too special seemed to happen here aside from the protagonist being more of a punching bag than he was during the main show.

- Enjoyment (6/10):
Not my proudest special watch, to be honest, it was almost like being forced to stare at drying paint while not having slept for days, it was hard to keep up as nothing interesting in particular was hitting the spot, I could go for hours starring at the Whole Cake chateau collapsing (One Piece) and not get this bored, it was just another standalone episode that couldn't even stand on its own.

- Overall (6.7/10):
If you have something better to do, just skip over on this, absolutely nothing happens in favor of progressing the plot as this is not a sequel, and it's set somewhere between the third and sixth episode, right after Yusarin joined, but before *SPOILER AHEAD*; Ayumi passed away.

Well, well, well. It's your favorite anime reviewer,Fakecross. And today, I'm going to be reviewing Charlotte: Tsuyoimono-tachi. Buckle up, folks, because this one's gonna be a doozy.

Let's start with the story. It's pretty solid, not gonna lie. There are some twists and turns that kept me on my toes, and I appreciated the emotional depth that the writers brought to the table. Overall, I'd give it a 7 out of 10. Not too shabby.

I gotta say, it was a wild ride. There were moments that made me laugh, moments that made me cry, and moments that made me wanna punch ... a wall. It's not a perfect anime by any means, but it definitely kept me entertained from beginning to end. I'll give it a 7 out of 10.

I was like "omg this is so good" then i remember "this is a ova pretty much" thats why I give it a 7 sadly. Loved it tho. I would give it a 8 but the problem with that is that there is only 1. Maybe like 4 or 5 then it would be an 8 but thats it. Sense that is what the show had so thats why i gave it a 9 cause of how good and depressing it was like omg i was on the verge of crying dead serious. The show itself was not bad at all just i still think ... angel beats is better sense me like it more and it was super funny although not gonna lie this OVA was very funny as well :)
