Ansatsu Kyoushitsu 2nd Season

Returning from their summer vacation, the students of Class 3-E at the prestigious Kunugigaoka Middle School find themselves up against unbeatable odds. Faced with the possibility of world annihilation, the students must come up with increasingly elaborate and creative ways to kill their teacher, the cunning yet optimistic and helpful Koro-sensei.

However, eliminating Koro-sensei is not the only objective the students need to worry about. Gakuhou Asano, the academy's merciless and cruel principal, seeks to prevent Class 3-E's success by brainwashing his other hard-working pupils into ruthlessly competitive studying machines. Hostility begins to linger in the air as traitors and killers alike attempt to claim the bounty on Koro-sensei's head for themselves.

Nagisa Shiota, one of Class 3-E's most skilled assassins, finds himself in the middle of the conflict. While he works to maintain his academic standing and prevent the end of the world, domestic affairs jeopardize his place in Class 3-E. Together with his dedicated classmates, he must now face the threats head-on.

AC is one of the few anime/manga series that has attracted a large amount of love and support from the fan community despite only being active for a short period of time - 3 years. By the time the final episode was released, AC had sold 20 million pounds, received many nominations and was in the top of many rankings. So what are the highlights that help AC achieve such achievements? Here are some of the writer's thoughts.

One of the bright spots of Assassination Classroom is the author's creative and unique story idea.
The theme of school, education and teacher-student relationships is a familiar topic in ... the anime and manga world. Historically, there have been a number of MA series that are considered monuments on this topic. To create a new work that stands out and is attractive alongside its classic predecessors, the author needs to have an idea that is unique, creative and not duplicated. It's great that Matsui-Sensei, the author of AC, has fulfilled this request beyond expectations.
Our story revolves around class 3E and teacher Koro-Sensei. Class E, also known as End Class, is a special classroom built on the mountain, separate from the school. Class E focuses on exceptional students and students with scores at the bottom of the table. This is the class created by principal Asano to prove his teaching motto: students will become strong when they see with their own eyes the weak, those who are discriminated against and treated like crap. scum.
The author's unique source of ideas is expressed through the image of the character Koro Sensei and his method of teaching through assassination. Koro Sensei naturally becomes a unique character, not only among teachers but also among countless other anime characters. Such matches must be very difficult to appear in a school-themed anime. However, Matsu-Sensei has proven that it is possible, the author has drawn fierce, thrilling battles, no less than other blockbuster battles in shounen:
- It was a battle about educational methods between Koro Sensei and principal Asano.
- The battle between Koro Sensei and the students of class E with a mysterious masked figure, considered the final boss.
- Tense battle in the semester exam between class 3-E and all students and teachers of the school.

Each battle is meticulously invested in strategy, characters and surprising elements, in addition, they are all very creative and do not follow any familiar motifs. One of the writer's favorite details is the scene of defeating bosses such as literature, mathematics, and physics during semester exams. For us students, what test is like a boss, a monster, a duel that we need to win, right? Practicing and remembering the moves to buff their power to defeat them is a necessity in every exam.

AC's character arc is interesting, unique and has depth
*Koro-Sensei
The central character Koro Sensei from the first moments creates curiosity and interest in viewers. Why is he an octopus, where does he come from, why does he want to be a teacher, why is he such a pervert? The audience always looks forward to discovering new things from this octopus teacher.
Not only does he have a unique appearance, Koro is a character with depth. This is shown through Koro's past and relationship with his former student. Koro wished: "If only he could see that smile, if only he could look at me"
In addition, Koro Sensei also represents the method of educating students in opposition to Principal Asano. Koro's main principles in the teaching profession are: loving, caring and recognizing students as they are, always supporting and helping students develop their strengths.

For viewers to remember all 28 students is a difficult challenge for any mangaka. However, author Matsu has found a solution to this problem.
Besides the central students like Nagisa, Karma, Kayano, Nakamura or Ryouma, the author also creates unique personalities for each individual. The author often uses each chapter as an introduction to a character, helping readers get acquainted and immediately identify them when the whole class is working.
Successfully portraying personality and creating opportunities for each individual to shine at their own time, the author has fully conveyed Koro Sensei's educational message: everyone has their own strengths, every student All students need to be treated fairly.

One highlight that makes viewers watch it over and over again is the humor in the movies.
There may be tears in high school, there may be hurts, but the main thing should still be laughter, right? Who wouldn't laugh out loud at Koro Sensei's stupid actions and outrageous reactions, relaxing with the cute expressions of his students? AC's funny details are very smart, surprising and interesting. The work is truly a good medicine for those who are stressed or need to relax.

The ending is emotional and complete.
(Spoiler) The golden spots sparkling in the night amidst the countless tears of class 3E made the passing of this great teacher so beautiful. “Congratulations on your graduation” – Koro Sensei. The song that sounded in that moment was sad, lingering, and a powerful catalyst that brought tears to the audience.
After Koro Sensei's departure, there was a time skip. This time jump included in the story is a very reasonable choice. Through that time skip, we admire Koro Sensei's teaching achievements. The shy students of previous years have now grown up and are on the path to realizing their dreams, moving forward strongly, not forgetting to carry on their shoulders the feelings and lessons of their old teachers. .
*Discuss a bit about Koro Sensei's passing.
Surely there are many people who regret the death of this great teacher, and because they love Koro so much, they are secretly angry with Matsu-Sensei for not thinking and taking away his beloved teacher.
But if we look back calmly, we see that Matsu-Sensei foretold readers about Koro's death. Principal Asano looked at the overflowing joy of class 3E with a suspicious eye: "Next, bad things will happen, can you still continue to be a teacher?". Many times in the story, Koro-Sensei seemed to have foretold his fate. Nagisa expressed his feelings on the day the laser was shot down to kill Koro: "I feel like Koro Sensei predicted everything." job". Besides the portrait of an exemplary teacher, the small lessons throughout the story are also very close and meaningful. The author has succeeded in integrating these lessons into the movie's plot and tough battles.
One of the passages that the writer is extremely interested in is the segment where Karma gets a low score in the final exam of term 1. That lesson is very real, very real: we should never be arrogant, we must always hone ourselves and move forward.
Through practical assassination lessons, taking advantage of the brutal discrimination that class 3E suffered, Koro Sensei taught his students how to use their own blades effectively, teaching them independence and problem solving, helping children unite and coordinate with friends.
Nagisa concluded his teacher's lesson by saying: Konro Sensei never said that the E-class system was wrong or that we would try to make it change, because the world is full of absurdities. course. If you have time to hate and give up, then have fun fighting that nonsense instead. He taught us countless ways to do that.

Anime images and sounds
Anime AC is directed by Lerche Studio, broadcast as a TV Series on Fuji TV. The main color tones of AC are always bright color games, the scenes are always filled with color and light (Sometimes a little too bright). These tones highlight the cheerful quality that Manga wants. convey.
The Opening and Ending scenes are interesting and fresh, the OP and ED are very good. Songs and sound effects are appropriate. The graduation song creates a strong effect on viewers.
The voice acting is appropriate, not shrill.

*One weakness in AC: the last eps feel rushed, especially the scene introducing the mercenary squad and the character defeating the lion with his bare hands in the manga. It was thought that such a heavy character would predict thrilling battles that took a lot of sweat and thinking, but they were easily defeated in a single chapter. This confuses viewers. The anime has partly overcome this disappointment by removing that colorful introduction. However, I still feel rushed...

Mixed Feelings

I was about to add this anime to my favourites but after this season I changed my mind. The writers way of thinking is understandable, but it made me sad and now I think that this season has an unnecessarily high score.

There was a lot of fillers, and I find the story in this season mediocre at best. Besides some hype moments, it was boring. I enjoyed the first season much more than this, it showed a much more simpler, logical and clear image for a classroom setup and I admired the ideas and life advices behind it.

Yes it's not the common opinion ... as you can see, but since I go this far, I will crop some of my initial score for this season as well.

Everything will come to an end someday. Like humans, like the world. It is the grown up way of thinking. But there should be a line between what is real and what is not no matter what the context or the intention behind.

The premise of the series has to do with a class of losers being forced to kill their tentacle hentai teacher within a year. If they succeed, they will be rich. If they fail, the whole world will be destroyed. It’s silly, it makes no sense, and it’s just an excuse for fantasy empowerment. “Hey low-esteem student watching Assclass. Are you constantly being victimized by your society? Is everybody treating you like you are the scum of the earth, who will never succeed in anything in his life? Well, here’s a show to escape the harsh reality. You get to be an assassin who gets ... back on his bullies, kills his own teachers, gets lots of money for it, saves the world, and has lots of fun doing repetitive school activities! Thug life!”

And yes, I know it’s a comedy and it doesn’t need to make sense or be pragmatic, but it tries so much to be dramatic with high stakes that you simply can’t see it as a silly past-timer. Everybody has a tragic past but they are constantly doing silly things such as cross-dressing or spying on girls. One moment it’s supposed to be telling you important life lessons, and the immediate next it’s presenting assassination as a cool profession teenagers can go after. Remember kids, be good to your parents, wash your teeth every night, and kill people for a living because this yellow octopus trained you.

I can excuse the nonsense plot or the weak theme exploration, but not its lack of variety. I am not talking about different quirks for each character, it does that, I am referring to motivations. There is only one thing everybody wants to do: Kill the teacher. And there is only one thing the teacher is doing with everyone: Makes them work hard for a better future. It gets so formulaic and repetitive that you feel like you watching the exact same episode again and again.

I mean, yeah, the details change all the time, such as who is trying to kill the teacher, with what method, or in which location, but the end result is the same no matter what. There is always a battle of some sorts, Koro-sensei wins, and he lashes out a message about training hard to be better next time. I can give Assclass the credit of having a focused theme instead of being all over the place. And I like how there is variety in methods and locations. I also like how sometimes the stakes are as low as studying to score high in exams and sometimes they are high where lots of lives are at stake.

The problem is, the resolution is the same, no matter how grave the situation is. Despite the constant tactics and planning everybody seems to be using, the result is whatever the author wants it to be, since superpowers are abused and the laws of physics mean nothing. Koro-sensei has very broken powers, and thus has epic levels of plot armor. Yeah, that changes towards the end but it’s only because the show needs to end and not because someone overpowered him. As for the students using superpowers, it becomes meaningless when there are stuff such as mind control and instant healing. Free will and death lose their meaning, there is never actual tension because no matter what happens it can be easily undone. Thus the characterization is laughably meaningless.

I didn’t feel that in other anime about a teacher, such as Great Teacher Onizuka and Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei. Over there, everybody was doing something outside of a main objective. The students and assassins in Assclass on the other hand are moving like a mob and thus it becomes very hard to see them as individuals. You see them as plot devices rather than people trying to do things differently and thus developing into unique personalities. My point is, having the same goal for everybody is damaging for characterization. I understand that if they fail, the world will be destroyed, but it’s still damaging.

In fact, it goes against the core theme. If the show was promoting teamwork above everything else, I would understand the persistence of a common goal. But the formula of most episodes doesn’t play out as if it’s about working as a team. It’s mostly about a single student or assassin going after the teacher, and along the way showing something tragic in his past that made him the way he is today. What’s the point of individual backdrop stories when the end goal is the same for everyone? They are all moving towards the exact same destination no matter what they do.

What’s the point of the theme being about success when the objective is to kill the teacher? You know everybody will be constantly failing before the last episode. For a premise that is built around making the characters succeed in life, 99% of the duration is about them constantly failing. Also, it is a terrible objective. Nobody wants the planet to blow up, and nobody wants the teacher to die. The ending is either going to be a cop-out or it’s going to not feel like a success.

Beyond all that, it comes down to Assclass having dozens of unnecessary characters. The theme of the series is very specific and simple to need more than a handful for exploring it. In fact, it doesn’t need more than 2, Nagisa and the teacher. All the others are slight alterations of the exact same archetype, and the plot is basically the same in every episode: Work hard for a better future. The problem is, there is not much screen time allocated for each one of them before the focus switches to someone else, thus nobody manages to be memorable, outside the ridiculous design of the yellow octopus. And that is what leaves Assclass as nothing more that yet another forgettable school comedy.
