Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace

By borrowing ideas from the famous Zhuangzi’s recountal of a butterfly dream, employing the leitmotif of butterfly as a powerful symbol of transformation, and setting up a mysterious and palpably grisly atmosphere, Pupa and Ranpo Kitan, both in their own ways, seek to explore the uncertainty and frailty of human existence, as well as provide commentary on the prevalence of decadence in the desensitized modern society. With true horror becoming an increasingly rare phenomenon in the anime industry, the viewer may find the two titles to be refreshingly deviant in their disloyalty to the anime norms.  

Both are grim, moody, mature anime that involve butterfly symbolism and a fair amount of mystery and gore. 

You like butterflies right? I like butterflies, butterflies are deep, thankfully both Pupa and Game of laplace capitalise on this excellent symbolism to produce thought provoking works of animation. Both take a cute little sister protagonist and have an older teen tag along to be "that guy". And of course, to ensure that both will be remembered as serious dramas both pack copious amounts of gore that you should take seriously, definitely 

Similarities are as follows: -cute protagonist(s) -violence -death -symbolic butterflies -blood, lots of it. so much blood. -very mature 

At an initial glance both narratives seem to be another nauseating permutation of gore fantasy. However, one needs to look beyond the veneer and find the mature multifacted symbolism that explores our primordial instincts that is juxtaposed to the stagnation of consciousness from society. Both are apropos reflections of society. Both can be considered artforms and it's for those that can handle the subject matter. There is nothing otaku about each of the anime, so be prepared. Clearly a tour de force from both their respective authors. 

Very intelligent pieces of work about nihilism and involve the concept of death and rebirth. An engaging cast of characters and an interesting storyline, as well as amazing artwork and gorgeous animation quality make these must watches for anyone looking for a deep, mature, complex psychological horror, potentially rivaling masterpieces like the Shining and the Silent Hill 2 video game. 

Mature, thought provoking tales about justice in a failing society. Both involve deep butterfly symbolism and copious amounts of gore. 

Both share several main themes such as butteflies and maturity. BUT Pupa is sh*t. 

both are mystery and also have murder cases. when watching the first episode of sakurako-san, ranpo kitan came to mind because of the whole bones and butterfly thing. akechi, yoshio, and sakurako are very mysterious and intelligent characters who solve cases quick.. shoutarou and souji are also pretty similar.  

Both shows have heavy influences of butterflies representing death. The stories are quite similar too - a detective duo solving murders with the main character highly intelligent and able to solve anything by details. Basically Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru is Ranpo Kitan but traded a girl as the lead instead of a boy. 

For some reason, this show reminds me of RANPO KITAN: Game of LaPlace. Personally I thought Ranpo Kitan was only good for the first 2 episodes, so this recommendation isn't comparing that quality to this quality, but rather the seemingly similar elements between the two series: -Main Characters- akechi is a specialized detective, just like sakuarako is a forensics specialist, and they both have some young teenage boy follow them around in cases. Who both are someone drawn to the darkness of their superiors and their intelligence. -Storyline Structure- the delivery of evidence and plot devices are similar, its not like there is a puzzle thats scrambled in front of you, that you have to solve, but rather they are giving you piece by piece of a puzzle that you don't necessary know what the full puzzle is, therefore you just have to accept their endings even if you don't like it. -Both series tend to have high production value and very colorful palette, however, the stories of both have little to do with the aesthetic value (meaning the value doesn't really add to the story line, its more eye candy and just appealing) Its more artistic expression that an element that aids in plot development -too many references or thoughts that separate the main character from reality and into their subconcious, they always do that with flashbacks with some sort of fluttering junk around them, whether is sakura petals, and what not, this is way too common of a theme to list in anime, but in these two "mystery"/Horror anime, this is very symbolic to their similarities.  read more 

Detective stuffs? check Murders? check Protagonist questioned for the first case/murder? check Harem/reverse harem idk what to call it when there's a guy? Added. Hot love interests? added culprit questioning stuffs? check Ranpo Kitan...even the title sounds like it would fit in with Dangan Ronpa. So far, only 3 episodes in the airing, I've found Ranpo Kitan to be extremely close to Dangan Ronpa. Just tweak some stuff and take out the fact that everyone's dying, and you've got a nice detective style anime that you can't avoid when you see it on the recent release section of the anime website.

Off-kilter, wacky, highly stylized murder mystery shows 

They both have a business to find psychos. Both main characters are new to their jobs. They both have partners that act the same. 

Taking the dystopian future apart, they are very similar in the topics they cover. From questioning what is justice and freedom to challenging the government's system to process criminals; Makishima Shougo and the main antagonist are different in ways of acting, but similar in thinking. After Psycho-Pass, I was looking for something similar, and this one came across. You will understand once you give it a try, and don't be fooled by the 'comedy' in Ranpo Kitan, it is very deep indeed. 

Both involve school students reveal mysteries those happen around them. But Hyouka's atmosphere is colourful and heartwarming instead in Ranpo Kitan which set in dark atmosphere  

Ranpo Kitan is similar to Hyouka because it is a Mystery anime and it can give you doubts or chills. It's an awesome anime. So Watch it! :) 

-both have that character thats calm, cute, mysterious yet smart -both have epic mysteries and cases -both have characters that are usually bored unless theres a case to look over -ranpo kintan is just like gosick exept it is set in the modern age 

Main character is an androgynous boy often confused with a girl. High school/highschoolers kind of setting. Friendship. Teacher and murder go hand in hand. 

The protagonists in both the anime have psychological issues. The detective in this anime works in the same way as L. Both have detectives trying to solve mysteries and confronting the suspect. 

Both are focusing in detective's stories, mystery and murder. 

Both contain mystery elements as well as the topic of death. While Ghost Hunt targets the supernatural, Ranpo is more about murder. Both anime have a "cool" character (Kazuya and Akechi). They're not exactly alike but share similar personality traits and positions in accordance to the mc. Both main characters have secretary/assistant positions. 

Modern day liberal adaptations of famous Japanese mystery writer Edogawa Ranpo's work. Both equally unwatchable teen edge-fests, for me at least. 

These animes are really amazing ! You are searching for a great plot with lot of mystery like Subete ga F ni naru ? Then I recommend you Ranpo Kitan !! This is also an anime with lot of mystery, I really really enjoyed both of them, but I can't decide wich one of them is better ....
