I debated writing a review for Inuyasha since I believe for the most part the majority of people already know what they think of it but after forcing myself to re-watch the series I felt compelled to write this.

Story:
The story is designed to never end and gives you roughly 4 filler episodes in-between anything that actually progresses the story. Is it a spoiler to tell you that at the end of 167 episodes they still have to complete the jewel and defeat the villain? Well I wish someone would have spoiled it for me. However despite ... saying that the anime clearly isn't trying in any way to have an interesting or meaningful story so some of you maybe able to over look that. This is a anime that is trying to relie on fights and characters to be entertaining.

Art:
Honest opinion? I've seen better and I won't be watching anything worst I hope. Mediocrity's definition really. Normally art is one of the last things I base a anime on. Sure it's important but to me so long as everything looks okay I don't care. However in the case of Inuyasha the fighting animations were really disappointing. If you don't wanna have a story that is fine, but in this case with nothing else going for it I feel like going beyond normal really would have made a huge difference in term of enjoyability.

Sound:
Meh.

Characters:
They are all so shallow. One personality trait was handed to each of them and trust me they only get one. If you don't think mary-sue after meeting kagome read a fan-fiction with an oc. Actually never mind, it would probably be better.

Enjoyment:
Inuyasha may have been more enjoyable if it hadn't of been so long. Also since I didn't find it funny (I don't like slapstick humor) that to could contribute to it's lack of enjoyability.

Overall:
It get's a 5. Inuyasha easily could have gotten a seven if it had done one of two things, either developed nicer fights or developed it's characters at all. It's a long anime with nothing going for it. If you like pointless filler episodes there are animes that cater to that much better, If you like action then there are animes that also cater to that much better.

At the end of the day it's hard to find something outstanding or great about Inuyasha. It is an anime I can not recommend to anyone.

Kagome Higurashi falls in to a well and meets Inu-Yash. Then the endless, and I do mean endless story begins.

I've seen all the episodes. In the beginning it started great, there was a great story and a good love story between Kagome and Inu-Yasha. Also the other characters were good. Especially Kikyo and Sesshomaru. They just added a new demenshion to the show.

Now it was really good for a while, but it just keeps going on forever. They re-tell the same basic stories over and over again. The biggest problem I had it with this show is the love story between Inu-Yasha and Kagome. Do ... they love each other on don't they. Will they tell each other how the feel or won't they. It just keeps on going for 167 episodes. I stopped watching other shows for the same reason. Also at the end they haven't resolved anything. I am extremely disappointed in this show.

At the beginning I would have given this show a 9 or 10.

A short review for the reader without much time:
Story (4/10): Repetitive, it's always about killing some demon, and the demon always gets killed in the same way. Unsatisfying ending.
Art (6/10): The art is probably the only good part of this anime. It is smooth and fairly detailed.
Sound (4/10): Really not much to say.
Character (5/10): I find the characters annoying because they don't change at all throuhgout the series, and are always up to the same things. The only characters there are are the repetitive main characters or the useless villagers. The only reason this got a 5 was because the character history was pretty good.
Enjoyment ... (4/10): Enjoyable at first, but then the repetitiveness gets to you.
Overall (5/10)

Inuyasha had so much going for it. It had a fantastic setting, memorable characters, and started off with a great plot that made us eager to see how it ended. Unfortunately, all hopes of Inuyasha become a truly great anime have been dashed, as the series continued with so much unnecessary filler that led to an incomplete ending, which let down many fans.

Story: 6
I'm being generous here, as it could've easily been much lower. The story has a very promising start and there are twists and turns that are quite unexpected. That story becomes the overarching plot that drives the rest of the series. But ... then comes filler after filler after filler, with an ending that just leaves everything up in the air. It's hard for me to grade this any higher without a real conclusion.

Art: 7
Typical Rumiko Takahashi art here. Some of the fighting scenes are splendid, but it does start to look repetitive after a while.

Sound: 8
The background sounds of feudal Japan do a good job at highlighting the setting of Inuyasha. The combat feels heavy and fierce, and the voice acting is quite good, especially in the English dub.

Character: 7
The characters are quite distinct from one another, and seeing their interactions is enjoyable. The main antagonist is truly one of the most sinister villains I've ever seen in fiction. It's too bad we couldn't see how a final conflict could turn out.

Enjoyment: 4
I really had fun for the first 30 or so episodes of the series. Then it got longer. And longer. And longer. Soon I found myself skipping to the very last episode just to see the ending. AND THERE WAS NO TRUE ENDING! You can imagine my rage.

Overall: 5
Are you tired of me complaining about the filler and inconclusiveness yet? I'll just leave it at that. An average-ish anime that could've been so much more. Come on Sunrise, you're better than this.

This is one of the worse anime adaptations of Rumiko Takahashi's works. Basically the characters were recycled from her earlier Ranma 1/2 series. This is what happens when manga artists run out of ideas. Either that or they think if they recycle the same formula it will find the same monetary but not necessarily artistic success.

Basically Inuyasha is a recycled Ranma. Kagome is a recycled Akane. Koga is a recyced Ryoga. Myoga is a recycled Happosai. Sango is a recycled Ukyo, but rather than chasing after Ranma, she's now paired with Miroku. Miroku is a recycled Genma. ... And Sesshomaru is a recycled Kuno, but this time he's Inuyasha's brother rather than upper classman and competitor. And the list goes on.

What makes it terrible in comparison to Ranma 1/2 is that this is sort of like Super Mario The Lost Levels where Ranma was the original Super Mario Bros. Not only is SM TLL basically a SMB original rehashed with different but not necessarily new levels, it's also more frustrating to play than the original. So rather than being a lighthearted comedy/sitcom type show mostly to entertain, Inuyasha has turned Ranma into a boring demon killing fest with less humor and more angtsy-I-want-to-beat-the-crap-out-of-my-one-and-only-nemesis-Naruku which takes away from the show's entertainment and escapism values.

The only good thing about Inuyasha over Ranma is that the op/ending/theme songs are many and all are very good. Ranma also has good songs but they are not of "super-pop" calibre.

You know what I say when I think of Inuyasha? So much potential.

Inuyasha revolves around the adventures of Kagome Higurashi, Inuyasha, Miroku, Songo, Kirara, and Shippo as they travel Feudal Japan in search of the Sacred Shikon Jewel Shards. In their adventure they run into several types of demons, but one remains at large until the end of the series: NAraku. Oh, Naraku; that bastard has such power and that's not even from the jewel fragments he gathered throughout the series.

Our group of adventures go through japan finding themselves, bonding with each other, running into trouble whether it be forced, accidental, or for complete comic ... relief. I mean come on, this series definitely has the cliche aspects of shounen. You got tons of action, suspense, romance, comedy, and all that good stuff. Most of the comedy, I will admit, comes from the lecherous monk, Miroku; but you also get a good deal with the conflicting personalities of all characters — both major and minor.

The series ran for a long time, which is surprising since quite a few episodes were filler. The anime and manga both have a decent story and to my knowledge. The art of the series is good in my opinion. It had some moments where I thought the character design was a bit weird, but for the most part it was good. I think the character development could have gone a little better. This is where the potential I spoke of in the beginning comes into play. It had the potential to be as good of a shounen series as Yu-Yu Hakusho and Dragon Ball Z, but it fell flat near the end. Though, in the anime, I really liked the soundtrack and sound effects. That's probably the best thing about the show.

So, overall, I would say this is a good series if you want one to jump into that sticks to shounen format. Though, if you're afraid of the length, then skip it. My overall rating is six out of ten.

Story: Throughout the beginning of Inuyasha the plot was great with its constant fast pace and creativity but as it progressed it fell into a plain cycle. after reaching around episodes near the 70's the filler episodes take over. Naraku escapes repeatedly while the group loses just about every shard they collect. not until the end are the shards finally taken care of. Dont get me wrong though, the story really is enjoyable.

Art: the art was decent but didn't seem to have much flair to it. the forests scenes and medows where well done and had plenty of color along with the well done desolate ... landscapes and mountains. aside from that there was little deviation to mix it up. with 150+ episodes the same scenery, no matter how good, eventually becomes dull.

Sound: the sound was OK but not great. just as the episodes became duller, so did the music. with every scene, you could begin to predict that same repetitve music that played over and over. towards the last 60 episodes theres was little to no unique pieces of music added.

Character: the character development was good in the thought put into them but once again, the flaw that always hit was the lack of development. sango and mirokus romance never seemed to progress and inuyasha and kagome never seemed to get any closer. also despite the large group of protagonists, no significant characters ever died throughout the anime either, not counting the antagonists. kikyo was already dead with to start. to finish this part, that "sit boy" joke that was funny just became old as it went on, if i was inuyasha i wouldn't have put up with such a childish leash as kagome used it for.

Overall: 6/10 - after the original charm of a fresh and well designed anime started to wear off into a repetive and dull series where it became more of a chore to complete the series than actually to enjoy it. the beginning of the series i would give a 9/10 but the innability to further develop such as the amount of piontless fillers, lack of character development, and lack of new music really killed the story.

Gateway Drug, noun- A habit-forming substance whose use may lead to the abuse of drugs that are more addictive or more dangerous. In theory,a substance such as marijuana, which is easily available, less expensive, and more socially acceptable than harder drugs such as cocaine. Inuyasha is a gateway anime. The series is easily available, it's been shown endlessly on Cartoon Network, merchandise can be found at your local mall, games and videos at any rental chain, and both manga and anime at your local library. To fill in the gaps of missed episodes, one turns to the manga. Catch up on part of ... the story, and you pick up another series to fill the time, then another, and soon you're a member of this site.

The same can be said of other series, Bleach, for instance, but Inuyasha is different. The plot of the series is, frankly, only so so. Good guys and bad guys vie for control of magic item. Could be the second season of Fullmetal Alchemist, could be Lord of the Rings. More annoyingly, as the series ended when it caught up to the manga-only half done at the time-there's no conclusion. However, this is also what makes it so easy to be slowly reeled in. It doesn't matter very much if you don't see the episodes in order, or miss handfuls at a time. The characters don't really change and are always easily identifiable, short flashbacks fill in any really pertinent information, and while an arc might last a few episodes, things are returned to the status quo before beginning again.

Haphazardly is perhaps the best way to watch. When one sits down and views entire seasons in a row, the result is less satisfying. The shear repetitiveness: search for shards/Naraku, huge fight, eveyone nearly dies, they all get away, rinse, repeat...it gets to be mind-numbing. And that leads to thoughts like "How many times can you survive being stabbed through the chest, even if you are half-demon?" or "Just how much property damage has the mutt caused in this battle?", a level of scrutiny best not applied to most popular works of fiction.

As with all culturally pervasive things, there will be those who cannot stand the series, and those who cannot bear to hear a word against it. Reality usually lies somewhere in the middle. But thanks to Inuyasha, many of us have moved on to explore the wider world of anime, manga and j-pop, and for that, the series deserves some credit.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

A few years before the Big Three became a thing, Inu Yasha was the show everybody was raving about. Even I was in love with it, during the initial episodes. The sheer amount of things that were happening at the same time, along with fast pace and lovable characters, made it an instant hook for everybody who loves action adventures. We were all hyped for what was going to happen next, since everybody could find something to like in it. It was a series for all ages and demographics, with character emersion, a multi-layered story, mystery, epic battles, romance, ... slapstick comedy, all wrapped up in a setting which was blending feudal and modern Japan in all its mythological glory. It was a phenomenon, a thing we all talked about and waited with anticipation, discussed and speculated.

But over the years, this image changed completely, and by now it became the reason I consider perpetual ongoing shonen to suck, romance anime not being about romance, and having high expectations for anything can only lead to disappointment.

ART

Visually, the show remains consistently very good throughout its duration, something very rare if you have watched enough long series. The constant switch from the daily life of modern times to the epic quest during the feudal era was very catchy, and there is variety in moods, as some episodes are comical, others are serious, and some are borderline occult horror. The character designs retain their level of detail, and overall fidelity improves in later seasons.

Small issues include how obvious it is to tell who is important by the way he is drawn. If a new villain looks lame, you know he will die right away because not much thought was put behind his conception. Also, although there are tons of visual effects that make it seem very epic, it can’t be denied how much more interesting the battles were at first, since there were far fewer energy attacks, and far more battle choreography. You know, stuff where the characters are moving and use martial arts, instead of throwing fireballs, or just dodging the other guy’s fireballs.

A simple Youkai-of-the-week needed at least one episode and lots of planning in order to be defeated. Yet, this wonderful feature went away in just 8 episodes, when Inu Yasha got himself a super sword that could kill any normal monster with a swing. A few dozen episodes later, he could kill a thousand monsters, without planning anything. After a hundred episodes, he was the second strongest creature in the world, with the first being the archvillain, and only because he was also constantly leveling-up.

STORY & CAST

To make a long story short, the first dozen or so episodes are amongst the best an action anime of its kind can possibly offer. They had a gazillion ideas, from time travel, to demon slaying, to a quest for magic relics, to revenge, to comedy, to romance, to drama, to mystery, to whatever you can think and love seeing in anime.

Beyond those episodes, everything starts to slow down, before going on an endless loop of chasing after the same villain again and again and again. It’s like Rumiko Takahashi forgot what show she was making, and went on producing more Ranma ½. And even then, she stopped caring because instead of wrapping everything after a couple of seasons, she kept making more and more arcs, where nothing actually changes. And by that I don’t mean the usual stuff all shonen have, like, how everyone wears only one set of self-repairing clothes and yells the names of his attacks, or how severe injuries are scrubbed off easily, as if everybody has fast regeneration. I mean, actual change.

Despite secondary characters being constantly introduced, and everybody constantly getting more power ups, nothing matters in the longrun, since the former do not add more character dynamics, and the latter become meaningless after a few episodes. Character development comes to a halt and gets replaced with shallow power creep. The different personal goals characters had at first, get replaced by having them all going after Naraku, which took away their individuality. There are many cases where you think something is finally going to change, only to regress back to status quo by the next episode. All you are left with, is watching fights with no tension, since you know Inu Yasha is the strongest, and the only reason each battle lasts more than 5 seconds is because nobody is using super-kill-everything special attacks right away. Let’s go over the major ones, and see how they evolved.

- Inu Yasha is the main character, but not the leader, since he is a pet at the hands of a Japanese high school girl, which of course constantly mistreats him, because Rumiko loves to have women torturing men. He begins as a tragic hero who hates his human side, and ends up as a delinquent, running after bad guys and the chick he likes.

- Kagome is said chick, which expresses her feelings by having the otherwise bad-ass half-demon that can kill a thousand monsters with a swing, being her lap dog. She starts off as a scared girl trying to return home, but as soon as that is over, she becomes more worried about getting to college than saving the time-continuum by a merciless demi-god.

- Miroku is a perverted monk who doesn’t miss the chance to feel some girl’s ass and be slapped really hard in return, since Rumiko loves to have women torturing men. It was funny the first 30 times but then it just became annoying, as he clearly loves someone, yet keeps cheating on her. He is cursed with a wind tunnel, which conveniently does more good than harm, since it can wipe out entire armies of monsters. It is also capable of defeating Naraku, who happens to be the one who gave him the curse, but magically couldn’t take it away after realizing how stupid that was.

- Sango is the girl Miroku loves, and is looking for a way to save her brother. But since this is not important up until the last episodes, she spends her time slapping Miroku and nagging like an old maid.

- Shippo is the cute mascot all such stories need. He had a reason for being with them in the first episodes, since he was trying to avenge the death of his father. But once that was achieved, he quickly turned into a comic relief character and moe-attraction for the fan-girls.

- So did Kirara, the bestial demon cat that was supposed to play a major part in defeating Naraku but ended up being just flying means of transportation for the gang and another cute kitten for the neko-lovers. And by the way, there is no fun in adventures, if the characters are no longer passing through interesting areas, and are instead flying over them.

- And let’s not forget of Sesshomaru, the coolest character and main antagonist, who starts off as trying to be the strongest youkai, and ends up becoming a babysitter and bishonen attraction for the fujoshis.

As you see, all the characters were cool and interesting at first, but the lack of a plot and the repetitive jokes, turned them into obnoxious idiots.

SEQUEL

The show was eventually discontinued, and left everybody disappointed for not getting any closure. Most followed the manga thereafter, and even then they were getting more of the same shit for several years, until the damn thing finally ended. Nobody cared about it anymore, and yet a couple years after the manga was over, the rest of it was animated regardless. There was some rejoicing by the old fans but it quickly died out as soon as the sequel series began, for the following reasons.

1) We knew how the story will play out. During the first series, we had no idea what comes next as the manga was still unfinished. But now, we were simply expecting to see things we already know about. The suspense was lost.

2) Said suspense was quite diminutive during the ending of the first series to begin with. The plot had grown so slow, repetitive and filler-like, we lost interest in it. Fillers and pointless power-ups can be fun for only a few episodes, yet Inu Yasha exceeded that amount a hundred times.

3) Said plot was very cheesy. It’s like a soap opera with monsters, revealing its bad side more and more, while constantly tempering with your patience and suspension of disbelief. If they are constantly time travelling, why isn’t the present affected in any way? How can Inu Yasha be in love with Kagome just because she has the same soul as Kikyo? Did Naraku waste hundreds of episodes running away from the wind tunnel he created himself, and chasing for dozens of episodes the shard he gave himself to Kohaku, and caused all this harm because of a simple crush he had on Kikyo?

4) The pacing was very erratic. The first series was moving too slow without going anywhere, the second series was moving too fast to let you care about anything.

5) After the first series ended, dozens of similar themed anime came out and attracted the interest of the fans. Horo’s sexy wolf ears were now the new trend over Inu Yasha’s ears, the Bankais in Bleach were far cooler than his Tetsusaiga, a schoolgirl going to a feudal magic world was far catchier in the 12 Kingdoms. What can I say, if you don’t keep the audience pleased, it will dump you faster than you can yell Kazenokizu.

6) The ending is a total cop-out. It contradicts the rules set by space-time in the well, neglects to offer a good finale for most secondary characters that were there for hundreds of episodes, and made Kagome to seem like she dumped Inu Yasha to finish school, for the sole purpose of dumping her career and return to him. What was the point of that??? “Kids, finish school before you elope because having a diploma in feudal times is very useful for women.”

EPILOGUE

The show is watchable if you seek mindless entertainment, but it gets really hard to care when you don’t get something new after dozens of episodes. It eventually wraps up things, and although the finale is a complete mess, it is still something most anime do not get to have. If they ever remake this show, then all they will need to adapt, is the first dozen and the last dozen episodes. And if they correct the terrible problems with character motives and inconsistent rules of time travel, it can be one of the best action adventures ever made. Until that happens, I consider this show to be a complete let down, and the reason I began hating shonen in general.

The story of InuYasha is about a 15-year old girl called Kagome who accidentally fell into a well and was sent back in time to feudal Japan. It is revealed to her that she is the contemporary incarnation of a priestess with magical powers and partners up with a half-demon named InuYasha to recover fragments of the Shikon Jewel. Although the show has grown in popularity, it has also been criticized because of easily identifiable plot holes and repeating character behaviors.

The show has mesmerized audiences from all around the world with a strange romantic time travel fairy tale with an evil twist. Nevertheless, while it ... is good enough for the general public, it may not be satisfactory to more discerning audience. The fantasy and adventure components may be interesting, but they do not add much to the uniqueness of the plot.

The characters lack adequate introduction and development; they fail to bring value when appearing in the show. Although the character of InuYasha shows some progress in emotional growth, he remains cliché with a predictable personality. The lack of depth in the relationship between InuYasha and Kagome. Other characters are classified into archetypes limiting the effect.

The animation is great with bright colors, inspired by Rumiko Takahashi in the original manga. The character designs are daring and look like a more expensive version of Rurouni Kenshin, but the battle scenes have budget concerns. In general, the animation is aesthetically pleasing but not revolutionary.

InuYasha has a unique music characteristic, which involves the cellos, violins, and drums. J-POP themes and Kauru Wada’s score enhance the action sequences as well as those associated with sorrow.

All in all, InuYasha is not a bad show, but it may have problems distinguishing itself among numerous flashy highlights. Despite a large fanbase, it may not make an impact on other viewers.

This is just a really bad soap opera with good music. This is also the first anime where I hate all the main characters and cheer for the bad guy to win. That's how bad it was.

I don't think it dragged too long. I mean when you think about the current ongoing anime like Case Closed and Pokemon, at least this long anime had an actual plot that actually wrapped up.

Naraku and Sesshomaru are the only reasons I watch this anime and even now when I go back to rewatch episodes, it has to have one of both of those characters ... otherwise, I won't bother. That's how annoying Inuyasha's group is.

I don't get how Kagome is such a likable character. The creator tried so hard to put her in a good light, almost like she is a saint. For example, when Kanna makes her debut and sucks souls, Kagome's can't fit into the mirror because "it's too big". The infant tries to find darkness in her heart and it is very, teeny, tiny that she is jealous of Kikyo. She finds her love's interest dead lover in a river and is given the choice to save her and quickly says yes.

Okay, we get it. She's the absolute best person in the world with no flaw at all! Oh, wow, what a catch! Too bad she has such an annoying voice. Her catchphrase is literally INUYASHA!!!!

She's the most annoying character on the show.

Shippo adds nothing to the story and sometimes I feel like Sesshomaru doesn't add anything either. After episode thirty or forty something, you mostly see him in episodes where he is just walking or standing.

Koga never added anything to the story except another stupid rivalry for a stupid chick. For someone who is a demon, why do you need the jewels in your leg to run at the same speed of a demon? I never understood that.

Aside from the characters, there were a lot of filler episodes which made no sense. Some would be to retell Inuyasha's past with Kikyo and others would just show them goofing off such as Jakken's Plan to Steal Tetsaiga. There was no point to them and it made me wonder if they were serious at all about their quest.

All this made me cheer for Naraku. Well, at first it was his good looks but the annoyance with the heroes came soon after. I did really feel bad for Sango and Miroku. Couldn't care less what he did to Inuyasha.

I know bad guys never win ut I really wish he did in this case.

The series is about a girl, Kagome, who falls down into here families ancient well and is now in the Feudal Area. She later meets a boy named, Inuyasha, and they hate each other. However, along the series you see that they begin to have feelings for each other and blah blah blah.
While in the village a demon attacks and steals the sacred jewel that was hiding inside Kagome's body. Being stupid as hell, she takes an arrow and kills the demon. However, she ends up shattering the jewel into a thousand pieces and now the have to find them all. ... How fun.

Being the first anime I watched, I was addicted. I saw the whole damn series. But when I decided to rewatch it, it sucked.
The show is made up of mostly fillers and poorly animated fight scenes that make you want to cry.
To be honest, watch the series if you want to see something that goes on forever and you like the characters but, don't watch it if you hate that sort of thing.

This isn't a review as it is me just talking for like 5 minutes so if you aren't into that sort of thing then don't read i guess...

As soon as i start typing i tend to get writer's block, so the impulsivity of my writing rears its dirty head pretty quick. That being said, without describing what Inuyasha is or how i feel about it let me explain how i found the series and what it means to me.

When Youtube was in its inception just after the buyout (for ad revenue) i noticed a certain anime was being posted continuously. Inuyasha was being posted to ... Youtube religiously by astute fans of the series. Not really open to 'anime' but being heavily exposed by Pokemon and Digimon in the late 90's and early 20's, i felt this need to 'acquire' knowledge as a young person. I don't know if it was because i was trying to get that Saturday morning cartoons 'vibe' back in my life but i decided that i would give it a try. (I also saw the series on Toonami a few times but trying to contextualize Inuyasha in a few episodes within a 2 slot television programme isn't sufficient.) When i did i found myself almost 50 episodes into a show that i could not put down. I've always been keen to historical events and fantasy regardless of being this quiet girl who wants to stay home and play video games. I can suddenly open up (sometimes too much) about medieval warfare, or just historical warfare in general. This smeared in a fantasy element that i had not experienced before made Inuyasha stick like glue to me. I tried to watch as much as the series as i could but i ran out of videos and simply wrote it off as 'watched'. I found episodes from Final Act later however i had no clue what Final Act was at the time.

When CoronaVirus hit i really had nothing to do during my quarantine so i decided that i would rewatch Inuyasha in full and Final Act in tandem. In writing this I'm really trying to convey an obligation that Inuyasha is worth watching and you should watch it but at the same time i have to acknowledge my nostalgia and keep that fandom on a leash. I'm not one of these crazy Inuyasha fans you see on Google Images but i do like Inuyasha. I don't like it unconditionally and i think the series is incredibly flawed on a second and full viewing. The fantasy element of the show quickly regresses into what a modern feminist would call 'toxic masculinity'. I'm not one to agree with this wave of modern feminism but i can see where they're coming from. Inuyasha at its core digresses into a 'save the damsel in distress' complex. Kagome is always never good enough for the show and is almost used as a plot device to collect the Shikon Jewel fragments. With Kikyo in the mix and revived Kagome feels out of place and sort of bottlenecks a new development stage for Kikyo. I don't know if that's just me but it's how it feels to me.
The show starts off as some Shojo/Shonen fantasy action but slowly turns more shonen as Inuyasha (himself) 'levels' his sword. This peaks during the battle with Naraku where he masters Adamant Barrage, thereafter, turning the whole show into a typical shonen romp where Inuyasha and friends must defeat some random bad guy bandits for 30 episodes. What happens next is a ton of confusion, filler, and unnecessary dialogue which propels the show into its true climax which is... lacking in complexity and left unfinished. It made me wonder: "is there really only 20 or so episodes left in Final Act to finish this story?", and i don't think it was sufficient enough. I could talk about how much i love Sesshomaru and his evolution into an anti-hero from a villain but it's all overshadowed and treated as a subplot by Inuyasha and friends' incesent romp that seemingly never ends and bleeds into other subplots surrounding Naraku.
I don't think i could recommend this one. 6.4/10

It starts in an interestingly way but continuously loses the momentum throughout the show to the point that I had to watch it 2x speed just to make it bearable.

The characters are funny and likable in the beginning but there is no character growth at all throughout the 167 episodes. Inuyasha continues to be arrogant and rude to the point that it becomes a chore listing to his same one liners in almost every episode. Miroku has just two traits: he likes girls and he has a tunnel and thats it. Kagome, Shippou and Sesshoumaru are the only likable characters.

The second half of the ... show seems like it drags on forever.

If your want an old school anime feel that you can play in the background while doing other things then give it go otherwise not worth it.

Inuyasha

I don't wanna break hearts Unfortunately, I didn't grow up with Inuyasha and I didn't have a nostalgic childhood with the series, so I can only report on my current experience.

[Inuyasha] is a manga series created by Rumiko Takahashi and first released in Japan in 1996. Almost the entire plot of this work takes place in the past Sengoku period (around the 15th and 16th centuries) and has a very intense penchant for Japanese mythology . If you are interested in some historical events, then you won't find them here.

By the way, this anime is probably one of the first "Isekais" that seemed quite original ... at the time.

The story begins quite simply, you get introduced to the individual characters and the first impression of the direction in which this anime could move. However, you can already see that the two main characters won't make things easy for one. Both are stubborn, downright hollow in the pear, and only bring 10 different dialogues depending on the scene. This means that your vocabulary is used up again. If anyone has any hope that some supporting character will beat that, no. The supporting characters actually have even less personality here. But I'll go into that later.

Unexpectedly, the main story is actually interesting if it starts. As soon as it starts. The main story of "Inuyasha" runs through an enormous number of average everyday episodes and various side stories. At some point, there is a story-relevant event and then the side stories continue. The background of the main plot and the events of this world as well as the story about the main antagonist is very interesting and will leave a good impression on me. If it hadn't been for the vague implementation, as I said. And the element through which the fight between the protagonists and the antagonist reminded me more of "Ash vs Team Rocket" (Pokemon) which made the whole thing seem very monotonous. This enabled me to take him a lot less seriously. Especially big twists and turns are not to be expected here, the plot is just above average and only shows a few fragments of the past in the process so that the present makes a little more sense.

With the main characters, I reached my limits every now and then. If anyone knows the anime "Zero no Tsukaima", they can compare it to Saito and Louis, only without the "perverted aspect".
Kagome was a pain in the ass and unsympathetic. She had little character development and remained a person until the end, who had almost the same dialogues every episode. And geez, did I hate the conversations between Inuyasha and Kagome. They always came down to the same thing and the gags behind them weren't even funny, especially not after 50 times.
Inuyasha was the typical "nothing in the back of the head" protagonist who would rather swing his sword and scream instead of thinking. He did have some shining moments, though, which I hoped would become his real personality, but no. As soon as it started developing, it immediately went backwards.
For me, Miroku and Sango were almost the actual "antagonists" in this work. Only thanks to her personality, lack of charisma, and her talent for being uncomfortable.
Miroku made the same perverted jokes over and over again and had little personality. And Sango was the other side of this sidekick which was completely unsympathetic and also put the same scenes and jokes on a loop. Why do you do this to the audience in the first place? You shouldn't create supporting characters if you don't know what to feel with them.
The remaining supporting characters were roughly on par with the protagonists and nothing worth mentioning.
One and only the main antagonist was quite interesting. I also liked his personality and charisma. However, it was almost portrayed as a joke given how often his plans backfired. However, his background was very noteworthy. He's definitely one of the better anime antagonists, but he could never reach his true potential in this anime. I don't know if it was different in the manga.
Sesshoumaru and his group also had their noteworthy results and various minimal development. However, I lacked the implementation. How it got from point A to point B was not clear enough.

The animations were pretty nice. Often times it was just still images, but they didn't really break the flow. Since the anime generally had no dynamics, the fights were at least portrayed fairly according to the setting.

Musically, at least Intro 3 was individual and recognizable. The rest of the intros were average, even if I found their "gentle and calm" manner quite appropriate. The Osts in Inuyasha were at least very fitting and set the atmosphere well.


Conclusion

Inuyasha is an anime that hasn't aged well like most of the others. I wish I had seen him back then as a child, maybe I could enjoy him that way. However, it would have disappointed me more now.

Who "not" grew up with the series and wants to watch it fresh. Should at least pay attention to what he is getting into. The anime is long but has little content. And the everyday episodes and the relationships between the characters are just low mediocrity.

This review will deal with Inuyasha's first and second season (Kanketsu-hen). Showing a bit of the differences that exist between the two, so there will be some spoilers, but don't worry, I'll let you know beforehand when you are talking about one.

Story / Plot:
A brief summary for you who want to watch: Inuyasha tells the story of a girl named Kagome who is the reincarnation of a miko (priestess) from a time when Japan was still feudal and her fellow Inuyasha, a hanyou (a half-breed) , which has the heart of both a Youkai and a human, which due to some events were forced to ... recover the shikon no tama or shikon jewel which has now been shattered into various fragments and spread throughout the world. Since I didn't read the manga, I'll just refrain from talking about adapting the story shown and some episodes. I'm going to start by saying that Inuyasha is a shounen fused with a shoujo that sometimes carries seinen themes, this is due to Inuyasha being a light and simple love story that sometimes turns out to be extremely complex and real with a character that doesn't she can decide between which woman to love and a protagonist who doesn't know how to deal with her jealousy of her rival, Kikyou, the priestess who was formerly Inuyasha's mistress, well, before she imprisoned him in a tree. There is not much to talk about, the animation is not awarded or something, but there is a clear improvement over the manga due to the age that the manga is.

Soundtracks / Songs:
The songs used in battle and dramatic scenes are rearranged, giving more exciting or sad tones. In the case of openings, maybe I'm not a better person to talk to since I prefer the Portuguese versions, even though I love Change the world in the original version too much.

Characters:
Kagome / Kikyou, I will take care of both because they undoubtedly share the same role in the plot, both are Inuyasha's romantic interest and both are the only ones who can detect where the shikon fragments are in the tama. Kagome is the typical character who had a normal life and out of nowhere was dragged into a supernatural confrontation she didn't understand at first, being put in various perils to be rescued, until finally getting a power to at least defend herself, kikyou on the other. She always lived in this “world” before she died, she was an extremely powerful Miko who purified youkais and was also the protector of Shikon no tama, the development of both is quite shallow since Kikyou only seeks to destroy the jewel and try to solve the problem. confrontation with Inuyasha, Kagome is looking for a way to save this world (like Kikyou), but also to understand the feelings she has for Inuyasha, both have a good conclusion in the story, based on these narratives I spoke. História/Enredo:
Um resumo breve para você que pretende assistir: Inuyasha conta a história de uma garota chamada Kagome que é a reencarnação de uma miko (sacerdotisa) de uma época em que o Japão ainda era feudal e de seu companheiro Inuyasha, um hanyou (um mestiço), que possui tanto o coração de um Youkai quanto o de um humano, que devido a alguns eventos foram obrigados a recuperar a shikon no tama ou shikon jewel a qual agora foi despedaçada em vários fragmentos e espalhada pelo mundo. Como eu não li o mangá, vou só me conter em falar sobre a adaptação a história mostrada e sobre alguns episódios. Vou começar falando que Inuyasha é um shounen fundido com um shoujo que as vezes traz temas de um seinen, isso se deve a Inuyasha ser uma história de amor leve e simples e que as vezes se mostra extremamente complexa e real, com um personagem que não consegue se decidir entre qual mulher amar e uma protagonista que não sabe como lidar com seus ciúmes de sua rival, Kikyou, a sacerdotisa que anteriormente era a amante de Inuyasha, bem, isso antes dela tê-lo aprisionado numa arvore. O problema aqui é como isso é desenvolvido, é óbvio que Inuyasha ainda era apaixonado pro Kikyou mesmo Kagome mostrar seu amor por ele diversas vezes, e mesmo quando tinha o mínimo de desenvolvimento isso era jogado fora sempre que ela aparecia, o que realmente me incomodava muito, parecia que a autora não sabia como desenvolver aquilo de forma adulta (pode ter sido culpa do estúdio também) repetindo a formula mais e mais vezes: Kikyou aparece, Inuyasha abandona todos e vai atrás dela, Kagome fica triste e irritada, em um loop que chegava a ser idiota. Se ele só sentia algo pela Kikyou podia ter dito de uma vez ao invés de continuar iludindo a Kagome que por sua vez só sabia reclamar, sem pedir uma decisão ou explicação satisfatória. Mas enfim, no meio desse triângulo amoroso existe a história “principal”, a shikon no tama foi divida em diversos pedaços por isso Kagome e Inuyasha devem viajar o mundo em busca dos fragmentos para refazê-la e nessa jornada eles encontram outros companheiros, que eu vou tratar a seguir.

Traços/animação:
Não há muito o que falar, a animação não é premiada ou algo assim, mas há uma clara melhora em relação ao mangá devido a idade que o mangá tem.

Soundtracks/Músicas:
As músicas usadas nas batalhas e nas cenas dramáticas são rearranjos das mesmas, dando tons mais emocionantes ou tristes. No caso das aberturas, talvez eu não seja melhor pessoa para falar já que eu prefiro as versões em português, mesmo amando Change the world na versão original demais.

Personagens:
Kagome/Kikyou, irei tratar das duas porque indiscutivelmente elas dividem o mesmo papel na trama, ambas são o interesse romântico de Inuyasha e ambas são as únicas que conseguem detectar onde estão os fragmentos da shikon no tama. Kagome é a típica personagem que tinha uma vida normal e do nada foi arrastada para um confronto sobrenatural que ela não entende a principio, sendo colocada em vários perigos para ser resgata, até que finalmente consegue um poder para ao menos se defender, kikyou por outro lado sempre viveu nesse “mundo”, antes de morrer, era ela uma Miko extremamente poderosa que purificava youkais e também era a protetora da Shikon no tama, o desenvolvimento das duas é bem raso já que Kikyou só busca destruir a joia e tentar resolver o confronto que teve com Inuyasha, já Kagome busca um jeito de salvar este mundo (como Kikyou), mas também de entender os sentimentos que ela tem por Inuyasha, as duas tem uma boa conclusão na história, baseadas nessas narrativas que falei. Inuysaha, nosso protagonista tem uma linha narrativa bastante interessante, por ser metade youkai, metade humano, sempre sofreu muito preconceito até mesmo de sua família, ele buscava a shikon no tama para poder se tornar um youkai completo e assim poderia viver com orgulho, após seu encontro com Kikyou, seu coração humano aflora fazendo até mesmo que ele tenha vontade de se tornar humano, para ele foi deixada a Tessaiga, uma espada feita com a presa de seu pai e que por tradição deveria pertender ao filho mais velho Sesshomaru, mas pelo desejo do pai de ambos ela foi deixada para Inuysaha. Sesshomaru é sem dúvidas o personagem com o melhor desenvolvimento da obra, passando do típico rival que se acha superior a todos, para aquele rival que não abandonou seu orgulho, mas que aprendeu outras formas de viver, ironicamente para ele foi deixada a Tenseiga, uma espada que só pode cortar seres do submundo, ou seja, uma arma que serve para salvar e não matar, ele salva uma garotinha chamada Rin que havia sido morta por uma alcateia de lobos, e que começa devotar sua vida ao Lorde Sesshomaru, que por convivência começa a se apegar muito a garota mesmo não demonstrando tanto. A seguir temos o mongo Miroku, um mulherengo que por uma maldição carrega a Kazaana, um buraco negro que pode sugar qualquer coisa, mas que se for usado demais matará o usário, como aconteceu com seu pai, seu par romântico é Sango uma exterminadora de youkais que após ter toda sua família morta começa a buscar vingança ao lado das nossas protagonistas juntamente com Miroku, os dois tem uma conclusão bastante bonita e satisfatória, para finalizar a equipe Shipoou, uma raposa que perdeu seu pai entra para ter o papel de alivio cômico. Os secundários servem para auxiliar no desenvolvimentos desses sete personagens centrais, e muitas vezes usados para fazer filler. O que posso falar sobre eles de relevante é que eles tem seus papéis bem definidos na história.

Satisfação em relação ao anime:
Sendo sincero, essa primeira parte cheia de filler tem partes extremamente chatas, agoniantes, na segunda temporada isso melhora muito, porém, todos os acontecimentos acontecem de forma conveniente demais, sério, no episódio o Inuyasha vai aprender uma técnica nova que parece ser complexa e nesse mesmo episódio ele aprende rapidamente e de forma completamente usual, como se ele sempre tivesse aquele poder, e alguns desses 26 episódios da segunda temporada deveriam ter sido colocados na primeira parte, parece até que você pode ver até um certo episódio e pular, devida as incessantes recapitulações e furos de roteiro, o primeiro episódio dessa segunda temporada te joga tanta informação nova de vez que me deixaram extremamente confuso até eles explicarem.

Ahhhhh InuYasha... the classic anime that every 90's kid grew on and one of the classics that introduced us to the world of anime that we know and love today.

20 years later I decided to give my thanks to the serias for making me an anime lover by watching it again, aaaannnddd lets just say that I wasnt so happy with the result...

before I start to write my Complaints I'll have you know that I dont have anything bad to say about the characters because I absolutely loved their personallity and their chemistry as a group, InuYasha, Kagome, Shippo, Miroku, Sango, and Kirara are great ... characters and a joy to watch solo and as a group alike.

Now lets get to business.

The serias starts with Kagome entering through a time tunnel into the feudal era of Japan where deamons and "spelly" swords exists and their she meets the half-human half- demon InuYasha and from there their adventure has began.

Then we are introduced the InuYasha's half brother Sesshomaru which is one of the most badass character in the serias and on anime in general, the problem is he is very strong and the serias needed to find really lame exuces to how InuYasha can fight him because hes the good guy and the main character.

Then the worst part of the serias came: NARAKU... oh my god Naraku... the most boring, overpowered, incomprehensible, lacking ideology character iv'e EVER seen on an anime serias.
We start he's story with the fact that he was a human once named Onigumo and lived he's life as a bandit, then he crossed into a fire and was injured and couldn't move for his entire life, because of that reason he made a deal with demons that they can eat his soul and in return they will give him a new strong body and the deal was made and THATS IT! that is the reason he is the villain. He doesnt have any ideology or a reason to be bad he is bad just because he's bad and thats it. First time we see Naraku he have god-like powers and he is unbeatable and that's lead me to the second problem about him: Through out the serias he is so thirsty for more and more power and he has no reason for it... he can erase memory, create new life forms that are equal to his strength, kill and army with a lift of his finger and he can't die no matter to how tiny pieces you cut him, and that's his powers from the start! why do you need more power?! what is your agenda?! give me a REASON to consider you a villain!!!

In overall most of the serias are fillers and boring ones with a small plot.
I think to sum it up the things that made me keep watching was the nostalgia and the really good characters.

Inuyasha is a series about a Japanese schoolgirl who goes back in time to meet a hybrid dog boy demon. After shattering the sacred jewel into an unspecified number of shards the two must go on a magic adventure through feudal japan, meeting several quirky and diverse characters.

Personally as a shonen fan, I didn't particularly like inuyasha as a whole compared to Naruto or bleach. Its first season started off great with fun and cute characters and a clear goal, however most of the rest of the series saw little to no progression with much of it seeming like filler despite being part of the ... story. The fifth season however introduced a new group of enemies most of which had distinct and interesting personalities. The show was fun beginning to end but with next to no progression throughout the series it's more character driven than anything else.

So far as 50 episodes I can't recommend this quite long anime. It's an early 20s title that many people are fond of because they watched it on the TV, and I could've been one of then but I ended up not being able to because of time constraints.

Considering how the kids in the west used to think back in the day, when these kind of titles weren't available like they're nowadays an extremely repetitive story like this one wouldn't suffer as much. After some antagonistic characters are introduced the show gets repetitive in a way that you can even start to feel like you're ... watching Pokemon with Jessie & James flying away only to appear in the next episode, and boy it gets annoying.

If you browse online you'll see people recommending a filler guide for it, but you'll be surprised to know that there aren't much, it's more of a situation where some episodes could've been removed completely. Some episodes that look completely like fillers are even better than some cannon ones, where you see the same people doing the same things only to stupidly escape in the end.

As for my initial expectations and first impressions with the anime, it all started in a quite funny and adventurous way, at first it seemed like Rumiko Takahashi was going to use a plot strategy similar to Dragon Ball with its Dragon Spheres but for me it lost the good it could take from it after the repetitiveness I mentioned before started to go too far.

Despite the repetitiveness I mentioned earlier, there are Characters that are just awesome, at first you might not like them, but then the Author manages to give them a turnaround, and do things you wouldn't expect. It's amazing in a way that whenever you see them you know that something interesting is about to happen, and that episode will be worth to watch individually.

For the final thoughts, so far, after the repetitiveness starts the episodes that look like fillers and don't have that "Looks like that antagonistic character is close again" are very nice, but for your sake, if you start to feel like the same things are happening over and over again and nothing's advancing, if you really don't want to drop this anime, multitask. The Dubs in my native country are pretty good, despite some really weird inconsistencies like the main character being caller Agome or Nagome, for god know's the reason LOL, but browsing online I read that the English Dubs are very good too so it helps quite a lot for multitasking it.

Good luck with it, I want to go to the end, but so far I don't expect any Hunter X Hunter craziest plots out of it.

Inuyasha is a very well-known that is why it is interesting to explore it, going through the anime (half of it it) was to say the least, average. The first half of the show was good, it was exciting, it has a good balance of action and romance mixed with comedy in it, an obvious specialty of Rumiko Takahashi. Though there are positives it also has its negatives, one example is its animation which for some might be a turn off as it didn't stand the test of time (depending on people's opinion), though it's not the worst amongst many. Nearly halfway through the series, ... the anime got boring, it wasn't as interesting as the beginning. It might be because of the anime's other flaw, its pacing, now, it can be attributed to a person's attention span, but the dragged-out parts and storyline was still a problem for the anime as some arcs could've finished earlier than it could've ever been.

All in all, Inuyasha is still watchable especially if the person that will watch it like old stuffs, it's not very bad considering that the manga, its source material, came out of the 90s where things are different from today.
