I guess another derivative have spawn from hell. You got both main character that has versatility to do different task and some stuff for jokes and laughs. Though Hoozoki no Reitetsu is like Dante's Divine Comedy that elaborates pessimistic virtues in hell while Gintama that has more variety and spices in its series that displays mostly realism.

Both shows have a similar feel as far as tone and comedy goes. Not to mention the supernatural element. Although Kokkuri-san also seems to have a tear jerker aspect. I actually feel that the best way to describe Kokkuri-san is Barakmon meets Hoozuki no reitetsu. Anyhow, just based on what I've seen, I think that if you liked one, you'll like the other.

- Deadpan, level-headed protagonist. - So very punny. - Fast paced gag humour. - Colourful supporting cast with their own amusing and troublesome quirks (troublesome for the protagonist at least). The setting is very different but the pacing and style of joke telling is pretty similar. Japanese knowledge is helpful because subbed puns can be hit or miss.

Both are comedies with references to japanese culture and other anime. The main character is an adult and the anime is happening mostly at the place of their jobs.

- Depictions of the Underworld/Hell in a very 'normal' way. - Mononoke/bakemono/yokai/spirits/oni/etc. etc. - MC with resting bitch faces. Hoozuki is a pun-heavy gag comedy set more-or-less completely in hell, whereas Mononokean is a light hearted SoL fantasy set between the human world and the underworld. Both shows feature a large cast of interesting and colourful mythological creatures though.

Comedies with bureaucratic themes and build around office work. Just that one of those offices is more fantasy-based.

It has dark humor with extreme violence and pop culture in it. They both have a topic on demons but Hoozuki is focused on the Eastern side while Azazel-san is more on the Western side.

Both are shows focused on sketch comedy . different setting and animations style, but similar crude humor.

Referential comedy in a workplace setting. The kind of show where you either get the joke or you don't - and have to look up the references you didn't get, or worse go away feeling like you've missed a joke but not knowing where the reference even was because it's all very low-key. Not (usually) laugh-out-loud hilarious, more pleasing chuckles that leave you satisfied.

Both anime are really funny and give of the same kind of feeling. Plus the main characters have kind of similar personalities and both anime have the same kind of humor.

Both anime focus around the everyday life of individuals in an unconventional environment. They have a similar comedic pacing and are both pretty episodic.

They both have that demon dark world vibe. The two main characters of Heibai Wushang are both demons, which is similar to Hoozuki no Reitetsu characters.

Hoozuki no Reitetsu and Kuma Miko are two anime that are similar in some aspects. For one, the two have two mini-arcs in each episode that involve comedic characters. There also isn't really much plot and the series are like sitcoms. Both series are extremely light-hearted. The series are shows that you wouldn't seriously try to think too much about.

Cool headed protag being cool. Everyone is very impressed and/or paralysed with fear and awe. Hilarity ensues. Sakamoto jokes are easier to understand for Western audiences whereas Hoozuki has a lot of cultural references, cult/current event reference, anime references, and puns that translate very poorly. A lot are either missed by translators or left unexplained maybe because they didn't want to fill the screen with TN text. Despite that Hoozuki is the richer of the two with a more interesting setting and side characters that have a little more personality. Both are silly and fun.

Both leave you questioning "Is there anything this tall handsome demon can't do?". Both also have a Chinese character voiced by Koji Yusa.

Both are supernatural comedies, whose themes revolve around hell, the afterlife, the problems face when encountering humans and the lot. Though the main characters couldn't be more different, Hoozuki being classy, sophisticated and level-headed, whereas Kitarou is more childish, emotional and a bit of a slacker, both compliment the story very well and render their individual anime highly enjoyable and a great past-time.

Both are comedies which take roots in religion. While Hoozuki no Reitetsu is about hell as viewed in Japan, Saint Onii-san is about Buddha and Jesus.

Both have lots of cracky humor and random pop culture and nerdy references. They're set against dark backgrounds (hell, Cthulhu Mythos), though they are much more quirky than creepy.

Both series utilize old Japanese folklore to tell stories of heroes. Hoozuki no Reitetsu utilizes the same story and characters, and Nihonichi Momotarou tells the story of Momotarou that is only alluded to in Hoozuki no Reitetsu's early episodes and cast throughout. Highly recommend one to the other. Practically canon.

Somehow the spirit world and "Hell" have the same feeling in these anime.

While Hoozuki deals with Yokai in Hell, it's still quite similar in regards to their everyday lives.

Both deal with Yokai but Hoozuki is more comedy based unlike Nurarihyon which is more serious.

References to Japanese Folklore. In Uchouten Kazoku: Legend of the Tanuki while in Hoozuki is a mix of Journey to the West and other references. Also if you played the video game Okami then you'd understand the folklore presented in this series.

The humor for both series is similar. You'll be laughing at one thing, but then you laugh at another crazy antic. Hilarious, I'll say.

Comedies centered around hell and Enma trials. While Enma-kun focuses on punishing those in human world, Hoozuki focuses on punishing those in afterlife.

The demons look somewhat similiar to the ones of HMS! - The Main-Protagonist "takes a ride" from another world (aka. Hell) to the world of the living - Has the same type of jokes as those so characteristic for HMS! - Demons over-all - same type of unusual well-so unique and dramatic Camera angles - That same "Charmy feeling" - Attitudes and Behaviour

same atmosphere same genre: slice of life, comedy ---> but the characters are idiosyncratic, too. in particular, the protagonist hoozuki is a bit similar to tanaka - he is not as tired and lazy but he likes to do everything with as less effort as possible. also, hoozuki has a dog who admires his work and view of "life" the same ohta does, just in a more playful dog-like way. ^_-

Both are related to traditional japanese folklore and have a similar moving pace. If you enjoy the art style of Hoozuki no Reitetsu, then you'll love the art in Mononoke as well! Both also have a cool and collected supernatural leading man!

Both are based on Japanese folklore. While Hoozuki no Reitetsu has more combined legends/myths including legend of Momotaro, Momo Kyun Sword is based only on legend of Momotaro. Hoozuki no Reitetsu is more comedy and Momo Kyun Sword has more action.
