Well, in terms of 'career slice-of-life' shows one that comes to mind is Nodame Cantabile, though it also has a romance plot. If you like classical music it's an even better show, you get to see a lot of different aspects of professional musicians and the later stages of their musical eduation.
Hataraki Man is another s-o-l with a focus on a job.

There's also two of my all time favorites with Master Keaton (top tier insurance investigator) and Gallery Fake (shady art dealer).

Baccano was awesome, great characters and a well written story. It actually felt like it was a western story, unlike other anime that try to recreate western setpieces. I'd like more stuff like that to be adapted rather than garbage that usually does (Guilty Crown, Highschool DxD etc.)

Also, Dio will always be the best magical girl in any series. No matter what show gets aired, he will be the one to save the day (though he looks creepy while he does it...).
