The invisible-girl and invisible-storm things are really interesting at the moment, looking forward to how that will turn out.

I really want to know "where" that court happens though, when everyone is on the roof fighting bears. Also the theory that Life Sexy and his two companions are the only males in the show seem to be true and they seem to have some connection to the wall; maybe regulating what bears can go inside and watching how they behave. Lulu and Ginko seem to have passed the tests until now, the rabbit-toothed bear this episode obviously did not....

By "eaten" you mean "got her lily licked"? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I mean, was she eaten at all? The whole trial scene is yet to be explained, so for now it is too early to look for any sense in it, I think.

...yeah, something like that. But the court gave them the permission to "eat".

I don't mind some things being left in the dark at the beginning, but I prefer, when at least some inner logic is discernable. The fact that there're different bears attacking and attending the court confuses me. And reuse of such a long scene is not very good.

Really...if you will try to see this plot literally, you can as well drop it now. It's clear that the plot is here to serve the metaphors, and not the contrary. So yeah, things won't make sense because they actually mean something else.

Anyway, I don't know if Kureha can be considered an open lesbian. She still called Sumika her friend and had a pretty class S relationship with her. It's clear that they were lesbian, though, but they still were in the closet. Kureha is confused, and that's what makes her a target to the hungry lesbians: a pure and confuse girl who's just realizing her sexuality.

The invisibles girls are probably straight, they're playing at love since they study on a all girls school and have no contact with men. That's why Kureha's love was the true thing, because the love of the other girls weren't. And that's why the bears dislike them, because they don't even like girls.

And the invisible storm would be the social pressure to be straight, since Japan's society doesn't really accept adult lesbians.

That's what I think for now, at least.

She got 'shot down.'

Don't think she is dead in the traditional sense. Don't think the other girl is either really. But I'm not sure this show is going to have a strict continuity of action-consequence. Most of this show is metaphor. Lots of euphemisms. 'Yuri' to describe lesbian relationships is a euphemism in itself so maybe it's playing off that. I'm not sure the 'roof' is a real place either, but maybe a metaphor in itself. The 'Wall of Severance' keeps calling Kureha and telling her to go up there - voice of society inside her head?

Or maybe the show is just batshit crazy and trolling the heck out of us! :D

In other thoughts: in the court scene, Life Beauty basically said everyone has different (sexual) appetites. So less than a week between 'meals' is hardly 'overeating.' LOL!

Anyway, I find this show interesting, so I'm going to keep watching for now.

I think that qualifies as Kuma Shock!

Me just guessing, but I think lust and jealousy is what turns a yuri into a kuma, so potentially all the characters are bears, they just haven't hit their trigger yet. It is pure love that is attracting the "bears", because Kureha had a pure love, that is why she is the target.

Great episode. Making sense right now isn't important to me, just make it interesting, and damn is this show interesting. Gao gao.

That has a lot to do with the director. You see the same things in his previous works, Utena and Mawaru Penguindrum. There are certain scenes he'll keep coming back to, like Utena's climb to the dueling grounds in Utena and that one girls transformation in Penguindrum. I think its tied in with the symbolism in these shows

But yeah, typical Ikuhara work, has me thinking hard and getting nowhere. Very entertaining despite it all, cant wait to see more.

So two episode in Ikuhara already lost his self control and having as much fan service on this episode as possible, at least he has a perfect reason to do that and I sure many viewers will help him justify that, you see why he is so awesome? If it is just nobody many more would just get turned off by it.

Well it is nice to see anyone can turn into Kuma if their desires get the best of them, I also want to be one of them cause they are so god damn cute. But you have to be a "Yuri" to be able to do that I guess. Maybe it's infectious? But seeing Konomi can just turn into a Kuma is just out of nowhere. A little bit boring and repetitive, I know repetitive is Ikuhara's thing but some of that just not as interesting as those in Penguindrum.

So sexy. Yet Ginko still doesn't give a shit about her.

Episode two answered my dilema regarding the lilies, by making the president being a bear herself. She was trying to make the couple's "yuri-side" bloom after all. I was right on her having second intentions too, but it seems she had her eyes on Kureha instead of Sumika.

I agree 100%, except for what the invisible girls represent. I think they represent fully-closeted, lesbians who actually rejected their natures and despise what they are, as opposed to bears who unapologetically embrace it, and girls like Kureha who simply don;t understand it yet. Eating invisible girls means dating a closeted lesbian, who won't admit what and why they're doing it.

All in all a really good ep, managed to keep up with the first, answer a few questions and raise new ones.

This show is so over the top and confusing at the same time.

You have no idea what the fuck you're watching, but you cant stop watching.

So...everyone and their mother is a bear now. I wouldn't be surprised if Kureha was the only human. Dead bucktooth girl and now Mitsuko.

Lulu was getting like nose deep into Ginko's ass there for a second. With Ginko completely uncaring lol.

I never understand what happens with the roof scenes. Both times Kureha got attacked by a bear, fell down the stairs, bear court goes into session (which is another confusing as hell matter entirely), Lulu and Ginko transform, lick Kureha's lily penis thing, goes back to reality, Kureha never actually falls downstairs or anything.

Well, maybe next week will explain some stuff.

Ya know what... I wrote a post before and decided to delete it... trying to understand this show is like trying to understand FLCL for the first time.

The comedy is good so far. Ginko and Lulu have great interactions with other people because they are just so... silly and weird... lol

The visuals and soundtrack as usual are pretty good... KUMA SHOCK!

As far as I can tell though, the bears are only interested in lesbians because love tastes good and since there are no males around, only lesbians experience real love.

Why they decided to eat Sumika and simply taste Kureha though... I am not sure... Maybe it's because there is something different between Sumika and Kureha... That has yet to be revealed. All we know about Sumika so far is that she was a kindhearted girl who did nice things. My guess is that the point of this series is the mystery of why the bears are killing people and why they are simply tasting others.

Perhaps it's because they desire legitimate love so they sabotage other romances, either by eating the problem member or manipulating or whatever so that they can have the one they are after themselves.

I am not sure yet... all I know is that I want to watch this to the end to see if it's either going to all come together... or if the creator is just trolling us. lol

Edit: Actually, I made 1 observation. The bears are accused of SINNING which is of course related to religion. The sin being when they eat people. This could be seen as a parallel of people who compare homosexuality to murder, thus they are both murdering someone and having sex with the same gender... this is just a shot in the dark though.

Yes, I think that is exactly the case. I think people become bears when they have some sort of sexual desire towards the same gender. When Life Sexy asks them if they want to be invisible or eat humans, he is asking if they want to be invisible, thus another part of the herd, or eat humans, being explore their sexuality.

Committing a SIN as they put it, I feel is a direct reference to people who think of homosexuality as wrong based off their religious beliefs, thus they portray bears eating humans as murder when in fact it's just them committing sexual acts with those of the same gender.

It's possible that Sumika isn't even dead, maybe she was given a choice as well. As they said in the first episode, the invisible storm comes whenever someone experiences true love. Maybe Sumika wanted to take her relationship with Kureha to the next level but because of the way the world works, she must become a bear, hence why the man on the phone stated, "If your love is true then you must give your body to the bears". Perhaps Sumika is a bear now and casted outside the wall. We never did see her body being literally eaten.

Of course, that still doesn't explain everything... and it's still just speculation... I'm just trying to make sense out of this show at this point...

Oh yes, I did watch and enjoy "Sakura Trick" ( 桜Trick / Jan-March 2014 ).

There is certainly a body of opinion which says that "Sakura Trick" was
"Central-Element Yuri", since it is listed here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuri_%28genre%29

Having watched the series very carefully, I would have placed it on the
"Secondary-Element Yuri" list. In other words, in the same category as
"Yuru Yuri" (where the Yuri aspect is there just for comic relief) or
"Puella Magi Madoka Magica" and "Kanamemo" (where there was genuine
Yuri which was only a small part of the overall story).

I felt that the characters in "Sakura Trick" were so emotionally shallow
that there was no depiction of the deep relationships that are a defining
feature of the Yuri genre. The Japanese-language Wikipedia article about
"Sakura Trick" classifies its genre primarily as "yonkoma" (よんコマ) and
secondarily as "school".

Back in January 2014, I was very interested to watch "Sakura Trick" and
see whether it would finally end the multi-year "Yuri drought". Certainly,
there was a lot of optimistic expectation of that among Yuri fans.

I loved the series. I just don't believe it is Central-Element Yuri.

I might have unfairly overlooked "Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san" (2014,
犬神さんと猫山さん) since I never actually watched the series. I tended to
dismiss it as possibly being Central-Element Yuri since it is also based on
a yonkoma manga. On the other hand, there is some body of opinion that
it really should be classified as Central-Element Yuri.

So, my apologies to all "Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san" fans.

Some Yuri fans also had high hopes for "Akuma no Riddle" (悪魔のリドル)
which aired in April 2014. I watched about half of it, and just can't see
any justification for considering it to be Central-Element Yuri. Standard
sources of information support this. At best, it is Secondary-Element Yuri.
It was basically a school-based bloody action story with some Yuri subtext
thrown in.

There were two very good Central-Element Yuri series which came out
at the end of 2009:

Aoi Hana (青い花) July - September 2009
Sasameki Koto (ささめきこと) October - December 30th, 2009

I like both of those series and have watched and re-watched them. But
I think that they are both flawed and really not up to the standard of
excellence of "Maria-sama ga Miteru". After all, both "Aoi Hana" and
"Sasameki Koto" crashed and burned from a business point of view, which
some people think is what killed the Central-Element Yuri genre after
the end of 2009. So the "Yuri drought" started on Dec 31, 2009.

"Sasameki Koto" has some great Yuri parts:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCfGATD0uTc

"Aoi Hana" certainly does as well:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXPwRDzt-MA

Some people do believe that "Kanamemo" actually was Central-Element
Yuri, and it finished airing in September 2009. One Yuri fan even spliced
together all of the Yuri parts of "Kanamemo":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OiPczwnBEA

- - - - - - -

In Summary: "Yuri Kuma Arashi" is the best "Central-Element Yuri" TV
anime series since "Maria-sama ga Miteru" finished airing in mid-2009.
But this opinion is tentative until I have seen the next episode.

MariMite is tough to beat:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAv94oTsmsk
...and there is a totally-awesome live-action movie version of MariMite from 2010:

I think my issue with the show is that he made it TOO symbolic that it's extremely hard to follow. There is such absurdity that when you try to make sense of it you aren't sure if you are on to something or if you are just overthinking things.

Of course, I do think the absurdity is funny at times. Especially whenever Lulu and Ginko are involved. I just wish I could follow it as a legitimate story... x_X

Do people in this thread even watch more than moeblobs and ecchi harem garbage? If people found this episode confusing, they'll have a hard time with any complex show. Hey it's Ikuhara! It will be an allout orgy ... at least in a metaphoric sense ... XD
And even the Opening has hints to it ... :P

But anyway ... It took me some time but I really love Ikuharas crazy narrative style. I don't even care if the characters are very interesting at the moment, because there is so much other stuff you can wrap your Head around ...

And the sound cues alone make me laugh every time. Ikuhara seems to have real fun with this show ... XD

It's also great to read all the interpretations from all this different people. When I started watching Ep1 I had only a very vague idea what's going on and what the metaphors are about. But after two Episodes and a few thread-pages I really start to get this and now that the basic-themes seem to be clear it's a lot easier to concentrate on the details.

I doubt the yuri in everybody's names means they're bears because that's basically all the characters in the show, the yuri in the name should just be for jokes since the show is a shoujo ai.

Erm... nope, I mean...
Tsubaki, Kureha-human
Izumino, Sumika -human
Yurigasaki, Lulu-bear
Yurishiro, Ginko-bear
Yurizono, Mitsuko-bear
Yurikawa, Konomi-bear

Yes, it seems anyone with Yuri in their (last)name is a bear (I wonder about Yurika though). I thought this at least, was pretty obvious.

Whether girls can/are turning into bears though, is another story.

I can't understand any of it. I thought after watch the 2nd episode i could somehow understand the plot. And i really annoyed by the "Kuma Shock" sounds, it's disgusting ..

Yurizono eated Sumika, Ginko and Lulu are the ones who eated Kureha. Maybe the difference is that Yurizono doesn't really loved Sumika. She was just like someone wanting seduce a cute girl. It's a destructive emotion that has only lust on it, and that would destroy Sumika. Ginko seems to really love Kureha, though. So her eating would be more gentle and passionate.

"Sore wa SEXY! Shaba-da-doo." <3

Here we go. Structure repetition, just the way Ikuhara likes it. While I've never had an issue with his methods, I wonder if he has enough room to keep this up. He is working with a limit of 12 episodes after all. Hopefully he knows not to push it too far, resulting in a rushed ending. But in Ikuhara we trust.

Really liked this episode. Lulu always makes me smile. I love how aggressive the bears are. Real subtle, Ikuhara. Although, the metaphysical plain here isn't as clear to me as it was in Rev Girl or Penguindrum. I guess I'll just need an episode more or two to get it. Really hope this show works out! I'm so pumped for next week. Bring on more one-sided, and incredibly sexy, court cases!

This show is really tasteless, couldn't they have had pairings and stuck with them? It's going to be an all-out orgy at this rate.

Is that... a bad thing? Fuckin' A, keep the yuri orgy going.

I like this show a lot more than Sakura Trick, mainly because the main characters doesn't bother the living shit out of me, and here they are at least decent. The story here is a clusterfuck but that makes it a little bit interesting, and the "subtle" yuri things is at least better than two cardboard-characters kissing half the episodes in ST. It actually loses it's charm after a while.

So 7/10 as of yet
