Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru
Personal Rating: 4<x<8.5
MAL Rating: 7<x<8.5
Reasoning: It gets a higher bound because Brains Base's presentation of it insinuates that it's not going to be reliant and revolving around comedy. In comparison to Haganai, in which comedy is the primary element, it appears that comedy will be an auxiliary one in OreGairu. Rather, this series should revolve more around the interactions among the characters; this ushers in the possibility of a nascent romance & subsequent sentimental developments. Unless the series develops an adamant, concrete romance by the time the series ends, it won't supersede an '8'. If it mimics Haganai in that it'll be reliant on comedy [placing romance and character interactions second], then it'll be stuck within the 7<x<7.75 bound for eternity. I don't see it dropping below a 7.
Hataraku Maō-sama
Personal Rating: 7<x<8.1
MAL Rating: 7.75<x<8.5
Reasoning: The fantastic integration of comedy gives Hataraku a very high low bound rating of 7. It's a matter of the other elements that Hataraku decides to integrate alongside the fantastic comedy. It could be like Working!, a series where romance isn't quite there, but fantastic comedy is -- if this occurs, the series will waver in the 7.75<x<8.2 bound. But since the set-up from the first episode allows the elements of romance to appear, Hataraku could potentially supersede its bound.
Date A Live
Personal Rating: 3<x<6.5
MAL Rating: 6.8<x<7.75
Reasoning: The adaptation's sloppy. The animation and art is fine, but it's lazy at times -- information is given directly, blatantly; there's not a means of subtlety or grace in it at all. The adaptation seems archtypal of a series made idiosyncratically to pander to a particular demographic; of course, this isn't entirely bad, but it won't supersede a certain bound. Personally, the relatively 'okay' upper bound is a result of adaptation, not content. If it does bad, it'll be more due to the adaptation than due to the source. I don't see it superseding a high 7 on MAL, and even that, would be difficult. It'll probably be stuck in the mid 7 range for eternity.
Suisei no Gargantia
Personal Rating: 6<x<8
MAL Rating: 7.5<x<8.6
Reasoning: It seems to be centric around the mood, more so than the storyline. It could potentially be very immersing [similar to Aria], and as a result, it may excel. It does suffer from the chance of attempting to do too much [it's got the potential to develop cutesy romance, badass action, and a meaningful, philosophical storyline -- if it attempts to do all that in twelve episodes, it won't end well]. The second episode, and the pacing of it, should offer important details to how it'll progress. I have high hopes for this series. It shouldn't be bad.
Devil Survivor 2
Personal Rating: 5.5<x<7.5
MAL Rating: 7<x<8.3
Reasoning: It's enjoyable to watch, but it'll probably be rushed [or not cover all the intricacies of the game itself; it'll be focused on the plot, rather than the mechanics -- perhaps not the best choice. The characters seem fairly archetypal of a game, but, it's not to say that they won't be given flavor. If it's not episodic like Persona 4, then it could easily reach the high 7s on MAL -- if it ends up disappointing the fans of the game [and or, developing awfully; erratically, or obnoxiously], I can see a supplemented hatred of it. Should be fairly enjoyable though.
Hentai Ouji
Personal Rating: 6.5<x<8
MAL Rating: 7.3<x<8.3
Reasoning: Probably the season's biggest surprise for me. If it manages to integrate a lovable romance, as well as a comedic mood, I have no doubt that this'll do very well. The animation and production quality caught me off guard; J.C. Staff isn't renowned for their animation, just their averageness -- shit was not average. I'm cheating in this prospective prediction since I saw the second episode; but, if this continues at this pace, it'll end very well. The only dilemmas that I see revolve around the mood shifts [the erratic, brusque shift from "we're friends" to "I have no friends, friends are useless" in one line [supplemented by a change in perspective and music] went a little too quickly. If that becomes recurrent, it may seem melodramatic to the viewer. If this series ends conclusively, it'll do better than if it ends undecidedly -- the girls are all likable, but a difficult harem isn't the most enjoyable one if it's not conclusive. Enjoyable regardless.
Oreimo2
Personal Rating: 6<x<7.1
MAL Rating: 7.5<x<8.1
Reasoning: Much easier to do predictions for a sequel. This'll probably be very enjoyable much like the first season.
Kakumeiki Valvrave
Personal Rating: 3<x<7.1
MAL Rating: 6.7<x<8.1
Reasoning: The first episode was a bit unique. They managed to hit almost every other possible mecha trope [transfer student involvement, war at world, average and inept protagonist, a secret weapon, an enigmatic power, and massive destruction], while being novel is supposedly killing off a character this early on in the series. The action itself didn't exactly bother me as much as the reactions -- a hetare does not instantly become an objective, impassioned maverick after the death of a close friend -- the reactions of his friends were also totally mediocre shit. "Get over it, accept that she's dead." Who the fuck says that? That's not a fucking reaction. How the fuck do you remain calm in a situation, in which your classmate just died, with you being a possible next casualty, to utter something as inane as "oh, just move on." The enigmatic ending, with the supposed power attained from not being a human anymore also piques curiosity -- this series seems prone to more ridiculous developments. It could transgress into something worse. Or, it could rebound into something productive.
[assumed from the pilot episode of each respective series. Assume common math notation for bounds. Reasoning pertains directly to the MAL rating].
Introduction
Feel free to comment; better yet, feel free to argue. If I offended your shit show, then defend it. Better yet, attack one of mine. I have Zero no Tsukaima as an honest favorite. If you can't criticize that, then you're an idiot. If I'm acting like a self-righteous, cocky high schooler, then prove me wrong.
But introductions aside, if you have a question, just ask. I'm generally not a mean person. If you want an explanation about a show that I'm covering, then feel free to ask; if you have a 'problem' with one of my ratings, then bring it up and I'll attempt to explain. I'll treat you based off the first impression. Whether it's acting like an elitist, pompous tool, or as a respectful, courteous guy. I really prefer the former, comes more naturally, but if you're a reasonable guy, you'll probably be seeing the latter [don't be reasonable].
But by all means, argue with me.

Dropped Series
I drop series that I know that I'll probably never grow to really like [or series that appear to have met their carrying capacity]. If I'm mistaken in my reasoning, by all means, correct me and tell me why I shouldn't have dropped it. I've actually picked up a few dropped series due to the insisting [seriously, it's appreciated; I don't love watching mediocre series].

My taste in music is ridiculously diverse, if I'm scrobbling from foobar, it's from my personal library, so it's anime soundtracks; if I'm scrobbling from Spotify, I'm listening to anything else [via stream]. http://www.last.fm/user/mdlol
VNDB
I don't read a lot of visual novels [I don't have that much time to allocate to a block; I like reading things in a sitting, with visual novels I can read at ~1k WPM [normally much less, but VNs are structured in a simplistic way that makes reading easy. This measure deviates on series with infodumps. Of the novels that I do read, I really do enjoy them.
If you need something edited [whether that'd be grammar or phrasing, feel free to ask me. I kinda find those things fun. As long as the subject at hand is somewhat interesting [Editing for a translation? Sounds fun. Your English homework? Not as much.I like to think that my knowledge of the English language is adequate enough.
Elitist Chart
My ratings are probably inherently biased towards series that contain romance.
Oh. Maybe you should try reading more manga, then. They typically take less time to read than light novels, and some of them can be highly rewarding. I personally enjoy short drama/romance titles as they tend to be either emotional or heartwarming [sometimes both]. A manga I would recommend is Chikan Otoko; it's heavy on dialogues and conversations [akin to the ~monogatari series, actually], and the romance is both realistic and delightful. Put it somewhere in your backlog if you liked Onanie Master Kurosawa --- the two have quite a few similarities.
Hey, just out of curiosity here, but is there a particular reason why you didn't give a score to all the manga you have read? Our Happy Hours and Onanie Master Kurosawa are some pretty amazing stories I think. :3
=p. Try Ever 17 if you want to experience some genuinely awesome storytelling. Keep in mind that it has a sluggish start [the common route is really slow, and can be boring many times], but once you get to a heroine's route, things begin to pick up quickly. The true route is definitely one of the best stories I've ever seen --- it makes everything you've worked for in the previous 4 routes absolutely worth it.
Well, there's nothing we can do about personal preferences after all :p. For me, JoJo's execution is far superior to the likes of your typical shounen [e.g. Magi --- the anime at least; the manga is supposed to be leagues better]. Despite it being somewhat of a generic shounen in its basic plot structure, JoJo's unique characters make it one heck of a ride imo.
Also, have you already tried the Higurashi VN? I plan to read it one day, but the awful character designs kind of put me off :p. I'll still likely read it eventually, though; I really enjoyed the anime series.
I can understand where you're coming from. JoJo's not a show for everyone due to its "strangeness", but if you go in with the mindset that it will be a peculiar, over-the-top shounen, then you might come to enjoy it a tad more. On the contrary, HxH is definitely more accessible to a wider array of audiences, due to its easy-to-like characters and an overall immersing mood.
JoJo's got a bleak mood --- many times you will find certain tragic deaths happening to the people around the protagonist; but at the same time, JoJo isn't without light hearted moments, although most of its comedic scenes are found in Part II [when a certain new protagonist gets introduced, shit becomes a lot more hilarious]. I personally liked the presentation. Those vile acts you mentioned serve to accentuate the antagonist's evilness, and make the viewers hate him that much more. Dio's probably one of the most memorable antagonists I've seen in any shounen; his misdeeds are just so over-the-top and despicable that one can't help but hate his guts. =p. Heh, I'm a character/sound/visual guy for the most part as well, so I can relate to your pet peeves. It just so happens that JoJo's "bizarreness" is still within my own comfort zone [doubt I'll like its even more manly cousin, Hokuto no Ken, though. =p].
On another note, have you ever tried Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann? It's another over-the-top shounen series featuring manly dudes [but it also has sexy chicks]. It's a show I'd normally recommend to others, but seeing your distaste for JoJo I guess there's a relatively high chance that it won't be your cup of tea.
Random question: Why didn't you assign a rating to Psycho Pass?
How're you liking HxH so far? I must say Madhouse has outdone themselves with this adaptation because it has arguably exceeded the manga in most categories. The only other shounen that has managed to do this so far, to my knowledge at least, is Shingeki. Both anime are adding original contents that not only give more detail to events, but also help to accentuate the mood.
Speaking of awesome shounen, what made you drop JoJo? Would I be right to assume that you just don't like gar mofos? :p
I would imagine. I'm really hoping a translating team will pick it up, because my Japanese is nowhere near good enough to be able to understand a game like that.
I read both. I wanted to take your advice and skip it, but my hunch was sort of telling me not too. Granted, I still have no idea how important the information in Unlimited will be for Alternative, but the repetition of events at the beginning doesn't really bother me that much. That and I still have enough free time and interest to even read the three optional routes in Extra.
The living room is a pretty risky place to read eroge. I'd likely do the same thing if I were in that situation. I prefer to avoid VNs that don't have a patch or an official localization, machines tend to really annoy me. >.< That and there's still a good number of games that have been translated. There are a lot of untranslated VNs that I'd like to read, but I'll save them for later, I do plan on learning how to read Japanese at some point in my life. That said, I'm pretty interested in seeing how most of the newer games run too, I've even heard of a few that are in native 1080p (can't remember which).
Ah okay. Well, I managed to find a program that adds in the resolution for me, so thankfully I don't have to manually edit the registry. Never thought I'd find something like that either. (-_-) But at least it looks nicer in full screen now. I almost always play games in full screen out of preference. I can never get used to windowed, lol.
Liking Alternative, btw. Not so far into it at the moment, but I'm seeing some really good potential.
Any chance you can help me out with the black bars on MLA? I read on vndb's MLA forum that setting it to 1024x600 would fix the problem, but I can't enable that without forcing it. Are there any other methods that don't involve tweaking the registry? I'd rather not mess with that just to fix this issue. I'm using a Radeon graphics card and my monitor's native resolution is 1920x1080.
hey, I'm just wondering, but did you do the layout for your animelist yourself? It's really pretty! Plus, it's way easier to get an overview with the pictures and comments. My favorite comment was: Clannad - 'Stuff'
