Thank you for sharing that! I'm gonna bookmark it until I have an idea what kind of username I want. Too bad the user "Shiro" is still active :')
Ohh I've actually started reading Hirayasumi a while ago too! Need to catch up with it sometime, I remember loving the MC and how chill he is. And it's even on your favs now! Someone in a review described it as "lo-fi the manga" and that is so true haha.
I actually mostly see youtube comments joking about Kagurabachi. Where are the memes? xD

A Sign of Affection - I liked how they kinda became friends in the end, even though Itsuomi still has no flaws at all and I'm not a fan of love interests like that. But rooting for Oushi is painful, so I gotta accept it ^^;

Bucchigiri - yeah it ended just like I expect it to end. And even if Arajin got some development, he is still pretty stupid ngl. But omg, now that you've said it, Arajin would most likely do the same thing Yuki did! He is still chasing after that girl, even though she clearly rejected him :/

Mr. Villain's Day Off - haha yeah, that was a shame ^^;

Solo Leveling - the ending was still pretty cool, but yeah saying it in English would've made it more epic. Holy shit, 6 seasons?? That's a lot haha. Ohh, I know ToG and Noblesse are loved by lots of people, but Raeliana too? I don't know anything about that manhwa.

The Witch And The Beast - if only they put a little more effort into this adaptation... it could've been pretty popular. I'm probably gonna get back to reading the manga now that the anime didn't impress much.

He was an outcast, so I'm assuming out of frustration? Kids are edgy like that lol. But he has some nice development tbh! Rom-coms are usually a hit or miss for me, so even I am surprised that I enjoyed it that much haha.

Lmao true! There are so many interesting characters and yet almost every rivalry includes Isagi xD Maybe Rin and Sae? Those two remind me of Sasuke and Itachi a bit haha.
Igarashi? That's an interesting choice, I can't say I understand it, but definitely an interesting one xD But damn, it's gonna take a while for BM vs PXG to finish then. People are convinced this is gonna be an epic match though, so no wonder it's that long.
The last thing I want is to see the spinoff movie ruined... but since the manga is still ongoing, I wonder if they'll make a sequel to the movie too ๐Ÿค” Oh yeah, I also saw that about the English subs! We don't have that long to wait then haha.

Oh no, I meant Gojou coming back as a cursed spirit. There are a few theories about that and my delusional self likes to believe them :') The author is making fun of us at this point xD

So Frieren ended up on your favs as well! I will also put it once I get Mal supporter again. I'm waiting a bit, maybe I'll find some more favs to add haha. Also, let me know if the original Spice & Wolf is worth watching after! The Fable manga should've worked for me, it has a badass MC who's also really silly and apparently it has a lot of slice of life moments. It just didn't grab my attention, but maybe I wasn't in the right mood for it, idk. I think what bothered me the most was the comedy, like I didn't find it funny.
The first ep of the one with Grimm's fairy tales was interesting to see, Cinderella acting like the shittiest person ever was a surprise xD The Little Red Riding Hood was even more curious, didn't expect it to be so gory but really enjoyed that ep. The third ep had the best twist so far, because it was less predictable. But it definitely reminded me too much of The Promised Neverland lol.

It is soo fun to read! I admit I wasn't that into it the first few volumes, but as soon as they got Kija to join them I was hooked! Now that they gathered all the dragons it seems like one big adventure and it's such a joy to read. I also love Yona's development, she really is trying her best to improve and be a better person overall. I watched the anime a long time ago, but the manga is way better ngl. It has the potential to be a favourite!

I hated YGO's JP dub for around 40 episodes until I finally adapted. Pegasus sounds like an absolute buffoon and honestly I respect his English VA so much more now because wow its obvious how much hes' trying to channel the JP actor's mannerisms.

That said, a lot of the other JP VAs are much better, like Marik's.

I don't remember if we've discussed this -- do you tend toward dubs or subs?

I have ideas why Mushoku Tensei might be controversial, but I'd love for you to indulge with me lol.

What did you get spoiled for Monster? I could tell you how how much it actually has to do with the ending. I kinda feel like knowing the ending in and of itself doesn't really matter unless you have the entire series building behind it. And I say that as someone who has series ruined for me if I know how it ends. What did you not like about Johan?

Yeah, I think we discussed Vinland Saga awhile ago, although I understand how it's difficult to remember since we message sporadically over periods of several weeks lol. You sound like you're not very materialistic, which is respectable. :) I'll guess you were raised in a poorer environment? I have impulse swings from overspending on frivolities that catch my eye, to turbo frugality in which I pinch every penny I can. The financial moodswings I attribute to moments of financial liberty after a childhood of poverty myself, although I'm quite financially burdened atm for reasons that are their own long story.

thanks for your condolences. things are alright. What's taking you to the East Coast?

btw - do you have discord? I'm a little easier to get in touch with there, considering how sporadically we return messages here. but I don't mind this either. :)

Huh, I see you changed your username.

I've heard One Piece is getting a reboot! Fist of the North Star's getting one as well. Makes me wonder if other big Shonen titles will get the same treatment. Even though it's niche and edgy, I'd love to see Elfen Lied get the Hellsing Ultimate treatment. 12, hour-long OVAs that adapt each volume verbatim. Though, it might be hard to watch, for there are some pretty gut-wrenching moments in the manga that the anime doesn't have.

Anything goes. Frankly, I've never seen DC and Marvel to be too different. Yeah, they have different characters, universes, rules (sometimes), and are owned by different companies, but they're still superhero brands/franchises by the end of the day. Animated DC and Marvel films are a lot better than most live action films. Ever seen any non-DC/Marvel works, like Invincible or Spawn?

13 years...never watched that one, but yeah, here's hoping >_<

Oh nice, I like that it's on YouTube, convenient. I'll definitely let you know, thanks.

Edit: Just finished A Sign of Affection and I enjoyed it! I would have preferred if instead of those love triangles they just focused more on progressing Yuki and Itsuomi's relationship. First couple eps I was liking the pace/development between the two. With how forward they were with each other, I kinda expected them to be engaged by the end of the season but the development slowed down. I guess the authors thought all those friend zoning and love triangles would spice up the story. Anyway, it was a wholesome watch. I'm glad it wasn't like A Silent Voice ripoff I originally assumed it was gonna be.
EnchantedHeart Apr 6, 1:23 AM
Oh, 100%. My Apothecary Diaries and My Happy Marriage is proof of that. Look how quickly their 2nd season was announced despite them not catering to the main target audience like Yona of the Dawn. *sigh* I've come to terms with the fact that we might never get another season, but there's this small part of me holding onto that hope that some studio will give it the Fruits Basket treatment. If that's asking for too much just continue where they left off and forget the reboot!

Np. I'd say it has more to do with unrequited love than the classic love triangle trope. Not to say it's completely without it, there are two character who seem to be interested in the same girl but their feelings are kinda ambiguous. I questioned whether their feelings were platonic or actual love-love, kinda similar to Chihayafuru on that front. And this is just based on the 1st season, I haven't watched the 2nd yet.

Oh, new username!
Omg there's also HxH which might finish when I'm 100 years old if I'm lucky xD And yess Skip to Loafer is amazing!! I'm so excited whenever there's a new chapter, I think I have one or two left before I'm caught up now. I might save them for later haha.
It would be funny if Kagurabachi only gained popularity because of memes lol. Not sure for how long I'm going to keep reading, but if nothing good happens I'm probably gonna drop it.

Ah okay, I get that! Tbh I see no reason why everyone's so obssesed with Isagi like he's some sort of god lol. Literally everyone admires him or sees him as a worthy opponent. I guess it's because he is the MC and they're always supposed to be cool? Idk but it'll sure be better to see less of it haha.
No way, I know Nagi is supposed to be the author's favourite character (which is cool cause same haha), but that would be very unfair to Reo. I don't see him dropping out of BL though, he is too important to be thrown away just like that. But Reo scoring a goal with Nagi's help? Yes please, we'd all love to see that haha. I think I've waited enough, maybe I should catch up with BL soon cause I have like 10 chapters, maybe even more.
Ahh I can't wait for the movie! It looks good and the ost is really nice! I'm really glad they adapted part of the spinoff too since we need some more Nagi content haha. And more Reo too, of course. This movie's definitely one of my most anticipated anime this year.

Something important might happen since the manga isn't finished yet, but I'm not sure how would the author repair this mess we're in right now. I'm still hoping :') Ah, you think volume 26 looks a little weird too? Honestly, I thought people were exagerating when they said Gege hates Gojou but maybe there's a bit of truth in that lol.

It's definitely going to be hard to top those haha. I think Frieren will be AOTY for me, it was such a beautiful show, really hope we will get a second season. But anyways, we share some seasonals, I'll also be watching My Hero Academia, Kaiju No. 8, A Condition Called Love and Wind Breaker. I wanted to watch Spice and Wolf too, but not sure if I should see the old one first. And I've dropped The Fable manga since I wasn't a big fan of it at the time, so I won't be watching the anime. But I should probably give it another chance someday.
Besides these, I'm also interested in the Bartender remake, Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night, Kaii to Otome to Kamikakushi, Train to the End of the World, Karasu wa Aruji wo Erabanai, Boukyaku Battery, Ooi! Tonbo and Grimm Kumikyoku. So yeah, it's a lot xD

Oh okay, I just feel bad if I take too long to reply sometimes xD
Timbsoka Mar 30, 11:30 PM
I don't buy every volume of the series I love mainly because I already have a limited space. I have a few single volumes of some manga I wanna start like Sakamoto Days Vol.1 or Witch Hat Atelier Vol.1 and also a few random volumes like Chainsaw Man Vol.1 & Vol.10 but I mainly try to focus on collecting things that I'd want to collect fully. So I have the complete series for things like Golden Kamuy and 20th Century Boys, which I still need to get to reading sometime. If I had much more space I'd love to just have like a little library of all my favorite series lol I would love to be able to collect stuff like One Piece and Berserk.

I'm pretty bad with keeping up with when things are coming out, so I'm not sure what's coming out later this year off the top of my head, but for this Spring the sequels I'm looking forward to are Konosuba and Demon Slayer.
I really enjoyed those 3 seasonals! So much fun to watch those every week. Frieren is easily my anime of the year right now (besides One Piece obviously) I was reading the manga weekly following along with the anime as it progressed, so I started catching up on that this weekend and its been so fun. Really love the main group so much
EnchantedHeart Mar 30, 1:58 AM
Hope we get a release date confirmation soon for both. I don't mind the wait so long as I get that guarantee of a sequel.

I just finished Honey and Clover. I'm not too big on the SoL genre, but I definitely think it's one of the better ones out there. It features an adult cast and has a believable portrayal of love/life at early adulthood. It can be slow at times and it could've done without one of the adult characters looking like a child (even though the show wasn't weird about it) but other than that, I thought it was a decent watch. Anyway, I saw it wasn't on your list so just recommendation if you ever wanted a change of pace :)

EnchantedHeart Mar 16, 12:54 AM
I actually enjoy live-action horror movies. Some of my favorites are A Quiet Place, Mama, Get Out, Black Phone, Silence of the Lambs...most these are on the suspenseful/thriller/psychological side of horror. Oh yes, I tend to avoid movies that have to do with possession. If I do watch, it has to be with someone else. I don't want to be alone when they hit me with that "Based on a true story" shit xD I also enjoy horror video games like Resident Evil, Outlast, The Evil Within...etc.

In that case, they shot the wrong twin :'(
Ah, Madoka is a good comparison! When I saw that scene, the first thing that came to my mind was Steins Gate, where Okabe kept rewinding time to save Mayuri. No matter what he did, she just kept dying right before his eyes. Poor Lu, how many times must he have tried, and he's all alone with that heavy burden. I'm so looking forward to s3. I just know it'll be a lot more emotional. That's one of the good things of a show not having a Manga...people can freely come up with theories and speculations and I don't have to do mental gymnastics to determine what's a spoiler or not haha.

Btw, I finished Heavenly Delusion. I was really invested, but that ending was kinda disappointing. Like what was the whole point of *that* scene. For something that disturbing and shocking to happen, it seemed really pointless with how fast they just moved on. Robin should have at least died either by Hiruko or Maru's hand. But other than that, it was an enjoyable watch. I liked the slow reveal about the kids in the facility and how that was actually the past. Hope a 2nd season gets announced because it cannot just end like that!
Zadion Mar 13, 5:06 PM
how's it going lately :o

I never got around to Frieren; I don't have any motivation to watch new anime the last few months. I've been binging Yu-Gi-Oh during off times/breaks at work to re-explore my childhood, and after always hearing of 4kids ruining the YGO dub, I wanted to watch it in Japanese, and it also fits the target goal of exposing myself to more of the Japanese language in large quantities.

Honestly? I prefer the dub.

Golden Kamuy has been popping in and out of my recommendations since 2018 and I always planned on watching it, sounds dope, but never got around to it. Then it just got new season after new season and once that happens I get intimidated and blow it off indefinitely lmao. But you experience watching it sounds identical to my experience binging Mushoku Tensei semi-recently, and I'm pretty sure I'd love it. I binged Pluto over a single day just after finishing Monster. The parallels between the shows are uncanny. After watching Monster, it's easy to see the author's themes repeat themselves.

I loved it, though.

Monster has a serious bid on being one of the all time greatest anime, and I loved the ending, although I know it's controversial. Johan is a masterclass on writing an enigmatic antagonist. For how little screentime he actually receives, the entire show is about him. Monster drip feeds us a mystery, adds new layers, and asks new questions every time something is answered, even until the very last episode things are revealed about Johan to make us understand him, where he comes from, & who he is.

I watched Monster over a period of years tbh, but rewatched it over a few months at maybe the right time in my life as I'd already been thinking a lot on the essence of what makes a person who they are. It's like, a friend was telling me a while back how we produce hunger signals and we have bacteria in our gut that elicits cravings, and those bacteria are grown as a response to what we eat, so the more we eat of specific foods, the more we feed that bacteria and encourage it to grow, it sends those hunger cravings essentially manipulating our brains into consuming *more* of the same food, and the cycle repeats. We imagine ourselves in control over our diets, and we are, but how often do we cave into "hunger cravings" produced by resources outside our control? How often do we exercise discipline & cognitive mastery over smaller, base impulses? It's a small thing, but how much of our lives are like that, y'know? How much of everything we do is a response to how we were raised, unconscious behaviors, decisions made years ago shaping us to be a certain kind of person with a certain kind of disposition, wants & interests, how much of it is an unconscious response to former experiences however big or small? How much authority do we really have over ourselves? I have long wanted to believe I have the free well to exercise control over my destiny, that "fate" does not exist, but the more I thought on it, the more I felt that is what fate really is: to submit and be enslaved by a complex network of things internally & externally well beyond our understanding. And I kind of feel like that's an extremely important theme in Monster.

It's a fantastic show. But I also found it very bingeable, so maybe it's not for you? The mystery, intrigue & politics always kept me thirsty for more.

my ex was in school for years while trying to balance a job as an accountant... and as a full time mother too. it was excruciating for her and made her miserable, and although I'd like to say the pay off is worth it, in her case her degree actually didn't do her any good. nonetheless it takes tremendous discipline and the willingness to make a lot of temporary sacrifices to balance it. just gotta push through and look at the long term goals. I'm still trying to find something even marginally more fulfilling without taking a paycut. No luck so far.

tbh, the first couple months of the year have been intense, dramatic, and the stuff of teen dramas. In the last 2 months, I've been stuck between two situationships, got into a fist fight with my best friend of 8 years & closest thing to a life partner, was almost a father (miscarriage), and have filed for bankruptcy. It's been a lot lmao. Things have calmed down at least temporarily, though. I'm trying to play through Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Persona 3 during my off time. I hope your year has been a little more easygoing so far.
Sh1ro_ Mar 11, 1:34 PM
Omg 5 years? xD That's why reading finished manga is better in a way, if only I could stop myself from checking out the ones that are still publishing lol. Ohh those are great news! I'm probably gonna binge all of them as soon as the right mood comes back haha. The only manga I'm up to date to is Skip to Loafer. And I've started Kagurabachi last year but I'm not keeping up with the recent chapters anymore xD

Relatable, my favs are Sousou no Frieren and the Apothecary Diaries but those are from last season ^^;

Hmm, I think I like Isagi more than Shidou tbh so I wouldn't mind it if BM won. Though I hope Isagi is not gonna win everytime, that would definitely ruin the fun...
Ahh I loved Hiori when he appeared (and when we've seen his backstory too) especially because he was so sweet, unlike many of the other players. But if BL thought me something, is that no sweet/nice character will stay the same as we progress through the story :')
Woah, that's a lot of waiting... I'm currently letting more chapters add up so I can read more at once. But what's the worst thing the author could do during the MC vs. Barcha match in your opinion?
Total opposites xD Yes, we need more chill moments like that in the main manga! But maybe we'll see more in the spinoff.

Yeah, it just feels like his death was for nothing because of other things happening now. It's like he wasn't even there to begin with! I really hope the author won't disappoint me anymore, that would be such a shame buut I already have a feeling I'll be disappointed again. Oh yeah, I love Yuta! Wish he had more screen time though. He could definitely be friends with Yuji if things were different, I mean, Yuji can be friends with anyone (like how he randomly became Todo's bff lol)

Ohh what are you gonna watch in the spring season? I feel like I'll still be thinking of Frieren and Apotheracy Diaries, but there are quite a few shows that caught my attention already haha.
I agree! The ending was such a surprise because I only expected weird things to happen there too xD But it was kinda wholesome, who would've thought they would go they're separate ways after being together for so long? To be fair, not many shows manage to have a fitting ending so I'll give them that haha.

Yup lol. This also reminds me of Moriarty the Patriot and how everyone was good looking there too xD Only Undead Girl Murder Farce had an old Moriarty haha.

And sorry for the late reply! I'm hoping to write more consistent replies for now ^^;
EnchantedHeart Mar 11, 12:08 AM
I'll keep that in mind if I ever watch.

Huh, I've always thought The Promised Neverland was horror. Well, if we're talking about what MAL considers horror, I'd say Parasyte, From the new World, Perfect Blue, and Shiki were pretty decent ones. I guess I mainly like horror when it's paired with the psychological theme, haha.

I finished Link Click s2. It was just as good as the first! Apparently the Japanese sub wasn't gonna release until next month. I considered waiting till then, but I watched couple eps in English dub and it was going well until I heard the boy twin speak...I cringed and switched to Chinese. Like what happened when I heard Yona dub xD Anyway, I have a lot of questions, but I'm sure they'll get cleared up in s3. I do have a lingering thought after watching. I'm questioning why Emma had to die... We saw how the girl twin couldn't go through with letting the officer (the one with the baby on the way) jump to his death. She ran out of the van crying, causing her brother to go after her, and then the officer was no longer under their control. He seemed to be safe until that prick pushed him off... was the boy twin really evil enough to suicide Emma? And where was the girl twin during this? I'm basically wondering why what happened with the officer didn't happen when the twins controlled Emma. Is it because no matter how the twins felt, Emma was just destined to die that way, and it couldn't be changed? Or is there another explanation? Oh, and that op was too good <3
Ink-ling Mar 10, 3:31 PM
Long time no see! Hope you had wonderful holidays, and your 2024 is going well so far!

It really depends on how much power the production company has, or how much the original author sells the rights to the studio. I'm not knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff, but just know that adaptions can vary. All in all, it's a good thing Kubo's working more closely with the studio now.

I mean, look at Naruto: Shippuden for instance. For the most part, it adapts the whole manga. However, it has a lot of filler because of the nature of the studio using up whatever was published until more chapters were published. Now imagine that for Bleach. Some War arc episodes, then bombarded by filler until the end.

And NT is crazier than OT from what I've heard.

Lately, I've been watching a lot of animated superhero projects. Are you into superheroes by any chance?
EnchantedHeart Mar 4, 11:50 PM
You're the 2nd person to recommend Blue Lock to me, so I may end up watching it. Yeah, I'm pretty skeptical when it comes to sports anime but I wouldn't mind them so long as the characters are likable and there's a secondary plot development instead of it just focusing on the sport and power of friendship. Oh, I've never heard of those 2. I'm not caught up in the Fate series. Only completed 0, tried the others but they felt like a downgrade. Do you know if I can still jump into that fate installment? And is Akira supposed to be a reboot of the older one? As for me, besides Apothecary Diaries, I don't have any non-sequels I'm super hyped about. I don't know too much about Uzumaki, but it being a psychological horror/seinen was enough to pique my interest.

Future adaptations should take note of whatever Solo Leveling is doing. I know nothing about the manwha but plan on watching to see what the fuss is about. Besides ToG, I usually drop these manhwa adaptations bc I can tell, without even reading, a lot of content is being cut out. I end up not caring about the characters or their goals due to it not being fully fleshed out.
EnchantedHeart Feb 28, 11:03 PM
Oh, neat, I'm glad she isn't the pushover/airhead type of heroine we see too often. The more I hear about the show, the more eager I am to watch :D

Yeah, Yoasobi never fails to impress me with their ops. I listened to the Beastars op so many times... You're right about that. What's your most anticipated upcoming (announced) sequel? For me, its gotta be the Golden Kamuy finale.

Oof, the last thing I remember was that blonde girl betraying the mc by pushing him off the tower? I had very high expectations when watching s1 because of the highly rated webtoon. The concept was interesting, but the execution fell flat so I was kinda disappointed with it. Though I'll admit the ending was unexpected and kinda left me wanting to know more. I'll leave it to you to let me know if it's worth the watch. Maybe they handle the 2nd season better if it's from a different studio. Anyway, I know you're a big fan so I'm happy for you and I hope s2 can do the webtoon justice!
