Wow, seriously nice to hear that my reviews were useful. Nice to meet you and thanks for writing to me!

Oh, Heresy is stunning. Tbh it is the manhua that made me find my old account on Anilist… cause what’s the point of lists if you cannot put something so good on yours? It’s a xianxia that makes you see the point and the beauty of the genre. At the same time it’s on an indefinite hiatus atm, and its beginning is a bit rough, with an important bit of the story simply glossed over... Basically what we have atm is a huge first arc standing by itself. But damn it’s spectacular, so I am not even salty there’s no more. And the art is to die for – the delicate lines, the details, the designs – so good.

Technically, it’s not rare, if I think about it, but for me it still feels fresh how the author explores the relationship between the martial arts world and the mundane world. Furthermore it’s really cool that, for once, the fighters themselves reflect on their reasons for fighting and cultivating – or not, which also shows their character. There's some decent drama to be found in Heresy.

So here we have a gallery of visually stunning charismatic and twisted immortals-to-be engaging in fighting. Lately I have been thinking about manga fighting – and it’s a really difficult thing to pull off right, since there’s no movement, and you need a lot of talent to make fights tense, not those arbitrary power displays full of endless asspulls. Heresy manages to make fights readable and engaging thanks to its thematic and power level coherency. (Now, it is a feature of the genre too, but a good quality is good.)

And aesthetically what stands out the most is that the MC belongs to an “evil”, shady sect, so we naturally see a lot of “dark” skills and landscapes: zombies, monsters, and bones everywhere, dark colors, body modifications, eery misty vistas. It is very rich and feels pleasantly different, the author leans in this slightly rocker aesthetic.

The main character is very special and OP, it is a bit annoying. But then their world is dangerous enough to make OPness necessary for prolonged survival. He’s not the only one who's special too, so I was able to overlook this.

Overall for me reading Heresy was a rare pleasure. Ngl, I am even happy a bit that it ended on this specific note, the beginning of the next arc seemed kinda weak. As of now it stands as something highly special.

Millennium actress is not my cup of tea, I normally story driven and character driven shows. Normally I don't like characters who follow idiotically impossible and sometimes stupid dream. What I expected from Millennium actress(Seeing cover and all) was not romance but a good story about the evolution of cinema, which was quite far fetched. I also don't like people who betray their nation. So by definition, I didn't like the movie. I personally don't like movies which villainized axis powers(because I know a lot of history). It technical standpoint it also doesn't appeal to me. Satoshi Kon is not made for me.

Millennium Actress is overrated in my opinion, Here Water represents normality and golden cup represents unrealistic shine. By "Golden Cup Filled with water" I mean that it looks good from outside but it is nothing but mediocre from inside. If you know where I am coming form then it is fine. You liked it then it is good for you because you have something you can enjoy. As for me I will stay away as far as possible because it is not for guy like me.

Once again thank.

MajordomoXecuted thanks for the comment, I appreciate your feedback.

While I understand the 'guy' in Millenium actress supposed to be a symbol rather than actual character, but him not haveing any development because he is not the main character doesn't work. He is the main character, He represents symbolic nature of undying love, he is the one who is driving the show, he is the one who is making heroin move without him millennium actress is nothing. If driving force of the show is tasteless even in symbolic form then the show will be tasteless. I understand why so many people love millennium actress, it is because of direction that Satoshi Kon was given, It got unique scene transition methods, it got unique artstyle and it got the unique style of storytelling. All is fine up to this point, now please watch Millenium Actress 10 times, could you enjoy it all the 10 times? My favorite movie summer wars(Which has its flaws), I could easily watch it 10 times and enjoy it. I know each movie is different and should be viewed with different goggles, For me enjoyment comes first and art style and direction comes later, I watch anime to immerse myself and I cannot immerse myself with over the top unreslitic movie(By story, not art style).

Now for simplicity > complexity, I said in the review that simplicity is "most of the time" better than complex and complex is "always" better than complicated. Now understand the difference between complex and complicated. Complexity always serves the purpose in viewers experience of the story, but complicated just throws unnecessary
information on the viewers. This is more applicable to Paprika than Millenium actress, I mean what is the point of those scene transitions rather than to look cool, what is the point of flashy animation in Paprika which throws unnecessary information on the viewers to confuse them. Animation should invoke feelings in hearts of viewers and direction should enhance the beauty of the story. You should truly watch Tsumiki no Ie to understand how animation, music, and story come together by using good direction making a good narrative. it is only 16-17 minutes film so please give it a try.

"It feels like water" this phrase I used describing spirited away pacing this has nothing to do with millennium actress. Millennium actress pacing feels like a train running on the road with holes. "Water" is simply calm and smooth just like spirited away is very calm and smooth while being so much grounded in Disney style animation and story.

My point is simple, the movie tries to be cool for sake of being cool which doesn't work in favor of its narrative. If you like it then I can understand why did you like that movie, but as a critic, it is my duty to look at every piece of artwork with a pinch of salt, especially if it is a highly regarded one. I know I am in minority, but hey aren't we all?

I absolutely meant on offense for those who like this movie, Thanks have a nice day, (^_^)

By the way I just replied another user who sent me this video showing what a good fight was at episode 15:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD9hyhBBKCQ

If you are interested, here is what I replied:

"Now, about the video you sent, I watched it, and I had to do it a couple of times, because it was confusing, specially at the beginning with the characters jumping around buildings and breaking everything. I was lost on the scenery, for example on the 00:34 mark, Jin jumps to a pole, camera suddenly changes to what I assume is the left of the pole so we can see him jumping... forward? where does he stands so he can make that jump? I'm not sure how to explain it without making a paint drawing, but is physically impossible that movement. Anyway, after that jump we get to see the enemy following him, but the backgrounds, buildings and rooftops are completly different from what we saw on the shot 2 seconds ago before moving to the left side of the pole. There doesn't seems to be a plan or some kind of structure on the world where they fight on, buildings seems to be there just for the sake of being destroyed epicly by their attacks. This happens again for example on 00:43, Jin does a backflip onto a rectangle-shapped building that seems to be an office, but before the landing the enemy destroys it, yet Jin completes his jump, landing onto what seems to be a tiled rooftop of a residential building. The building that just got destroyed is never shown again nor we hear it falling. There is also the very poorly-made effect of... glow? coming from Jin's sword, its never affected by his movements or the air, it just keeps emerging from the sword. There is also the cliché phrases telling at each other during the fight, or the edgy and cringy attacks that they have to yell out loud in english because its cool. And there is many more things like that on the clip you sent, I hope that was not one of the best fights of the show because it would be disappointing."

Wrote my review with my blood boiling and I exaggerated many things, so you are right about most of the stuff you say, I saw tons of shows with very generic characters or weak starting episodes and I usually never drop them, but it was the pacing that killed it for me, the only reason I could have kept watching the show was to know more about the universe because although kinda generic, it was interesting to wonder what are the neighbours and why are they attacking the humans.

The fights I saw on the early episodes didn't have much strategy on them, so I couldn't be possibly hooked by that, it was mostly megane-kun trying to be the hero while kuga saved his ass, and although decent, animation during those fights scenes wasn't very impressive either, specially with the poorly-animated CGI enemies.

I'm not sure if I can handle 9 more episodes of this until "it gets good" (other users pm'd me saying the same, 15 and above gets good), there are tons of animes I'd rather watch with less episodes and more quality and I wouldn't recommend anyone watching a show that "gets good" after 5hours of watchtime, thats why also my review was so aggressive towards it.

Thanks for reading my review, it got deleted anyway because it seems you have to watch at least half of the show to be able to shit on it haha
