I do think a lot of this comes down to tolerance. Unfortunately for me, I don't have a high enough one to give this a pass. I think we agree on the concept of convenience, but disagree on whether such a thing makes or breaks an anime. I haven't seen "Your Name" yet, so I cant' speak to its ending, but the "density" of Odd Taxi carrying it through and over plot missteps just isn't there for me. If this was dense, then this was the most hollow density I've seen in quite some time. I disagree that Odd Taxi was structure well, if anything it felt rushed in the things that actually mattered. Sure, fleshing out the numerous supporting characters IS a very worth while venture, but only if the story has the time to do it. Honestly, I would have much rather spent the time reworking the ending rather than spending as much time as we did with Kakihana or Satoshi. Telling concentric stories isn't worth much if you've gotta brute force their eventual overlap. Writing good characters isn't, and shouldn't, be a reason to ignore other shortcomings. Characters *should* be written well. If I have to point at good aspects of a plot to excuse a glaring hole elsewhere, then priorities are all wrong, and the series is going to suffer for it.

Stakes should matter. Motivations should matter. If they don't, and anything is possible due to hasty writing and a desire to wrap things up nicely, then what's the point of building story/world/character with grounded rules. What's the point in being emotionally invested in any of it? That's why I dropped the FMA reference in my initial review, it's as if Edward found the thing he was searching for throughout the entirety of the 64 episodes, in episode 63 and it was in his back pocket the whole time. This is why GoT failed as hard as it did. They told this fantastic story, but decided none of it really mattered during the final season just so they could wrap things up.

And sure nothing is perfect, keep in mind, I don't think this is a bad title by any means, I just think it's extremely overrated and incredibly flawed. It's a fine casual title and probably pretty groundbreaking if the viewer hasn't experienced unreliable narrator or nonlinear narratives before. It certainly *aimed* to be amongst similar titles, and I applaud them for it, Odd Taxi tried to do something we don't see often in anime, it's just unfortunate they couldn't stick the landing.

Well, I do agree to a point. I do think some plot convenience is fine under certain conditions. Odd Taxi however, doesn't do it in a very well executed or provoking manner. It just "happens". The interconnection of the story wasn't lost to me, it's honestly why I decided on this title above others during this season. I absolutely love multi level stories/characters/ and themes that all converge at the climax. It's why I love cinema like Snatch/The Departed/Pulp Fiction/Layer Cake etc. In fact I crave them, thus my interest...and apprehension when one doesn't execute the format well. I agree, the fun IS that everything is connected, but if one doesn't stick the landing when bringing all of those stories together, the previous enjoyment doesn't really matter. I see wasted potential, not "the journey was fun"

Odd taxi's use of convenience, to me, came off as a quick fix due to the connective tissue not being where it should have been. It wasn't earned. Smaller aspects of convenience throughout the entirety of the anime, sure I suppose are fine and inconsequential to the bigger picture...but happening in the penultimate episode, and one of the MAJOR driving forces of the series' antagonist just HAPPENS to fall out of someone's pocket and also just so happens to be owned by the anti-hero, who years ago also happened to be the person who caused the antagonist's initial descent into madness, who also just so happens to be standing right next to the main character when the season long cat-mouse confrontation finally happens? No way. Inexcusably cheap imo.

That said, I don't think it's a bad anime by any means. I just don't think it's very good, nor ground breaking whatsoever. I'd highly recommend watching any of the titles I listed above if you haven't already. None of perfect, but having just finished The Departed about 5 minutes ago, the difference in story telling is so far beyond anything Odd Taxi was capable of, I feel even further justified in my opinion. That film did what Odd Taxi tried to do in half the time. And sure, comparing mediums might not be the best means of criticism, but having just stepped away from the film and seeing this, I figured I'd reference.

The dialogue was fine, but again, not worth mentioning imo. Witty and personal dialogue is fine.....but it doesn't make it redeeming by default, it means the writers understand how to embody characters, humor and exposition. Whether it's done well or not, is a matter of taste. I thought it was fine.

I would like to give it another watch though. I'd like to see if my opinions hold up.

"I have a soft spot for short anime. Even if they don't give mindblowing experiences, they can be fun times that are quickly done so they don't waste your time. Joshikausei is an example of a short anime I really enjoyed."

I came here from your Review on Ninja Collection...And I totally agree with you with this Point.

Since you somehow don't hate Tatami-chan, how would you feel about an actual clever and fun animated short involving eastern ancient deities and mythical creatures in the modern world? Fei Ren Zai

Oh, I was very tempted to watch Princess Connect, but I didn't want to start watching more series that I was able to manage and I heard before it was kinda similar to Konosuba and since I don't like Konosuba, this kinda put me off.

Nice, I used to play 1.8 too, I haven't played the game with the following update, but I saw some things and I agree that now it seems really different.

Nice! I haven't kept up with seasonal shows either. I just caught up with the second season of Kaguya-sama a few days ago. I also really want to finish Arte, but I'm way behind.
I haven't played Minecraft in a long time, I guess now it must be very different from what I used to play. What version is it now?

I'm fine, lately I was focusing more on reading books, so I didn't watch a lot of anime, but today I decided to continue Youjo Senki (I watched the first episode but I never continued it). What about you?
