The official Twitter of Kurone Kanzaki's Maou-sama, Retry! (Demon Lord, Retry!) light novel announced an anime adaptation of Kanzaki and Amaru Minotake's Maou-sama, Retry! R (Demon Lord, Retry! R) sequel manga on Monday.

Minotake serialized the original Maou-sama, Retry! manga on Web Comic Action's Monster Comics label in five volumes from October 2017 to December 2019.

The sequel manga launched on the Gaugau Monster web magazine and app in March 2020. Futabasha published the sixth volume on January 13, with the seventh volume planned for an August 30 release (pictured right).

Kanzaki originally penned the isekai fantasy novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou and Hameln websites from October to December 2016. Futabasha began publishing the title through its Monster Bunko label with illustrations by Kouji Ogata (Boogiepop wa Warawanai) in June 2017 and released the third volume in March 2018.

The publisher began a reprint of the light novel under its M Novels imprint in October 2018, featuring illustrations by animator Makoto Iino. The eighth volume shipped in November 2021, with the ninth volume scheduled for release on September 29. Maou-sama, Retry! has a cumulative 1.9 copies in circulation.

J Novel Club licensed the light novel and both manga in English and released the eighth novel volume in September 2022. The fifth manga volume is planned for an October 25 release.

A television anime adaptation of the light novel aired in 12 episodes in Summer 2019. Funimation simulcast the anime with subtitles and an English dub.

Synopsis
The Demon Lord continues his adventure in this revamped series! After encountering the mysterious entity in the lowest level of the Bastille Dungeon, he sets out for Hellion Territory, where Grand Devils vie for domination of the realm. With the addition of a new advisor—the (seemingly) hopeless optimist Akane—the Demon Lord's army grows even more colorful, and their hijinks even wackier. (Source: J Novel Club, edited)

YEEES! I must admit I wasn't looking forward to a second season, but I'm glad it did because I really enjoyed the first one.

Interesting. I actually enjoyed the first season so I wonder what this means for the series. Am I gonna have to read the manga now or at least a summary to follow along the new story? Regardless I wasn't expecting anything new for this series so it's still good news.
It not a new story , it is sequel . If you haven't read the manga  that the first season adapts you have to read it all(because the first season doesn't cover all the manga chapters) before jumping on the new anime  or the manga version . But even though the manga adaptations are a bit confusing to follow for newcomers both of these manga properly adapt the light novel  which is the main source material .

A new season after like 4 years, but nice it got one finally. I remember Yukikaze, the girlish boy who can get pregnant lmao.

I'm confused. This is adapating a sequel manga (an entirely different manga). So did season 1 adapt the entire first manga? Or are they just skipping whatever remains of that and just adapting the sequel manga?
The Manga of Maou-Sama still adapts the same light novel story like the first manga. The only difference is the title.  Kind of like how some manga go to a different publishing studio for brand licensing they sort of slightly change the title during the transfer so that one publishers keeps the revenue from the first chapters they released and the new publisher get revenue from what they released.

So while technically it is a sequal to the first manga adaptation it is not really a sequal more like just countinues the same story under a dif name.

It is basically season 2 of the anime.

It's a sequel, obviously.

It's obvious only to those who actually care about the manga's story(even a little) and have spend more time researching about what this manga compared to previous one than spreading hate

Anime itself was a rather generic Isekai trash with OP protagonist. Literally nothing original. But Tsuda nailed his role as MC and carried the show, so if he will reprise it, then I'm definitely gonna watch.
