The official website of the Shi Cao Lao Long Bei Guan Yi E Long Zhi Ming (A Herbivorous Dragon of 5,000 Years Gets Unfairly Villainized) original Chinese net anime revealed additional cast members, the opening theme, and a second promotional video for the Japanese dub on Friday. The dub, titled Yowai 5000-nen no Soushoku Dragon, Iwarenaki Jaryuu Nintei, is set to broadcast on January 6 at 10:30 p.m. on AT-X, followed by Tokyo MX and BS Fuji.

Cast
Liot: Yoshino Nanjou (Love Live! School Idol Project)
Aliante: Mariko Miyase (Shin no Nakama ja Nai to Yuusha no Party wo Oidasareta node, Henkyou de Slow Life suru Koto ni Shimashita)
Water Saint: Shuka Saitou (Wonder Egg Priority)

Saitou is performing the opening theme "Bokura wa Genius," which is previewed in the promotional video below.

Produced by Studio LAN, the original Chinese net anime premiered in 14-minute episodes in Summer 2022.

The anime adapts Kaisei Enomoto's comedy fantasy light novel, which began on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in June 2017. Kadokawa Shoten acquired and published the novel with illustrations by Shugao under their Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko label in February 2018. The third and final volume released in October 2019.

Murokouichi adapted the novel into a manga on Square Enix's Monthly Gangan Joker magazine in January 2018. Square Enix shipped the fifth and final volume in March 2020.

This Chinese Donghua just look like any other generic fantasy themed seasonal throw-away. Just this is worse because it's not only a gimped series but it's a Chinese Donghua purposely trying to imitate a Japanese seasonal throw-away. If I am going to consume a seasonal throw-away, why would I want to spend my time watching something that is a clear imitation? Chinese Donghua is extremely niche in Japan. Every time I have ever been to Japan I have never once met a single person before even in Akihabara that consumes Chinese Donghua. Slapping Japanese voices over a Chinese product is only going to appeal to Western audiences that clearly think mandarin is annoying to listen to. It's obvious that this series is not getting a Japanese Dub because of some high demand for it.

Never met MDZS fans, huh? It's one donghua that's popular in Japan

There is a double standard here. It's blatantly obvious Chinese Donghua is simply trying to mix their animation medium into the Japanese Anime industry. I mean who wouldn't want a nice piece of the pie when there is money to be made? While they like to have their own crap mixed in with real Anime when it's convenient for the sake just to be elevated. As an example the Donghua one hit wonder "Click Bait". Donghua is then suddenly put in it's own medium category to conveniently display a certain level of popularity when it's not even remotely popular to begin with compared to everything else in this industry. Like saying something to the tune of "It's one Donghua that's popular in Japan". Doesn't matter if "It's one Donghua that's popular in Japan", it's popularity still pales in comparison to even the most average Anime throw-away seasonal releases when you are trying to mix it in with everything else.

Quite simply Donghua is not popular or Chinese Donghua would have their own platforms to specifically try to elevate them as it's own form of medium.

I think the real reason for getting a Japanese dub is because this anime is actually adapted from the Japanese light novel. The Japanese name of this series is "Yowai 5000-nen no Soushoku Dragon, Iwarenaki Jaryuu Nintei" which was adapted from the light novel of the same name.
You can even read the whole web-novel version here https://ncode.syosetu.com/n9375ea/

The situation of the series is quite weird from the start. It is a Japanese light novel adaptation made by a Chinese company. Maybe the reason is that this series is getting more popular in China than in Japan.

I didn't mind when I heard this was getting a Japanese dub, because hopefully that would at least bring the work to more audiences, but they're making a new opening theme? This suuuucks. I really liked the original! I wonder if they're ordering new visuals to be created too. I thought it was really unique how the opening and ending themes all had radically different art-styles than the show.

I agree. Also wish to visit Japan one day.

Sorry for all who like this work, when I started reading it soon became pretty boring for me, so I dropped it.
