elaborate the cons and pros of each.

Most of my anime are legally bought DVDs and the only con for me with that is that I really don't have any place to put them due to not having any shelfs so they take up a good portion of space in my room.

The rest are stored on my internal hard drive but after watching them I usually delete them.

All of the above actually. I download the series I really like and keep them on my HD, most of the time they come from private trackers, so I feel kind of obliged to seed them. If I really like a show I burn them on DVD's. I watch shows via stream if I'm too lazy to download them.

Since I can only buy either dubbed or dutch-subbed anime here,
I download it all to my 1TB ext HDD (tho that one is nearing it's lilimt, so I'll have to switch to my 500GB ext. HDD soon)

Harddrives until I buy the DVDs; even then I tend to keep most of my fansub releases as I'd rather give people digital copies than my precious physical media if they want to watch something.

As for how big... well, I have quite a few harddrives. 2x 1Tb, 1x 750Gb, 2x 640Gb, 2x 500Gb, 1 320, 250, 160 and 80Gb. Though the smaller drives have been retired to backups. I cycle out smaller drives and merge them through to larger ones from time to time.

I usually download and delete but I feel bad when I don't seed for at least a few days and since I only have ~2gb left on my computer (due to other various pirated material) it's hard to do that. And I know if I start storing stuff on an external HD I'd end up with TB's of video's, games, and music cause I'm a digital packrat like that. But ~$120 sounds like a safe estimate for long term. I don't want to have to merge drives later on.

There's also the DVD route ~$40 for the burner and ~$25 per 100 dvds so it's a little cheaper but less organized. plus burning them takes some time.

Also of course if there's a show I really like I'll go out and buy it, that goes for everything.

So those are my worries for the day, I might end up not going either way and just keep feeling sorry for people since I can only seed for a day or two (at least 150%). How sad for them.

Knowing myself, I'd be able to fill one up in a couple of months. Though right now mine is only 320 GB (packed full, of course).

I burn almost everything I download to DVD's. It feels like a waste of bandwidth not to, and I sometimes do feel like rewatching stuff. I'm also sorry to confess that I have never bought a legal DVD, please don't hang me for it.

I download to HD (only has about 30 free gb), move to an external drive storage (around 80 gb, today it's quite full) and then I burn to dvd. Usually 2 to 3 copies (one for me, one for my friend, another one for further distribution). As soon as I watch the series on the dvds I delete them from the storage.

I have to do this because my desktop, that has the internet, refuses to read anything more complicated than avi. So I burn dvds and watch them on my laptop.

Sometimes I buy a dvd, but haven't done it for a while.

And I used to stream a lot, but then my computer decided he did not want to complete the buffers of anything and had to quit doing it.

I download them, then used to burn them on DVDs for safe keeping.

When my DVD writer broke, however, I switched to storing them on External HDs (current one is 500 GB, previous one - which is almost full - is 320 GB).

I buy DVDs of shows I like (and can find), while I keep the downloaded version to seed torrents and/or watch it on my comp.

I use a 149GB External drive and a 40GB Internal one for storing stuff, and both are full because I can't find a job. I plan on building a new computer depending on how much money I get for graduation, I need a new one anyway.

All downloaded anime eventually get put on a data DVD to free up harddrive space. If I really like the show and I know it won't be licensed in my lifetime (which is 99.99998% of the shows I download) they get put on DVD. My R1 releases get stored on a wooden shelf.

Download, watch, delete. If it's good, I'll buy it, if it ever gets released. *rages at Spice and Wolf* WHERE'S MY RELEASE DAMN IT.

I do occationally buy random series if I feel like it and it looks shiny, although that's proven to not be the best choice in some cases.

My DVDs are stored on a fancy shelf. :)

Since my computer doesn't have a lot of free space, I don't get much of a chance to save the anime I've downloaded, thus it gets deleted as soon as I'm done watching it.

If I can find a good DVD burner someday, I might start burning old/obscure anime titles that have no chance of being licensed.

This.

I have an 640 GB external HD, which is about 75% full at the moment, where I store most of the stuff I download. a few of the series I really like are backed-up on DVDs, especially the lengthier and older series (Gundam series, LoGH and Slayers come to mind).

most of the anime DVDs I bought weren't series that I saw a fansub of, then bought after I enjoyed them but rather series I saw years ago and a couple of impulse purchases as well.

If I fansub, I don't save them, no reason, if I want to catalog anime I would get the DVDs, just keeping downloads is kind of wrong.

I used to get the downloaded ones off my friend who went to LAN's and burn them. But then I started streaming, and if it's released where I am I buy the series on DVD, that way if the Fed's find me I have a solid alibi for doing what I do, which is: it's not out in English yet, I'll buy it when it is.

Series I like I burn to a disc for later use of lending out to friends.
I buy the series I adore and like to watch over again, but I don't like lending those out, hence the use of dvds. I like space on my computer for series that I'm currently watching or don't know what to do with yet etc.
