That's the worst thing to happen to anime fans. I feel sorry for the Chinese otaku. Things like this remind me that I shouldn't take democracy for granted. And how the F!@# does banning anime and manga protect the anime industry?! Dumbasses. Don't they realize that the Internet is undeniably a reliable tool for anime and supporting it by word-of-mouth and galleries?!

Yep, that's what your website says. HOWEVER, that website got the info from somewhere else, which means the accuracy is still left to be determined.

This also bans all pirated Japanese games, Japanese TV series, Japanese movies AND Japanese mangas upload on Chinese websites. They are scheduled to be deleted on May 1rst 2009 (left to be seen). The way they've written it, this may also apply to any *illegal* (hey, there was copyright in China? LOL) movies, games and tv series. Well, we'll see if I can still find manga and anime by May 10

And by the way, it's apparently issued by the State Administration of Radio Film and Television of China, NOT by ONLY the Guangdong province.

There's always pirate DVDs. Or UL/DL on non-Chinese sites.

It's really just a domestic protectionist move. Lots of countries have or have had domestic content quotients for movie releases and TV.

there exist *some* *good* animation series but they suck even compared to generic American cartoon for kids....

The manga artists, though, are quite remarkable.

Internet is restricted in China, by the way. If you want to access a foreign website, you must request the permission from the government (I'm serious here)

Pirated DVDs are the only way out.

I had no problem downloading anime and manga from the non-Chinese sites last time I was in China. That was a few years ago, but still. They don't autoblock everything from non-Chinese ISPs. If the site you use gets flagged, then you have a problem though.

Yeah, some sites are blocked, others aren't. It all depends on the government's Golden Shield Program filter....

It's only a rumor on the web. There's no information on the official site.
http://www.chinasarft.gov.cn/

However, 1 or 2 month ago, they made a list of restrictions on media on the web and TV, not only anime.
http://www.sarft.gov.cn/articles/2009/03/30/20090330171107690049.html

We don't really care. They can't do shit about torrent and emule.

Oh and,
