In a previous news post last month, it was announced that manga "Mushishi" would be receiving a two-chapter manga special along with word of a "Top Secret Project."

This project has now been announced as a one-hour anime special titled "Mushishi Special: Hihamukage." The special's story is based on the two-chapter manga special for the series.

The two-chapter manga special will be released in Afternoon magazine on November 25th and December 25th respectively, with the anime special releasing on January 4, 2014.

Some details regarding the team behind the anime special have been announced:

Director: Hiroshi Nagahama
Character Design and Animation Director: Yoshihiko Umakoshi
Studio: Artland

I'm not the biggest fan of this show, but I'll still watch it as it's only an hour long.

Nobody said we wouldn't get a second season guys. And the magaka is only writing two new chapters so far, so I'm amazed they're adapting it so quickly.

Think of it like the Black Lagoon OVA. They're adapting whatever they can work with.

This... But hey, more Mushishi is always good.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

Thank god it's not a live action movie or something like that.

More Mushishi Anime sounds awesome, I'd never have thought that there'd be any more Mushishi Anime - related stuff coming out a few weeks back. Even if it's just an hour I'm totally fine with this.

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

First, why not make something (special, ova, whatever) to pick up where the TV series left off and follow the manga till its end? That's what I've been hoping to see someday all these years...
And second, before the edit the news post said they'll be using the same technique as in Aku no Hana... It's not true, I hope? That retroscoping thing is the last thing I wanna see in my Mushishi.

Maybe this is testing the water for that. At least they are adapting a new 2 chapter special instead of trying to cram the rest of the chapters or giving us a crappy ending. Hope for a second season is not lost. And that's not true.
