Oh wow, this episode was traditional. Dunno why but some of the girls reminds me of Photo Kano. Pretty priceless episode with the blush and singing. Why no kiss though...damn.

^ Looks like the above is the start of the second story. Whereas in my listing ep.2 is the end of the first story. I would stick to my listing.

Turn out this story about the impending end of a relationship is my most favorite story of the three. Perhaps because the emotion revealed is so much stronger, but also by how the location really makes a big difference in how the relationship will become. And then there is the switch of perspective from the guy to the girl in this episode.

Anyway, now we know when they made the trip, because the Yotaka-matsuri (the float festival) http://www1.tst.ne.jp/yo-n1226/index.html took place from May 1st to 3rd, and it is in the last day when the floats did the 'hikiai" and torn apart by people riding on other floats. This is a really special thing to happen in a float festival !! I am glad that I watch this anime to learn quite a few things about Toyama and particularly the Nanto city in it. By the way, this Yotaka-matsuri and the old houses are all located in the Fukuno part of Nanto http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fukuno,_Toyama And I am also glad to see the actual alley where Chiaki hid herself during the festival at the end credit !
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

the animation is so good, and the end where chiaki ran to the forest and he followed her was so admirable emotions, could've been a greater end with a kiss :)

Thanks symbv again for the info! The float festival was definitely unique how they tear down the floats they spent 6 months working on. And I should've known that Chiaki didn't actually want to break up but wanted Youji to ask her to go with him. I like how they switched perspectives in the second part.

I did like the festival, but the characters felt kind of same in the pretend show of apathy they had going on. Which I suppose does explain the problems they had in not telling each other how they felt.

Lovely end of the two part
Ah festivals again, always nice to see how they portray them

So these are actually real estate commercials instead of aiming for Tourism

The finale was "taiski" or something to finish romantic way, nice post.

Ah yes, the story of the girl in the first person was fine.

So I guess Chiaki didn't break up with him. I'm glad they didn't break up.

What a sweet little story. I like how it was spilt into the two perspectives, and the ending really made me smile.

Ending felt so typical and almost out of place considering the small amount of time allotted. I guess they sacrificed story for character development. Killed the moment in my opinion.
moving on.

I was a little bit concerned when he was talking about the floats, going by that metaphor with the floats, shouldn't they be tearing each other apart...? Was my thinking... but in the end, looks like they didn't break up after all. I would say he proposed/say I love you in the part that was muted out, but that's just my personal conjecture, otherwise why would she smile and why would they hug right? i like this short, it's straight to the point unlike those other love stories where everything should be so complicated. I don't think love is that complicated, all everyone needs is communication.

did they seriously mute and cut out most of the climactic talk the entire thing was leading up to

It was nice, I didn't appreciate the mute scene but the end was clear and I'm glad they didn't break up.

Youji x Chiaki | 7.5/10
The story starts from the perspective of the male, who's felt ready to break up with his girlfriend for whatever reason after 5 years of dating.
While on a trip, he abruptly announces to her his transfer to a new job, which leads him to asking and wondering if that means they're breaking up based on her reaction, albeit his misconception.
Later, while on their last date before, we switch to the female's perspective and how in her mind, she felt he was careless/selfish, and while being misunderstood thought he wasn't worth keeping and lead on to his question of breaking up.
Until, as she regrets her failure to express her feelings, during the festival, she yells in pain that she wouldn't be on this trip with him if she wanted to break up with him.
Sobbing, he chases back after her. As he approaches her, the sound goes mute and we can't hear what he tells her while they reconcile and embrace each other.

While, I don't understand why she's quick to be blunt and hit him out of embarrassment or whatever, which may have been a reason as to why he felt emotionally detached from her at some point, the complexity and roundness of the characters in how realistic it is for two people not understand each other without communication is beautiful and impactful.
Even though we're left wondering why he wanted to break up with her for some time, the overall unknown of what his thoughts are and what he said to comfort her is intriguing to leave as is in wonder, just as life and relationships are always unknowing.
