So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

Well color me surprised. Amnesia sold well. It has its own merits I guess and I enjoyed watching it mainly for the heroine, dull and boring as she is. This is probably SAO's lowest volume sale so far but it's still good. Jojo strong. And Haganai only charted for 1 week? Next volumes will probably be lower than that. >we will never have a season 3 because the author doesn't know how to continue the story. |

When the season started, GJ-bu was totally off the radar, perhaps more than any other show, so I want to say that 2.7k disc sales is a respectable achievement, considering the marketing budget and initial expectations. However, I remember, when the show was gaining steam, that some people predicted the show would get 3k in sales in the first week and it's not quite there. I guess the results are mixed but I would still like to see a season 2, with the younger sisters and Kyoro and Megumi. |

CD Album ... 89, *1,200 20,015 Love Live! μ's Best Album Best Live! collection Glad to see LoveLive! doing so well all around! Have all those LoveLive discs, play them to death... Love Live's music is truly outstanding. They have a wide range of vocal abilities. Each seiyu is comfortable at doing solo, or grouping in to team of duo, trio without problem. Each alteration creates a unique experience for just one song. With this strategy, the potential of mixing is almost limitless. Not only that, unlike the typical go-happy idol Pop songs in the anime, they experimented with other genres such as Rock, Ballad, Latin, and little bit of Rap. Basically, it's a full variety! I would encourage people to go listen to their songs. One interesting point to note is that the number of CD sales and Blu-ray sales are almost equivalent, and consistent throughout all CD singles. This proves that good music is a big part that drives people to buy the anime. Even though Love Live is 1K short from not reaching 25K, I'm hoping they will accomplish the mission this week. The anime has staying power because it has mainstream appeals and great production value. The people that are buying from 2nd week forth are probably ones that paid little attention to Love Live at first, but was persuaded by their friends :"it's good, check it out." The explosion of fan arts in anime forums, not to mention free advertising from the playing of μ's music throughout Akihabara, also add to its popularity. I hope the anime continue to rank in its 4th week xD sybmv said: hpulley said: Well, look at the first two singles by LiSA ("best day, best way" is her third single) and you should know why:Didn't realize LiSA was so popular compared to Mimori Suzuko. 1. oath sign - Fate/Zero OP 2. crossing field - SAO OP Both debuted at No.5 in the singles chart when it was released. jmal said: MagicFlier said: Can someone here give me the details on what number does the sales have to reach again for an anime to be successful in Japan? The number is different for every show. Depends on how much it cost to make (animate, market, etc). Also depends on how much they're charging for the discs (e.g. GJ-bu costs less than half as much per ep as many other shows). And most shows make a lot of their money on products other than DVD/BDs. But in general, you can divide series up as follows, by average sales: *5,000 - Above average, but not special. Possible sequel. *7,000 - Solid, but not a big hit. Likely sequel. 10,000 - Clear hit. Almost inevitable sequel. 104 shows have reached this mark since 2000. 20,000 - Huge hit. Likely top 1-3 of the season. 41 shows have reached this mark since 2000. 30,000 - Enormous hit. 21 shows have reached this mark since 2000. 40,000 - Really really enormous hit. Likely top 1-3 of the year. 12 shows have reached this mark since 2000. 50,000 - Legendary. 6 shows have reached this mark since 2000. 10k to 20k drops ~60%, then after that it pretty neatly halves at each step up. Numbers are inclusive, so that's 104 shows total from 10k on up, not 104 between 10,000 and 19,999. A show less than 5k can most definitely be successful (and many are), and even get sequels, it just has more to do with whether it moves a lot of copies of the original game/novel/manga or pushes a lot of merchandise at that point. Awesome information here. When you say shows do you mean shows or franchises? For instance, you said 6 shows have reached over 50,000. So would bakemonogatari, nisemonogatari, and nekomonogatari be 3 of them or just 1? I know we also have madoka, and fate/stay night. Am I missing one or four? |

I have to admit that I have never had my expectations so completely exceeded than with this show. From a genre (cute girls and military) that I normally hate it became one of the shows I most enjoyed and looked forward to each week. Happy to see that it is nearly averaging 30K. And this is only through episode 6. I am expected the next 3 discs, including the Pravda and Black Forest arcs to do even better (including the awesome 12th episode). |

jmal said: Success of anything below 5k is pretty dependent on things other than disc sales. For the record, when I say "hit", I'm using it to mean something that goes a clear level beyond just plain "success/broke even". so I don't mean 10k is the starting line for staying in business by any means. Chihayafuru with 2333 sales still got a second 2-cour season... Big manga sales helped by the anime as advertising one assumes. |

GJ-bu v2 also beats v1 1st week... but the sales itself isn't that stellar :( I was more tipping GaruPan v3 to not hit 30k this week because of the stock issues. 2 things made this evident: The next restock is on April 26 instead of the previously proposed April 12. The drop in ranking from #4 to #14 on Oricon on Apr 7 to Apr 8. It also did not rank on Apr 9, but Love Live! v1 and JoJo v3 ended up ranking... despite being much lower in the rankings on Amazon JP. I know Love Live! is more storefront, but it isn't much of an advantage when it isn't moving as many units in a week as before. SAO v6 moves on with a pretty small 2nd week by its standards. I had hoped Love Live! would hit 25k... but it was ranking very highly on Amazon and at gamers/softmap compared to GaruPan v3 for instance. And Kotoura-san ends up added to the already growing list of bombs for Winter 2013. =/ symbv said: CD Single *5, 17,195 17,195 Love Live! Titan is currently at #4 in AmazonJP. Not sure how high are the current preorders right now and I don't want to speculate yet since it is above 007:Skyfall which was released a week ago. Gargajkalgjkantia and OreImo doing strong as usual, and Nyararjklfjlkfjlothep manages to stay within top 100 for a couple of days. I'm guessing it will be a BLOODSHED on who will get the top spot this season. |

Well, with all the disclaimers about Amazon Stalker projection (that it assumes the current momentum and sales level can be sustained within a reasonable bound etc), here are the projection of the first week sales for the three titles at the top of the Amazon April Monthly Ranking: 1. OreImo2 v1 - 15.4k (there is also 1.5k for the DVD) 2. SnK v1 - 14.9k (but it also has 6.7k for the DVD!) 3. Gargantia box v1 - 9.1k And we have yet to see the performances of UtaPrince2 and Railgun2 since they are not yet solicited on Amazon.... |

So according to this projected numbers, Yamato is currently still at the top spot. And yeah, I clearly forgot about VVV's sales, that has a potential to blow up to 40k given that its a Sunrise mecha show. Railgun i'm expecting to hit a steady 24k average. |

It really is shady haha. I guess I'll try to keep an eye for your lists this season as well besides the Japanese list. Hope they do something about it though. |

^ Yamato 2199 is tricky because not all BDs are released yet. Counting the volume 5 that will be released at the end of next month, there are still 3 more volumes to go, and at the release schedule of around 3 months per volume we have seen so far, we will see certain episodes on TV before the BDs are out. Which means by then the situation will be back to a conventional TV series model where episodes are broadcast on TV before the BDs go on sale. |
