| I love this show. I never thought I'd truly care about a show about two brothers with dreams of going to outer space, but my lord, this show is fantastic. The slow build makes it so much more compelling when something important happens, like the revelation of Kenji's phone call. And I love character development and backstory, so this episode was great. I really do hope they devote a single episode to every character and their calls (or at least the more important characters) cuz it's a very interesting and effective way to showcase them while building the anticipation till the breaking point. Great stuff, and yet again, I love this show. :) |
| Another amazing episode. this anime just keeps getting to me, despite the fact the premise by all accounts should make for a boring anime, they have done a fantastic job, and made a 'true' every day life anime that I can't just get enough of. Kenji's back story was so normal.. His relationship was normal (not the love at first sight you see in every other show), his job was normal, his life was just normal.. but the way it was presented made it utterly touching. The tension (although I was sure he would pass or I would have felt utterly trolled after the build up at least) was killing me, however the ending was although expected, very satisfying. I wonder if this style of episode is going to be done for each candidate (or at least the main ones). |

| Wow this made me love Kenji even more, he is such a wonderful man. (i wish I as his wfie haha) He had a nice simplistic life and it was see to see why he took the exam.I WAS SO SCARED THAT HE DID NOT PASS! WHY WAS IT SO SUSPECEFUL! I'm glad he made it Q-Q |

DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- This thread was probably already made but got messed up with the "forum rollback"... Anyways... Kenji and his yearn to soar and go farther than he has while those around him are content is a feeling I can relate to... and I loved the focus on him, Yuki and their life. ..but OMG that anticipation to hear the rest of the phonecall.... |

| Ugh when he said he was sorry, I was like "Oh, he's going to say he passed." And then a little time passed and I was like "alright, shit, they did this. He didn't pass. I knew they would pull this. That really sucks :(" And then the cough. And the smiles. And I just. So many crey. |

| Omg, such a nice backstory on Kenji :S I like how it showed how he met his wife and stuff ... he's always loved traveling so space would be a natural extension of that. No wonder he found his day job boring! It was always the same ... no changes at all. I love that Yuki encouraged him to apply with his own words and look at him now! He passed~! ;D I kind of knew he would ... I KNEW he would say "I'm sorry ... I won't get to spend as much time with you now" or something of that sort XD Congratz Kenji! I'm so happy for you :D Looks like they're going to do an episode for each person ... Serika's next! Of course, we know about her dad being in the hospital and the journal thing but I'm sure this will give more info :P |
| I love the Kenji episodes. I could tell from the story that Kenji would be chosen but the ending kept putting doubts in my head. Will he or won't he! Ka-pe Kenji! |
| Amazing episode, loved the description of grey weekdays! Very inspirational overall. Reminds me that I need to get out of my boring job and find myself somewhere else... love this episode. |
| This wasn't the best episode ever, but the way they did the flashback was very good and it was definitely enjoyable. Next episode is probably about Serika's past, hopefully these flashback episodes won't last forever. |

| Loved that episode. Felt really happy for him when it was all confirmed. The realism of his character and just his life in general made everything have more impact for me. Just a family man stuck in a routine lifestyle but with bigger dreams. Really glad it's worked out for him. |

| So Keiji finally gets some backstory. His family is lovely. They seem a lot more alive after seeing how Keiji met and married his wife- I found it particularly interesting that she was the one who suggested becoming an astronaut. Seeing his dissatisfaction with his job was interesting as well. I was wondering when Keiji acted dissatisfied after the phone call. Heh, he's a good trickster. Nice episode. |

| I'm not happy with this developement. I like Kenji, yes. But his place should be with his family. He might get a dysfunctional family and an alienated daughter in exchange for a few years of 'freedom'. Hated it. |

| Episode 35 - From the Little Corner of a Big Facility: Great backstory for Kenji I can understand him, and is great to know some of the background of Kenji and Yuri story. "Better to go than not." (Makabe Kenjo to Arai Yuri about a tour to the Everest) "Better to apply than not to." (Arai Yuki to Makabe Kenji about the astronaut selection exam) "...but now there is a landmark in my mind. If i could become an astronaut...A future where I can soar!" (Makabe Kenji) "I want to escape... from the little corner of a big facility. I want to go somewhere I can feel free!" (Makabe Kenji) "...I passed" (Makabe Kenji) "I'll be graduating from those gray work clothes, and donning that blue jumpsuit that only astronauts can wear... As blue as this brilliant sky!" | Great episode! Kenji is so incredibly perfect and genuinely kind-hearted. It was great to hear his thoughts and get to know him better. The things he said were very inspiring! Maybe I'm the only one but...when I look at him I think "Guts (from Berserk) would look like Kenji if he had a normal life" :D I hope he will not become another Hughes (FMA) because that closing scene gave me a strong devá vu. |

| I don't know why people who don't like this episode still watching this anime to this episode.. We all know that Mutta will do something big in the future (even if in the case that he failed this test), he won't just be a random failed guy in the end, but what matter is the story telling itself.. Serika will pass too, of course, but what we need is the flow of story itself, not only the results.. Kenji's story is inspiring.. He lived a normal life except that he have something he dreamed from long.. He got a great family, and sometimes we would think that is okay if he didn't pass.. But after all he's done, are you sure ? Yeah of course, everyone can't always succeed at everything, moreover in real life.. But when you really want to do it and your family support you, of course you should try it, and try your best ... |

| with this full episode on keni i thought he won't passed, but at the end he did. there's a lot of people (in real life) who thinks that their job isn't their dream job, but they keeping working at it 'till they get old, usually because for their family, if kenji would have wanted to go to space and forgetting their family on the way like someone else in the anime, i would get angry, but kenji really does this because his wife wants to, so i'm going cheering for him! |
| Here the decision to go back and forth in time really backfired. I'm all for showing the backstory of the characters, but trying to mix it with important plot developments to create tension just creates more frustration than excitement. The series is really taking its time in this part and it feels like a snail's pace, mainly because they spend a lot of time waiting for outcomes that are rather obvious: passing candidates being announced, the launch being successful. So what we get is scenes of Mutta going to the supermarket, Mutta eating, Kenji reminiscing how he ate at work and how met his wife. These scenes haven't really shown anything new about the characters, advanced the plot or created a different idea of the world. When the candidates were being tested, all of these things were happening at once, and now not having developments in any area is starting to be a bit frustrating. While Kenji's past is good to know, nothing was in any way surprising. Considering this, the irony in the middle of the episode was amusing, Kenji being on the phone and thinking: "I don't need this long introduction. Just tell me if I passed!" |
| That was a great episode. We got more background on Kenji, something I didn't know I wanted. I thought this episode was going to be boring, but I loved seeing how he met his wife and how their relationship progressed. Not sure how I feel about seeing Serika next though. |
