Great episode. Very interesting show. I'm interested in how the sci-fi elements are going to progress.

This episode seemed a little faster than the usual plodding pace of anime. I hope that continues. So far the premise is interesting me, as well as the deeper themes in the show. I'm not really liking Diaper Boy though, lol. He's pretty loud.

Nice setting. Finally a real sci-fi without any mechas.
So idealistic girl faces reality. Not bad.
The only thing that bugs me is the sound. Space should be vast and empty, therefore silent, and not noisy.

This was a lot better than I expected. Despite it being far more hard science fiction than most anime it still had some pretty noticeable problems, such as the typical anime/movie/TV series take on sound in space which is "LOL SPACE IS NOISY" when it isn't as ntHai pointed out. Plus you would have to be retarded to dick around in space like the two main characters in real life considering how things can go very wrong very fast. Still, it's very clearly a comedy and as such I don't mind so long as it stays humorous.

What sound was there, other than the voice on their intercoms (which I assume is internally in the suit)?

I like show so far. The hard sci-fi makes stuff found even in Gundam and Gunbuster (which has some fairly realistic concepts in physics like time dilation) look like Astro Boy in comparison. The clumsy and genki lead girl is kind of an annoying anime cliche, but it seems like she could grow out of her naivete.

I like seeing the "grunt work" side of sci-fi here. This is less the crew of the Enterprise and closer to the crew of the Nostromo from "Alien"- less serious, of course, but every bit as blue collar.

So far this looks pretty good. I haven't seen an anime with a space setting like this in a while. I was surprised at the comedy...it wasn't listed as a genre for this show.

Nice episode, it was a little fast but since they showed what's happening on earth in a few seconds maybe sometime they'll feature the history about it. Somehow the main character Tanabe.. well I don't dislike her but I was expecting a guy here. And hope to see the whole space tour, more fun. The concept is pretty promising. This will be better if they improve it to 3D-FTW!!

A lot more light-hearted than I thought it would be. I was sort of hoping more focus would be put on space-faring capitalist bureaucracy than romantic comedy.

Surprisingly delightful!

Loved how the fresh faced employee had all these ideas of what working for a big prestigious company would be like, only to have those ideas crushed by the reality of bottom-rung corporate life. It made me laugh with the line 'Hey, astronauts are wage slaves just like everybody else these days'.

Instantly engaging.

Indeed! Finally we get a breather from all those shounen-action, fanservice, no plot having shows that plague this industry (ehem, ehem *Bleach*).
I really enjoyed this, nice change of pace, you know?

Shows promise, the second half was much better. The premise is good and there might be some interesting drama. However, I didn't care for the comedy parts so I'm hoping that's not a huge part of the show.

Amazing visual style, satellites and space shuttles look real! This episode was funny, but didn't have a "cliffhanger" feel. Right now I can't really imagine what will happen to those guys - their life in space is apparently quite boring! The only predictable thing is a love story between Tanabe and Hachimaki, we'll see if I got it right :P

Not the greatest animation artwork but I like the themes so far. Science fiction without the mecha is sort of a rare for me nowadays but Planetes has hope so far.

This is from 2003?! Damn, the visuals are beyond excellent for that year, considering this is a TV show and not a movie. Sunrise did an amazing job with the art. And here I thought BONES' work on FMA was the best from that year.

Either way, enjoyable first ep.

I knew this would be a serious show and this was more true of the latter half of the episode but I didn't think it'd be this comedic! The closed off environment that the group is in along with the rookie-seasoned worker natures of the two MCs is gonna make for some great interactions. It kind of reminded me of the first episode of Psycho Pass in this regard. I'm also glad the animation is more normal instead of the usual moe I'm so used to seeing.

Annoying idealistic female MC. I'm sure she will change though. Loving the setting and the small details like commercial space traveling shuttles and the tobacco chamber that encompasses the world building o_o.

Yep, it kind of stunned me how great it looks.
If someone were to ask me how old this show and I didn't know better i'd say that it was something from 2 or 3 years ago.

Just re-watched the episode.
One of my fav space themed shows, and it hasn't lost its charm.
The highlight being obviously the relationship between Hachi and Tanabe. That scene with the meteorite was glorious.

Not really what I expected but interesting nonetheless. Very lovely art, and an interesting set of characters. At this point I'm not really sure which direction it'll take, episodic or not, slice of life-like or maybe getting more focused on a particular something ... hmm wait and see for developments :)

It was a bit more interesting and a bit more fast paced than I expected.

Still, I think I'll keep my expectations grounded for now. I wouldn't want to end up as disappointed as Tanabe.

I'm surprised people are claiming this is underrated already. An 8.40 isn't too shabby for MAL. Underwatched/underappreciated I might be able to see, but underrated? I doubt it.

After several space-themed anime that didnt't quite hit the mark for me I am starting to watch Planetes now. This anime is different from many space-anime, because it is trimmed to feel realistic. So nothing like aliens, UFOs and laser-fights in outer space to expect - and thats a good thing.

Already one very interesting topic to be touched is the Kessler Syndrome. So Tanabe (MC-girl) is joining the debris squad to pick up trash in space to reduce the danger from floating space junk.

Pretty stupid from Tanabe to get into an argument with her senior Hachimaki on her first mission ever. If I would start a new job I would keep quiet, even when my beliefs are different. But well, not everyone might be as calm as the secretary girl.

The animation was quite good. Animationwise it kind of felt like a movie. Plus its already more then 10 years old. So I'm quite happy and suprised that the visual quality was that good.

4/5 episode.
I have written my own Ecchi short story. It is called Nopan Mahou Shoujo!

This setting is quite promising. I happen to know that you've already read the manga prior to the anime and that's why I'm curious whether you'd recommend the anime even though if someones hasn't read the manga yet. Of course it's difficult to say that already based on the first four episodes but still I'd like to know your thoughts about your 'first' or rather 'fourth' expression :)

I watched Space Bros...Then Moonlight Mile and now I'm finally at this one.

The main girl is really annoying with her idealistic expectations of the world. Can she just shut up for a moment? She and the diaper guy argue way too much. Otherwise, the show is pretty interesting so far.
