All spam posts/replies that were older than 6 months have been removed. This also means your post counts have been lessened.

Spam posts and club posts will soon not count toward your post totals.

Good choice, spam posts shouldn't have counted in the first place.
Edit: Hmm, lost about 200 posts... ah well. About to lose more shortly.

Maybe I should start with "come to MAL, great discussions :D" now.

I agree, and having it not counted won't stop me from spamming :P

But seriously, whether I care or not about post count, why are club posts not going to be counted? Sure some club topics are fairly spammy in nature but so are a lot of the general discussion topics...

The majority of my meaningful posts can be found in club threads. I don't think not counting them is very fair.

uhh... I do believe there are some clubs here made for spam purposes. In fact I've seen some. However there are also legitimate community clubs on MAL and we'd hate to have our archives topics get disposed.

It's not that post count is a big deal but some people can get offended. Then again, maybe I'm jumping to conclusion here.

Finally. I still think that the ones who are not happy about this are overreacting. My other favorite website has royally screwed itself after the huge mod system change today. This spam removing thing is tiny compared to that.

From 4303 to 2253. More than half my posts weren't spam.

Yeah, about 2/3 of my posts come from club post discussions, because I really spend a lot more time in clubs than I do in the forums proper.

If you post in an old spam topic which has been created more than 6 months ago and then the first post of that topic is deleted, the thread is gone along with all the posts in it. That would be logical to me anyway, not like anyone cares.

Your post count was only supposed to reflect your posts in the main forum anyway. Club forums were always a separate thing, and imo, should never have been counted in the main count.

EDIT: wow I had over 300 spam posts gone D:

Well, if when spam posts get discounted, I guess I'll be losing a lot more. Not that it really matters.

This is a good thing. Hopefully this move will encourage more discussion, instead of the usual 'LOLROFLWTF'...And like a few people have said already, post count doesn't really mean anything in the grand scheme of things, let's face it. ;)
Your search on "Oran Solus" returned the following quotes:
"Oran Solus? I know him. What a wanker. He still owes me a tenner." Oscar Wilde
"Oran, you're so intelligent and awesome <3" Bakayaro
"Oran's sexy." LolitaDecay
"Oran is a sophisticated penguin." Drybananna
"Oran is a Hand-Eye you faggots." EddieSpaghetti
"Oran for Prime Minister." the_prime_one
"Oran is all that is stated in his sig and more." orbitzz

If you're going to go ahead and get rid of the club posts too, why not just remove the post count entirely as it won't be even close to accurate.

Because of threads like these:
http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=7221

If we're going to discount spam posts, then leaving in club posts defeats the purpose.

And for those complaining, you can always just make a petition encouraging implementation of konfig's idea:

Ok, you know I can somewhat understand people not wanting the spam forum removed, there's logical arguments for that, but people getting their panties in a twist about their spam posts not being counted, that is just stupid.Visit some of the better threads in the spam forum please. Oh wait. Xinil murdered them. It really says a lot about you if the only reason you're posting in the spam forum is to raise your postcount.

crowslayer91 said:
this is prejudice against the spam lovers D:

either way, remove them if you must. dont remove our post counts
or else we'll just move to GD and post there to boost.
and then cyruz and the forum mods will definitely have their hands even more full of crap to deal with.

& believe me. when we post-whores realize spam posts dont count anymore
we will find ways to regain them >o>;
either keep it the same (we did spend the time to post them afterall)
or eliminate post counts completely.

Are you serious or are you just taking the piss? I cant tell. Will you be embarrased that when option #3 is implemented you wont have any posts or something? Why are you even on MAL? Dude, that's pretty harsh. How many posts have you seen? Like, fuck. Why not just go somewhere else to post spam? Maybe MAL has a better community? Has a DB attached to the forums and clubs etc? You're boggling my mind dude, you really are.

Here's some logic behind option #3: If their post count doesnt rise in the spam forum, people have less of an incentive to reply to stupid threads like 'whats the clock'. Lets face it, no one is actually replying in there because they have a passion for revealing the time in their timezone, they're replying because they're bored and they want to raise their post count while being bored. Some spammers don't posts in places like there. No post count rise? No point in replying to a stupid thread that only demands digits from you.

Post counts should reflect activity on a site's forum, and by activity I mean actively contributing to the site by discussion, not punching digits and 'lol's all the time. Seriously.

So anyway, I've changed my mind about removing the spam forum thanks to this thread, I see its purpose and use, but I still am and always will be against spammers posts being counted. I've been a mod elsewhere before and it works wonders, honest.

Saks lost about 6 thousand posts I think, I overestimated him. :D

I think this is the right thing to do. The spam forum is now actually complete, just a place for people to kill time without affecting their post count, which is a representative of their contribution to actual discussion. My opinion anyway.

I think I lost about 10 posts or something.

EDIT: LoveWifeLunch, sorry if my previous post was harsh, I'm not attacking individuals in particular, just the entire concept of spamming to raise posts in general. If spammers care so much about post counts, then all the more reason for either removing post counts or not allowing spam forum posts being counted.

i totally agree with spam posts being deleted. but i spend most of my mal time in a couple of clubs...so losing club posts to me will basicly wipe out any history that i was ever a member of MAL.

with that, i have 2 suggestions.

if you don't like post counts, just get rid of the number all together...nobody recognizes you based on your post count, they recognize you based on your name, avatar and sig.

or, make club posts a different number all together, just seperate club forums from the real forum. in essence, 2 seperate self-contained forum networks. that should solve any issue i would have with this problem.
