This show is going to be huge in America. I can already imagine seeing it on Cartoon Network.

As far as the actual episode, I liked it.

Indeed. It's so cheesy; feels like something you'd watch on cartoon network. I'll stick to it, because it's bearable at least and I don't feel like dropping it, yet.

It's not. It may be used mostly by males but females, especially young ones, use it too. Again, it's ambiguous.

As far as I've heard (from people who actually speak Japanese) "boku" is used almost exclusively by males in real life. Yes, a lot of female anime characters use it, but anime characters don't talk like real people.
I know this. That still doesn't change the fact they used the most ambiguous term. Watashi would just mean he was polite, ore would mean he was really masculine, boku... ambiguous, especially at his age.

Yet you have problems with a small 30cm toy robot transforming into a 3m high "living" robot?

Im not sure if Heroman is living or just AI with human emotions. Actually, Im fine with a 30cm toy robot transforming into a 3m robot if there is a somewat credible storyline. In this case, their idea of a lightning transforming a toy to 3m robot utterly lacks creativity nor shows any attempt at injecting a sense of realism in relation to the circumstances of the setting.
What I was going for was the science or the physics of the thing. Heroman gaining mass out of thin air is about as believable as him being able to punch the aliens to a pulp, due to the physics behind it being very similar, i.e. mass out of thin air. I'm not going to touch the lightning bit, that's just standard Stan Lee superhero stuff...

The OP is growing on me but the ED still sucks.

I actually like the Opening and and I don't think the ending sucks. It may not be Remember, Go Fighting Dreamers, or Around the World.. but hey Flow can have song that not everyone likes.... Anyway.. yes its cheesy, I will agree... BUT I FREAKING LOVE IT! :) THIS must be dubbed and I would hope they use a guy for Joey's voice in dubbed version... and let Bandai do it.... btw... I want some great MALE Seiyu to do Heroman's voice that's the only thing it REALLY needs...

Just like episode one, I'm digging the cheesy and over-the-top action. However, I feel it might wear thin by mid-season.

Lina is such a damsel in distress... The fact that after screaming she ran TOWARDS the big bug aliens... Well at least Joey doesn't have a secret identity anymore. That's right Joey, a true human doesn't hide the fact that he is kick as and has a robot minion!

Some things bug me; why did he use a "special" punch to finish the bug off? Why does the invocation of Heroman make me think he is trying to say Megaman? Where is stan lee's coffee? Why do the Bugs IMPLODE when punched in the stomach really hard?

At least next episode it looks like the aliens turn into typical storm troopers!
Actually i am enjoying this show, but more so because i can be cynical of everything cliche or shounen like it does. ^.^

Action arrived late in this episode if you ask me.

Totally agree that Joey shouts Heroman way too much. If he keeps shouting that all the time, then it was a bad choice to call the robot that. It is really annoying, but we might get used to it soon enough.

LOL, Megaman. Actually Heroman emanates this Megaman feeling you know. I just don't quite know yet what in it makes me remember of Megaman.

Now for the annoyances. Joey sounds like a girl, looks like a girl, behaves like a girl, talks like a girl and even has a slightly girly name. I seriously doubt all of this is a coincidence. I mean, he uses boku, sits upright, has long hair and is all about teamwork? Come on, how many hints do we need.

He's either a twin or a reverse trap. Neither have which have been elaborated on at this point. God forbid he really is a trap and that picture of the 'girl' and what looks like 'her' father is really him...

Like I said in the first ep. He avoids the chick that likes him and everything points to him being a girl. We'll probably learn that he is a girl and he'll hook up with his black friend lol.

Exactly what you guys said:) I thought it'd just be some american kid show, but i actually got hooked and I'm waiting for more. It brings out the cheesy kiddy side in me hahaa !
And yeah. I thought Joey was a girl at first. Then I saw the picture, but I'm pretty sure that's his parents. Maybe he takes to the mother's side more :P

I feel the same way. Heroman also looks like a robot boss from megaman. xD

Heroman, Heroman... How many times do we have to hear it during the episode! It's cheesy, it's not original but still it looks sexy, basically 24 minutes of eye candy.

BTW I can't stand american cartoon. (Only exceptions... GI-Joe and Transformers Generation 1, yup I'm old)

I'm a bit disappointed that Joey so easily killed the aliens... even if they ARE out to destroy the Earth (i.e. in anime terms "instantly evil"), they are still living beings. I know it's a kid's show and everything, but I would have liked some sort of ambivalence on Joey's part over their deaths. Then again, this anime seems to be painting the Skrugg (?) as one-dimensional, so.

Pretty much my thoughts as well. No amount of pretty colors and moe Joey can make up for how lame this episode was. Just...the way people reacted to the alien invasion, the general stupidity of the cast, Joey being a "hero", the lulzy appearance of the aliens (giant beetles with Sharingan?)...no. I'm out. Dropping this one.

I've been surprised with how the creators have been pretty accurate with the american setting, but they are missing a few things.

1. This is south/central california, there shouldn't be a white person in sight.
2. The students are far too respectful/attentive in class
3. The police are giving warnings rather than shooting on sight
4. That crowd of people watching would have ALL been packing heat, and firing on the aliens before the cops even arrived.

I think you should be familiar with the name Getter Robo at least, as TTGL's director was a fan of it and had a large influence on the series.

But yeah, it would be kinda ignorant, that's why it's sometimes better not to talk when you're not sure of something. You can forget about Demonbane since it's some shitty eroge or something.

But seriously, all I want is that people stop bringing up TTGL in here. Both Heroman and TTGL don't have much in common.

Heroman is a remote controlled robot very much like Giant Robo and Tetsujin 28th.

Yo, when I mentioned it being more epic in scale, I only meant to compare it to TTGL and Heroman and that's all.

You wanted to prove a point to the TTGL fags. So yeah, you did.

I don't care about Heroman being barely similar to TTGL since a lot of mecha animu can be compared anyway. It's very obvious. Although I have it on my favorite list, I know damn well it's not original.

Though this episode was, as MANY others have already pointed out, cheesy....and it still screams "AMERICA!!!" in my face with every frame....and I have a headache from the massive overuse of "Heroman"....it's still Stan Lee...it's still Bones...the story, though simple, is mildly entertaining...the animation is smooth and pleasing...and the music is amazing!!! So I'll continue watching this and hope that there is a bit more development over the coming episodes. Till next episode (^_^)

i honestly felt that i was going to be alone in loving this show.
regardless of how cheesy it is, and how it's more or less just "punch shit in the face until it goes away"... i think it is phenomenal. this is definitely in the running for being my favorite anime of the season. i was a comic book nerd long before i ever discovered anime, and the things that got me into comics in the early 90's were the superhero cartoons i watched on saturday mornings. things like teenage mutant ninja turtles, spider-man, batman, and transformers. this series brings so much to the plate in terms of pure nostalgia for me, and everything about it is unmistakeably the work of stan lee.
haters gonna hate, but if you ever really loved marvel as a kid, and love anime now... this show is fantastic. it has the best of both worlds. i am very much looking forward to more.

This is starting to get on my nerves, mainly for all the unironic cheesiness and genericness, as well as that the characters are beginning to look very one-dimensional.

Also, love the ending: "You saved my sister's life, so I still hate you for no particular reason!"

EDIT: Also, needs moar coffee.
