time for experiments!!!
designing is my greatest weakness because I'm simply not artistic... I cannot determine if it looks good or just plain but as long as it's working then it's good for me.

I'll do my best anyway.

This is fantastic news! MAL has really been needing an overhaul of anime list theming, especially in regards to the previously very unflexible css classes in the HTML.

Great addition, hope you guys keep expanding it, to the point we dont need that weird coding anymore to make some really customized lists.
And it would be cool if you could keep anime list as classic and manga list as modern style, or vice-versa.

If I have something to say, it will be : keep putting the headers in "all anime" mode by default.

Every people's lists using the new design I visited, I was lost when the side color changed.
Is this completed? No, this guy has no anime in watching section. Is there a way to know where we are? Oh wait!

Same here. Also, having to use different colors for each category is a major restriction on custom design.

one step further, nice

now to wait for an easy list editor like the one the old lists had
this one http://myanimelist.net/editprofile.php?go=stylepref&do=edit

also noticed one odd thing, the same css applied to different lists doesn't seem to work
say default, and dark blue, on default it works, and on dark blue it doesn't, why?
the css which don't work on dark-blue are
    a
        {
        color: #66CCFF;
        text-decoration: none;
        }

    a:visited
        {
        color: #FAAC58;
        text-decoration: none;
        }

    a:hover
        {
        color: #ACFA58;
        text-decoration: underline;
        }

they work on the default, but not on the dark-blue, what is different between those two styles? shouldn't they behave the same when using the same css?

I uploaded a background image but the image is cut off when the list begins. Is there any way to make the list transparent so the image can be seen behind it?

Good job, I've always wanted to do this but I can't code.

Definitely agreed. The readability problems from having all the sections blend together are the reason I'm still using the classic theme. Is there currently a way to add list separation into the modern theme via CSS, or are we out of luck for now?

Good job, I've always wanted to do this but I can't code.

Add this into the custom css:
.list-container {
    background-color: rgba(255,255,255,0.1);
}

.list-table > tbody:nth-of-type(2n) {
    background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.1);
}

.list-table > tbody:nth-of-type(2n+1) {
    background-color: rgba(180, 180, 180, 0.1);
}

255,255,255 is the colour in RGB
0.1 is the transparency of the list, 0 being transparent and 1 being opaque.

The first set of code is for the entire container box, while the second and third is for the alternate entries of the list.

Click on the thumbnail of the theme you want to edit.

The new design is pretty neat, but just a little annoyed by the fact that Re-Watching is not sorted together with "Currently Watching", and how ".status-menu-container .status-menu .status-button:after" is above the text rather than below. Otherwise, I love the new animations across the list :)

Yep. Wasted some time around it yesterday and found it was .list-container indeed. Thanks, gonna try the tables as well :)
In te end what i did was to undo customed transparency on hover. The lines are these:

.list-container:hover {
opacity: 1.0;
filter: alpha(opacity=100);
}

/* without ":hover" for general opacity */
Have fun ppl

I did some work on mine to make it responsive, i.e. make it respond to the size of the viewport.

However, the site loads the mobile version of the list by default when viewing it on a phone. Since I designed it to look okay on all screen sizes, it's of courses not desirable to have the mobile version loaded - is it possible to disable this functionality for my list and have the mobile phone the desktop site always by default?

Of course, I can always click on the "Request desktop site" link, but I would like all my friends to see my list design too.

Second problem I faced, was that the site lacks the viewport meta-tag required for responsive sites:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">
Is there any way to add this for my list?

Thanks!

Great job! The CSS editor looks really well made. It reminds me of the interface for a chrome extension I use, Stylebot.

Despite this, I still prefer using the classic @import method so that I can host a stylesheet on my own site, use php and comfortably use Notepad++ instead. But this is definitely a huge improvement over the previous one and will hopefully convince people with CSS knowledge to convert to the new design.

Haven't played around much with it yet, I'll report back if I find any strange behavior.

Shouldn't this thread include a notice about all that crap that popped out on anime/manga pages and how to remove it? Really? Even more obnoxious recommendations and a box full of redundant info in the most visible place? If you don't have any actual work for people doing UI designs, just make them sweep the streets or care for greenery. Anything but letting them try to justify their existence by doing crap like that one after another..

Could you add an option to disable the original CSS?
Support! It's a pain overriding all the MAL defaults. It would be easier to start with a blank slate (at least for extremely custom designs). The amount of "!important"s in the default styling is ridiculous.

I could go into a full rant how that meta viewport nonsense breaks the web (thanks Apple!)... just use "em" as the unit instead of pixels. That's how I got my list to work decently on my phone. You can't get around MAL's browser sniffing though :(
