raven: the problem is that you take it as an offense and everyone else as a joke to laugh about.

what doesn't change it's the fact that they attracted a lot of attantion with this episode, and everyone liked, undependingly of their opinion about if it was a right thing to do or not as a first episode.

personally i think it was,if they did this mid series, at then end or in an after-series ova, i don't think i would've liked it as much.

It's literally all the big time male seiyuu, minus Miyano Mamoru and Suwabe Junichi. :P

Yeah, that was really a Gundam Reference. (precisely, from the movie Char's Counterattack)

As for the anime itself, I'm amazed this was a real surprise in this season. I know the original Osomatsu-kun since a really long time ago and was wondering how they would adapt the humor of a 60's anime/manga series to nowadays standards and they actually managed to nail it by doing something completely different from what I was excpecting. For me it was even funnier because I knew the characters beforehand, tho (but I think people who didn't know Osomatsu-kun before can enjoy this too).

I hope they keep up with the good punchlines from this episode (but I think it'll be kinda lame if they keep overusing references to other anime a lot. The following episodes will take a different line from this one, most probably).

It will, just look at the preview.

as long as it makes me laugh, I don't care if this takes a different direction. (is it just me or the animation looks great as fuck)

No, they need it because it's funny. I like how each of those characters was so cliche and exaggerated and yet true to similar anime. I liked how the episode kept throwing in popular anime tropes and characters and grew worse and worse until it exploded. It reminds me of what the industry does when they adapt these awfully generic light novels or make cookie-cutter shows. Except, now we see how this idea unravels or how these brothers do it badly. It shows you how they try to do something but fail (together) and what some of their characters are like (I'm assuming). If it's not your kind of humour it just isn't, but it's doing more than just shoveling in references.

If it continues like this I'll enjoy it greatly. It's good to see another show try for a Showa feel.

Again it completely overshadowed that it's supposed to be an adaptation. It's meant to have something relevant to the content in the source material, and I don't remember being pure meta is the point of the old series, no matter how it's presented. Sure, we all questioned what's the purpose of doing another adaptation again in this day and age or maybe it's just a bad idea from the start (then why make an anime out of it?) whether or not it's due to the fact that the material just doesn't work anymore (then try! You are the animator!) or the modern general audience just doesn't give a fuck anymore (very likely), but it's not an excuse for you to repeat what you did and good at in other titles that you've worked on. If this is an original anime with completely different characters and story that's meant to be a parody or satire of similar subject then it's doing just fine. But it's not, not when they have to issue an "apology" in the first episode.

This is NOT an adaptation, it's a direct sequel to the original anime. A sequel that's not directly based on the manga because it stopped being published years ago. A sequel that it's going to have its own identity, independent from that of the original series or the manga.

Really? Looked like a typical meteor-about-to-crash scene. Probably just my lack of exposure tho. Is it UC? If so, ZZ or CCA? I haven't watched either of those just yet.
I went back and looked, it was definitely the meteor from chars counterattack

I was planning on giving this a shot cause I've liked a couple of the old anime remade/updated that different studios have done. I was very surprised by how funny that first episode was, this is the surprise show of the season I think.

I do however think that once they start the show for real it will lose a lot of you. The humor will stay though, so I'm game.

lol my thoughts exactly.

I think the way this first ep went ...... may be very different from the rest of the series, which will be disappointing for a lot of us. XD I personally haven't seen the original, so I have no idea what the "real" anime is going to be like.

But the first ep was amusing to say the least. Feel bad for Kamiya Hiroshi's char XD

This ending theme song though.... ahahahahaha.

I watched it after many people claimed it's hilarious, but I guess after reading a few reviews I was too "prepared" for it. It had some few nice gags, for example the one with the meteor or how they fell back into reciting their old catchphrases (which made me somewhat interested into watching some old episodes. I wondered what people in Japan might have called funny back then, maybe it's more understandable in some context...).

But just making references and parodying other genres/anime alone or the absurd mix of it all doesn't make me laugh out loud. I mean, I get what is happening, but it doesn't mean I find it funny. Humor is such an subjective thing, if everybody else likes it it's ok for me. As I said, I may have been too prepared for it so I'll wait for the next episode.

Agreed. I was expecting a decent comedy, but nothing like the first episode. It was better going in blind for sure. I do think this hype will die off though, cause it's going to be just the normal art style from now on it seems and not so over the top. I'm still going to watch it(as I'm sure some others will) cause the writers and comedy are solid, but without the art style changes and parodies I think most will drop it. It will go down as a very memorable first episode though.

While I usually pick my seasonal anime depending on the cover picture, I surely wasn't even considering watching this. But then I saw a part of it and I just had to check it out and I enjoyed it a lot.

At the titan part I was choking. (Literally choking, I've been coughing my lungs out all day and then this happened.)

I really enjoyed all the parodies, but I seriously have no idea what to wait from the rest of the season. At least I will check out the next episode and see if I still enjoy it. I'm expecting a good show. We'll see.

Most of the times it works out surprisingly. Most first episodes are set-up anyway, and if it weren't for the reviews, I wouldn't have started Gakkougurashi! last season, or probably even not watched this episode. But yeah, sometimes it's certainly better to go in blind.
