So like... I dont nessisarily judge an anime by the opening. Its just sometimes when I see or hear an opening I enjoy Im convinced the anime was well worked on and makes me more exited to see the episode. Although I admit there are openings to animes that i skip consistantly due to their unappealing openings in my taste but I have one rule. Every new anime, Every new Arch, Every new Season.. i have to watch the anime opening and ending atleaste once

Anyone else relate? whats your opinion on openings?

Its just stupid to judge an anime on their opening, some anime don't have one like SSY. Openings are there just to set up the mood.

I can like them or dislike them but they don't really have any impact on my score. None at all.

It makes me attached to the show

I sometimes rewatch openings of anime I have watched before and just remember how great it was watching it

A really good opening can really affect my outlook towards a show.

For example, GitS SAC 2nd Gig. Chills everytime.

I generally skip the openings and just close the tab or go onto the next episode when it ends, but some do have some great music and introduce me to the artists that play them. My favorite is opening is that of Basilisk. Ending would probably be Wolf's Rain.

I always skip them.. I wish they took the time to make OP and ED, and invest in the anime instead..

touche~.. although I'd say sometimes for me the opening its self isnt even good its the music. On the other hand I see what you mean when they have a flashy opening when the scenes arent as flashy.. knid of like some parts of Fairy tail

For me, openings set the tone of a series. If the opening is bad, it's a little harder for me to get into it, but it's not a complete deal breaker. I know this may sound petty, but I've put off watching Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin because I really hated the corny death metal opening. My thoughts are basically: "How good can a series be that would put such horrible music in its intro?" I'm not in the mood for that shit right now, but I'll watch it eventually.

I don't judge an anime based on how good was the opening or ending but it is something valuable since most of the time an anime with a good opening also have a good soundtrack.

Whatever it is, I despise it. Rock music with whiny, angsty singers pisses me off.

Whether the opening/ending is good/bad doesn't really mean much to me, they are just there to maybe give the viewers an idea of how the anime is/entertainment before watching the actual show.

Berserk's opening sucked, but I still gave it a 9. That weird pop punk thing with nonsensical "English" lyrics...eugh. But the show rocked, so it didn't matter.

If an opening or ending is bad, then whatever I'll just skip them, but if they're good then it's basically just a nice bonus.

The quality of an opening or ending doesn't affect my judgement/score of a show but I certainly do value really good music. I've actually discovered quite a bit of music that's out of my own personal niched tastes thanks to anime openings, so I can't complain.

If it's good enough it might be reason for me to +1 on the score but if it's terrible I won't subtract a point. OP's and ED's can really set the tone of a show or give that extra dose of impact.

I value them quite a bit. a good opening can get you really excited at the start of an anime and that makes it more enjoyable, sometimes if an opening is good enough I rewatch it just before the anime starts xD

and a good ending kind of sets an atmosphere as you just take in everything that happened in the episode you just watched so I think that's important too.

Well, I found that I'm at first more excited to see the anime if the opening is good - for maybe the first four/five episodes -, but in many cases I start skipping it later on, or at least if I watch several episodes one after another, because there is no need to build up new suspense or curiosity or to help me to get into the series' flow again, if you know what I mean.
Though, I always have to hear an opening song once or twice before being able to judge if I really like it or not. The time I need for that has shortened ever since I started watching anime but it still takes a bit. It's simply because I'm not used to the language, I guess.

As for the endings, I don't really care about them. It's not like they're all bad or anything, there's just no need to listen to them in my opinion. So I don't have much about them to say. ^0^

A typical comment I make to my buddies is "Came for the plot, stayed for the openings".

Even if the show plummeted in terms of plot/character/etc., the OPs and EDs are like a loyalty coupon.

I'm a shallow man, what can I say?

Whether an opening is good or not doesn't determine my judgment of the show. If I'm "marathoning" a show I usually skip the opening after the first few times just so I'm not watching the same thing over and over again.

I usually skip the openings to all anime I watch. I might listen to them if I'm distracted for some reason and can't skip, but openings make no difference in the way I think about an anime.

This. And it sets the tone of the show. I don't usually re-watch series, but I'll rewatch the openings for nostalgia.

Whenever I start an anime, I'll listen to the OP/ED and see if I like them. If I don't, I won't listen to them.
OP/ED's are really just short clips of songs that were put to animation of the show. All they're meant to do is get you ready for the show(OP) and close out the show(ED). Sure, if the OP/ED are good, and fit the show, I'll enjoy the show more.
