THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Wow, that was actually more fun than I had thought. It reminded me of zvezda somewhat but the action was great.

It didn't waste any time at all either with that whether it's the action of the superhero like gimmicks. Overall, a decent start. Kosaka's a cutie. Some of the bikes looks fairly well illustrated imo. Some of the characters' eyes looks weird though.

But animation is awesome, and Mosa fight too.

I'd say it's near impossible NOT to be reminded of Kill la Kill. I'm definitely not entirely sure what's going on "in story" yet, but the show has definitely made me curious. I'm guessing those heart stones are what give the "bests" their powers. Nozomi didn't feel like much of a MC here though, I wonder if she'll be thrust into it by having something bad happen to her sister...

Quite the colourful start! The Mosa and the Mob difference is pretty nice. The Mob's only job is to be blasted away xD

This was rather enjoyable with all those overreactions and its silliness. Such as the robot being in hyper mode already.

Seems like a fun one already!

Crazy, colorful and really fun. The animation for the fighting was ridiculous and everything else looks so fluid as well.

Besides the premise, we got to see hints about a couple of relationships and glimpses at of most of the characters, but its only episode one so story discussion can wait, but they have set some things up.

Episode 1 was awesome and can't wait to meet the others.

Will Maccha Green save the day? Oh it feels like one of those superheroes show which something evil happened and someone will save them, etc.

Okay, umm I was really expecting the anime to be a slice of life of girls riding on bikes, being cool and all, but damn what a freaking episode! Flashy battles, over-exaggerated action, and some funny and moe moments to make up this entire episode. I don't really know the story will work out, but I'm guessing there are conflicts between prefectures, and there is a group in each that are involved in these conflicts.

For now, I'm seeing some interactions from Nozomi and very few on Yukino. Nozomi is cute, and her voice is sweet, like Chiyo from GSNK (both voiced under same VA). It looks like she wants to help Masami. I don't know about the relationship between the two, but I'm guessing a sister-kind. About Yukino, well not much can be seen from her, but I know that she wants to talk to the people of Hiyoshicho Propellers. Heh, she was invited in quickly - is the squad desperate for people to join?

Gas-mask-chan is being mysterious, hue.

Anyway, a good watch indeed from WIT Studio's new anime. I'm having high hopes for this anime to be great.

So basically, Japan is split into perfectures, and there's a president + captain running each perfecture. The "Best" seems interchangeable with the captain, but we'll see more of what it means to be a "Best" and what it means to be a captain (the stone prolly has something to do with it).

And fights come up naturally like gang fights, fighting for territory.

A pretty interesting premise, although it reminds me of Kill la Kill. A little too flashy to be considered "slice-of-life" but hey it's probably the first slice-of-life with such amazing fighting animation. An okay start. Not mindblowing, but not bad either.

Well I sure didn't expect that. Yeah, the Kill la Kill similarities are pretty noticeable, though this isn't ecchi and over-the-top. Should still be a fun ride regardless, we just shall see.

The ramen showdown was great, lol.

liked the yuri undertones, but the green suit just felt so childish like watching power rangers & the fights lacked intensity... for a slice of life? i will have to humbly decline on this one

I feel like his show is trying to be like Kill la Kill, but fails at it pretty badly. It just doesn't feel quite right to me. It's more like a lot of different "popular" anime tools and themes stuck together with the intention of making something awesome, but instead you get something completely random. Like you know moe girls + somewhat epic battles + explosions + motorbikes + superheroes (power rangers rip-off...) + post-apocalyptic Japan + magic + a weird human value system + gang fights sort of thing. You know what I mean? Sure, it's just the first episode, but it didn't really appeal to me much.

It looks interesting, to say the least. I was expecting a CGDCT SoL, but was greatly taken by surprise. I'm not expecting anything major out of this, it still has a lot of time to scale up or down. I really hope we get at least one decent underlying theme out of this.

I'm pretty sure the narrator from the opener was voiced by Tomokazu Seki. It actually fitted in greatly with the over-the-top atmosphere. The rivarly between Kuniko and Machha Green is very entertaining. Not sure what to think of the other characters so far. Loving the color palette as well.

That was seriously weird. Literally nothing made sense. On top of that, the exposition in the first fight scene was really clumsy and handled awfully. The fight scenes are presented in quite an unusual way.

If nothing else, this should end up being quite fun.

I love the color pallete and OST as well.

So basically this a a Slice of Life anime about street gangs that are publicly accepted.
And that rule small states.

Well i have to say it looked interesting and it's not your average anime from how it looks so far.
The environment and the drawing style makes me thing of FLCL a bit, and the crazy setting seems to resemble it as well.

Oh man, that was so awesome. This show is right up my alley. It's hyper stylistic, brightly colored, fun, well animated, fantastic art, and action packed. The characters were really cool too, and I loved this crazy world they're in. My only issue was that there was so much going on on screen, and the subs were moving so fast, it was hard to read and I felt like I missed a lot when I was reading. Hopefully it'll get dubbed in the future.

This is my first 5/5 first episode of the season so far. I cannot wait to see more.

God, this one's really trying to be quirky. I expected something a lot more serious, but nah-- it seems convoluted and dull stories are what sell these days. The characters are pretty bad, too, but it's only been an episode.

People are being reminded of Kill la Kill because the animation director/character designer worked with Gainax quite a bit. Style over substance, but I'll keep watching it for the animation.

The only thing this show and KLK have in common is that they are parodies of superhero manga.

Very fun beginning, liked the stagehands running around in the background helping both sides, liked the patented "overlooking the obvious" gags, liked that there are obviously rules that everyone but the audience knows (and which will be explained). Looking forward to see what happens next.

People who attended the pre-screening said that the first two episodes are like a huge introduction and the real stuff would start on the 3rd. Would use the three-episode rule here. On the other hand, WIT studio fucking delivered here, love those colorful BGs and dayumm, those over-the-top yozakura-esque animation. Can't wait for the next episode!

Considering the title is Rolling Girls, there was a severe lack of rolling; didn't care much for the fight, would have preferred more motorbike scenes. Wasn't all that engaging to be honest, it definitely has potential with the worldbuilding, vibrant colors and promising characters, but it will have to deliver hard to be good. 3/5.

To anyone who didn't understand what was going on, I direct you to pakoko's post.

Aversa said:

I think it's more along the lines of "fighting via representation"; instead of all-out wars, these miniature countries have representatives fight out the conflicts in their stead. It keeps the overall casualties down and still allows for settling strong disagreements.

Anyway, it turned out better than I expected. There's plenty of room for a good plot, worldbuilding, and characterization. The fighting scenes were wacky, like something out of a fighting game, but I liked them. (As an aside, I think those moonlight stones are somehow their power source.) The food scene became more humorous as it progressed.

It's different. I definitely plan on watching more to see how this turns out.
