Use your own words. =)

Okay, okay picky person.

A person who enjoys watching anime and seeks to watch more after finishing.

Maybe they were tied up and forced to watch it.

The anime fan is a maniac product of the modern era's bourgeois decadence and internet engagement. Known for perversion, awkward social interaction, obsessive behaviours, and other unpleasant habits, it is no wonder that the anime fan is often seen as a denomination of derision. It is perhaps interesting to note that the anime fandom is also a somewhat contradictory group - home to a dichotomy of conservative, regressive, small-minded and sectarian views, yet at the same time, the wider demographic group of the non-ethnic japanese can also be seen to be embracing a foreign culture - an act of benevolence? Surely not. Simply, it is a desperate clinging onto a delusion of purpose.

In fact, it is this fetishisation of an exotic and rarefied medium that defines the anime fan. Through the extraordinary pursuit of a foreign sub-culture and entertainment product, the anime fan adopts a lifestyle of peculiar and unnatural mannerisms. The preferences that grow amongst those affected can often be subtle, but in their pronounced interest in 'anime' the fan becomes increasingly detached from the realities of the world. It is almost a certain fate that if an anime fan does not find a way to disengage from this alien paradigm, then they will fall into a state of psychological, emotional, and functional disrepair. In time, the anime fan will no longer be an upstanding citizen and human being, but will in fact degrade to a parasitic troglodyte of the digital age.

The anime fan, in the end, is but a pitiful creature.

Well this guy likes anime a lot but it doesn't mean he get it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xA0ZHEwU2Q

A true anime fan is one who understands what differs anime from the other mediums of entertainment and art. And find these unique qualities enjoyable.

Anime Zone made an awesome video on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryzAJqGDz40
He talks about anime becoming mainstream but Anime Fan is a big topic too

We should not over interprete the term "anime fan"

The term fan does only means that we enjoy it and stay that as one of our hobbies. Therefore anime fans do enjoy anime. Nothing more, nothing less.

While I could view an anime fan as someone who simply likes anime, experience around certain anime fans has tarnished that connotation. To me, an anime fan cannot think on their own, backpedals off people who might seem bright but deep down are empty and shallow, often bashes popular series to inflate his/her ego, uses endless buzzwords to stand out, and shitposts relentlessly to fit in with his or her friends. It's like talking to a drone, and it's only fun to be around anime fans when no one is exposed in the slightest.

I just watch anime to pass time and enjoy the ride I'm given even if it falls short, not to do anything of the above unless I'm on the blog known to CNN tech analyst Brett Larson as 4chan, have a nice day, have a nice day.

A real, true anime fan first and foremost doesn't rob the industry he/she is openly pretending to enjoy and support. Piracy is an absolute no-go.

A true anime fan doesn't have to care about his/her MAL being up to date or "as big as others", it doesn't matter if you watched all the latest shows because more than often that's either not feasible or possible through legal means.

You can guess yourselves how many people in this community are actually fans and actually stand up and help the community and the industry alike to grow.
Internet-piracy is the cancer of Anime, leechers need to get caught and die out!

I like watching anime, but I wouldn't call myself an anime fan. Same goes for the NBA. I like watching it and tracking stats, but I couldn't call myself a fan, because I don't give a rat's ass most of the year until playoffs, anyway.
