Lately I've noticed a huge increase in deredere characters which featured in the center of spotlight. Whether a main heroine, second heroine or even a protagonist. So, does this means society has increased demands on character which doesn't act violently towards their main love interest?

Some which caught my eyes during this season alone are: Kobeni, Uka-sama, Takao (yes she has tsundere lines but she didn't act like ones), Hiyori, and of course Onodera. And all of them are in the main casts.

So, are you those who were also got swept in the middle of deredere waves? Or is it still inferior compared to your favorite tsundere? Or perhaps you don't even care about character tropes? Or are you perhaps likes deredere more since early days of your ani/manga life began? Also, which one is your favorite tsun/dere character? Let me hear your thoughts.

note: The reason why I'm using tsundere as comparison is because it is still the most popular tropes in the ani/manga industry even as a joke characters or as a joke act.

Most tsundere's are horribly done in my opinion, whereas more deredere's tend to be designed better on average. The lack of bakax6 and physical abuse whenever something happens are welcome in tsundere's for me. Deredere's may bore people, but if they are given interesting quirks, a unique personality or some other way to distinguish them from just being a cute character, then they can be equally pleasing to watch as well. I personally love both, but deredere's are definitely my type of characters.

I used to be pretty damn tsundere like five years ago or so myself. As far as which I prefer in others it depends entirely on the character.

I'm agree with you. Most tsundere were done horribly that it annoys me most of the time, and the dere sides didn't really worth it. Deredere sounds better, maybe the author didn't project himself (or ideal-self) when writing them.

Or actually, most side characters are better than main because they don't get enough projection from the author, and deredere is a side character most of the time.

What's a romance without bickering and quarreling? It's like eating food without spice, boring.

I'm not talking about serious conflicts, just everyday quarreling. There is and should be no reason for it other than the characters simply being themselves. I'm not into shoujoesque melodrama.

I see, perhaps you ever know Souta and Mahiru as an example everyday quarrel ≠ tsun attitude. Another one is Akihito and Mirai. Or even Hitagi and Koyomi. Or even Mashiroiro symphony, If you're asking for spice without tsun.

From my part, I've been tsundere fans since Akane from Ranma 1/2. But it really gets old as of today, there are countless Kugimiya clones. The only one worth mentioning is perhaps palmtop Taiga. As a newtype, I choose Kayano Ai over Taketatsu Ayana.

At least in series with serious or dramatic qualities, I like complex characters regardless of archetype. The tsundere archetype can work well in these situations, especially if the underlying reasons for the character's behavior are explored and/or if additional layers of complexity are built upon the basic formula. As of this writing, the character pictured in my avatar is this type - Touko from Maria-sama ga Miteru. Her background and personality are explored in great detail, so the viewer (or reader of the light novels) comes to understand why she is a tsundere.

In comedies, exaggerated or silly tsundere characters can be entertaining since their antics help to drive the humorous situations. Yuru Yuri features three very entertaining tsundere girls, all of whom could probably be classified as different sub-types of the archetype. This series is self conscious of this trope and plays it quite effectively for laughs.

I wouldn't say that I always prefer tsundere characters over other types, but when well executed, they can definitely add to a series. The same is true, however, for straightforward nice and sweet types, and also for truly disturbing types like the yandere.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Tsundere's can be more entertaining to watch but overdone. Deredere can be more lovable. There should be more deredere's who get close on the same person the tsundere is into and piss off the tsundere for being able to be more emotionally open. I dont mean passive aggressively but straight up fight. Then feel bad and fall for the deredere instead.

You know, the kind whose entire existence is impossible to describe completely in one word. Like, the kind that takes actual effort and talent to write. Characters that feel like actual real people, not "anime characters".

Real life tsundere is pain in the arse to deal with. It was almost like they expect their partner to be able to read their mind.

In Keima's language: their parameter is too low, their flag is hard to notice, real is suck.

Classic: "Tsundere is a Japanese character development process which describes a person who is initially cold and even hostile towards another person before gradually showing their warm side over time. This change of behavior is permanent, and that's where the classic tsundere type is different form the modern tsundere."

Modern: "A variation of the tsundere personality type which has the tsundere character switch between hostile and lovestruck personalities often, which is in contrast to the classic tsundere type where the change is gradual and permanent."

Oh. It's permanent! Why would they move away from the classic then?! That seems like a much better way of having a Tsundere character. Then again I think I haven't seen anime where it has a classic one in it.
