but wowwww i didnt expect roy to become blind ahhhhhhh when the "father" was listing how everyone ironically lost so much because they tried human transmutation, roy was totally the worst off, edward al and izumi all did it for their own purposes yet roy was forced through it and now lost his sight.....
feel so srry for him >.<

1. Why did Roy lose something when he wasn't even the one performing the transmutation?
2. Why would Al reject his body, even if it did mean not being able to fight for a time, when he knows damned right that being able to come back to get it would mean opening the gate again by causing something terrible to happen? (That's what his body meant when saying "Your return will bring nothing but despair and ruin").
3. Is Roy going to rely on Riza to "be his eyes", and let rip that pun the manga so frequently makes reference to? (cause she's a sniper and watching his back, get it?) Hell, is she going to die or somehow sacrifice herself in a way which allows Roy to have her eyes transplanted into his head? Because that would be the ultimate irony, and pure genius. Will that transmutation circle on her back have anything to do with that process?
4. Wouldn't it be ironic that since Roy is aspiring to be the Fuhrer, if he were able to acquire the "all-seeing eye" from Bradley after his defeat? Because that would be made of win, and would obviously solve his eye problem... From the very person he was looking to replace. Unfortunately it would probably mean he would have to become a homunculus, but probably a human one that ages, like Bradley. I'd have no argument with that. It's not like he'd be much different. Besides, that already turned one main character into one, what's one more?
5. Maybe defeating Father would be the key to getting back what everybody's lost so far (although unlikely), allowing us to enjoy a happy ending?

Who knows. Awesome chapter though.

That was awesome of him. Really. To give up something he's wanted for so long...

And man, Roy losing his eyesight was just brutal. Very unexpected. I thought he'd lose something like an arm.

Great chapter, as always. Arakawa is brilliant.

Too bad for Roy. Wonder if he can transmute with a circle. Most likely. Awesome when Al met his body then wanted to go back with his body armor.

Ok so we all know that father wants people who have seen the truth and gone through the gates for his sacrifice, the question is why and what will he achieve.

Maybe he is some sort of outcast ( he is black and truth is white) and gathering 5 persons who have gone through the gates will be able to give him all the info he needs to open a doorway and dethrone or kill truth and become god or truth himself.

What does everyone think of my theory or was it too obvious?

To be completely honest, I think it's too shallow. I'm expecting this to turn out somewhat deeper..
But I wouldn't know now would I? ^^; Good theory nevertheless : p
Protip: I don't really check the forums anymore, so if you want something, take it on my profile.
Is it time for my long-awaited return to the forums? щ(゚Д゚щ) Nope™, probably not.

What else could father want?

Is there anything beyond the lust for power that he might want, is there something beyong wanting to become a god or truth himself.

Could he be an old spirit of a human who wants to retrieve a dearly beloved person to himself and be the first to successfully do human transmuation.

Or maybe retrieve somethng of himself that he lost to truth.

So many ways this manga could go.

I think we all agree Hiromu Akawa is a fucking genius.
Despite the depressing change of events, she never ever ever messed up one chapter in the whole goddamn series. You gotta praise the guy, all her villains got a fucking background. And all her characters are awesome. I've never seen this before. How can she think of so many things at once? (And thank god it's not the main-character-glory type of shounen, everyone gets their part with some sort of intelligent deep reason). And characters keep dying reasonably when you least expect it (that's awesome :) I like to be surprised and not see everyone surviving with a deus ex effect, getting out unscathed) Shit, this is just genius. I couldn't expect more of her.

And mustang going blind, that was just powerful. Hands down.

It takes a special kind of storyteller to give you something that's totally shocking and yet makes complete sense in retrospect. Arakawa has done that -many- times in this series.

Seriously, I was so sad when his eyesight was lost. At first I didn't think he took anything but then when he asked if the lights were out I was like </3
When he was stumbling around and tripped over that cord...god, that was so sad. T_T

And Al giving up his body just to keep fighting? Like everyone else said, this has to be the most depressing chapter ever.

"Who will be remembered forever as the one who took my life?"
I don't like the guy but I will not deny it. That was extremely badass.

Well I thought that he was going to lose one eye, remember this...

But God Damn, he actually lost his whole sight! :S

I didn't like Al ditching his body though, I mean who really needs a strong body when you can wield alchemy? Very kind gesture but dumb at the same time. Father (Who is starting to look a lot la Venom) has all the pieces in place now, let's see what he will do next.

Who needs alchemy when you're too weak to react on the enemy's attack in time anyway? I doubt he could even walk quickly, not to mention fight effectively xP

It's such a comfort to know all of you people freaked out and spazzed and fear blindness like I do, jeez. Reading the chapter discussions sometimes helps make the shock go away. T_T;;;

Roy has totally grown to be one of my favorite characters; he's such a badass. And now he doesn't have the eyes to see his dream realized when he becomes the Fuhrer and changes things for the better... I seriously had to stop mid chapter and gape for a good few minutes.

I figured he wasn't going to lose any limbs because there was so much emphasis on that, plus it didn't feel fitting since Ed and Al have done that already... and then I thought about what they could take away from him, and my gut just told me his eyesight which freaked me out to the point I hoped it wouldn't come true so I was even more flabbergasted when it actually was.

Blindness is scary. Poor Roy. And I spent so much time freaking out over that, that I felt somewhat emotionally numb when Al actually came face to face with his body. I was so frustrated that he left it, but I understand his reasoning... Al, you amazing boy, you...!!

This manga still has so much potential for only a few chapters left to go and I'm freaking out and loving it so hard throughout the entire thing...!!

Oh crap, Mustang is blind? Although that is probably still alot better than losing your entire body or your organs . . . Anyways I wonder who that body in front of Al's door really is ... I get the feeling it isn't his actual body, or that something else is inside of it.

The truth is cruel. A pair of brothers who abandoned reason and tried to ressurect their departed mother, seeking her warmth once more... One loses a leg to stand on and his only remaining family, the other the ability to feel the warmth he so desesperately missed. A woman who tried to take back her dead child, only to end up with a body that will never again nurture the seed of life. A man with a grand vision to save his country loses his eyesight, forever unable to see what his beloved nation will become..

This is why I love this so much. This manga is purely a masterpiece.

And Al is putting his body on hold. May the fight of the namless warriors begin.

How does Al's body speak if his body is separated from soul? Is it Truth? Seems like a plot hole to me.
