Gah, I put Soul Eater on hold because I always enjoy these long shounen action series when I watch them in batches, so my ext HD is sad because of all of the HD Soul Eater episodes I'm filling it with. Your praise of Soul Eater might end up wrecking my curve, I'm aiming for 15-20 episodes, so I'll probably marathon half of the series come fall.
And your second point is true; when I first watched KyoAni's Air TV a little over a year ago, I didn't really understand what people were saying about its animation sometime later until I rewatched it. Likewise, I rewatched Haruhi not long ago, so it's pretty fresh on my mind.
The thing about the band scene, though, is that (I don't know if you've seen many series that had musical instruments being played) you don't see instruments being played often because of the work required to animate them, and even so, animators often loop scenes or use stills. Rarely, if ever, do studios actually animate the instrument as they're being played; a recent example I noted is the Maria-sama ga Miteru OVA's, where one hand of a pianist was playing the correct notes to Fur Elise (which is rather well-known). Haruhi and her band played an original piece, not to mention Yuki's guitar, which, as far as I know, was even playing the correct notes. Most people call the band scene at least OVA quality, and considering that KyoAni's typical quality is above most other studios, it's saying a lot.
And yes, Baccano! is just great. My first time through, I had no idea what was happening during the first few episodes, but it had come together so well by the end of the series that I was simply amazed. A rewatch is almost a requirement to get the full impact of the series, too.

But you gave Soul Eater a 10 for animation, ;_;
Soul Eater's fights have nothing on the fluidity and detail of say, Haruhi's concert scene or the Yuki-Asakura battle.

I agree that Soul Eater's production values (at least animation-wise) are hard to match by most series nowadays, but it doesn't compare to KyoAni's better work.

I was honestly quite confused by all the positive commotion surrounding Haruhi. Even on ANN, it received masterpiece ratings, so I didn't want something like that to slip by me. In the end, the anime was difficult for me to watch; although, I was intrigued just a couple times by the concerns regarding Haruhi. -sigh- You really worded my thoughts on it quite well, so I had to say something. =)

Keep writing those awesome reviews! I added Soul Eater to my plan-to-watch list solely because of your review. So I shall be watching that soon. ^.^

Have a great day~!

-random- Hello, I just wanted to say that I completely agree with your review on The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It made me really happy to finally see someone else who thought the same of it as I did. Thanks for writing the review! It made complete sense to me, and I couldn't have written it any better.

For some reason I've been doing this more often, but...

Aside from the fact that I loved it because of its personal influence (it's the series that first really had me interested in broadening my anime tastes), nice review for Haruh, not overly praising the series nor openly flaming iti.
Except for the animation part... 7? eh.

We have pretty high compatibility, too. Nice.

Hmm, it's been 9 months and I've never written on your profile. So now I have.
