Well, because he didn't write the stories for Death Note, Bakuman, or Hikaru no Go. DN and Bakuman are written by Ohba, and HnG by Hotta. He just did the art, hence the praise for his art. I agree with someone else on here who mentioned he should move on to seinen.

Why is only his art being addressed? His writing is SO amazing. And to Maora, he did the story for Death Note, Bakuman, Cyborg Grandpa-G, and probably some others. Amazing person. -Favorited.

His character designs are unique an in my opinion prolly one of the best ones out there. From Death Note to Bakuman, Obata's art makes the manga more appealing. I'm kurious if he'll eva do the storyboard for a manga.....either way he's one of my favorite mangaka
