This topic on fixing your covers part of our Customizing your list section and Tools and Tips section.

All Cover Generators
Blink! * Genku * MalCat * Fellow Writer * MAL-Image * MAL Tool

This is intended for using Genku by Hahaido to fill in the missing DVD or manga covers on your list. If your list doesn't have covers and you want some, get a layout that has covers, or see our directory on adding DVD and manga covers: Covers directory

Step 1: Find what kind of cover CSS your list has
Genku makes different kinds of cover CSS and will ask you what kind you need for your layout. You need to know what kind of covers your layout uses; if you don't know use the instructions in the spoiler below.

Step 2: Download and open the generator
Go to the official page for Genku and download it:
http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=442261

It will download in .zip format. Your computer should have Winrar or a similar program on it to extract the files. Right click the file that downloaded and choose "Extract to Style..." as seen here. After that the program and files will be in the same folder as here.

If you're having trouble:

Step 3: Start generator and make the right CSS for your list

Look in the new folder made in step 2 for program named 'Style' (its a Death Note icon). Click on it and choose "Run" if it asks. Put your username in, hit Go, then choose the type of CSS you need (more or animetitle) and hit Go again. Hit the Export button when its done.

If you can't figure it out I outlined how with visual examples:

Step 4: Open a Dropbox account, upload the CSS and get a direct link to it
Go to Dropbox.com and make an account. Its free. Upload the CSS file you generated to the home page there.

Right click the newly uploaded file. Choose the option "Share Link" (circled below) and go to the new tab it opens.
http://i.imgur.com/3xN1zxZ.jpg

Close the pop up window with the X on it, shown below. This isn't for what we're doing. You need to copy the URL address after closing the pop-up, as boxed in red. This is what we need.
http://i.imgur.com/rGrh4gs.jpg

Step 5. Paste the direct link URL into your CSS edit box and make it a proper import

Done. Save, and check list.
When you're done, save your CSS and the imported CSS should be visible on your list. Make sure you deleted any old import you're replacing (like default cover CSS imports for example) otherwise you may be linking clashing CSS and have problems later.

Check your list to see if the CSS worked. If not, see Problems below. You can also try the Troubleshooting section in the Import tutorial:
http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=411779

To update your covers in the future
Simply repeat step 3 and export a new CSS. Upload it to Dropbox and replace the previous file. It will update the covers on your list here!

Problems? Questions?
If your import link isn't working right you probably misread a step in this tutorial. Make sure you have the right CSS type for your list (more or animetitle) as outlined in step 1. Also make sure you generated CSS for the correct list you're customizing (anime or manga list).

If its still not working you can ask in this topic!

Alternative solutions and generators
If this isn't working for you, try any of the other cover generators linked at the top of the post, or see the main thread on fixing your covers to see all solutions:
https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=443333

Original Topic with additional options
The original thread for the program can be found here, it has additional options and CSS you can generate:

For some reason Hahaido's generator only pulls 482 titles from my animelist, but the list holds 487 titles.
Using the one from u531355 will correctly recognize all 487 titles, but this generator works extremely slowly.

Would you happen to know why Hahaido's generator doesn't recognize all titles?

Look at your 'Anime Stats'. It says that you have 482 titles. But you added some titles recently and they dont appear in your stats. That's a glitch of MAL database. When your statistic will show 487 titles, use the app again

Hahaido's version looks faster because it uses a database.
The problem of the database is that it won't get updated automatically, so you need to wait for Hahaido to release a new version of the program with an updated database.
(some pictures get deleted on MAL)

My program is given without database, but it actually uses anime.css and manga.css as a database if it exists in the program's folder. So you can download http://dl.dropbox.com/u/49469857/MAL/premade/anime.css and http://dl.dropbox.com/u/49469857/MAL/premade/manga.css
and if you want to update it, you don't need to wait for a program update. You just run the program with no username.

I guess it pulls data in a different way or something?

Thanks for clarifying that for me.

Our apps have different algoritms. My app getting a number of titles from the profile stats and use it to calculate iterations amount. And u531355 app works without that number

Hey there! I went through the tutorial and had everything going for me, except that my blank covers aren't replaced.

I just started using this Square Layout (http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=459189), and after taking a look at my anime list, I noticed a couple of my covers were blank. So, I went through this tutorial, but in the end, it still doesn't work. Instead I end up with a weird result that tells the CSS-inexperienced-me, that I've made a minor mistake along the way.

Here are pictures of what I end up with:

This is what it looked like before I added the import link:

As you can see, pictures have been added, but they just don't seem to have gone the right place... Any idea what I did wrong?

Sure thing.

Okay, this is weird... Now, nothing has changed. No peculiar little picture inside the title box of any anime. I tried switching it out with .animetitles instead, and THEN it shows that little picture in the title box...

Here's the .animetitle CSS:

I think I use #more CSS.

If you're using own generated covers then you need to delete default covers import line or replace it:

Hmmm, .animetitle for Square layout? Well-well... If you really sure you need .animetitle instead of .hide then look how this realized here:

Aww sweet, that did it!

It is the #more code I have to use, I just put the generated covers CSS in the wrong place, like you said :) Thanks a bunch!

You use sharing through your dropbox now, not public folders, they are no longer available for free like before. You don't have to pay to make links ever and its very easy, see my import tutorial.

Hello using Lirina's profile so not quite sure what I'm doing wrong while trying to do my own covers.

I'm having trouble, while I [think] did exactly everything right, my list ended up looking like this? http://oi58.tinypic.com/2drtfud.jpg
It seems that my covers ended up behind the title texts instead of where they're actually supposed to go. Any help would be appreciated!

Here is my code:

1. You need regular "more CSS" for Lirina's list design (see the pic). You made "more:after". Regenerate it again. Can you tell me why you made this type and not the regular one? (I'm trying to figure out why ppl are making the wrong kinds)

2. You left off at step 4. You have to edit it how I told you in step 5, but since you made the wrong CSS for your list in the first place, you have to regenerate it again and reupload the new one you make (it must be regular more CSS this time, not more:after or :before).

You probably generated the wrong CSS for the list. You made animetitle CSS, I think you need to make regular more CSS for that list (as in the previous post). Can you tell me why you made "animetitle" instead of "regular more"?

Hi, my list uses this code "#list_surround table:nth-of-type(n+4) tbody:hover .animetitle[href*="/22729/"]:after { background-image: url("http://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/anime/7/60263.jpg");}"

How can i generate covers using this code? I know this generator can do it because i've done it before but i haven't use it lately and forgot how to do it.

When i use the generator i get this part ".animetitle[href*="/22729/"]:after { background-image: url("http://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/anime/7/60263.jpg");}"

but cant figure out how to get this part "#list_surround table:nth-of-type(n+4) tbody:hover");}

put

at the top of your css replacing any older cover import.

Sorry to be bumping this, but since the Blink cover generator was giving me errors I turned up to this one, but it's not working either.

I'm getting an "Invalid username" error, I even tried changing my username to something else so it would work but it didn't, is there another way around this?
