Excellent point. There have been far too many useless sequels lately, for shows that really do not deserve them. It's either an attempt to milk the franchise (though I don't know how some franchises could be milked, since there's nothing going for them in the first place), or it's just some irrational decision based on a drunken whim...or something.
I think you'll find it's not strictly 'sequels' as they're just splitting a standard two-cours (24-26 ep) storyboard in half, and giving a seasonal break or so between airing each one. It's not like they suddenly decide to make the second part later on, but rather generally planned from the beginning.
I was reading an article about it last year how numerous studios (or rather, sponsors) have moved to this method for several reasons; including being able to give the studios and staff a 'break' to work on other projects, advertising (let word of mouth etc speak of first half, hopefully raise sales of second), and there is the occasional series that bombs on its first half so isn't continued, thus saves them loss of the second. Talking from a purely financial point of view, in DVD/merch sales, not just moe/ecchi trash we all hate, but sells well to otaku (profit is key here). There are other reasons but those three are the main ones.
Well there you go, I never thought of it that way. Still, it makes you wonder why some studios choose to go on with that second 'season', when the first one was so terrible (Asura Cryin (I haven't actually seen it, just basing this off general reception)).seishi-sama said:BigSimo said:tehnominator said:
The Mars of Destruction jokes haven't died as yet, I see.
Who doesn't like making fun of bad shows? I mean, when the creators make them, it's obviously not for people to praise them, but rather to include them in various jokes on web forums. Well, that's how I see it.
Mars of Destruction isn't even an actual anime. It's just a video that was included in the PS2 game package as a free bonus. And making fun of it isn't really intelligent.
You mean isn't an actual series. It's still an anime, just a one episode OVA. And I never said it was intelligent; it's just fun.
