Not a masterpiece, but pretty damn close to being one. I'LL MISS YOU HYOUKA!! AND THE CLASSICS CLUB!!! T^T 9/10 for me.

Theorized by my brother and myself, there's probably going to be a movie. And by "probably" I mean most likely. Look at it this way:

Haruhi had a disappointing ending, only to be followed up by a 2nd season, leading into a full-feature film.

K-On season 1 & 2 both ended on a soft note, leaving us unsatisfied until the movie was announced and released. The movie gave the series a proper, expanded ending to the original.

Hyouka ended nicely, but without much impact. There's only 1 volume left; volume 5 is the largest out of the entire series. They'd be completely stupid to leave SUCH a large chunk of a story out! Henceforth, all hints lead to there being a full-feature film for Hyouka in production, presumingly adapted off the 5th and final novel.

Until then, bring on Chuunibyou!

So they ended it without Oreki and Chitanda getting together? This is a great anime, really. But why do ALL good animes end with disappointing endings? They just seem to never finish the whole entire thing. -sigh- If there's a movie, at least end it with Oreki and Chitanda going out. I don't know what happened in the 5th volume of the LN but I want to know.

However, the author say he will continue to write about Chitanda and Oreki after they graduate from highschool.I hope he write at a faster pace and we will see season 2

Do You have any link to confirm that? I trust You, but I want to see it with my own eyes! (I made an account here to ask for that! ;-) )

I loved this series and everything about Hyouka. Too bad that this is the end of 1st Season :( I never really cheer any pairing, but in Chitanda x Oreki case - I made an exception.

Ending was 100% Hyouka-like. Although I wanted them to kiss, I knew that this would be too fast for them. This relationship can come this far, because they are really slow with it. And I think that 1 too fast kiss can totally ruin that (although I still wanted them to kiss!)

I will miss You, Hyouka ;( Mondays without You will not be the same. Somewhere I can't believe that this is really the last episode ;( I think this show is perfect in every way. Without a doubt third place on my list (after Bleach and K-On) and:

10/10

PS. And I think that Seiyuus were just perfect. Satomi Satou as Chitanda, Kayano Ai as Mayaka, Nakamura Yuuichi as Houtarou, Sakaguchi Daisuke as Satoshi... It just couldn't be better.

See ya in Season 2!

Wow.....it is over. Is this series really over? I refuse to accept it! Not because I didn't like the ending, but because I don't want it end. I want more Hyouka, darn it! I hope the last LN gets some sort of animation. 22 episodes/4 light novels=About 5 or 6 episodes. Looking at it that way, I would kinda be afraid a full movie would skip out on some parts. I see there are about 6 chapters in volume 5. Maybe some OVAs, or something? I just hope for more.

Just focusing on this last episode, it was awesome! After the craziness of last episode, everyone seems to have settled down and everything seems to be working out. Eru was as cute as ever this episode. I think at this point it's obvious that Oreki has fallen for her. Why couldn't he of actually said that at the end, that would of been amazing. And the whole last scene with the cherry blossoms was beautiful.

Overall, I quite enjoyed this series. KyoAni has completely yet another great series. I really liked it and got sucked in to just about every episode. I'm really going to miss it and I hope for some sort of continuation in the future. 9/10 Great, great series.

kinda bummed about how they handled the whole satoshi/mayaka situation though :[[ "normal" is way too vague URGHHH
guess we'll never know whatever satoshi said to mayaka during that one phone call

i was gonna give this a 7, but i'll make it an 8 for fleshing out satoshi & oreki's characters really well ; v ;

I really enjoyed this series.

I would have liked it even more if the episode had ended with a kiss, instead it felt a little anti-climatic to me. When Oreki said he would take care of her business but it turned out to be his imagination, that did get a rise out of me. I was a little disappointed that he didn't say anything.

Still, loved the series and one I would use to show people who are getting into anime.

The ending is basically exactly as it should be. He's not quite ready for a confession but the big deal is that he's harboring those thoughts in the first place and that he almost did it

Take into account the difference between this and the first episode

This anime probably is the anime with the best animation quality of that year (yes, even better than Fate/Zero!) the ending was appropriate given the tone and the feel it adopted, though i gotta admit i was let down that Oreki's proposal was just inside his mind (i was kinda thinking they would be able to do ending like Ufotable did with Kara no Kyoukai...just show them holding hands or something!!!) still a very well-done anime and overall the second best series of the year after Fate/Zero....

I would have liked a kiss at the end, but I have to admit, the two of them aren't really going fast on the relationship route.

My jaw dropped when Oreki friggin' PROPOSED to chitanda (even though it was just in his mind). This means they got a relationship level up, too. They both are aware of their own feeling and at least somewhat aware (in the back of their minds) of the other's feelings.

From this point on, I consider them an item, even if they haven't really said so. They are basically in a relationship already, just without the kissing and "I love you" and all.

As for the rest of this episode: Exceptionally good artwork again, and I liked the music as well. Same goes for this whole series.

I cannot help it but give it a 10/10. Hyouka will be missed =/
Hoping for S2, Movie, OVA, ANYTHING. My life is incomplete with out it.

Damn, that was an incredibly beautiful and immensely satisfying conclusion; likely the best episode of the entire series.

The relationship between Oreki and Chitanda has developed in a very satisfying manner, becoming one of the best aspects of the show. As such, Oreki and Chitanda's relationship took center focus throughout this episode, and it was, once again, fantastic, despite the somewhat open ending. They complement each other extremely well, due particularly to their great chemistry. Their final conversation was amazing, and a perfect sequence to close the series on. It drew on so many elements of their developed characters, particularly the contrast in stature and class between the two of them, resulting in a rather significant portion of insight into Chitanda's state of mind. That entire conversation was framed beautifully, with a strikingly colorful aesthetic that effectively highlighted the distinctly extensive change that had taken place in Oreki, and how significant his feelings had become for Chitanda. I thought his "confession" strongly mirrored the scene in the very first episode where his imagination creatively portrays an illusion in which her vines entangle him.

As utterly brilliant as the Festival arc was, I’d have say that these last few episodes have, surprisingly, been even better, as they’ve fully delved into the characters, delivering a satisfying pay-off to all the bits of small character development that filled the earlier parts of the story. The pacing of this episode was quite excellent, effortlessly balancing the complex workings of the procession with the more isolated focus on Houtarou's thoughts and his feelings toward Chitanda. The tone of this episode was in such distinct contrast to that in the previous one, creating a very noticeable dichotomy between the melancholy nature of the Valentine episode and the sweetly romantic nature of this one. As superb as they usually are, the production values were particularly incredible in the final episode, from the dream-like procession to the final conversation beneath the sunset.

As for the series as a whole, the story was exceptionally structured, deftly weaving a plethora of subtle emotions gradually into the characters and, consequentially, the story. The direction delicately handled these nuances with a mastery that’s really rather impressive. I thought the story benefited considerably by having Oreki’s perspective be the central focus, since it allowed for the most satisfyingly complete character arc, portraying how significantly his outlook evolved over the course of the show, due especially to Chitanda’s influence and inquisitive nature. I loved how the show quietly detailed Oreki’s gradual development into a character willing to do much more than is required, culminating with his participation in the procession, something he would never have put any actual effort into achieving earlier in the series. Since these character developments were allowed to slowly build over time, it resulted in these moments of noticeable growth to be more strongly resonating and important.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the unexpected insight into Satoshi’s flaws, and how difficult it was for him to pursue an actual relationship with Mayaka, despite how strongly he felt toward her. It seemed as though there was a bit of happy resolution to that somewhat troubled relationship here, since it showed them together, potentially dating, after what I now assume was a pleasant phone call at the end of the last episode.

The animation was astoundingly good throughout the entire show, especially when dealing with the very particular, subtle facial expressions that often illuminated the intentions behind specific moments far better than words could ever have hoped to have likewise achieved. This was especially evident during quiet interactions between the characters, such as last episode’s bridge scene and the sunset conversation from this episode. The music often evoked a certain poetic wistfulness that accompanies many scenes quite wonderfully, and the specific selection used for the last scene of this episode is easily my favorite.

The layered, multi-dimensional characters often elevated the story above the occasionally mundane mysteries. As such, the mysteries, for the most part, ranged from mediocre to outstanding, but, alas, they certainly weren't the main draw of the series for me. The best mysteries were those that dealt specifically with the main characters, since they usually allowed a heightened level of fascinating insight into their complex emotions and ideologies. The story never faltered in it’s execution, rarely failing to be interesting, hardly ever slipping into an unfortunately dull nature, save for episode six, which was the only exception. However, I can’t complain about that episode too much, considering the other twenty-one episodes, because, in those episodes, there was a distinct energy that permeated the story, even during the more subdued arcs. There was, above all, very few flaws of any particular significance within the story or characters that I could elaborate on, save for, as I’ve already mentioned, the terrible sixth episode, which is best left forgotten entirely.

All in all, Hyouka was an extremely impressive show, particularly excelling with it's terrific writing, direction, artistic composition, animation, and character development. This was, for me, the best show of the year so far, and it's final episode has only reaffirmed that belief. Really, this was KyoAni at their best.

10/10 for me. Simply exceptional.

was gonna write something but this pretty much cover it. great job

Loved this anime 10/10 for me. Really hope there's a second season.

In regards to the episode, that blurring animation made my eyes feel all funny. I got disappointed when Oreki didn't say what he thought about him taking the business side of things for Chitanda. Really wish he said that. It wasn't really a difficult mystery to solve really, the moment I saw the brown hair guy I knew it was him. It just felt kinda obvious he looked like the odd one out.

Edit: Just wondering is the light novel ongoing? I know the author released 5 volumes. Anyone know if there's going to be more. If there is I'd think they'd be more chance for a 2nd season

Enjoyed this immensely from start to finish. Nice to see Mayaka and Satoshi making up. I lol-ed when Oreki went, "I'm curious" during the procession.

I admit, it was surprising when Oreki talked about taking care of the business side that Chitanda gave up on (epic pick up line). But in the end, he couldn't really express his true feelings just like Satoshi (i suppose birds of a feather flock together).

Hoping for a second season. I need more Hyouka! =D

A second season would be too much. The relationships are already established, the main mystery was solved long ago.
A movie could provide final closure that the tv series didn't.

A spinoff where Oreki is in a police/detective anime. Now that would be good.

Yes, it's still ongoing. The author is just pretty slow at releasing more volumes. I'd say it's rather likely to have a second season, but it will probably be a few years before that happens, since KyoAni will want to wait for more novels to be released.

At the end of the day, this has become the KyoAni series with the best characters and the most amount of care put into it imo. Yeah, I care the most about this series, but I'd still rate After Story sliiightly higher.

Oreki/Chitanda's relationship is a big reason why. I'm not going to pretend like I've watched all this way because of the perplexing mysteries, I'm only still here because of the characters and their fantastic but subtle development. One of my favourite visual choices in this finale was the image of Oreki and Chitanda walking under the cherry blossoms, it was as if Oreki was walking toward his rose-coloured school life.

After watching a finale of this calibre along with the past few episodes, it makes me want to give the series a 10/10. However, there really were quite a few boring episodes with not many redeeming qualities. 8/10 though, and I'll miss this show. Got misty-eyed at the end because now we finally have to say goodbye to it.

The ending is both surprising and satisfying. Most anime usually just insert a made-up, forced ending when the anime ends before the adapted media.

I'll give Hyouka 10/10. Beautifully done animation, smooth music, and most importantly, the best anime main character ever existed, Oreki Houtarou... (or at least I think so...)
