i didn't really care for the ending, it seemed like they were trying to leave everything open in the hopes of another season. also really wish they would have stopped the whole one-eye thing, it just made everyone look like they had been horribly maimed.

I honestly don't know if they would make a second series.

But as for the ending, the reason it was like that is because there is so much more to the story. The way they ended it in the Anime is just exactly how volume 10(?) ended in the Manga (Im guessing on the volume)

The next part to the series skips 5 years and starts all new drama. If they made a second season it would be based on that. However, since the manga is not very much far from where the series left off, it may be a while (if ever) for a second season.

I actually thought the ending was to be expected. 'Cause I had a feeling that they had a philosophy resembling this: "everyone thinks they're going to be together so we're not gonna make them together but we're gonna leave it open just in case a second season seems like a good idea".

But nonetheless, though foreseeable, the ending was alright. But that didn't save the anime overall. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

And I agree with jacobpaige. The one-eyed thing was a very bad style.

Was anyone else really disappointed that we didnt get to see them actually have sex. I would have much rather seen a zoo/hot spring episode, then watch a really slow ending where all they do is walk around and cry a lot. Im giving this one a 6 out of 10.

I love this series, it was amazingly sad and just what I needed. Need a good cry just watch this. lol. I keep getting choked up thinking about it.

Since we don't know if a second season will ever take place i'd suggest to everyone to read the manga. It's amazing. I just wish that the series was longer. T-T!

ahh i completely agree. it was really creepy when suddenly they would only have one eye. that bugged me throughout the whole show...

But I enjoyed the show for the most part. I wouldn't really mind if they had a second season, whatever works really.

I hate sad endings.

I liked the ending too. ^_^ It was sad that they were separating but it left me full of hope that they would be together again in the future. They still had to finish high school and go to college so it's not like it could really end any other way at this point. The Japanese love stories of separation because you learn so much about yourself when you're forced to be separated away from the ones you love.

I'm going to start reading the manga now. I'm curious what new troubles they'll find themselves in. I do hope that the author doesn't break Yano and Nanami apart after all they've gone through. They deserve to be together because they love each other so much. ^_^

Ending was bad, but cute. Who would end an anime with ending like that? Probably one of the baddest which I've ever seen.

But it was cute. Nanami running next to train and crying, I almost cry by myself too !
I just didn't like Nanami x Yano pairing at all, I was a fan of Nanami x Takeuchi.

Initially, I dropped this Anime after watching the first two episodes. Just couldn't stand the Animation.

Now that I've watched all of it, I think it should be rated higher on MAL, It's quite a powerful anime, I liked it a lot. Would have been nice to make it more on the happier side though.

By the by, Takeuchi totally pissed me off, the convenience was just way too much for me to bear lol, I am soo glad it was Yano in the end, otherwise I'd be rating this a 6 or something.

Up from a 6, to a 7 while watching it, to a final 8. Solid 8 I say.

They were trying to leave everything open ended but I found part of the manga and apparently at the train station was the last time Nana and Yano saw each other and Nana and Takeuchi get together.

I have lost faith in humanity because of this show

Dammit, 2 days gone again. Yea, could not stop..

The ending fit exactly to the anime (this open end = drama).

Did I mention that I hate drama?

Anyways, this ranks quite high on my list, gave it a 9/10.

if everyone loved the anime my suggestion would be to pick up the manga. The manga and anime are so similar and the anime stayed true to it's origin. It also helps fill in the missing pieces. It's extremely heart breaking though so be prepared!!!! I cried T_T. I believe the release dates have started for the US. Vol. 5 was just recently released and I believe early September another release will take place. OH yay! lol.

Maybe I have no heart, but it actually got less and less depressing for me as it got to the end and made me more confused (mostly about Nanami's actions and thoughts are so erratic - she explains her feelings but I don't get her, I guess I'm just dense >_>). I understand that she's weak but it didn't add up to me.

All in all, a good series. Loved the beginning, it was very sweet how Yano and Nanami's relationship grew. It got really annoying when Nanami kept asking about old Nana where I almost raged. But it was saved by the Takeuchi arc.

I've never actually been in a relationship, so I guess I don't know how it feels to be away from someone you love, the ending was pretty depressing though. I can totally relate to Takeuchi's feelings, wanting someone but you can't seem to get them no matter what you try to do. ;_; They're both good guys and it's depressing to see either of them without Nanami. It'd be interesting for a season 2. =D

Pretty good anime, and personally I loved this ending. I think this anime was made purposely to intitmate life in general.. Like when Yano couldn't get the dog "look-alike" of Takahashi from the crane game thing.

Life isn't like the way its depicted in anime or anything, it completely different.. In a way, this anime kind of portrayed that to viewers imo, hence the incomplete ending and brutal ending, which acts as a reflection to life in general..

So, overall while I did like the plot and the overall romance someone of the things were either too dramatic or underdone for my tastes. I still hope they make season 2 though!

Why must "goodbye at the train station" scenes always make me so emotional!
Endings always get me crying so much...I definitely cried more then Nana-chan :P
People always assume endings have to always be conclusive with no questions left unanswered...but i think it was a good ...the whole series really displayed that time of their lives really well. And wouldnt a really ending mean death...or apocalypse or something?

Oh God the ending made me cry a lot :( Also the beginning of the episode gave me really strong NANA vibes xD (Because of pairing got separated because university exams, guy goes to Tokyo and girl is left in their birthplace, etc.) I lol'd when Yano couldn't catch the doggie plushie.

Anyways, I also started this anime with a 6 (slow and kinda boring, but forced myself to watch it anyway xD) but I'm not sure if I should rate it 7 or 8...

This anime is hard to marathon, it's too sad! :( I couldn't watch more than 6-7-8 episodes in a day, so it took me like 5-6 days to watch it.

I'm not sure if I want a second season... It would be nice, I think XD

Well like others, I cried watching the ending. I was hoping that the two of them would be together. They had finally gotten things straight between them. It was hard to watch her running behind the train and him trying to keep sight of her. This was a bit Romeo & Juliet for me. I would hope for a 2nd season where things continued...but I not sure I could live through more of that gut wrenching that the last couple episodes had. I would give it 8/9 out of 10.

Wow, that was far too sad for me..
It broke my heart time and time again seeing her chase that train after the man she loves.
At first, I really fealt bad for Nana-chan because she seemed so fragile and adorable. I hate seeing people like that go through this kind of stuff. But as the series went on, especially this last episode, she showed her strength (even though she shed tears).

I liked that she told off (altho very lightly) Takeuchi, that made me so happy.

And as for a second season, I hope to god they don't make it. Or if they do, keep it as far away from me as they can. This anime made me far too sad that I could barely sleep at night. It just connects far too well with my emotions, and what I went through in my past. The only reason I'm giving this anime a 7/10 is because it made me cry at some points. Otherwise Bokura ga Ita deserves at least a 9/10.

One of my favorite anime ever. Anyone who's been through a relationship knows how real this show feels. It conveys the emotions of the characters better than any romance I've seen. The ending, while open, is fitting. "We Were There." They existed. "They" meaning not the two individuals, but they as a couple. No matter what happens, they'll always have those feelings and experiences. As this anime is really about a first love, it really fits, in my opinion.

@ByakuyaKana: How the hell does an anime making you cry make you give it a lower score!? That means it was powerful enough to really affect you emotionally. Last time I checked, that wasn't a bad thing. I suppose Romeo and Juliet is terrible too because they die at the end, and that probably made you cry, as well.

I just got done watching it, and I'm not afraid to admit - I had a few alligator tears run down my face!

Personally, I would have rather seen Yano not leave. But, either way still works - as long as they're still together in the end.

I think the series really needed to at least one of the "get away" moments to have happened - it would have progressed the plot and gave more insight into their passionate love, not just their romantic love. So based on this alone, I give it an 8/10.

However, because the story is quite gripping (first series I've marathoned in a while) and, quite frankly, realistic (things never turn out the way you expect them to in love!), I give it an 9/10.

I laughed, I cried. Heck, I even fell in love.
I just wish there was more.

Though, if I was Yano, I would have beaten up Takeuchi a lonnggg time ago.
Friend or not, you don't make plays on your friends woman. I rooted for Yano the entire time haha.

I was thoroughly expecting a "One Year Later" scene at the end, and when I didn't get it I sadfaced, but still sort of enjoyed the ending because I figured it meant a second season.

Read spoilers immediately after from the manga, now I don't want to see the second season at all and I want my scene with them all happy meeting again. :[

btw .. i heard that in the manga, yano will be in chaos in tokyo and because of that he doesn't contact nana-chan for years.. so nana started dating take !!!! wth was that !! and i heard also about yamamoto blockmailing yano to stay w/ her or else she will kill herself..what a bitch !!!! the story in the manga after the last episode in the anime sucks !!.
