As promised in June, our initial release of the Seasonal Anime Page was only the first step. We're excited to announce that our dev team has now pushed some new features to the page, including:
Sorting Options!
Default is set to "Most Members", but you can choose from one of many other options: Start Date, Title (alphabetical), Score, Studio, and Licensor.
Your last choice is remembered.
Filters!
Kids/R18+. Some of you were concerned that R18+ was hidden, but the page was still populated with children's shows that you didn't want to see. Now you can hide both and see the more "traditional" season chart series.
Your last choice for R18+/Kids is also now remembered.
Genres. These filters work like the Kids/R18+ filters: they exclude any series with genres you deselect (i.e. NOT). This way you can hide anime with genres you dislike; e.g. sports, horror, school, etc... We decided that excluding disliked genres was the most important application of a genre filter for a seasonal chart, while more robust genre filters are more useful for the advanced anime search. Please use it for a little while and let us know if it meets the majority of your needs. Since we assume if you want to hide all romance anime once, you'll probably always want to hide them:
Your last genre choices are remembered.
My List. These filters let you choose between your different Anime List states, including series which are not your list. This way you can only see series you completed, or can see series both in your Plan to Watch and not yet in your list, etc. Since the seasonal anime page is primarily intended as an overview of the season and not a replacement for the list feature, your list choices are not remembered.
Filtered counter. We've also added a little counter to show you how many series are currently visible after filtering, in case you forget that you applied a bunch of genre filters the last time you visited the page (and are wondering why this season seems so sparse...).
Other Additions
Episode count. With the implementation of the "My List" filter, you can now also see your progress on series you're watching this season, and increment the episodes from the seasonal anime page.
Licensors. To allow users to sort series which have been licensed by FUNimation, Aniplex, etc., licensor information has been added to the anime cells. We're aware the design is non-ideal now with this addition (most studios/licensors overflow the container), so we're currently considering an improved cell design for the page. (If you have any great ideas and want to whip out Paint/PS to sketch them out, feel free to post here in the next few days and add to our creative pool.)
Fixed Navigation. The season page navigation and sorting/filtering options now scroll with you, for convenience.
We hope that these new features improve everyone's usability and enjoyment of the page. Please let us know of any difficulties you may encounter and look forward to future updates!
